Dear Mike,
I really like the idea of adding a new column to our English newspaper. Personally, I am in favor of “English Movie Review” for its unique value.
For one thing, movies are a favorite among us students, which means we have abundant materials to write about whether it is analyzing the theme of a movie or commenting on the actors’ vivid performances. For another, crafting reviews in English can effectively enhance our English proficiency, as it urges us to use precise vocabulary and complex sentences to express our thoughts, a skill that is crucial to our language learning.
I am confident this column will arouse great interest in the class.
Yours,
Li Hua
Gradually, Emily’s confidence grew with Mr. Jenkins’ help. She started to approach math problems with newfound enthusiasm. Instead of dreading them, she would actively seek solutions, applying the techniques Mr. Jenkins had taught her. She no longer saw math as an insurmountable obstacle but as an exciting challenge. In class, she began to volunteer answers, much to the surprise of her teachers and classmates. Her after-school study sessions became a time of exploration rather than frustration. She would spend hours practicing, often losing track of time as she delved deeper into the world of numbers.
Emily’s heart raced when the results day arrived. She had worked so hard, and the thought of seeing if it had paid off filled her with both excitement and anxiety. As she opened the envelope containing her math test results, her eyes widened. A broad smile spread across her face. She had passed with flying colors! She couldn't wait to tell Mr. Jenkins. His unwavering belief in her and his unique teaching methods had finally borne fruit. This achievement was not just a victory in math but a testament to her own perseverance and the power of a great teacher.

Aloe Vera
Aloe vera needs very little water, indirect sunlight, and can live in the same pot for years. But you may not know that aloe vera is a plant that can help heal (治愈) minor cuts and burns like sunburns so it is a great addition for your home. When you are cutting leaves to use, don’t cut off more than a third of the plant at one time.

Can you sing in different voices? Chinese singer Zhou Shen can do this. The 27-year-old has become more popular after appearing on the TV show Singer. On the show, he sang a song in five different voices including the voice of a little girl, a king and a young man. He records in his unusual ways - he has performed in his bedroom twice due to the novel coronavirus outbreak - but also with his singing itself.
Zhou’s road to success was not easy. He loved singing when he was a little boy. However, his voice didn’t change like other boys during puberty (青春期). It still sounded like a girl’s voice. His classmates laughed at him and he dared not sing in public. But his love of music made him stronger. Producer Gao Xiaosong said Zhou has “come out of the cocoon (茧) and become a butterfly”. It has taken Zhou a long time to do so.
While studying in Ukraine, he learned Ukrainian, Russian, Italian and Polish. He can sing Let It Go in nine different languages. He started to sing on TV talent shows and gradually came to accept himself.
At 17, he first sang online without showing his face. Some people fell in love with it. On one of his birthdays, he agreed to show his face. However, when they found out that he was a man, some of them made fun of him. Zhou felt bad about this, but later he got the chance to sing the theme song to the movie Big Fish and Begonia which turned out to be a big success.
“I accept my voice,” Zhou said. “It is good as long as it is natural and honest.” Zhou Shen doesn’t just sing well. He is also humorous. He has a nice personality (性格) and is friendly to his fans. Some people call him “treasure boy”.
4. What did Zhou Shen do on the TV show Singer?
A. He won first place in the program. B. He made a record in his bedroom.
C. He sang a song in different sounds. D. He performed a show in five languages.
5. Why did Zhou Shen’s voice sound like a girl’s?
A. An accident changed his voice.
B. He wanted to be different from others.

6. People call Zhou Shen “treasure boy” because of his ________.
A. rich life B. popular songs
C. love for music D. personalities and talent
7. What is the purpose of the text?

AI writing tools are everywhere these days. They say they can make writing emails faster and essays clearer. But a big question comes up: Should we really use AI to write our most personal ideas — the deep, emotional things we want to share with people we love?
In an ad, a father used Google’s AI product to write a thank-you letter to an athlete in 2024 Summer Olympics for his daughter. A large audience showed criticism, saying AI took away people’s real emotional moments and chances to grow. Even so, a lot of people still use AI for important writing — like wedding promises, and more.
In one way, this is understandable. The pressure to say the right words can be very big. When people are nervous and looking at a blank page, they often turn to AI as a safe choice. This isn’t because they don’t care — it’s because they care so much. In that kind of mood, why risk saying something wrong when AI gives an easy way out?
But personal connection isn’t always smooth or perfect — it’s often tough. The hard work of writing something like a goodbye letter, with all the effort to show sadness and love, is the part that helps us reach true feelings. Therefore, a good basic rule is to first write down your own first ideas and feelings on the page. Then — and only then — you can ask AI to help make it better, put it in order or change the words, if you need to. You can also use AI to help think of ideas, but the main thought and direction should still come from you. That way, you keep control, and AI just helps you express yourself more smoothly.
The most important thing is to actually finish writing it. After all, sharing your words with others is much more valuable than never opening up at all. As long as we stay careful and know what we’re doing when we use AI, it can be a strong tool to help us become better writers and express ourselves better.
8. What does the underlined word “criticism” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Fear. B. Support. C. Praise. D. Disagreement.
9. Why does the author say AI is a safe choice?
A. Because AI offers deep care. B. Because AI feels little pressure.
C. Because AI produces perfect text. D. Because AI helps avoid mistakes.
10. What can we learn from paragraph 4?
A. Emotional writing needs personal effort. B. AI contributes to reaching true feelings.
C. Personal connection is often easy to make. D. AI decides the main thought and direction.
11. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Should we trust AI for writing?
B. Should we refuse AI in writing?
C. Does AI help beautify words or steal the soul?
D. Does AI promote creativity or limit imagination?
【答案】8.D 9.A 10.A 11.C
根据第二段“A large audience showed criticism, saying AI took away people’s real emotional moments and chances to grow. (一大批观众表示______,称人工智能剥夺了人们真正的情感时刻和成长的机会。)”可知,观众认为人工智能剥夺了人们真正的情感时刻和成长的机会,这是对父亲用人工智能写感谢信这一行为的负面看法。由此可推知,criticism在此处意为“批评”和Disagreement意思相近。结合选项,A. Fear害怕;B. Support支持;C. Praise赞扬;D. Disagreement不同意。故选D项。
9.细节理解题。根据第三段“The pressure to say the right words can be very big. When people are nervous and looking at a blank page, they often turn to AI as a safe choice. This isn’t because they don’t care — it’s because they care so much. In that kind of mood, why risk saying something wrong when AI gives an easy way out? 故选A项。
根据第四段“But personal connection isn’t always smooth or perfect — it’s often tough. The hard work of writing something like a goodbye letter, with all the effort to show sadness and love, is the part that helps us reach true feelings. (但是个人之间的联系并不总是顺畅或完美的,它往往很艰难。努力写一封告别信,尽力表达悲伤和爱,这是帮助我们触及真实情感的部分。)”可知,情感写作需要个人的努力。故选A项。
根据第一段“AI writing tools are everywhere these days. They say they can make writing emails faster and essays clearer. But a big question comes up: Should we really use AI to write our most personal ideas — the deep, emotional things we want to share with people we love? (如今,人工智能写作工具无处不在。他们说,它们可以让写电子邮件更快,写论文更清晰。但一个重要的问题出现了:我们真的应该用人工智能来写我们最私人的想法——那些我们想与所爱的人分享的深刻的、情感上的东西吗?)”可知,文章开篇提出是否应该用人工智能来表达个人情感的问题,后文围绕这一问题展开讨论,分析人们使用人工智能的原因,并给出合理使用人工智能的建议。C. Does AI help beautify words or steal the soul?
D
Imagine taking a long space trip with your pet. How do you both stay healthy in tough conditions like microgravity (微重力) and space radiation (辐射)? That’s where space-based animal research comes in.
On Oct 31, China’s Shenzhou XXI task was sent up with four mice on board. These mice were chosen for their great performance during 60 days of training. They passed tests, like riding an “exercise bike” and solving mazes (迷宫). After the mice return from the Shenzhou XXI spaceship, scientists will further study how space influences their bodies.
Huang Kun from the Chinese Academy of Sciences said, “Mice are ideal for space research because they share genetic (基因的) similarities with humans, need little room and reproduce quickly.” Also, given their short life, six months in space for a mouse is like over 10 years for a human. This allows scientists to know long-term space effects on humans in just months, rather than years, according to the Foundation for Biomedical Research in the US.
Internationally, sending animals to space began in the late 1940s to see if any life could survive the high rocket speeds or the weightlessness and radiation in space. Today, studies go beyond survival. “The animal work is helping us understand how to live a better life in space, making it a healthier reality, as well as helping us study a few diseases that influence us down on Earth,” Julie Dickie from King’s College London said.
For example, space is ideal for studying osteoporosis (骨质疏松), as microgravity causes bone loss 12 times faster than on Earth, said UCLA Health. In 2017, a study with 40mice on the International Space Station found a treatment that slowed bone loss and helped new bones grow, offering hope for keeping humans healthy both on Earth and in space.
Shenzhou XXI’s mouse mission is a key step in space research. Mice, as perfect research subjects, are essential partners in human space exploration.
12. Why are mice ideal for space research according to Huang Kun?
A. They can solve difficult mazes.
B. They performed well in training.
C. They are genetically similar to humans.
D. They can survive long-term space experiments.
13. How does the author develop paragraph 4?
A. By listing numbers. B. By giving examples.
C. By making comparisons. D. By explaining cause and effect.
14. What can be inferred from the study in 2017?
A. Osteoporosis can be completely cured.
B. Microgravity is good for bone growth.
C. The treatment found can prevent bone loss.
D. The treatment found may benefit human health.
15. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. History of animal space experiments.
B. Significance of Shenzhou XXI’s mice mission.
C. Training process of Shenzhou XXI’s “mice astronauts”.
D. Mice’s advantages for space research over other animals.
【答案】12.C 13.C 14.D 15.B

根据第四段中“Internationally, sending animals to space began in the late 1940s to see if any life could survive the high rocket speeds or the weightlessness and radiation in space. Today, studies go beyond survival. (在国际上,20世纪40年代末开始将动物送入太空,以观察是否有生命能够在火箭高速飞行、太空失重和辐射环境下生存。如今,研究已经超越了生存的范畴。)”可知,本段通过对比过去和现在动物太空实验的不同目的来展开论述。故选C项。
14.推理判断题。根据第五段中“In 2017, a study with 40 mice on the International Space Station found a treatment that slowed bone loss and helped new bones grow, offering hope for keeping humans healthy both on Earth and in space. (2017年,一项在国际空间站对40只老鼠进行的研究发现了一种治疗方法,可以减缓骨质流失并促进新骨生长,为人类在地球和太空保持健康带来了希望。)”可知,2017年的研究发现的治疗方法可能对人类健康有益。故选D项。
15.主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Shenzhou XXI’s mouse mission is a key step in space research. Mice, as perfect research subjects, are essential partners in human space exploration. (神舟二十一号的老鼠任务是太空研究的关键一步。老鼠作为完美的研究对象,是人类太空探索的重要伙伴。)”以及结合全文可知,本文主要讲述了神舟二十一号任务中老鼠实验的意义,包括对人类太空探索的帮助、对地球疾病研究的贡献等。故选B项。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)

Building confidence can be difficult, especially when you are faced with failure or mistakes. Fortunately, whether you lack confidence or struggle to feel confident about anything, there are several ways that can help you.
Stop comparing yourself to others.
While making comparisons is natural, they often lead to envy (嫉妒). The more envy you have, the worse you feel about yourself.____16____. Then keep a thankful journal to help you call to mind the areas where you are favored, which can help you focus on your own life rather than others’.
____17____
The people you spend time with can influence your thoughts and attitudes about yourself, perhaps more than you realize. Surround yourself with people who love you and want the best for you. Seek out others who are positive and can help build your confidence.____18____
Practice positive self-talk.
Optimistic self-talk can help you overcome self-doubt and take on new challenges. Turn those negative thoughts around into more positive self-talk. For example, “I can’t do anything right” becomes “I can do better next time” or “____19____”. “I hate public speaking” becomes “I don’t like public speaking” and “Everyone has strengths and weaknesses.”
Set realistic goals.
Setting high-reaching goals and failing to achieve them would damage confidence levels. However, realistic goals are achievable. The more realistic goals are, the greater confidence you will have. For instance, if you have a goal of losing weight, losing one to two pounds per week is healthy and realistic.____20____. Your self-confidence will be boosted when you hit it.
A. Surround yourself with positive people.
B. Mistakes are just stepping stones to progress.
C. Don’t let other people determine who you are.
D. Keep a positive circle of supportive close friends.
E. Remember that everyone is running their own race.
F. Self-confidence and a positive attitude go hand in hand.
G. Knowing this helps you set a goal in line with this guideline.
【答案】16.D 17.A 18.F 19.B 20.G
16.小标题“Stop comparing yourself to others. (停止将自己与他人比较)”,下文“Then keep a thankful journal to help you call to mind the areas where you are favored, which can help you focus on your own life rather than others’. (然后,写一本感恩日记来帮助你回忆自己所拥有的优点方面,这有助于你将注意力集中在自己的生活上,而非他人的生活上。)”建议写感恩日记,关注自己被偏爱的方面,而不是关注他人。由此可知,空格处应与停止比较自己和他人相关,D项“Keep a positive circle of supportive close friends. (保持一个由支持你的亲密朋友组成的积极圈子。)”虽然未直接提及停止比较,但保持积极的朋友圈可以减少与他人比较的倾向,且与后文关注自身生活的建议相呼应,通过积极的朋友关系来强化自我认知,减少外界比较的影响,符合语境。故选D。
17.根据下文“The people you spend time with can influence your thoughts and attitudes about yourself, perhaps more than you realize. Surround yourself with people who love you and want the best for you. Seek out others who are positive and can help build your confidence. (你所相处的人能够影响你对自己想法和态度的形成,其影响力可能超出你的想象。让自己与那些爱你、希望你一切顺利的人为伍。寻找那些积极向上、能够帮助你建立自信的人。)”可知,本段主要讲述的是与积极的人相处对建立自信的重要性,A项“Surround yourself with positive people. (与积极的人在一起。)”概括了本段主旨,符合语境。故选A。
18.上文“Seek out others who are positive and can help build your confidence. (寻找那些积极向上、能够帮助你建立自信的人。)” F项“Self-confidence and a positive attitude go hand in hand. (自信和积极的态度是相辅相成的。)”进一步阐述了自信和积极态度之间的关系,说明与积极的人相处能带来积极的态度,从而增强自信,符合语境。故选F。
19.上文“For example, ‘I can’t do anything right’ becomes ‘I can do better next time’ (例如,“我什么都做不好”会变成“下次我会做得更好的”)”给出了将消极自我对话转变为积极自我对话的例子,B项“Mistakes are just stepping stones to progress. (错误只是进步的垫脚石)”是对积极自我对话的进一步解释,说明错误并非不可接受,而是可以转化为进步的动力,符合语境。故选B。
20.上文“For instance, if you have a goal of losing weight, losing one to two pounds per week is healthy and realistic. (例如,如果你的目标是减肥,每周减重一到两磅是健康且切实可行的。)”给出了设定现实目标的例子,G项“Knowing this helps you set a goal in line with this guideline. (了解这一点有助于你设定符合这一准则的目标。)”中的“this”指代上文提到的每周减重一到两磅是健康且现实的目标,说明了解这一准则有助于设定符合实际的目标,符合语境。故选G。

第二节(满分25分)
57. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Emily Harper sat at her desk, staring blankly at the math problems in front of her. Numbers and variables danced confusingly across the page, laughing at her every effort. At school, Emily was known for her artistic talents, but math had always been her weakness. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t make sense of it.
Her struggles only worsened in the 10th grade. The pressure to keep up with her classmates grew, and the poor grades shook her confidence. Her parents decided to step in. “We need to find you some help.” her mother gently suggested one evening.
Then came Mr. Jenkins, a retired local teacher known for his unique teaching style. Emily was initially resistant; the idea of spending extra hours on a subject she hated seemed like a punishment. But she unwillingly agreed, knowing something had to change.
Their first session was tense. Mr. Jenkins, sensing her frustration, didn’t dive straight into problems. Instead, he asked about her interests. When Emily spoke passionately about her painting, he smiled. “Math is like art, Emily. It has patterns and beauty if you know where to look.”
Doubtful but inspired, Emily listened as he began to explain concepts through visual examples. He used colors and shapes, turning abstract numbers into something almost tangible (有形的). For the first time, math seemed less like a foreign language and more like a puzzle waiting to be solved.
However, progress was slow. Weeks passed with minimal improvement, and Emily’s patience wore thin. A particularly difficult quiz left her in tears, convinced she was sure to fail.
Mr. Jenkins said. “Remember, Emily, every artist starts with a blank canvas, Masterpieces aren’t created overnight.”
Encouraged by his firm belief, Emily pushed on. She began to see the connections between the steps, and Mr. Jenkins celebrated every progress she made, no matter how minor it was.
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
