Parisima Taeb and her 9-year-old daughter, Darya Haija, were heading home from their local grocery store when Darya spotted a group of homeless people in a nearby lot. “Where do they sleep?” she asked her mom, worried. “There are shelters that try to help them,” Parisima explained, but Darya wasn’t satisfied. “Where do they get money for food? How can I help?” she pressed on, but this time her mom had no answer.
“Let me ask your teacher,” Parisima said. “Maybe she knows how you can help. ”“Your timing couldn’t be better,” Darya’s teacher said the next afternoon when Parisima approached. “The school is starting a food drive. Darya is welcome to help!”
Excited, Darya and her classmates collected canned goods and helped sort them for a local food bank. “Maybe there’s more I can do,” she thought as the food drive ended.
Darya loved making jewelry at home. “What do you think?” she asked her mom, showing off a beaded bracelet (珠链). “It’s beautiful!” Parisima smiled, and the next afternoon, Darya made another. Soon she had 20 and then she began decorating pens. “I’m going to sell them and raise money for the homeless,” Darya declared. “Where should the money go?”
Parisima researched shelters and visited several with Darya. One of them, Fort Myers Women and Children Shelter, really touched Darya’s heart. “This is the one,” Darya decided, and soon she was going door-to-door selling her bracelets and pens.
People were touched by the little girl’s kindness and almost everyone she spoke to bought something. When Darya raised $1,000, Parisima helped her open a bank account and write a check. “This is for you,” she told Rachel McKinnon, director of Fort Myers Women and Children’s Shelter. “This will help us buy food and supplies for residents,” McKinnon said gratefully, but for Darya, it was just the beginning.
For her latest and greatest project, Darya has made 100 bracelets, and she’s inviting friends to join a large community sale. “People need food and a place to sleep,” she says. “I love helping them in every possible way.”
24.What did Darya do immediately after the school food drive finished?
A.She began to make jewelry at home.

You have probably heard of the social-media addiction trial that recently took place in Los Angeles. A young woman took Meta and YouTube to court, accusing them of making her addicted to social media — and she won. This interesting court case raises many questions that there are currently no clear answers to, but that people should think about.
Social media is extensively used. As many as one in every three people uses social media, and in the USA, people reportedly spend around 6 hours a day on it. In 2025, Facebook had over 3 billion users, followed by WhatsApp and Instagram with about 3 billion each. With such extensive use, it is not strange that social media addiction (SMA) has become a focus for many researchers.
One initial research area is the potential classification of SMA.It is worth noting that the DSM-5, a diagnostic tool for psychologists, does not recognize SMA as a distinct mental disorder; it is often discussed as a condition that requires more research. Thus, the conversations around SMA are not necessarily straightforward. However, within research literature, SMA has been described as a specific form of digital technology addiction. It refers to the heavy use of social media platforms which can lead to harmful life consequences. It also shares some components with behavioral disorders like gambling (赌博), including conflict, tolerance and withdrawal.
Should social media be regulated (监管) by law? This is another difficult question. As more researchers agree that SMA may be a genuine addictive disorder, it should perhaps be managed to reduce potential risks — much like tobacco, alcohol, and gambling. The cognitive complexity involved in deciding what to view online is also one that should be carefully debated when it comes to children. In most societies, children are guided as to what they can watch in cinemas or on television. It is difficult to see why social media ought to be any different.
28.How does the author introduce the topic?
A.By citing a case. B.By giving a definition.
C.By making a comparison. D.By explaining a phenomenon.
29.What does the author say about SMA?
A.It has unproven consequences. B.It is no different from gambling.
C.It arises from social media overuse. D.It is clearly regarded as a mental illness.
30.What is the author’s attitude towards monitoring social media by law?
A.Favorable. B.Dismissive. C.Unclear. D.Opposed.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A.Court Case: A Landmark Victory B.Legal Regulation: A Necessary Step
C.Social Media Use: A Global Phenomenon D.Social Media Addiction: A Rising Concern
【答案】28.A 29.C 30.A 31.D
根据第一段中“You have probably heard of the social-media addiction trial that recently took place in Los Angeles. A young woman took Meta and YouTube to court, accusing them of making her addicted to social media — and she won. (你或许听说过近期发生在洛杉矶的这起社交媒体成瘾诉讼案。一名年轻女性起诉Meta和YouTube,指控二者致使她对社交媒体上瘾,而她最终胜诉。)”可知,作者通过引用一个具体的法庭案例来引入话题。
29.细节理解题。根据第三段中“However, within research literature, SMA has been described as a specific form of digital technology addiction. It refers to the heavy use of social media platforms which can lead to harmful life consequences. (然而,在研究文献中,社交媒体成瘾被描述为数字技术成瘾的一种具体形式。它指的是过度使用社交媒体平台,这可能会给生活带来有害的后果。)”可知,社交媒体成瘾源于过度使用社交媒体。
30.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“As more researchers agree that SMA may be a genuine addictive disorder, it should perhaps be managed to reduce potential risks — much like tobacco, alcohol, and gambling. (随着越来越多的研究人员认为社交媒体成瘾可能是一种真正的成瘾性疾病,它或许应该像烟草、酒精和赌博一样,被加以管控以降低潜在风险。)”以及“It is difficult to see why social media ought to be any different.
D
Lithium-ion (锂离子) batteries power everything from smartphones to electric cars and renewable energy storage. However, lithium is insufficient and concentrated in limited regions. To meet the growing demand for clean energy, scientists are exploring sodium-ion batteries as a sustainable alternative.
Sodium, found in large quantities in seawater and salt mines, is cheaper and more widely available than lithium. Yet, sodium-ion batteries face a major technical problem. Sodium-ions are three times larger than lithium-ions, making them slower to move and harder to store within battery electrodes (电极). This reduces energy density, meaning sodium batteries require larger sizes to match lithium’s capacity. Scientists are handling this challenge through new materials.
One focus is improving the anode (negative electrode). Traditional lithium batteries use graphite (石墨), which struggles to store sodium. Scientists now use “hard carbon”, a porous material, which allows sodium-ions to pass through its numerous tiny gaps. Adding tin to hard carbon further boosts storage capacity. For the cathode (positive electrode), new materials like layered metal oxides or organic compounds show promise. For example, a durable organic cathode named TAQ has achieved high energy density and stability over thousands of charging cycles.
Recent progress is encouraging. Some commercial sodium batteries now store 170-200 watt-hours per kilogram (Wh/kg), close to low-end lithium batteries (200-300Wh/kg). Major companies like CATL in China plan large-scale production, targeting renewable energy storage and electric vehicles.
However, challenges remain. Even top sodium batteries still lag behind advanced lithium models in performance. Falling lithium prices, driven by oversupply, and existing manufacturing infrastructure (基础设施) also weaken sodium’s cost advantage. Experts emphasize the need for breakthroughs, such as replacing expensive materials like vanadium.
Despite challenges, many believe sodium batteries have a bright future. As research advances, they could become a key player in building a greener economy. “We’re still in the early days of understanding sodium’s chemistry,” says Dan Steingart, a battery chemist, “but the potential is undeniable.”
32.Why is sodium considered a better resource than lithium?
A.It provides higher energy density.
B.It is simpler and safer to get.
C.It is more affordable and abundant.
D.It allows faster charging cycles.
33.What does the underlined word “porous” mean in Paragraph 3?
A.Full of small holes. B.Stable and rough.
C.Large in capacity. D.Extremely dense.
34.Why is sodium’s cost advantage currently limited?
A.Sodium batteries need rare materials for production.
B.Lithium prices have dropped greatly due to rich supply.
C.Global lithium reserves are sufficient for large-scale use.
D.Sodium batteries require complex manufacturing processes.
35.What is the main purpose of the text?
A.To criticize lithium batteries for their environmental harm.
B.To warn against relying on renewable energy storage.
C.To promote organic cathodes as an alternative solution.
D.To highlight sodium’s potential despite current limitations.
【答案】32.C 33.A 34.B 35.D
根据第二段“Sodium, found in large quantities in seawater and salt mines, is cheaper and more widely available than lithium. (海水与盐矿中储量丰富的钠,相比锂成本更低、获取渠道更广。)”可知,钠被视作优于锂的资源是因为储量丰富且价格更低。
33.词句猜测题。根据下文“which allows sodium-ions to pass through its numerous tiny gaps. (可供钠离子穿过其上无数微小孔隙。)”可知,下文提到材料有大量微小缝隙可供离子穿过,说明该材料布满小孔。由此可知,porous意为“布满小孔的”。
34.细节理解题。根据第五段“Falling lithium prices, driven by oversupply, and existing manufacturing infrastructure also weaken sodium’s cost advantage. (供过于求导致锂价下跌,再加上现有成熟制造体系,也削弱了钠的成本优势。)”可知,钠离子电池成本优势如今受限的原因是锂供应充足,价格大幅下降。
35.推理判断题。根据第一段“To meet the growing demand for clean energy, scientists are exploring sodium-ion batteries as a sustainable alternative. (为满足日益增长的清洁能源需求,科学家正探索将钠离子电池作为可持续替代方案。)”和最后一段“Despite challenges, many believe sodium batteries have a bright future. (尽管尚存挑战,但多数人看好钠电池的发展前景。)”可知,文章主要写作目的是为了点明钠离子电池虽有短板,但具备发展潜力。
第二节(共5小题:每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
When you get in a car, you expect it will have functioning brakes. When you pick up medicine at the drugstore, you expect it won’t be polluted. But it wasn’t always like this. The safety of these products was terrible when they first came to market. It took much research and regulation to figure out how users can enjoy the benefits of these products without getting harmed. 36
Social media risks are everywhere. The dangers that algorithms designed to maximize attention represent to teens have become impossible to ignore. Other product design elements, often called “dark patterns”, designed to keep people using for longer, also appear to tip young users into social media overuse. 37 They say it’s their users’ fault for engaging with harmful content in the first place, even if those users are children or the content is financial trickery. They also claim to be defending free speech.
38 Under the Digital Services Act, which came into effect in Europe in 2022, platforms are required to take action to stop the spread of illegal content and can be fined up to 6 percent of their global incomes if they don’t do so. If this law is enforced, maintaining the safety of their algorithms and networks will be the most financially sound decision for platforms to make.
Despite these efforts, two things are clear. First, online safety problems are leading to real, offline suffering. Second, social media companies can’t, or won’t, solve these safety problems on their own. 39 Even safety issues like cyberbullying that we thought were solved can pop right back up. As our society moves online to an ever-greater degree, the idea that anyone, even teens, can just “stay off social media” becomes less and less realistic. 40
A.Platforms already have systems to remove violent or harmful content.
B.And those problems aren’t going away.
C.Similarly, social media needs product safety standards to keep users safe.
D.The current issues aren’t really about offline suffering.
E.Online platforms, however, have shifted blame on the consumers whenever criticized.
F.Some authorities are taking steps to hold social media platforms responsible for the content.
G.It’s time we should require social media to take safety seriously, for everyone’s sake.
【答案】36.C 37.E 38.F 39.B 40.G

It took much research and regulation to figure out how users can enjoy the benefits of these products without getting harmed.(这些产品刚上市时安全性很差。
37.上文“The dangers that algorithms designed to maximize attention represent to teens have become impossible to ignore. Other product design elements, often called “dark patterns,” designed to keep people using for longer, also appear to tip young users into social media overuse.(旨在博取关注度的算法对青少年造成的危害已不容忽视。其他常被称作“黑暗模式”、旨在延长用户使用时长的产品设计,也容易导致年轻用户过度使用社交媒体。)”点明社交媒体自身设计存在漏洞,会对青少年造成不良影响。选项E“Online platforms, however, have shifted blame on the consumers whenever criticized.(然而,网络平台每逢受到指责,都会将责任推给消费者。)” 后文“They say it’s their users’ fault for engaging with harmful content in the first place, even if those users are children or the content is financial trickery.(它们声称,即便用户是儿童、或内容属于金融骗局,从一开始接触不良内容就是用户的过错。)”
38.后文“Under the Digital Services Act, which came into effect in Europe in 2022, platforms are required to take action to stop the spread of illegal content and can be fined up to 6 percent of their global incomes if they don’t do so.(依据2022年在欧洲生效的《数字服务法》,平台被要求采取行动制止非法内容传播,若拒不执行,最高可被处以全球营收6%的罚款。)” F“Some authorities are taking steps to hold social media platforms responsible for the content.(部分官方机构正采取措施,追究社交媒体平台对内容的责任。)”
39.上文“Despite these efforts, two things are clear. First, online safety problems are leading to real, offline suffering. Second, social media companies can’t, or won’t, solve these safety problems on their own.(尽管有这些举措,有两点事实显而易见:第一,网络安全问题正在引发现实中的线下伤害;第二,社交媒体企业无法、也不会自行解决这些安全问题。)” B“And those problems aren’t going away.(而且这些问题不会自行消失。)” 后文“Even safety issues like cyberbullying that we thought were solved can pop right back up.(即便是我们本以为已经解决的网络霸凌这类安全问题,也会再次出现。)”
40.前文“As our society moves online to an ever-greater degree, the idea that anyone, even teens, can just “stay off social media” becomes less and less realistic.(随着社会线上化程度不断加深,任何人、甚至青少年可以单纯“远离社交媒体”的想法,变得越来越不现实。)” G“It’s time we should require social media to take safety seriously, for everyone’s sake.(为了所有人的利益,是时候要求社交媒体认真对待安全问题了。)”

On the positive side, it opens the door to endless knowledge and connects us with the world. But on the negative side, harmful information and online dangers are real threats.
I still remember once coming across fake news online — it was a wake-up call for me. That’s why I encourage everyone to develop critical thinking and protect personal privacy.

One winter day after school, Tim asked his mother to allow him to go out and play in the snow. “Sure, you can. Remember to put on your coat, your hat and your gloves,” his mother said. “You can build a snowman before your father comes home.”
“I’m going to need a carrot for the nose,” Tim said. “And I’ll need some things for the snowman’s hat and face.” Tim got a bucket (桶) and collected everything he needed to decorate his snowman. His mother promised she would watch him build the snowman from the window.
Outside, in his front yard, Tim started with a very small ball of snow. He got on his knees and rolled the snow into a big ball. At another window, someone else was watching Tim play. It was his new neighbour Jenny. Jenny asked her mother if she could go outside and join Tim in building his snowman. Jenny’s mother agreed and promised to watch her from the window. “You can play until your father comes home,” her mother said.
Jenny ran outside to Tim’s yard and asked if she could help him finish his snowman.
“Yes, please help me,” Tim said. “I have built my snowman’s body with two snowballs. I need to roll one more for my snowman’s head.”
“But snowmen only have two snowballs. One is for the body and the other one is for the head,” Jenny said.
“No, snowmen always have three snowballs,” Tim said. “I don’t think I need you to help me after all.”
Tim picked up some snow and made it into a small snowball. He got on his knees and rolled the snow away from Jenny to make the snowman’s head. Jenny walked back into her own yard and began to build her own snowman.
Tim made a hat for his snowman with his bucket. He used his mother’s buttons for the eyes and mouth. Lastly, he added a carrot for the snowman’s nose. Seeing his snowman, Tim was happy, but suddenly a terrible thing happened. The head fell off the snowman and crashed onto the ground! “Oh, no! My snowman fell apart,” Tim said, “and my father is almost home!”

Jenny heard Tim’s cry and ran over to his yard to see what the problem was. Seeing the broken snowman on the ground, she felt sorry for Tim and offered to help at once. “Don’t worry. We can make a new head together,” Jenny said gently. Tim nodded with a grateful smile. They rolled a firm round snowball quickly, lifted it onto the body carefully, and fixed the buttons and bucket back in place. Just as they finished, Tim’s father’s car appeared down the road. Tim sighed in relief and thanked Jenny sincerely for her timely help.
“You’re welcome... but my snowman still doesn’t have a nose,” Jenny said softly. Tim looked at her lovely snowman with big eyes and stick arms and immediately had an idea. He ran back, pulled the carrot out of his snowman’s nose, and cut it into two halves. He handed one half to Jenny, who put it on her snowman happily. The two snowmen stood next to each other like close friends. At that moment, Tim truly understood what a good neighbour was — sharing and caring, turning a cold winter day into one full of warmth and joy.

Good morning, everyone!
The Internet is a powerful tool, which has reshaped our lives. However, as a double-edged sword, it brings both opportunities and risks.
Let’s take action together. Be wise and make the Internet a civilized and positive space for all.
That’s all. Thank you for listening!

B.She went door-to-door to sell pens.
C.She opened a bank account to save money.
D.She figured out more ways to help the homeless.
25.Why did Darya and her mother visit several shelters before donating?
A.To get advice on running a charity activity.
B.To look for people to sell her bracelets to.
C.To pick a suitable shelter for her donations.
D.To collect daily supplies for homeless people there.
26.What can we infer from people’s warm response to Darya’s sale?
A.Parisima helped promote Darya’s products.
B.People were moved by Darya’s kind heart.
C.Homeless people needed the products badly.
D.Darya’s products were very cheap and beautiful.
27.Which of the following can best describe Darya?
A.Warm-hearted and helpful.
B.Shy and thoughtful.
C.Creative and curious.
D.Confident and humorous.
