Dear fellow students,
Each year, our school goes through more than 50,000 plastic bottles, 30,000 straws and 20,000 bags. Most are used for under 15 minutes yet take centuries to break down. This problem has snowballed over the past decade. It’s time to turn the tide.

Over 1 million marine animals fall victim to plastic waste each year. As students, we can make a difference.
Our “Plastic-Free Campus” Initiative
The challenge asks participants to go without disposable (一次性的) plastics — bottles, straws, bags, containers — for ten days straight. We require every student to take these three steps:
1. Bring your own bottle. One reusable bottle saves up to 500 disposable bottles a year. Fill it at any campus fountain.
2. Refuse plastic straws and bags. Just say “No straw, please.” Carry a cloth bag for shopping.
3. Refuse unnecessary plastic packaging. Choose package-free options whenever possible.
Join us!
From May 20 to May 30, the Green Campus Club will run a “Plastic-Free Challenge”. Participants who successfully complete the challenge will receive a reusable drink bottle (limited to 50 winners).
Register at the club office (Room 101, Science Building) or scan the QR code below (see poster on campus).
Let’s be the generation that ends plastic pollution. Small changes, big impact.

In April 2026, New York University awarded its highest faculty honor, the title of Silver Professor, to 35-year-old Chinese mathematician Wang Hong. This landmark achievement has made her one of the world’s top experts in pure mathematics, and the rare appointment for a young researcher has caught wide attention from global academic (学术的) circles.
Wang comes from a small city in Guilin, Guangxi, and grew up far away from the world’s top academic centers. Her life is marked by quiet courage and careful choices, instead of sudden fame. As an undergraduate at Peking University, she first studied earth sciences, a practical and traditional major, before she decided to turn to mathematics to follow her real academic interest.
She went on with her studies in France and the United States, spending years working on difficult and basic mathematical research with little public attention. In 2025, she and her partner Joshua Zahl successfully proved the three-dimensional Kakeya conjecture (猜想), a century-old problem that had puzzled mathematicians around the world. Her breakthrough work in harmonic (谐波) analysis and geometric measure theory has earned her worldwide recognition, as well as a lifetime professorship at France’s Institut des Hautes études Scientifiques, one of the world’s most respected research centers.
Wang’s high academic fame was fully shown during a lecture at Peking University, where the hall was full of listeners. Wei Dongyi, one of China’s best-known mathematicians, sat quietly in the front row listening attentively, which served as silent but strong proof of the respect and influence Wang has earned in the academic field.
Wang’s story carries a timeless truth: great achievements do not require an extraordinary start. They come from determination, brave choices and constant devotion. Her rise from an ordinary background to global academic excellence reminds us that quiet, continuous hard work is the key to long-term success.
24.What pushed Wang Hong to change her major at university?
A.The love for mathematics. B.A plan to study overseas.
C.A desire to challenge herself. D.The unpopularity of the former major.
25.What can we learn about Wang Hong’s achievement?
A.She won the global highest honor in mathematics.
B.She was given a teaching post at Peking University for this.
C.She spent years working on her research independently.
D.She proved a long-standing mathematical conjecture.
26.Why does the author mention Wei Dongyi in Paragraph 4?
A.To prove Wang’s high academic fame.
B.To show how well-known Peking University is.
C.To introduce another outstanding mathematician.
D.To stress the importance of mathematical communication.
27.What is the best title for the text?
A.The Famous Solution of a Century-old Math Conjecture
B.Determination: the Secret to Mathematical Research
C.A Hard-won Top Honor at New York University
D.From Ordinary Origin to Academic Success

In Kenerson’s after-school classroom, Sandi takes out a piece of paper and fills up a whole line to spell words that allows her to practice cursive (草书) — her new favorite method of writing.
She is a proud member of the Holmes Middle School cursive club in Virginia. Cursive has been on the rise for years now. More than two dozen states now require cursive instruction in schools after the 2010 Common Core standards left out the skill.
Kenerson started the middle school club when students couldn’t read her writing on the board. They just stared at her blankly, she said. For an educator who firmly believes that quotes deserve to be written in cursive, Kenerson wanted to give students a chance to understand the magic of the cursive.
The club exploded in popularity this past winter, with the Washington Post crediting it for “keeping cursive alive”. Kenerson’s after-school club is a local example of a nationwide trend — cursive handwriting is back in many classrooms across the country. Teachers and legislators credit the return to nostalgia (怀旧) and some evidence of educational benefits. But surprisingly, the curves and swoops are contentious among experts, and some argue that cursive does not add any real value for students, especially in the age of AI.
“I have seen no evidence that cursive brings any particular cognitive (认知的) or learning benefit beyond that brought by hand printing,” wrote Mark.
Much of the cursive debate centers around time in the classroom. Should educators spend precious minutes teaching another way to write on paper when technology is so readily available?
Datchuk, a professor of special education at the University of Iowa, said the answer does not have to be one or the other. In his college classroom, he sees students increasingly using tablets to take notes.“What that means is that as a country, we likely need to help our students become multi-modal,” Datchuk said. They need to not only be able to handwrite using print, but also use cursive, type, and interact with technology, he said.
28.What drove Kenerson to set up the cursive club?
A.Other educators’ appeal.
B.Students’ interest in cursive.
C.Students’ ignorance of cursive.
D.The desire to stand out among workmates.
29.What is the current situation of cursive in the US?
A.It lacks official support. B.It is regaining popularity.
C.It remains unknown to the public. D.It is a required subject in all schools.
30.What does the underlined word "contentious" in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Easily forgotten. B.Rapidly changed.
C.Widely accepted. D.Deeply questioned.
31.What does Datchuk advise students to do?
A.Focus only on printed handwriting in class.
B.Give up handwriting and turn to technology.
C.Spend more time practicing cursive every day.
D.Master different ways of writing and learning.

After a 156-day voyage, the Chinese research vessel Tansuo 1 returned to Guangzhou on Sunday, completing the first China-Chile joint manned deep-sea expedition to a trench (海沟) off the coast of Chile. The ocean’s deepest layer below 6,000 meters remains one of the least understood frontiers on Earth. However, it holds the key to studying life under extreme conditions, understanding how earthquakes and tsunamis happen, and discovering unique genetic resources.
Led by the Institute of Deep-Sea Science and Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the expedition covered over 40,000 kilometers and brought together 83 researchers from six countries. During the mission, China’s domestically developed manned deep-sea craft Fendouzhe completed 63 dives, 50 of which went deeper than 6,000 meters, collecting a wealth of biological and geological samples.
In a major breakthrough, scientists identified for the first time a chemical-based ecosystem in the deepest waters south of the equator — a system that supports life without sunlight, thus providing crucial evidence for the concept that similar chemical-based life could exist all around the world. Moreover, they discovered several new species of deep-sea snailfish and took many photos of animals living on the ocean floor, most of which are believed to be previously unknown. They also identified seafloor cracks caused by historical major earthquakes, offering valuable insights into how earthquake-related activity shapes deep-sea landscapes and affects biological habitats.
Although deep-sea exploration is often considered even more challenging than space exploration due to extremely high pressure and freezing temperatures, Fendouzhe has overcome many of these barriers. Building on this capability, China launched the Global Hadal Exploration Programme in 2022, which has been officially supported by the United Nations. The joint China-Chile expedition, a major mission under this programme, demonstrates how international cooperation can unlock the secrets of the deep ocean and supports China’s promise to protect the world’s oceans.
32.What does the author stress about the ocean’s deepest layer?
A.Its great scientific exploration value.
B.Its severe living conditions for marine life.
C.Its decisive role in preventing ocean disasters.
D.Its rich and widely studied biological resources.
33.What did Fendouzhe achieve in the expedition?
A.It collected samples to help identify new species.
B.It analyzed cracks to predict underwater earthquakes.
C.It discovered chemical ecosystems in shallow waters.
D.It completed dozens of deep dives below 6,000 meters.
34.What do we know about the breakthrough towards ecosystem?
A.It was found in deepest waters north of the equator.
B.It shows most marine creatures live without sunlight.
C.It explains how deep earthquakes affect marine ecosystems.
D.It suggests the possibility of chemical-based life worldwide.
35.What can we infer from the passage?
A.The joint expedition gains international support.
B.Scientists know newly-found sea creatures well.
C.Chemical-based life will be created in the future.
D.Deep-sea exploration will beat space exploration.

“Judy, you’re to clean the classroom after class with Kate.” Judy’s heart sank at the cleaning monitor’s words, a familiar tight feeling pressing her chest.
Head teacher Susan kept talking about “the joy of labor,” but labor never made sense to Judy. Dust, sweat, aching shoulders — where was the point? She’d do anything to avoid getting dirty. Last time, she made up an excuse about being sensitive to dust. Susan frowned, thought for a moment, and then let her off.
“What excuse for this time? Besides, Kate’s too strict about cleaning. How can I escape this annoying dirty work?” Judy thought, turned around and saw Kate putting away her books.
The final bell rang, and classmates rushed out. The setting sun cast a warm golden light outside, but the classroom was in a mess. Judy was eager to rush out for the lovely view. Just then, Kate came over, carrying cleaning tools and a pair of new pink gloves. Judy inched toward the door, planning to make up the same excuse. As if able to read Judy’s mind, Kate said, “Don’t even think about it.” Then, handing her the gloves, Kate smiled, “I thought you might hate getting your hands covered in cleaner (清洁剂). Come on, let’s start with the windows!” Kate said, already spraying (喷洒) the cleaning liquid.
Unwillingly, Judy put on the gloves and picked up a cloth, wiping the windows without much enthusiasm. Kate didn’t urge her at all. Instead, she concentrated fully on polishing a piece of window glass, just as strict as Judy had imagined. The golden sunset shone through the glass and fell softly on Kate’s shoulders, wrapping her in warm orange light and creating a lovely sight. Judy walked unconsciously close to Kate and raised her head.

Dear Tom,
I’m glad to receive your letter and tell you about our school’s Green Earth environmental activities. We took a professional waste-sorting lecture to learn how to classify rubbish properly. Besides, we held a second-hand goods exchange fair, where we traded unused books, stationery and clothes.
I really enjoyed the activities. It felt great to reuse old things instead of throwing them away. Now I fully understand environmental protection is vital. It saves limited natural resources and reduces pollution. Small daily efforts together can make a huge difference to our planet.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

参考范文
Looking through the freshly wiped glass at the sky, Judy widened her eyes. The sunset was breathtaking — soft orange clouds stretching across the sky, framed perfectly by the clean glass. For the first time, she felt a sense of connection. “It’s beautiful,” she whispered. Kate smiled gently. A strange sense of accomplishment welled up inside Judy. She realized that labor was not about dust and sweat, but about creating something worthy. She began to wipe more seriously, feeling a quiet joy spreading in her heart.
Appreciating the tidy classroom, the two girls heard Susan’s approaching footsteps. The head teacher stepped in and looked around with surprise. The windows sparkled and the floor was spotless. Susan’s face broke into a warm smile. “Wonderful job, girls! I’m proud of you.” She turned to Judy, “I see you’ve discovered the joy of labor.” Judy felt her cheeks warm. She no longer saw cleaning as something to escape from — it brought peace to her heart and pride to her soul.

M: OK. Have a look at the table. You can see the names of the clubs, the costs and number of members. I’m afraid they are not in any order. If you look at the top of the list, the first club is table tennis.
W: Oh, right. It costs $30. That’s quite expensive.
M: Yes, it is a bit expensive. The cross-country cycling club is cheaper, though. Membership fees are only $15, but on the other hand, it’s got 100 members.
W: The film club costs a lot, doesn’t it?
M: Yes, $50 is a lot. Is there any other club that you think looks interesting? Look at the next one, street dance. It’s the cheapest. Only $5.
W: That’s great. It is to my taste.

Hello, everyone, my name’s Sandy Duffy and I’m here to tell you about my job as a video game writer. I work with game developers and designers to think of good stories, and I write all the dialogues in the game by myself. When I was in secondary school, I never imagined that I would do this job! I played the violin and that was what I planned to do as my job. But I had an accident when I was playing basketball and hurt my hand, so I had to think of doing something else. My mother wanted me to be a journalist, but I didn’t think it was for me. I didn’t know what to study at university. After graduation I went to a film school where I studied lighting, special effects, how to use a camera, and all that (诸如此类)! It was there that I decided to work in the video game industry. People also ask me what I like best about being a video game writer. Well, the money is good and it’s quite exciting. Just last night, for example, I was at a big dinner where they were giving prizes for new games. But what I love most is the fact that I get on so well with everyone in the company. That’s what makes my job so much fun.

【答案】24.A 25.D 26.A 27.D

【答案】Dear Tom,
I’m glad to receive your letter and tell you about our school’s Green Earth environmental activities.
Yours,
Li Hua

第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
(1)续写词数应为 150 个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Looking through the freshly wiped glass at the sky, Judy widened her eyes.
