Ways to Teach Kids Work Ethic Early
Ever watched your child try to get out of doing housework by making excuses? If only the effort they put into avoiding responsibility could be redirected into, well, actual responsibility. In fact, building work ethic (道德) in kids doesn’t require military-style drills. Here are four simple and practical ways.
● Make housework part of the family routine.
Involve your child in the daily running of the house: tidying toys, feeding the dog, watering the plants. ____36____ When the tasks become as routine as brushing teeth, kids internalise that helping with housework is simply part of life.
● ____37____
You can’t expect your child to tackle their tasks with enthusiasm while you’re complaining about loading the dishwasher. If your child sees you enjoying your work and taking pride in a job well done, they’re far more likely to do the same.
● Build determination through goals.
____38____ Sometimes you have to help them find their “thing.” Set small, achievable goals together with them and celebrate progress, not perfection. The trick is to let them struggle a bit — resist the urge to help fix things the moment they experience a setback.
….
A. The key is consistency.
B. Help kids develop analytical skills.
C. Model the work ethic you want to see.
D. Instead, encourage them to do differently next time.
E. Sometimes, a cleaner living room is the best reward.
F. Progress can be slow, and you’ll wonder if it’s all sinking in.
G. Not every child is born with the willpower of a marathon runner.
根据本段后文“You can’t expect your child to tackle their tasks with enthusiasm while you’re complaining about loading the dishwasher. If your child sees you enjoying your work and taking pride in a job well done, they’re far more likely to do the same.(你不能指望孩子满怀热情地处理自己的任务,而你自己却在抱怨把洗碗机里的碗碟摆好。如果你的孩子看到你享受工作、并为自己出色完成的事情感到自豪,他们就更有可能也这样做。)”可知,整段核心是家长自身行为会被孩子模仿,家长要做好榜样。C选项“Model the work ethic you want to see.(树立你希望孩子拥有的劳动榜样。)”
C选项“Model the work ethic you want to see.(树立你希望孩子拥有的劳动榜样。)”

G. Volunteering makes you feel capable and inspires you to make the most of each day.
.根据下文“Volunteering during teenage years has been linked to some major positive effects such as improved grades and increased self-confidence. These effects aren’t just short-term but have been proved to affect teen’s well-being in the years to come. (青少年时期参与志愿服务已被证实与一些重要的积极影响相关,例如成绩提升和自信心增强。这些影响并非只是短期的,而是已被证明会在未来数年持续影响青少年的身心健康)”可知,本段主题为志愿活动对青少年的长期影响。
第三步:锁定最佳答案。C选项“Volunteering has a lifelong effect on kids and teenagers. (志愿活动对儿童和青少年有终身影响)”中的“lifelong effect”对应“affect teen’s well-being in the years to come”,“on kids and teenagers”覆盖段落讨论的年龄群体,符合段落主旨。

4 signs your body is begging for a break
If the smoke alarm in your house is beeping, you’ll spring into action. Yet we’re not so fast to react to the alarm bells ringing in our own bodies, letting us know we need to slow down.
“A series of changes happen in the body when the stress response is activated in a sustained way,” says Jennifer King, assistant director of the Center on Trauma and Adversity at Case Western Reserve University. 1 . Here are the signs to watch out for.
Emotional changes
If you need a break, you might feel more anxious, more depressed, or more overwhelmed than usual. Your thoughts might start wandering. And you’ll likely “feel like you can’t remember things,” says Dr. Gerda Maissel, a physician and patient advocate. Stress can also prevent you from enjoying activities you once loved. 2 It’s a hint that something is off.
Tense relationship
“You might notice you’re feeling a little more emotional and bad-tempered” King says. “If you’re finding that you want to isolate a little more, and keep to yourself — if that’s something you weren’t already doing — that can be because of stress.” 3 . Often, other people are the first to notice warning signs.
4
Stress can weaken the immune system, causing you to get sick more frequently. You might notice you have a cough, a fever or a running nose more often than before.
Stomach and sleep issues
You may also experience digestive difficulties as well as appetite changes that cause you to gain or lose weight. 5
If you realize your body is pushing you toward a break, try claiming just a few minutes of calm with something pleasurable or fun. Taking a brief rest, “allows your body to metabolize some of what you’ve been taking in”, she says, “and to feel ready for whatever is coming next.”
A. Frequent colds
B. Physical weaknesses
C. You are not fond of anything shared by your friends
D. You dislike opening a book you’ve been looking forward to
E. Feeling more tired than usual is pretty likely a cue you need more rest
F. If a familiar one cares about your mood, try not to get defensive or ignore it
G. Over time, that can cause high blood pressure, heart disease, and weight gain
.根据下文“Stress can weaken the immune system, causing you to get sick more frequently. You might notice you have a cough, a fever or a running nose more often than before. (压力会削弱免疫系统,使你更容易生病。你可能会注意到自己比以前更经常咳嗽、发烧或流鼻涕。)”说明压力会导致人更易生病。A选项“Frequent colds (频繁感冒)”概括了这一部分内容,与下文内容相符,适合作小标题。故选A项。
故选A项。

(2025-2026学年河北昌黎第一中学高三年级下学期开学考试英语试卷)You may have heard of journaling as a tool for personal growth or mental health. In fact, studies have shown that journaling helps reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and even post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). 21
Organizing your thoughts
Our minds can be chaotic. Writing our thoughts down can help us gain some space from them. 22 When our thoughts are on paper, we can notice what is actually going on in our mind and use this information to make concrete goals. When we get clear on our needs, we can get clear on how to meet them, and thus live a happy, fulfilled life.
Zooming out to get perspective
Using journaling to record your day-to-day life can help you notice and break out of patterns that might be keeping you stuck. We all become involved in cycles of behavior that may not serve us in the long run. Keeping track of our lives can help us become more aware of what holds us back. 23 It allows us to notice what stays the same and what changes over time. With this awareness, we can use this information to make changes in our lives and relationships.
24
When we can get our stories onto a page, we materialize them into something meaningful and manageable. We can read our own narrative and ask ourselves, “How would I respond to a friend who had been through this experience?” Often, we are critical of ourselves. However, we are kind and compassionate toward others who have been through hard things. Journaling can help us extend that compassion toward ourselves.
Practicing gratitude
Gratitude journaling has been shown to improve mental health, interpersonal relationship quality, and even physical health and health behaviors. 25 It may be anything that makes you think, “I am lucky to have... in my life.” Realizing the abundance of good things we often miss can make us much happier. Meanwhile, those tough things seem insignificant and fade away.
A. Building self-compassion
B. Developing empathy for others
C. Looking back at old writings also helps
D. This can greatly reduce their emotional charge
E. Take time to reflect on what you are grateful for
F. Here is some advice on how to start journaling effectively
G. Here is how and why putting your thoughts onto paper helps
. 后文“When we can get our stories onto a page, we materialize them into something meaningful and manageable. Passage 2
(2026届陕西西北工业大学附属中学高三第三次适应训练)The rise of remote work has opened up new opportunities for people who want to explore the world while earning a living. One of the best career options for digital nomads(流浪者) is teaching English online.
6
English remains the global language of business, education and international communication. As such, there is continued high demand for qualified English teachers. Many students seek online lessons to improve their language skills, opening up numerous opportunities for teachers looking to work remotely.
Work from anywhere
7 . Unlike traditional teaching jobs, which require a fixed location, online teachers can set up their virtual classrooms from any country with a stable internet connection. Whether working from a beachside cafe, a mountain retreat or a bustling(繁华的) city, teachers have complete control over their work environment.
Flexible schedules
One of the main reasons why teaching English online is so appealing to travellers is its flexibility. 8 , online teaching allows individuals to set their own schedules. Many platforms let teachers choose their working hours, making it possible to work as much or as little as needed.
Low start-up costs and easy entry
Compared to other remote careers, teaching English online has minimal start-up costs. Many jobs require expensive degrees, certifications or investments in equipment, but teaching English online is relatively affordable to begin. While some companies demand a TEFL certification, others do not. 9 .
Work-life balance
Unlike traditional jobs that demand long hours in one location, online English teaching allows for an excellent work-life balance. 10 . They can work more hours when they need extra income and reduce hours when they want more free time. This flexibility makes it possible to experience new places without sacrificing financial stability.
A. Growing need for online English teachers
B. Unlike traditional office jobs with fixed hours
C. Increasing demand for international exchanges
D. It guarantees flexible working schedules and lower start-up costs
E. Teachers can adjust their workload depending on their travel plans
F. One of the greatest benefits for teachers is to work wherever they want
G. Consequently, people from different financial backgrounds can enter the profession
Passage 3
Travelling is such a wonderful opportunity and being able to travel on a budget makes it more accessible to people. Also, you spend less on one adventure, save for another. 11 . In this post I’ll share all my top tips for travelling on a budget.
Choose your destination carefully
12 . My first tip for travelling on a budget is to research places that are good for travelling on a budget. Maybe it’s somewhere that’s cheap and easy to get to, somewhere where the currency gets you good value because of the exchange rate, or somewhere that has a lower cost of living than home!
Avoid tourist traps
Big cities and tourist hotspots are often a lot more expensive than places off the beaten track! Try and choose less well-known destinations, if you can. Even within your destination, avoid restaurants on the main street and try something down a sidewalk. 13 !
Pack well
Firstly, pack light. 14 . It’ll only cost you more in baggage to bring more than you need. However, one of the most important tips for travelling on a budget is that it’s important to check that you take everything you need, not forgetting anything! If you forget something, it could cost a lot of money to buy that essential missing item when you’re abroad.
15
Sure, you might not be able to guarantee the weather, but your chosen destination will be a lot less busy and crowded during that period. Not only will you save a lot of money, but you’ll have it all to yourself!
A. Travel off-season
B. Consider the weather
C. Read others’ backpacking experiences
D. You won’t wear half the clothes you want to take
E. Budget travel doesn’t have to be any less fun either
F. The food will probably be better as well as cheaper
G. Some places are naturally more expensive than where you call home
Passage 4
It can be hard to stay motivated when learning a language. It’s easy to lose interest if you’re always thinking, “How often do I need to study?” or “How long is it going to take to become fluent?” 16 It is often more important than how hard you study!
● 17
Instead of thinking about far-away goals, use the language to do things that you enjoy right now! For example, if you like learning about other cultures, watch TV shows or read in the language. 18
● Have a conversation every day
To get the best results, you need to study grammar and vocabulary, but you also need to practice speaking and listening. Try to have a conversation in the language every day, even for a few minutes. Spend time discussing your favorite topics, like your favorite hobbies or places to visit. 19 Over time, conversation will become easier. As you see how much you’ve improved, you’ll want to speak even more!
● Set easy daily goals
Lastly, set daily learning goals. 20 Instead, make small goals for yourself, like “listen to an audiobook in English for 30 minutes every day.” By dividing your bigger goals into daily tasks, learning becomes easier — and more fun!
A. Enjoy the things you do.
B. Use the language to do things you enjoy.
C. Here are some ways to keep you motivated.
D. Don’t worry about mistakes; just try to have fun.
E. In fact, the way you think about studying matters a lot.
F. Big goals, like “become fluent in English”, aren’t very motivating.
G. If you enjoy cooking or sports, watch YouTube videos about food or soccer.
Passage 5
Libraries are some of the most magical places on Earth. They provide a wealth of knowledge, open doors into other worlds, and create opportunities for everyone. If you are new to using libraries, you might be surprised to learn how much they can do for you. 21
Get a library card.
To take out anything from your local library, you first need a library card. 22 The library will have rules about how many books you can borrow and for how long. When it’s time to return them, you can bring them back or sometimes keep them a little longer. Visit your local library to apply for a card and ask the librarian about the rules,
23
If you’re trying to find a book and can’t remember the exact title or the name of the author, a librarian can help. Tell them the subjects that interest you, and they can make great suggestions. 24 They can show you how to search online and find the correct information.
Enjoy scheduled events.
25 You can check the library’s website for a list of upcoming activities and sign up with your card. These may include tween(8到12岁的少年) and teen book clubs, gaming clubs, art workshops, and fun classes like chess, crafting, and coding(编程).
A. Get help from the librarians.
B. Go for more interesting books.
C. This helps you avoid getting fined.
D. Here are some tips on how to get started.
E. Librarians can also help with your school project research.
F. A lot of libraries hold various free activities for young people.
G. It gives you borrowing rights to check out books and other things.
Passage 6
In modern busy life, mental overwhelm has become common for many people. We often struggle with endless worries, messy thoughts and tiring to-do lists that leave us mentally exhausted. 26 Thankfully, here are some practical and evidence-based ways to ease our mental pressure and regain calmness in daily life.
•Write about your problems.
Writing down what makes you feel stressed is more helpful than you think. Research has shown that expressive writing can reduce troubling thoughts and improve your working memory. 27 Just let your words flow freely on the paper without self-criticism. Doing this every day can prevent messy thoughts from piling up and weighing you down.
• 28
A recent study has found that people need nearly 23 minutes to fully regain focus after an unexpected disturbance. Frequent distractions will only leave you feeling anxious and inefficient. To solve this problem, you can identify common disturbances like social media updates and email notices. Set fixed periods to deal with them so that you can save your cognitive energy for key tasks.
•Connect physically.
Rather than keeping to yourself when feeling stressed, try to stay close to people who care about you. 29 Studies have made it clear that warm physical touch can lower stress levels and improve your overall sense of well-being. Even small gentle touches can create a strong feeling of comfort and calmness.
•Learn to refuse politely.
Overwhelm often comes from taking on too many unnecessary responsibilities. You can list things you plan to say “no” to, such as after-work emails or meaningless events. 30 Only in this way can you put them into what really matters and improve your mental health.
A. Schedule interruptions.
B. Manage time reasonably.
C. This daily practice helps clear your mind effectively.
D. Saying no to extra assignments improves your work efficiency.
E. You can hug your family or hold hands with your close friends.
F. Such a state can greatly impact our mood and daily performance.
G. Learning to set proper boundaries saves your limited mental energies.
Passage 7
How to Be Friends with Your Siblings as Adults
A positive sibling relationship is a growing source of mutual support. Siblings can form an inseparable part of our social networks. However, it’s not all sunshine and sandcastles. As psychologist Tausig points out, “Siblings can grow apart as they grow up.” 31 There is a trick to strengthening your bond with your brothers or sisters.
•Start with regular, genuine conversations.
Stop treating sibling communication like a chore. Take the time to check in with them, find out how they are doing and what they are up to. Learn to listen truly — not the kind where you’re mentally planning your grocery list. Set a reminder to call or text once a week, even for 10 minutes. Don’t just ask simple questions like “How are you?” 32
•Respect who they are now.
Your “baby” sibling is now 25, all grown up with their own thoughts and opinions. “No two people grow up in the same family,” Tausig says. “Age, timing, birth order, gender, family structure and other variables influence how people experience the ‘same’ family.” 33 The solution? Approach your sibling with genuine curiosity about who they are now.
•Drop the ancient complaints.
Yes, your brother stole your favorite toy in your childhood. Your sister told others about that party you slipped out to. “It’s normal to have feelings of guilt, anger or uncertainty over the past,” Tausig says. 34 That controlling older brother? He was probably overwhelmed. That annoying little sister who let out your secret? She wanted attention. If old complaints keep coming up, try saying, “I know we had our conflicts growing up, but I’d really like to start fresh.”
• 35
“As with any relationship, both individuals have to be willing to do this,” Tausig says. You can’t force a friendship, even with family. But you can extend the olive branch and be open to response. This might mean being the one who takes the first step more often or accepting your sibling’s style of connection even if it’s different from yours.
A. Change your style of connection.
B. Be willing to reach a middle ground.
C. It’s never too late to repair a broken relationship.
D. These differences become more evident in adulthood.
E. But with intentional effort, you can build something special.
F. Start with words like “What’s been the best part of your week?”
G. Rather than focusing on old arguments, try to understand your siblings from an adult perspective.
Passage 8
How to Get Organized: The Ultimate Guide to a Clutter-Free Life
With all the inputs, information, and clutter(杂乱) that come into our lives today, just staying on top of it all creates so much stress and anxiety. Most of the time, you simply don’t know where to start when you want to learn how to be organized. 36 . By developing a few strategies and methods, you can finally get control of your clutter.
37
Your desktop should be clean and file-free. Not only does a cluttered desktop slow down your computer, but it also makes finding things painfully slow. Instead, you can create a basic folder structure inside your documents folder. For me, I have two basics folders, one called “work” and the other called “personal.” Inside of these, I have subfolders organized according to my different roles or categories. 38 .
Set a weekly time to declutter your devices
We take a picture, and we just leave it in our photo album. Over time we end up with thousands of photos in our electronic photo albums that are not worth keeping. I spend around ten minutes on the weekend deleting all the images I no longer want to keep.
If you want to stay clutter-free, this habit will reward you. 39 . Not doing so means you will end up having to spend a day or two just dealing with everything.
Do a little, often
40 . Clear out your email inbox every day, delete screenshots from your desktop and empty your bag at the end of the week, and throw away anything you no longer need. Doing a little often makes things so much easier, and you do not have that mental backlog creeping up on you.
In short, getting organized and keeping clutter at bay is achievable through practical, consistent steps. These habits not only save time and reduce stress but also help you maintain a more orderly and manageable daily routine.
A. Make it a habit to clear your desktop annually
B. Don’t use your computer’s desktop for storage

Passage 9
How to Protect Against Increased Viral Spread in Winter
Influenza, or the flu, norovirus and the common cold easily spread throughout the winter season. Here are some tips you can follow to help you avoid them.
Wash your hands.
Experts say people should wash their hands carefully and often with a cleanser such as soap. 41 Make sure you take enough time to wash your hands. It should take at least 20 seconds to complete the job.
If you do not have soap and water available, cleansers called hand sanitizers are a good substitute.
42
To avoid norovirus, you must immediately clean surfaces that have come in contact with infected food or bodily fluids. Do not forget to wash any clothing that has come in contact with vomit or other bodily waste. 43 Then, wash your hands again. With colds and flu, it is best to repeatedly clean surfaces that are touched or used often.
Keeping your hands off your face can keep viruses out.
Viruses can spread through talking, coughing and sneezing, so cover your mouth with a tissue when you sneeze or cough. Then, wash your hands. Do not touch your face. If you have viruses on your unwashed hands and touch your face, eyes or nose, they can get into your body. 44
Stay at home.
You can take a test to find what disease you have. It is important to know if you have a virus that could be treated with available medicines.
Above all, if you have symptoms of any of these sicknesses, stay at home and away from other people. 45 To treat a cold, or flu, rest and drink fluids. You can take pain medicine to lower a fever or to ease pain.
A. Use hot water and soap to wash these clothes.
B. Cleaning surfaces can remove viruses.
C. This will help stop the spread of viruses.
D. Your possibility of getting sick will increase.
E. You need to replace fluids lost because of the sickness.
F. Clean hands are important to reducing the spread of these diseases.
G. This is especially true after using the bathroom, eating or preparing food.
Passage 10
Over centuries, rivers have gradually worn down mountainsides into smooth, flat stones. For children, there is something deeply satisfying about piling up them. 46 . For those who are trying to bring simplicity to busy, messy lives, it is not hard to find a lesson in these stones. Today, several stones are chosen to help you live a lighter, healthier, more sustainable life. Arrange them as you wish.
●Reduce your consumption.
The key to simpler, greener living is to consume less. Try the one-week rule: write down what you want to buy and wait seven days. stores encourage unplanned purchases, so staying away saves money. After a week, review your list, group the items you still need, and stick to it. 47 .
●Prepare and grow your own food.
If there’s one lost art in the past decade or two, it’s cooking real food. It is easy to fall back on processed meals, but making a home-cooked meal forces you to slow down and be mindful of what you eat. 48 . If you are not confident in the kitchen, take a class or cook with someone you love.
●Reduce your personal stress.
49 . Think about all the tasks you do in a week that take longer than 30 minutes. Drop what feels like a chore or refuse repetitive tasks. You will find extra hours. Do not rush to fill them. Read a book, walk in the woods, or work in the garden. Light activity turns stress into calm.
● 50 .
Once you have reduced consumption, saved money, and reclaimed time, you are ready to serve others. How you join in is a personal decision. Teach your newfound skills to others, help people find jobs, or assist a faith or social group. As you learn to slow down and simplify, chances are that opportunities to serve will find you.
A. Learn to give back
B. Distribute your energy efficiently
C. It’s also healthier, and an enormous money saver
D. Living a greener life means letting go of old habits
E. This simple act reflects a sense of harmony and balance
F. Better planning will reveal how disorganized your spending habits can be
G. Four stones — but, of course, there are many more to add as you go along

F. You may even learn that your kid has a talent you didn’t know about before.

We can read our own narrative and ask ourselves, “How would I respond to a friend who had been through this experience?” Often, we are critical of ourselves. However, we are kind and compassionate toward others who have been through hard things. Journaling can help us extend that compassion toward ourselves.(当我们把故事写在纸上时,便能将其转化为有意义且可掌控的事物。
故选A项。

4 .
Staying up late to finish homework damages memory and makes you sleepy in class the next day. Seven to eight hours of sleep guarantees learning efficiency.
Ask for help bravely when stuck.
Don’t leave difficult problems unsolved because of shyness. Turn to teachers or classmates for discussion. 5 .
A. Form regular sleeping habits
B. Make a daily study plan ahead of time
C. This habit greatly cuts down your study efficiency
D. Reviewing repeatedly strengthens memory
E. It is a waste of time to review old lessons
F. Never put off today’s homework till tomorrow
G. Solving puzzles quickly saves much study time

A 7. F 8. B 9. G 10. E
6. 由上文“One of the best career options for digital nomads is teaching English online. (对数字流浪者来说,最好的职业选择之一是在线英语教学。)”以及下文“English remains the global language of business, education and international communication. As such, there is continued high demand for qualified English teachers. (英语仍然是商业、教育和国际交流的全球语言。因此,对合格英语教师的需求持续高涨。)”可知,本段围绕线上英语教师的市场需求展开。A选项“Growing need for online English teachers (线上英语教师的需求日益增长)”为本段小标题,总领全段内容,贴合段落主旨。
7. 由本段小标题“Work from anywhere(随处办公)”以及下文“Unlike traditional teaching jobs, which require a fixed location, online teachers can set up their virtual classrooms from any country with a stable internet connection.(不同于需要固定地点的传统教学工作,线上教师只要有稳定网络,可在任意国家搭建线上课堂)”可知,本段核心为线上教学不受地点限制。F选项“One of the greatest benefits for teachers is to work wherever they want (教师最大的优势之一就是可以随心选择办公地点)”能概括本段主旨,符合题意。

E 12. G 13. F 14. D 15. A

15. 下文“Sure, you might not be able to guarantee the weather, but your chosen destination will be a lot less busy and crowded during that period. Not only will you save a lot of money, but you'll have it all to yourself! (当然,你可能无法保证天气,但你选择的目的地在那段时间会不那么繁忙拥挤。你不仅会省很多钱,而且可以独享一切!)”说明选择某个时间段出行的好处,A项“Travel off-season (淡季出行)”作为小标题,概括了本段内容,与下文描述的目的地不拥挤、省钱等淡季特征完全吻合。

E 32. F 33. D 34. G 35. B
31. 由上文“Siblings can grow apart as they grow up (兄弟姐妹长大后可能会疏远)”以及下文“There is a trick to strengthening your bond with your brothers or sisters. (有一个加强与兄弟姐妹联系的技巧)”可知,本空要说虽然可能疏远但通过努力可以改善关系。E选项“But with intentional effort, you can build something special. (但通过有意的努力,你可以建立起特别的东西)”能承上启下,符合题意。
32. 由上文“Don’t just ask simple questions like “How are you?”(不要只问像“你怎么样?”这样简单的问题)”可知,本空应承接上文,给出具体的提问建议或替代方案,F选项“Start with words like “What’s been the best part of your week?” (从诸如“你这周最棒的部分是什么?”之类的话开始)”符合语境,给出了具体的沟通话术。
33. 由上文“Age, timing, birth order, gender, family structure and other variables influence how people experience the ‘same’ family.(年龄、时机、出生顺序、性别、家庭结构等变量,会让每个人对同一个家庭有不同的体验)”可知,本空承接上文,说明这些差异在成年后会更加明显。D选项“These differences become more evident in adulthood.(这些差异在成年后会变得更加明显)”符合语境,该选项中的“These differences”指代上文各种导致家庭体验不同的变量。
和上文“It’s normal to have feelings of guilt, anger or uncertainty over the past(对过往心存愧疚、愤怒、迷茫都是正常的)”以及下文“That controlling older brother? He was probably overwhelmed. That annoying little sister who let out your secret? She wanted attention. (那个控制欲强的哥哥?他当时可能压力太大了。那个泄露你秘密的烦人妹妹?她只是想引起注意)”可知,本空需要过渡,说明不要纠结旧矛盾,要成熟看待手足过往。G选项“Rather than focusing on old arguments, try to understand your siblings from an adult perspective.(不要纠结旧日争执,试着以成年人的视角理解你的兄弟姐妹)”贴合本段主旨,承接上文、引出下文的换位思考。
35. 由本段后文“As with any relationship, both individuals have to be willing to do this(与任何关系一样,双方都必须愿意这样做)”和“This might mean being the one who takes the first step more often or accepting your sibling’s style of connection even if it’s different from yours.(这可能意味着更多地迈出第一步,或者接受你的兄弟姐妹的联系方式,即使它与你的不同)”可知,本段主旨是互相包容、彼此迁就、折中磨合。B选项“Be willing to reach a middle ground.(愿意达成折中)”可以概括本段段落主旨,适合作为小标题。
C. However, it is, in fact, something that can be learned
D. It allows me to quickly find what I need when necessary
E. Here are a few rules that can help you on your path to a stress-free life
F. If you want to be organized, you can use this principle for almost everything
G. Doing this means you will spend thirty minutes each week cleaning up and filing
C 37. B 38. D 39. G 40. F
36. 上文“Most of the time, you simply don’t know where to start when you want to learn how to be organized.(大多数时候,当你想学习如何变得有条理时,你根本不知道从哪里开始)”说明人们在面对杂乱时的困惑。后文“By developing a few strategies and methods, you can finally get control of your clutter.(通过制定一些策略和方法,你最终可以控制你的杂乱)”说明这是可以学会的。
37. 下文“Your desktop should be clean and file-free. Not only does a cluttered desktop slow down your computer, but it also makes finding things painfully slow.(你的桌面应该干净,没有文件。杂乱的桌面不仅会降低你的电脑速度,还会让找东西变得非常慢)”说明本段讲的是不要用桌面存储文件。空处为本段段首主旨句,所以B项“不要把电脑桌面当作存储工具。”是对下文的概括。
38. 上文“Inside of these, I have subfolders organized according to my different roles or categories.(在这些文件夹里,我又根据不同的角色或类别建立了子文件夹)”说明文件夹的分类方法。
39. 上文“If you want to stay clutter-free, this habit will reward you.(如果你想保持整洁,这个习惯会给你回报)”说明每周清理设备的好处。 下文“Not doing so means you will end up having to spend a day or two just dealing with everything.(不这样做意味着你最终将不得不花一两天时间来处理所有事情)”用“Not doing so”指代空处内容,说明如果不这样做就要花一两天处理,所以G项“这样做意味着你每周花三十分钟来清理和归档。”
40. 下文“Clear out your email inbox every day, delete screenshots from your desktop and empty your bag at the end of the week, and throw away anything you no longer need.(每天清空你的电子邮件收件箱,删除桌面上的截图,在周末清空你的包,扔掉任何你不再需要的东西)”列举了各种场景下的小习惯。

Do not forget to wash any clothing that has come in contact with vomit or other bodily waste. 43 Then, wash your hands again. With colds and flu, it is best to repeatedly clean surfaces that are touched or used often.

G. Four stones — but, of course, there are many more to add as you go along

46. 根据上文“Over centuries, rivers have gradually worn down mountainsides into smooth, flat stones. For children, there is something deeply satisfying about piling up them.(数百年来,河流不断地侵蚀着山体,使其逐渐变成光滑平整的石块。对于孩子们来说,把这些石头堆叠起来是一件非常令人满足的事情)”可知,选项承接上文说明这个举动体现的意义。E选项“这一简单举动体现出一种和谐均衡的理念。”符合语境。
47. 根据上文“The key to simpler, greener living is to consume less. Try the one-week rule: write down what you want to buy and wait seven days. stores encourage unplanned purchases, so staying away saves money. After a week, review your list, group the items you still need, and stick to it.(实现更简单、更环保的生活方式的关键在于减少消费。试试“一周规则”:列出你想要购买的东西,然后等待七天。商店往往鼓励无计划的购买行为,所以避开这些商店能节省开支。一周后,回顾你的清单,将你仍需要的物品归类,并坚持执行这个清单)”可知,本段话题是减少消费,介绍了“写购物清单等一周再筛选需要的商品”的方法,F选项“更好的规划会暴露你的消费习惯有多混乱”正好承接这个方法的作用,符合消费话题。
48. 根据上文“If there’s one lost art in the past decade or two, it’s cooking real food. It is easy to fall back on processed meals, but making a home-cooked meal forces you to slow down and be mindful of what you eat.(在过去十年左右的时间里,有一种技艺已经失传了,那就是烹饪真正的食物。人们往往会习惯性地选择加工食品,但自己动手做一顿家常饭菜却能促使你放慢节奏,认真思考自己所吃的食物)”以及本段话题是自己做饭,前文提到自己做饭能让人慢下来关注饮食,C选项“它(自己做饭)也更健康,还能省很多钱”顺承补充自己做饭的好处,衔接后文“不会做饭可以学”的内容,符合逻辑。
49. 根据后文“Think about all the tasks you do in a week that take longer than 30 minutes. Drop what feels like a chore or refuse repetitive tasks. You will find extra hours. Do not rush to fill them. Read a book, walk in the woods, or work in the garden.
Once you have reduced consumption, saved money, and reclaimed time, you are ready to serve others. How you join in is a personal decision.
