Personal Forgiveness
Taking responsibility for mistakes is a positive step, but don’t beat yourself up about them. To err (犯错) is human. 16D You can use the following writing exercise to help you do this.
In a journal or on a piece of paper, put the heading “Personal strengths.” 17 Are you caring? Creative? Generous? A good listener? Fun to be around? They don’t have to be world-changing, just aspects of your personality that you’re proud of.
At the top of a second page, put the heading “Acts of kindness.” On this one, list all the positive things you’ve done for others. It might be the time when you helped a friend with their homework, when you did the ironing without being asked, or when you baked cookies after the family had had a tiring day. 18 F
You could ask a friend or family member to help add to your list. 19 C That way, you could exchange thoughts on what makes each of you special and the aspects of your personality that shine through. In fact, don’t wait until you’ve made a mistake to try this—it’s a great way to boost self-confidence at any time.
It’s something of a cliché (陈词滥调) that most people learn not from their successes but their mistakes. The thing is, it’s true. 20 G We’ re all changing and learning all the time and mistakes are a positive way to develop and grow.
A. A little self-forgiveness also goes a long way.
B. Now list all the characteristics you like about yourself.
C. They might even like to have a go at doing the exercise.
D. It’s just as important to show yourself some forgiveness.
E. It doesn’t mean you have to ignore what’s happened or forget it.
F. Whatever it is, no matter how small it might seem, write it down.
G. Whatever the mistake, remember it isn’t a fixed aspect of your personality.
Overtourism Is For Real: How Can You Help?
Travel promotes understanding, expands our minds, makes us better people, and boosts local economies and communities, but the rapid growth of travel has led to overtourism in certain regions and destinations. ___36_B__ Certainly not. The loss of what travel offers would be unacceptable in today’s world. Here are some tips on making wise decisions to minimize pressure on the places we visit and improve our experience.
●Choose mindfully. Overvisited destinations are that way for a reason: they’re special. With so many online posts featuring the same places, it’s easy to feel like you’re missing out. Go somewhere only when the landscape, culture or food deeply draws you. ___37_C__
●Get creative. The best way to ease pressure on over-touristed destinations is to go somewhere else. Though overtourism is described as a problem affecting the entire world, it’s actually concentrated to a small number of extremely popular spots. That means you have tons of less-visited options to choose from. ___38_E__ Why not try a regional alternative or check out a popular destination’s lesser-known sights?
●___39___ Minimize impact and maximize experience by skipping major holidays or rush hour. You’ll compete with fewer tourists, save money, experience a different side of a popular place, and boost the economy when tourism is traditionally slower.
Visiting a place that others call home is a privilege(荣幸). Do your part to preserve what makes a destination special in the first place. ___40 G___ You may be amazed how much closer you’ll feel to the people there.
A. Visit during off-peak times.
B. So, should we stop traveling?
C. Travel for you and no one else.
D. Can overtourism be avoided then?
E. You can still find relatively undiscovered places.
F. You’ll find yourself virtually alone, or close to it.
G. Consider giving back to the communities you’re visiting.
Not all great writers are great spellers. If you want to be published, it’s vital to submit a perfect, professionally presented manuscript(原稿). 36.F No editor is likely to tolerate a writer who does not take the trouble to spell words correctly.
I keep two reference books close-by on my desk: dictionary and thesaurus(同义词词典). I don’t trust my laptop’s spellchecker. 37 Of course, these days there are plenty of online dictionaries and thesauruses, but I’m old-fashioned enough to prefer a hard cover and pages I can leaf through with my fingers. I use the Concise Oxford Dictionary and the Collins Thesaurus.
38 E It should give you a precise definition of each word, thus differentiating it from other words whose meanings are similar, but not identical. It will also usually show how the word is pronounced.
In addition, I have an old two-volume copy of the Shorter Oxford Dictionary, picked up a few years ago in a bookshop sale for just 99 pence. Of course, with its 2,672 pages, it’s not exactly short. It contains around 163,000 words, plus word combinations and idiomatic phrases. 39 A However, if I need to check the origin of a word or to look up examples of its usage, there’s nothing better.
For well over a hundred years the most influential English dictionary was Samuel Johnson’s Dictionary of the English Language published in 1755. “To make dictionaries is dull (乏味) work,” wrote Johnson, illustrating one definition of “dull”. 40 D A few minutes spent casting your eye over a page or two can be a rewarding experience.
A. I don’t often use this dictionary.
B. It takes no account of the context.
C. But I still don’t want to replace them.
D. But a dictionary can be a pleasure to read.
E. Of course, a dictionary is not only for spelling.
F. That means good grammar and no spelling mistakes.
G. Dictionaries don’t always give you enough information.
根据上文“I don’t trust my laptop’s spellchecker.(我不相信我笔记本电脑的拼写检查器。)”提到了作者不相信电脑的拼写检查器;下文“Of course, these days there are plenty of online dictionaries and thesauruses, but I’m old-fashioned enough to prefer a hard cover and pages I can leaf through with my fingers.(当然,现在有很多在线词典和同义词库,但我是一个守旧的人,更喜欢精装的书和能用手指翻阅的书页。)” It指代的是 “my laptop’s spellchecker”, 故选B项。
Indoor plants might look as if they just sit around not doing much, but in many ways they are the unsung heroes of the home. 36 B , but studies have shown that they can promote people’s wellbeing by improving their mood(心情), reducing stress and helping their memory. What’s more, indoor plants are easy to look after and are not very expensive.
What are indoor plants?
Indoor plants, also known as houseplants or pot plants, are plants that like to grow indoors. Many of these species(物种) are not ideally suited to growing outside in the UK, especially in the winter. 37 .
Why are indoor plants good for you?
Will Spoelstra, who works at the Royal Botanic Gardens, says, “ 38C . I find during the winter months, plants around the house can really lift your mood.” Several studies have backed this up and found that indoor plants can improve creativity, focus and memory. There is also research showing that pot plants can clean the air around them by removing harmful gases, such as carbon dioxide. They also remove some harmful chemicals from paints or cooking. 39 E .
Which plants can you grow?
Aloe vera, peace lilies and spider plants are some of the species that are easy to grow indoors. You can buy plants from supermarkets, garden centres or online. Younger plants are often cheaper than fully grown ones, and you get to care for them as they mature — which is part of the joy of owning plants. “ 40G ,” Spoelstra says. “It can bring a new interest and focus into people’s lives and help to make the link between home and nature.”
A. All plants are different
B. Not only do they look beautiful
C. There are many benefits to growing plants indoors
D. Instead, they grow better inside, where it is warmer
E. Plants like peace lilies and devil’s tongue are among the best
F. Changing the pot of your plant from time to time will also help
G. Learning about the requirements of each plant can be very rewarding
根据上文“Many of these species (物种) are not ideally suited to growing outside in the UK, especially in the winter.(这些品种中的许多都不适合在英国户外生长,尤其是在冬天)”可知,有些植物不适合在户外寒冷的环境中生长,即适合在温暖的地方生长。 D. Instead, they grow better inside, where it is warmer(相反,它们在温暖的室内生长得更好)能够承接上文,they 指代的是“many of these species”符合语境。故选D。

Passage 1
A good cover letter used to be a bridge between an applicant’s CV and the job demands. It helped employers find promising candidates, especially those with an employment history orthogonal to their career goals. 1 . It showed the applicant cared enough about the position to put in the effort, instead of just scrawling their desired salary on the resume and mass-mailing it everywhere.
However, the rise of large language models has changed this situation. 2 . With just a click, anyone can create a perfectly targeted cover letter that touches on all the job’s stated requirements. Now, everyone can present themselves as a careful and diligent applicant, even hundreds of times a day.
Comparing pre-and post-ChatGPT data, two key changes stand out. First, cover letters have become longer. Before LLMs, the median length was 79 words; after ChatGPT, it rose to 104 words. AI-generated letters are even longer, with a median of 159 words. 3 . When only some letters showed effort, they were likely from top workers, so employers read them closely. But when all letters seem “effortful,” reading them becomes useless.
Researchers used AI to score the letters on nine aspects, such as whether applicants read the job ad and if their English was clear. 4 . The median score nearly doubled after LLMs appeared.
This change has serious consequences. Previously, a well-written cover letter brought an extra $26 per task. 5 . Employers can no longer tell strong candidates from weak ones, so they cut new hires’ pay by 5% and hire worse people. While businesses benefit from lower wages, workers’ losses are much greater.
A. Second, companies no longer care about the content of cover letters
B. It also served as an important form of communication
C. But this salary bonus disappeared with the arrival of AI
D. Job seekers no longer need to spend much time writing cover letters
E. The score ranged from 0 to 2 for each aspect, with a maximum total of 18
F. Many employers have stopped using cover letters to screen candidates
G. Cover letters are now considered the most important part of job applications
Passage 2
How to Use Your Inner Voice
We all have an inner voice, and while it can be supportive, it can also become overly critical. The good news: 6 Here are three science-backed strategies to refine(改善) your inner dialogue, inspired by the groundbreaking work of psychologist Ethan Kross.
Distancing Ourselves from Negative Thoughts
7 Kross’s research on self-distancing offers a powerful solution. By referring to yourself in the third person or using your own name, you create psychological distance which reduces emotional reactivity. For instance, instead of thinking, “I’m failing”, try telling yourself, “[Add Your Name], you’re learning through this challenge.” This simple shift can help you approach problems with clarity and objectivity.
Inner Coach vs. Inner Critic
8 It helps us plan, solve problems, and motivate ourselves. But it can also make us more anxious and hurt our relationships. Kross recommends that we should make the most of its good points while keeping its bad ones in check. When you’re faced with self-criticism, try shifting to your inner coach for guidance. These slight changes in how we talk to ourselves can lower our stress and help us solve problems better.
Growing through Positive Self-Dialogue
Building a constructive inner voice requires practice. Just before bed, journal about a moment where positive self-talk helped you. 9 Over time, this habit can help reinforce a growth mindset and prepare you to tackle challenges with more confidence.
Conclusion
By practicing self-distancing, reframing criticism, and reflecting on positive moments, you can turn your inner voice into a source of strength and clarity. 10
A. Our inner voice cuts both ways.
B. Feeling overwhelmed by your inner critic?
C. Talking to yourself empowered you during tough times.
D. Self-talk can be transformed into a tool for growth and success.
E. We can learn to identify negative thought patterns and avoid them.
F. Start today — because your inner voice shapes how you show up in the world.
G. Reflect on how it shaped your response and what you can carry into tomorrow.
Passage 3
During adolescence, your body goes through many changes. 11 It is simply how you perceive, think and feel about yourself. You can develop either a positive or negative body image, depending on your mindset. It is influenced by factors such as peer pressure, media and culture, which can lead to negative feelings if you don’t meet those expectations.
A negative body image may result in unhealthy behaviors — extreme dieting, overeating, overexercise, social withdrawal, and more. 12 What’s more, you may fail to appreciate other positive aspects such as your talents and personality.
Here are some tips for you to develop a positive body image.
First, acknowledge that we are all unique individuals. If everyone looked the same, the world would be a boring place. 13 Beauty standards keep changing constantly, and the “ideal” images of models or celebrities in media are often crafted through makeup, strategic angles, specific lighting, and digital editing like Photoshop.
14 Avoid passing comments about people’s outer image, and you will then stop criticizing yourself too. If you have peers who constantly comment about your look, consider whether they’re the right company for you.
Ultimately, remember that your body image is simply YOUR perception of your body. This means you have the power to change this, even if you do not have the ability to change the perception of others. 15
A. You start forming an image of your body.
B. Actually, there is no such thing as a perfect body.
C. It is your choice; do not let others decide for you.
D. The changes make you mature physically and mentally.
E. Besides, comment with kindness rather than judgment.
F. It also decreases the overall satisfaction you have in life.
G. Also, instead of appearances, value people for who they really are.
Passage 4
In order to survive in the world with challenges, we need to be wise. 16 Let me tell you this, wisdom provides us with perspective when we need it and it calms us down in terrible situations. Here are some strategies that we can use to get wiser.
17 This will open up new pathways for us. Never base your perspective on the most popular opinion or which is the most comfortable for you. Train your mind to be a judgment-free space for ideas. If you are humble, then you will always get to experience something new.
You must be the kind of person who learns something new every day. Take new classes, read books and the list goes on and on. 18 All of these activities will help you to tackle problems from different angles, making everything easier.
You obviously want to grow and do better in life, right? The best way is to have wise people as your mentors(导师), like teachers, colleagues and even special friends. Prior to making them a mentor, find out what makes them wiser, then engage in useful dialogue with them. 19
If you have accumulated a lot of knowledge, then why not share it with others too? 20 In today’s world, it is very easy to become wise but it isn’t easy to help others. So keep things balanced and never let go of your passions and values. This will pave the path to success.
A. Why do we communicate with wise people?
B. Why is wisdom crucial in this modern world?
C. Change your routine and see where life takes you.
D. Surf the Internet and clear out your problems that confuse you.
E. Sometimes we ourselves need to be open to diverse perspectives.
F. The more time is spent with them, the more transfer of knowledge there will be.
G. Communicating with others and helping them out will also increase your wisdom.
Passage 5
The Science of Risk-Seeking
Sometimes we decide that a little unnecessary danger is worth it because when we weigh the risk and the reward, the risk seems worth taking. 21 Some of us enjoy activities that would surprise and scare the rest of us. Why? Experts say it may have to do with how our brains work?
The reason why any of us take any risks at all might have to do with early humans. Risk-takers were better at hunting, fighting, or exploring. 22 As the quality of risk-taking was passed from one generation to the next, humans ended up with a sense of adventure and a tolerance for risk.
So why aren’t we all jumping out of airplanes then? Well, even 200,000 years ago, too much risk-taking could get one killed. A few daring survived, though, along with a few stay-in-the-cave types. As a result, humans developed a range of character types that still exists today. So maybe you love car racing, or maybe you hate it. 23
No matter where you are on the risk-seeking range, scientists say that your willingness to take risks increases during your teenage years. 24 To help you do that, your brain increases your hunger for new experiences. New experiences often mean taking some risks, so your brain raises your tolerance for risk as well.
25 For the risk-seekers a part of the brain related to pleasure becomes active, while for the rest of us, a part of the brain related to fear becomes active.
As experts continue to study the science of risk-seeking, we’ll continue to hit the mountains, the waves or the shallow end of the pool.
A. It all depends on your character.
B. Those are the risks you should jump to take.
C. Being better at those things meant a greater chance of survival.
D. Thus, these well-equipped people survived because they were the fittest.
E. This is when you start to move away from your family and into the bigger world.
F. However, we are not all using the same reference standard to weigh risks and rewards.
G. New brain research suggests our brains work differently when we face a nervous situation.
Passage 6
How to add green tech to your home
Green tech involves combining technology and science to create environmentally friendly products. The idea is by using products and services in the home to reduce energy consumption, waste, or harmful effects on the environment, we can all help the planet. 26
Install smart light bulbs
One quick way to reduce energy use is to switch all your light bulbs to energy-efficient versions called smart bulbs and use a virtual assistant to control them. These bulbs tend to use about 7 to 9.5 watts of power yet provide the same amount of light a 60-watt ordinary bulb offers. 27 Just use your phone to shut them down.
28
Smart plugs are a great option, too, for controlling devices like televisions, coffee makers, or almost anything that plugs into a wall socket to work. Devices like these use energy just by being plugged in, so using your phone or virtual assistant to turn the plugs on or off as needed helps stop energy drain in its tracks.
Upcycle or recycle your old tech
Tech is everywhere in our homes, and when a device gets old, we tend to replace it with a newer, better, faster version. It’s okay to get the latest device, but why not reuse and repurpose the older ones? For example, you can upcycle your old computers and laptops by repurposing them into home security monitors. Got an old Android phone? 29
It’s not hard to start adding green tech to your home. 30 Once you start, you’ll quickly see how convenient green tech can be and how easy it is to start using it.
A. Add smart plugs everywhere
B. Forgot to turn off the lights?
C. Anyone can achieve it easily.
D. Upcycle it into a remote control for your TV.
E. Upcycle it instead of throwing it into the dust bin.
F. The real difficulty is in deciding to take that first small step today.
G. Below are several quick and easy ideas you can start using today.
Passage 7
Running offers numerous advantages such as enhancing health and even forming new friendships. 31 Do you want to break the tape at the finish line? Here are quality tips on how to run cross-country faster.
As with any running plan, boosting your cross-country rate starts with building a base. Aerobic(有氧的) fitness comes into play during this foundational phase, which means your muscles are receiving a sufficient amount of oxygen and energy. 32
Apart from consistent running, for an anaerobic(无氧的) push, it’s essential to occasionally add in anaerobic exercise: strides — short bursts of a faster pace, which can sharpen the legs. You can do something a little bit quick over a brief duration. 33 Training anaerobically comes in handy for that end-of-the-race kick.
34 Compared to road racing, cross-country landscapes are undeniably diverse with windy paths, steep hills or sharp turns, seeming impossible to gain speed on. A good knowledge of the types of environment you’ll be racing on guarantees you know how to engage your muscles differently on the race day.
A track is flat and controlled with at most 20 people in a race while in cross-country, you can have up to 200 people on the starting line. Be aware of who is around you and use them as a reference point and find that moment to speed up. It’s hard to put a time to one course with courses ranging from flat golf courses to hilly, muddy paths. 35 It’s more about the competition, not the time.
A. Is there a specific technique?
B. Just focus on the race at hand.
C. It enables them to sustain long runs.
D. You can refer to landmarks for the directions.
E. So when you do go faster, it won’t be a shock to the body.
F. Familiarity with the setting of the competition is also a must.
G. But when it comes to racing cross-country, speed matters most.
Passage 8
How to Prepare for the College Entrance Examination
The college entrance examination is one of the most important exams for senior three students. Preparing for it requires careful planning and hard work. Here are some practical tips to help you make full preparation for the exam.
36 . It is important to make a reasonable study plan. You should divide your time reasonably among different subjects, focusing on your weak subjects. At the same time, you should set clear goals for each study session and stick to them. A good study plan can help you make full use of your time and improve your study efficiency.
37 . Reviewing what you have learned regularly is very important. You should review your notes and textbooks every day, and summarize the key points and difficult points. This can help you consolidate your knowledge and avoid forgetting what you have learned. In addition, you should do more review exercises to test your mastery of knowledge.
38 . Doing mock exams is a good way to prepare for the college entrance examination. Mock exams can help you get familiar with the exam format, improve your exam skills and adjust your exam state. You should take mock exams seriously, simulate the real exam environment and check your mistakes in time.
39 . Maintaining a good attitude is crucial for the exam. You should not be too nervous or anxious. Instead, you should stay calm and confident. When you face difficulties, you should encourage yourself and never give up. In addition, you should have a positive attitude towards failure, as failure is a good opportunity to learn and improve.
40 . A healthy body is the foundation of effective study. You should have a balanced diet, do more exercise and get enough sleep. Avoid staying up late to study, as this will affect your study efficiency and health. Taking proper rest can help you stay energetic and focus on your study.
A. Make a reasonable study plan
B. Do more mock exams
C. Review regularly and consolidate knowledge
D. Learn to manage your time
E. Maintain a good attitude
F. Keep a healthy body
G. Focus on your strong subjects
Passage 9
Communicating with Nature
The natural world is amazing. In fact, it is one that you can have a “conversation” with. 41 Apart from the obvious-that it’s an enjoyable, uplifting thing to do-you may seek to communicate with nature to benefit your mental health, for example.
When you arrive at your chosen spot, sit quietly for a few moments. 42 Just talk in your head as you would to someone you’re opening a conversation with. “Hey, I’m Nikki. How are you doing today? Do you have time for a chat?” It doesn’t matter what you say, so long as you say it with an open heart, and you make it clear that you’re inviting communication.
43 A million ways. You may notice a particular animal or insect coming closer to you and communicating energetically. You may notice a rhythm(韵律) or a pattern in the sound of the water or of the wind. Be mindful of what’s going on around you, be part of the natural world——you’ll soon notice so many ways in which your answers may come.
The first few times you attempt this exercise, you probably won’t see, hear or notice anything you choose to interpret as communication. 44 If you practice this on a regular basis, however, you will start to pick things up. As you become more and more familiar with the oneness of yourself and the world around you, you will sense and understand more about what will occur during your “conversations”.
45 There should be some benefit to nature, just as there is a benefit to you. When your time is over and you’re ready to leave, say thank you energetically and in your mind, but also say thank you in a practical way. Leave the area in a better state than you found it, for example, by picking up rubbish on your way out.
A. That’s OK. It doesn’t happen overnight.
B. How will you know if nature responds to you?
C. Communication with nature should be a two-way street.
D. And then ask to communicate with the nature around you.
E. How can you start communicating with the natural world?
F. It just depends on what you choose for your “conversation”.
G. You may be wondering why you might want to communicate with nature.
Passage 10
To an outsider, any culture can seem confusing. And the UK's got a thing or two that raises a few eyebrows. However, understand the why and things might be less puzzling. 46 .
In a world where 61%of nations drive on the right, Brits drive on the left. Why? Most people think it goes back to Medieval, maybe even Roman times. 47 when you remember that right-handed people wear a sword on their left hip. Travelling on the left allowed you to keep your weapon arm toward your opponent, who would be on your right. This practice continued until the 18th century when a law was passed requiring all traffic crossing London Bridge to keep to the left.
Visitors to the UK that have just washed their hands in an old-fashioned sink might be wondering why one tap is only for hot water, the other cold. 48 . So, why this oddity? It relates to a time when hot and cold water were kept separate to prevent pollution. Drinkable cold water came from a mains supply, but hot water came from attic tanks and was not considered suitable for consumption. So they were kept apart.
Millions of people drink tea worldwide, but the odd Brits put milk in theirs. Why? This mysterious practice relates to the quality of china cup used in the 18th century when tea was first imposed. For the majority of Brits, the cups available couldn’t stand the heat of the boiling water and would break,so milk was added first. 49 . And this practical tweak soon became a national habit.
50 . As you can see, these odd Brits have perfectly clear reasons for left-hand driving,two-tap sinks and tea with milk. Even if they still seem strange, at least now you’re in the know.
A. This makes it difficult to improve
B. There is a method to the madness
C. This unusual behavior makes sense
D. You can know the origins of the practices
E. Either can make washing very uncomfortable
F. This cooled the cup enough to resist the boiling water
G. Here are the reasons for three of Britain’s more puzzling practices

B 2. D 3. A 4. E 5. C
1. 根据前文“A good cover letter used to be a bridge between an applicant’s CV and the job demands. It helped employers find promising candidates, especially those with an employment history orthogonal to their career goals.(一封好的求职信曾经是申请人简历和工作要求之间的桥梁。它帮助雇主找到有前途的候选人,尤其是那些就业经历与职业目标不一致的人)”可知,前文主要介绍了求职信的作用,空格后“It showed the applicant cared enough about the position to put in the effort(它表明申请人足够关心这个职位,愿意付出努力)”进一步说明其作用,因此空格处应承接前文,继续阐述求职信的功能。选项B“It also served as an important form of communication(它也是一种重要的沟通方式)”中的also体现了递进关系,符合上下文逻辑。故选B项。
2. 根据前文“However, the rise of large language models has changed this situation.(然而,大型语言模型的兴起改变了这种情况)”及后文“With just a click, anyone can create a perfectly targeted cover letter that touches on all the job’s stated requirements.(只需点击一下,任何人都可以创建一封完全针对性的求职信,涵盖所有工作要求)”可知,空格处应体现大型语言模型对求职者撰写求职信的影响,即撰写变得更便捷。选项D“Job seekers no longer need to spend much time writing cover letters(求职者不再需要花费大量时间撰写求职信)”符合语境,说明AI让求职信撰写更高效,衔接前后文。故选D项。
3. 根据前文“Comparing pre-and post-ChatGPT data, two key changes stand out. First, cover letters have become longer.(对比ChatGPT出现前后的数据,有两个关键变化很突出。首先,求职信变得更长了)”可知,前文提及第一个变化,空格处应介绍第二个变化。选项A“Second, companies no longer care about the content of cover letters(其次,公司不再关心求职信的内容)”中的Second与前文First形成并列,且后文“When only some letters showed effort, they were likely from top workers, so employers read them closely. But when all letters seem ‘effortful,’ reading them becomes useless.(当只有部分求职信体现出努力时,它们很可能来自优秀员工,所以雇主会仔细阅读。但当所有求职信看起来都‘费力撰写’时,阅读它们就变得毫无意义了)”可支撑A项内容,说明公司不再关注求职信内容的原因。故选A项。
4. 根据前文“Researchers used AI to score the letters on nine aspects, such as whether applicants read the job ad and if their English was clear.(研究人员使用人工智能从九个方面对求职信进行评分,比如申请人是否阅读了招聘广告以及英语是否清晰)”可知,空格处应与评分标准相关。选项E“The score ranged from 0 to 2 for each aspect, with a maximum total of 18(每个方面的得分从0到2不等,总分最高为18分)”具体说明了评分范围,承接前文“九个方面”,且与后文“The median score nearly doubled after LLMs appeared.(大型语言模型出现后,中位数得分几乎翻了一番)”形成呼应。故选E项。
根据前文“Previously, a well-written cover letter brought an extra $26 per task.(以前,一封写得好的求职信每项任务能带来26美元的额外收入)”及后文“Employers can no longer tell strong candidates from weak ones, so they cut new hires’ pay by 5% and hire worse people.(雇主再也无法区分优秀候选人和弱势候选人,因此他们将新员工的工资降低了5%,并雇佣了更差的人)”可知,空格处应体现AI兴起后,求职信带来的薪资优势消失。选项C“But this salary bonus disappeared with the arrival of AI(但随着人工智能的到来,这种薪资奖金消失了)”中的but体现转折关系,衔接前文的薪资优势与后文的薪资降低,符合上下文逻辑。故选C项。
D 7. B 8. A 9. G 10. F
6. 上文“We all have an inner voice, and while it can be supportive, it can also become overly critical.
8. 下文“It helps us plan, solve problems, and motivate ourselves. But it can also make us more anxious and hurt our relationships.(它帮助我们计划,解决问题和激励自己。但它也会让我们更加焦虑,伤害我们的关系)”说明内在的声音可以起到好坏两方面的作用,选项A“我们内心的声音是双向的。”引出下文,是对下文的总结,故选A项。
9. 上文“Just before bed, journal about a moment where positive self-talk helped you.(睡前,记录一下积极的自我对话对你有帮助的时刻)”说明睡前要反思,记下积极的自我对话对你有帮助的时刻,选项G“反思它是如何塑造你的反应的,以及你明天可以做些什么。”承接上文,睡前除了记录积极的自我对话对你有帮助的时刻,还要反思它是如何塑造你的反应的,并引出下文“Over time, this habit can help reinforce a growth mindset and prepare you to tackle challenges with more confidence.(随着时间的推移,这个习惯可以帮助你加强成长的心态,让你更自信地应对挑战)”。故选G项。
10. 上文“By practicing self-distancing, reframing criticism, and reflecting on positive moments, you can turn your inner voice into a source of strength and clarity.(通过练习自我疏远,重新审视批评,反思积极的时刻,你可以把你内心的声音变成力量和清晰的源泉)”说明通过一些做法,把内心的声音转变成力量,选项F“从今天开始——因为你内心的声音决定了你在这个世界上的表现。”
A 12. F 13. B 14. G 15. C
11. 根据上文“During adolescence, your body goes through many changes.(青春期期间,你的身体会经历许多变化。)”及下文“It is simply how you perceive, think and feel about yourself.(它只是你对自己的感知、想法和感受。)” A选项“You start forming an image of your body.(你开始形成对自己身体的形象认知。)”中的“forming an image”对应“perceive, think and feel”,“body”衔接“body goes through changes”,解释了青春期身体变化与身体形象认知的关联。故选A项。
12. 根据上文“A negative body image may result in unhealthy behaviors — extreme dieting, overeating, overexercise, social withdrawal, and more.(负面的身体形象可能导致不健康的行为——极端节食、暴饮暴食、过度锻炼、社交退缩等。)”及下文“What’s more, you may fail to appreciate other positive aspects such as your talents and personality. (此外,你可能无法欣赏其他积极的方面,比如你的才能和个性。)”可知,需补充负面身体形象的另一影响。F选项“It also decreases the overall satisfaction you have in life.(它还会降低你对生活的总体满意度。)”中的“It”指代“negative body image”,“also decreases”承接上文“result in unhealthy behaviors”,与“What’s more”共同构成递进关系,说明负面影响的多样性。故选F项。
13. 根据上文“First, acknowledge that we are all unique individuals. If everyone looked the same, the world would be a boring place. (首先,要承认我们都是独一无二的个体。如果每个人看起来都一样,这个世界将会变得枯燥乏味。)”及下文“Beauty standards keep changing constantly, and the “ideal” images of models or celebrities in media are often crafted through makeup, strategic angles, specific lighting, and digital editing like Photoshop. (美容标准在不断变化,媒体中模特或名人的“理想”形象往往是通过化妆、巧妙的角度、特定的光线以及像Photoshop这样的数字修图打造出来的。)”可知,需强调“完美身材”的虚幻性。B选项“Actually, there is no such thing as a perfect body.(实际上,不存在完美的身材这种东西。)”
14. 根据下文“Avoid passing comments about people’s outer image, and you will then stop criticizing yourself too. (避免对他人的外在形象评头论足,你也会随之停止过度苛责自己。)”可知,本段核心为“避免外貌评判”。G选项“Also, instead of appearances, value people for who they really are.(此外,与其关注外表,不如重视人们的本质。)”中的also呼应了上一段中的first以及下一段中的ultimately,“appearances”对应“outer image”,“value who they really are”引出“关注内在”的建议,与“停止自我批评”形成逻辑关联,符合段落主旨。故选G项。
15. 根据上文“Ultimately, remember that your body image is simply YOUR perception of your body. This means you have the power to change this, even if you do not have the ability to change the perception of others. (最后请记住,你对自己身体的认知仅仅是你个人的看法。这意味着即使你无法改变他人的看法,你也有能力改变自己的这种认知。)”可知,需总结“自我认知的主导权”。C选项“It is your choice; do not let others decide for you.(这是你的选择;不要让别人为你做决定。)”中的“It is your choice”强调“自我决定”,“do not let others decide”呼应“have the power to change this”,总结全文,强化“主动塑造积极身体形象”的核心观点。故选C项。
B 17. E 18. D 19. F 20. G
16. 根据空前的“In order to survive in the world with challenges, we need to be wise.(为了在这个充满挑战的世界上生存,我们需要变得聪明)”以及后文“Let me tell you this, wisdom provides us with perspective when we need it and it calms us down in terrible situations.(让我告诉你,当我们需要的时候,智慧会给我们提供视角,在糟糕的情况下,智慧会让我们冷静下来)”可知,智慧对每个人来说都是十分重要的,所以B项“为什么智慧在现代社会如此重要?”
17. 分析设空,位于段首,是本段的中心句,根据后文“This will open up new pathways for us. Never base your perspective on the most popular opinion or which is the most comfortable for you. Train your mind to be a judgment-free space for ideas. If you are humble, then you will always get to experience something new.(这将为我们开辟新的道路。永远不要把你的观点建立在最流行的观点或对你来说最舒服的观点上。训练你的大脑成为一个不受评判的思想空间。如果你是谦虚的,那么你总能体验到新的东西)”可知,本段主张应学会接受不同的观点,所以E项“有时候,我们自己也需要对不同的观点持开放态度”符合文意。故选E项。
18. 根据上文“You must be the kind of person who learns something new every day. Take new classes, read books and the list goes on and on.(你一定要是那种每天都能学到新东西的人。参加新的课程,阅读书籍,这样的例子不胜枚举)”以及后文“All of these activities will help you to tackle problems from different angles, making everything easier.(所有这些活动将帮助你从不同的角度解决问题,使一切变得更容易)”可知,空处应承接上文,继续列举学习新事物的方式,D项“上网冲浪,清除那些让你困惑的问题”符合语境,下文中的“All of these activities”即指代前两句话,且D项中的“clear out your problems”与下文中的“tackle problems”相呼应。故选D项。
19. 分析设空,位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“You obviously want to grow and do better in life, right? The best way is to have wise people as your mentors(导师), like teachers, colleagues and even special friends. Prior to making them a mentor, find out what makes them wiser, then engage in useful dialogue with them.(你显然想要成长,想要在生活中做得更好,对吗?最好的方法是找一些有智慧的人做你的导师,比如老师、同事,甚至是特别的朋友。在成为他们的导师之前,找出是什么让他们更聪明,然后与他们进行有益的对话)”可知,本段的主题为“以智者为师”,所以F项“与他们相处的时间越多,知识的传递就越多”与本段主题相符,且F项中的“them”与上文中的“them”相呼应。故选F项。
20. 根据前文“If you have accumulated a lot of knowledge, then why not share it with others too?(如果你积累了很多知识,那么为什么不与他人分享呢?)”
F 22. C 23. A 24. E 25. G
21. 根据前文because when we weigh the risk and the reward, the risk seems worth tasking. Some of us enjoy activities that would surprise and scare the rest of us.
Risk-takers were better at hunting,fighting,or exploring.
So maybe you love car racing,or maybe you hate it. 故选A。
24. 根据前文scientists say that your Willingness to take risks increases during your teenage years. To help you do that, your brain increases your hunger for new experiences.
For the risk-seekers a part of the brain related to pleasure becomes active, while for the rest of us, a part of the brain related to fear becomes active.
G 27. B 28. A 29. D 30. F
26. 根据前文“Green tech involves combining technology and science to create environmentally friendly products. The idea is by using products and services in the home to reduce energy consumption, waste, or harmful effects on the environment, we can all help the planet.(绿色科技是指将技术和科学相结合,创造出对环境友好的产品。这个想法是通过在家里使用产品和服务来减少能源消耗、浪费或对环境的有害影响,我们都可以帮助地球)”可知,本文的主题是介绍绿色科技,以及在家里使用绿色科技来减少能源消耗、浪费或对环境的有害影响,所以G项“Below are several quick and easy ideas you can start using today.(下面是几个快速简单的方法,你可以从今天开始使用)”承接上文,进一步提出本文主题,引出下文。故选G项。
27. 根据前文“These bulbs tend to use about 7 to 9.5 watts of power yet provide the same amount of light a 60-watt ordinary bulb offers.(这些灯泡往往使用7到9.5瓦的功率,却能提供与60瓦普通灯泡相同的亮度)”以及后文“Just use your phone to shut them down.(用手机关掉他们就行了)”可知,前文内容和后文无法连接,所以空处应是一个过渡句,引出下文,B项“Forgot to turn off the lights?(忘记关灯了?)”
28. 分析设空,是本段小标题,应是对本段的高度概括,根据下文“Smart plugs are a great option, too, for controlling devices like televisions, coffee makers, or almost anything that plugs into a wall socket to work. Devices like these use energy just by being plugged in, so using your phone or virtual assistant to turn the plugs on or off as needed helps stop energy drain in its tracks.(智能插头也是一个很好的选择,可以用来控制电视、咖啡机或几乎任何可以插在墙上插座上工作的设备。像这样的设备只要插上电源就会消耗能量,所以使用你的手机或虚拟助手根据需要打开或关闭插头有助于阻止能量的消耗)”可知,本段主要讲述在家里使用智能插头,所以A项“Add smart plugs everywhere(到处添加智能插头)”符合本段主题,为本段小标题。故选A项。
29. 根据前文“For example, you can upcycle your old computers and laptops by repurposing them into home security monitors. Got an old Android phone?(例如,你可以升级你的旧电脑和笔记本电脑,把它们改造成家庭安全监视器。你有一部旧的安卓手机吗?)”可知,此处是针对本段主题在具体举例,所以空处应是说明把旧的安卓手机升级为“什么”,D项“Upcycle it into a remote control for your TV.(将其升级为电视遥控器)”符合实际。故选D项。
30. 根据前文“It’s not hard to start adding green tech to your home.(开始在家里添加绿色科技并不难)”以及后文“Once you start, you’ll quickly see how convenient green tech can be and how easy it is to start using it.(一旦你开始使用,你很快就会发现绿色科技是多么方便,开始使用它是多么容易)”可知,F项“The real difficulty is in deciding to take that first small step today.(真正的困难在于今天决定迈出第一步)”承接上文,引出下文,符合文意。故选F项。
G 32. C 33. E 34. F 35. B
31. 前文“Running offers numerous advantages such as enhancing health and even forming new friendships. (跑步有很多好处,比如增进健康,甚至结交新朋友)”提到跑步的各种好处,后文“Do you want to break the tape at the finish line? Here are quality tips on how to run cross-country faster. (你想冲过终点线吗?这里有一些关于如何更快地进行越野跑的优质建议)”指出有建议可以帮助跑得更快,空处应起到过渡作用,和跑步速度有关,因此G项“But when it comes to racing cross-country, speed matters most. (但在越野跑中,速度是最重要的)”符合语境,指出越野跑中速度最重要,和前文构成转折,引出后文的建议。故选G。
32. 前文“Aerobic (有氧的) fitness comes into play during this foundational phase, which means your muscles are receiving a sufficient amount of oxygen and energy.(有氧健身在这个基础阶段起作用,这意味着你的肌肉得到了足够的氧气和能量)”指出基础阶段需要进行有氧健身,增强肌肉,空处是段末句,应该是继续说明通过有氧运动增强肌肉对越野跑的用处,因此C项“It enables them to sustain long runs. (这使它们能够维持长时间的跑步)”符合语境,承接前文,其中的them指代前文的your muscles。故选C。
33. 前文“Apart from consistent running, for an anaerobic (无氧的) push, it’s essential to occasionally add in anaerobic exercise: strides — short bursts of a faster pace, which can sharpen the legs. You can do something a little bit quick over a brief duration.(除了持续的跑步,为了增强无氧能力,偶尔加入无氧运动也很重要:比如冲刺跑—短距离的快速跑,这能增强腿部力量。你可以进行一些短时间内的快速运动)”建议偶尔进行无氧运动,增强腿部力量,后文“Training anaerobically comes in handy for that end-of-the-race kick.(无氧训练对比赛快结束时的冲刺很有用)”指出无氧训练的好处,空处应该也是点明其好处,因此E项“So when you do go faster, it won’t be a shock to the body. (所以当你跑得更快时,它不会对身体造成冲击)”符合语境,承接前文。故选E。
34. 后文“Compared to road racing, cross-country landscapes are undeniably diverse with windy paths, steep hills or sharp turns, seeming impossible to gain speed on. A good knowledge of the types of environment you’ll be racing on guarantees you know how to engage your muscles differently on the race day.(与公路赛相比,越野赛的地形无疑更加多样,有蜿蜒曲折的小径、陡峭的山坡或急转弯,似乎很难提速。对比赛环境类型有充分的了解,能确保你在比赛当天知道如何以不同的方式调动肌肉)”主要说明越野赛地形多样,需要对其环境有所了解,空处作为段首句,应该是总的建议熟悉越野赛的环境,因此F项“Familiarity with the setting of the competition is also a must. (熟悉比赛的环境也是必须的)”符合语境,契合后文内容。故选 F。
35. 前文“It’s hard to put a time to one course with courses ranging from flat golf courses to hilly, muddy paths.(由于赛道类型多样,从平坦的高尔夫球场到起伏泥泞的小路都有,所以很难为一场比赛设定一个固定的时长)”指出为越野赛确定固定时长并不实际,后文“It’s more about the competition, not the time.(更重要的是竞争,而不是时间)”指出竞争本身比时间更重要,空处应该是建议关注比赛本身,因此 B项“Just focus on the race at hand. (专注于眼前的比赛)”符合语境,承前启后。故选B。

G 42. D 43. B 44. A 45. C
41. 空前说“The natural world is amazing. In fact, it is one that you can have a “conversation” with.(事实上,它是一个你可以与之“交谈”的对象。)”,说明我们可以和大自然交流,空后说“Apart from the obvious-that it’s an enjoyable, uplifting thing to do-you may seek to communicate with nature to benefit your mental health, for example.(除了显而易见的——这是一件令人愉快、令人振奋的事情——还有,例如,你可能会寻求与大自然交流,从而有益于你的心理健康。)”,这是在说与自然交流的目的,G选项“You may be wondering why you might want to communicate with nature.(你可能想知道为什么你想和大自然交流。)”
42. 空前说“When you arrive at your chosen spot, sit quietly for a few moments.(当你到达你选定的地点,静静地坐一会儿。)”,空后说“Just talk in your head as you would to someone you’re opening a conversation with.(就像和你要开始谈话的人一样,在脑子里说话。)”,说明此处是在说与自然交流的过程,空格处应该承接空前的内容,说然后该怎么做,D选项“And then ask to communicate with the nature around you.(然后要求与你周围的自然交流。)”
43. 空后说“A million ways. You may notice a particular animal or insect coming closer to you and communicating energetically. You may notice a rhythm (韵律) or a pattern in the sound of the water or of the wind.(千百万种方法。你可能会注意到一个特定的动物或昆虫向你靠近,并积极地交流。你可能会注意到水声或风声中的节奏或模式。)”,这是在说自然回应你的方式,因此空格处应该是提问你如何知道自然在回应你,B选项“How will you know if nature responds to you?(你怎么知道大自然对你的反应呢?)”提出该如何知道大自然在回应你,因此引起下文,符合语境,故选B。
44. 空前说“The first few times you attempt this exercise, you probably won’t see, hear or notice anything you choose to interpret as communication.(在你尝试这个练习的前几次,你可能不会看到、听到或注意到任何你选择解释为交流的东西。)”,说明刚开始你可能感觉不到你在和大自然交流,空后说“If you practice this on a regular basis, however, you will start to pick things up.(然而,如果你定期练习,你就会开始掌握一些东西。)” It doesn’t happen overnight.(没关系。这不是一夜之间发生的。)”说明与自然交流是需要时间练习的,因此承上启下,符合语境,故选A。
45. 空后说“There should be some benefit to nature, just as there is a benefit to you.(对自然应该有一些好处,就像对你有好处一样。)”,说明与自然交流是对你和对自然都有好处的,也就是双向的,C选项“Communication with nature should be a two-way street.(与自然的交流应该是双向的。)”
G 47. C 48. E 49. F 50. B
47. 根据本空后一句when you remember that right-handed people wear a sword on their left hip.
Visitors to the UK that have just washed their hands in an old-fashioned sink might be wondering why one tap is only for hot water, the other cold.
For the majority of Brits, the cups available couldn’t stand the heat of the boiling water and would break,so milk was added first.
There is a method to the madness,看似疯狂,实则有理,很好对上文进行总结,切题,故选B。
