B At Cheverton Lodge Care Home, festive jingling breaks out from 17-year-old Ted Mayer's speaker and he launches into his Christmas set. A seasoned volunteer, he has been singing since he was six. Ted's charm has won over many in the audience, particularly the older ladies. But it's not for everyone. Jeanette Hodes, 92, offers an impatient “come on, get on with it,” and leans back in her chair. On a nearby trolley a cat's cradle (翻花绳) has caught her eye. The string is quickly brought over to her. Soon enough she is transported to the playground of her youth, offering cheerfully-recalled anecdotes from when she learnt double dutch with friends as her mother could not afford to buy her a Sindy doll. Looking on fondly is Jill Fraser, 68, the founder of Kissing it Better (KiB), a charity working to reduce isolation in the elderly through intergenerational friendships. Fraser is making her way around the room with a trolley of assorted old treasures. A faded Beatrix Potter hardback, Jackie magazine and biography of Lord Mountbatten are piled on top of one another. Fraser's team of volunteers prepared the items as recollection is thought to be a powerful tool for striking up much-needed conversation in the elderly. Anna Giannotti, 63, an art psychotherapist who is paid for a few hours a week by KiB, says, “Sometimes the elderly are hesitant to get involved, but often when they do get involved, they just become their complete selves. I feel very humbled. It could be any of us in the future.” The youngest volunteer of the day, Mariella Hafalla, 16, finds the frankness of the older generation refreshing. “I really enjoyed the session where we talked about what the residents did when they were younger,” she says. “I found out how people used to go outside all of the time but now we are all online so it has helped me realize the importance of going outside.” 24. What brings Jeanette Hodes back to her youth? A. Buying a Sindy doll. B. Learning double dutch. C. Listening to Ted's songs. D. Playing with a cat's cradle. 25. Why does Fraser go around the room with the trolley? A. To offer topics that may encourage interaction. B. To check whether the elderly can recall the past. C. To collect personal belongings from the residents. D. To show volunteers how to interact with old people. 26. What is Anna Giannotti's attitude towards the elderly? A. Curious. B. Grateful. C. Empathetic. D. Protective. 27. Which phrase most closely reflects KiB's approach? A. Activity over talk. B. Memory as a bridge. C. Service with a smile. D. Care through exercise. C The sunk cost fallacy (谬误) is a perceptive misconception that makes you feel as if you should continue pouring money, time, or effort into a situation since you’ve already “sunk” so much into it already. For example, have you ever stuck with something because you’ve already put in so much effort? Like reading a terrible book because you’re already halfway through, so you might as well find out what happens. When people become a prey to the sunk cost fallacy, “the effect of loss feels worse than the prospect of gain, so we keep making decisions based on past costs instead of future costs and benefits,” explains Yalda Safai, MD, MPH, a psychiatrist in New York City. It can be really challenging to walk away from a situation where you’ve already spent any amount of time, money, or energy. What often happens is that you try to rationalize the situation by saying that since the spent cost can’t be recovered, you might as well stay the course or distribute additional resources to try to make things better. What ends up happening is that you may stay in an unrewarding stuck situation and lose additional valuable resources, like emotional energy, your time, or money. It’s important to reconsider these sunk costs as just that: money already spent that cannot be recovered. For clear and rational decision-making, the amount you already spent must be viewed as irrelevant to what comes next. However, there’s an unclear line between knowing when to stay the course and when to walk away. For example, you might go through a hard time in a relationship, but this isn’t necessarily grounds for immediately leaving. Or you might try a hobby that you’re not 100% passionate about, but could end up loving it once you get past that awkward period —“I’m not very good at this”. In these moments, it’s important to prioritize rational thought. If past results haven’t paid off, then it’s like it won’t in the future either. 28. What is the key feature of the sunk cost fallacy? A. Insisting on investing more resources. B. Focusing on future possible rewards. C. Promoting use of many resources. D. Depending on current enthusiasm. 29. What does the underlined word “prey” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Witness. B. Leader. C. Victim. D. Contributor. 30. What might happen if people fall into the sunk cost fallacy? A. They would receive actual gains. B. They would lose more than gain. C. They would be less ambitious. D. They would be more annoyed. 31. How can people make reasonable choices? A. By making plans based on facts. B. By ignoring unrecoverable costs. C. By listening to various opinions. D. By paying attention to processes. D Have you ever witnessed the astonishing beauty of auroras? They are a gift from the heavens resulting from the interaction between the atmosphere and cosmic (宇宙的) radiation. However, in South Korea, a flight attendant, 53, died from cancer due to long exposure to intense cosmic radiation. According to South Korean authorities, the flight attendant flew about 1,022 annual hours throughout his career, with half of his flights spent crossing the regions in and around the North Pole, where cosmic radiation reaches extraordinarily high levels. Cosmic radiation, which comes from the sun and other stars in the galaxy, is constantly hitting Earth.Cosmic radiation can be divided into two types: solar radiation and galactic cosmic radiation. Solar radiation comprises charged particles (粒子) emitted by the sun, known as the solar wind, while galactic cosmic radiation comes from the remaining parts of supernovas. Despite the continuous and powerful nature of cosmic radiation, we are generally protected from their worst effects. Earth's magnetic field (磁场) and atmosphere provide protection from this radiation, with the magnetic field being strongest in tropical areas and weakest at the poles. Consequently, individuals living in higher altitudes, like Heilongjiang province, experience slightly more cosmic radiation than those in lower latitudes, such as Hainan province. Moreover, at higher altitudes, such as when passengers are flying on an airplane, the thinner atmosphere results in more intense exposure to cosmic radiation. For astronauts and flight attendants on polar routes, lacking the protection offered by Earth's magnetic field and atmosphere exposes them to potential health risks. According to NASA, astronauts who spend six months in space encounter a radiation exposure roughly equal to undergoing 1,000 chest X-rays. However, what makes cosmic radiation dangerous also holds treatment potential. Joseph, a particle physicist and his members found the high speed and energy of cosmic radiation have provided insights into treating tumors. Scientists can now artificially produce charged particles similar to cosmic radiation. Compared to conventional radiotherapy, charged particles can target tumors more effectively with less harm to the surrounding healthy tissues, according to Joseph. 32. What can we know about cosmic radiation from paragraph 2? A. It may lead to a higher risk of cancer. B. It is comprised of charged particles alone. C. It generates harmful substances in the atmosphere. D. It mainly results from the remaining parts of supernovas 33. Who would be exposed to the most cosmic radiation? A.Workers exploring at the poles. B.Passengers flying on an airplane. C.Residents living in Hainan province. D. Researchers studying in the tropical areas. 34. Which statement does Joseph probably agree with? A. Cosmic radiation can confirm the tumor types. B. Cancer patients can be cured due to cosmic radiation. C. Cosmic radiotherapy does no harm to patients' tissues. D. Cosmic radiation is promising in the medical application. 35. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. The Formation of Cosmic Radiation B. The Breathtaking Beauty of Auroras C. Cosmic Radiation:a Double-edged Sword D. Engaging students in Food Technology can help shape practical problem-solving skills, enabling them to make more informed choices about their diets. But Food Technology must evolve to meet the demands of the modern age. ___37___ Instead, a modern food tech program must be reflective of current culinary (烹饪的) innovations. We need a curriculum that emphasises fresh, seasonal ingredients, and international cuisines. In an era when students can show off their recipes via social media, we can also seize the opportunity to introduce technology into our food tech classes. Beyond being tools for accessing information, digital platforms have the potential to enhance our culinary instruction techniques. We can task students with developing their own meal-planning apps. ___38___ In my reimagined Food Technology classes, inclusivity would play a further crucial role. We now live in a multicultural society, where food practices vary widely. By celebrating diverse culinary traditions, we can teach students about nutrition from a range of cultural perspectives. ___39___ It’s important that students learn to respect and celebrate the differences that food represents. Such an approach would not only help to build their understanding and empathy, but also to enrich and expand their culinary horizons and fuel their interest in trying new foods. ___40___ Who knows — we might well end up with classrooms full of future chefs, health advocates and food scientists, all eager to propose their solutions to the world’s culinary challenges. A. Cooking can bridge differences. B. Each dish tells a unique cultural story. C. Or we can engage them in interactive cooking lessons. D. Gone, after all, are the days of simply boiling cabbage. E. Yet there is a growing awareness of diet-related health issues. F. To achieve that, however, we’ll need more passionate educators. G. Diverse local recipes are seldom mentioned in modern Food Technology. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 I have always felt a deep pull to travel solo, to let my ___41___ spirit lead the way. Students from over twenty countries gathered in the dining hall for breakfast. The atmosphere was lively, filled with greetings in different languages that blended into a cheerful symphony of cultural diversity. Some laughed easily, exchanging jokes with their new friends, while others eagerly compared notes on their travel experiences. Yet I sat alone at a corner table, feeling overwhelmed by the unfamiliar environment and the fast rhythm of English conversations around me. As I nervously picked at my scrambled eggs, a girl with curly blonde hair approached my table. "Mind if I sit here?" she asked with a warm smile. I nodded, grateful for the company. "I’m Emma, from Sweden," she introduced herself, extending her hand. "Li Ming, from China," I replied, shaking her hand tentatively. Her friendliness softened my nervousness. "Is this your first time abroad?" Emma asked, noticing my unease. I admitted it was, and that I was worried about my English skills. "Don’t worry," she said reassuringly, "everyone here is learning from each other. That’s the beauty of this camp." Her words comforted me, but I still felt the weight of being far from home. During the morning activity session, Emma and I ended up in the same group with students from Brazil, Japan, and France. The challenge required us to solve riddles in English and find hidden clues. I struggled to understand some of the wordplay, often asking for explanations. Though my teammates were patient and encouraging, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was slowing them down. Still, the moment we were going to solve the last riddle together, I realized I was beginning to belong. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 As we reached the last riddle, a clue about an ancient Chinese tale suddenly popped up. _____ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Solving the riddle injected more confidence into me for the evening cultural presentation. ___ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】: 1-5:ABCAC;6-10:BACBA;11-15:BCABC;16-20:ABCAB 21-23:BDC 24-27:DACB 28-31:ACBB 32-35:AADC 36-40:EDCBF 41-45:ABCBB;46-50:ABDCC;51-55:ADACD 56. to make;57. held;58. noticeable;59. a;60. pitted;61. where;62. Knowing you are designing posters on reducing carbon footprints and needing section suggestions, I'd like to share my ideas. I propose adding a Transport section to the poster. It will show how daily transport choices, including cars, buses, trains and flights, greatly influence our personal carbon footprint. As transportation is a major source of global greenhouse gas emissions, this section covers a key field where individual efforts matter. It can visually compare emissions from different transport means and recommend eco-friendly options. I would be more than happy if my proposal is of some value to you. Yours sincerely, Li Hua 67.【示例】: As we reached the last riddle, a clue about an ancient Chinese tale suddenly popped up. It referred to the legend of the Monkey King from "Journey to the West," something I knew by heart from childhood stories. Hesitantly, I explained the tale’s themes of adventure and transformation, linking it to the puzzle’s hints about “a mischievous traveler with a magical staff.” My teammates listened attentively, and Emma’s eyes widened in admiration. “That’s it!” Carlos from Brazil shouted, as we connected the dots to reveal the hidden treasure — a small box of international treats. The group’s applause washed over me, turning my initial anxiety into a sense of triumph. For the first time, I felt my cultural background was an asset, not a barrier, fostering deeper connections as we shared laughs over our victory. Solving the riddle injected more confidence into me for the evening cultural presentation. I volunteered to showcase a traditional Chinese fan dance, incorporating elements from my heritage that I’d practiced back home. With Emma and the others cheering me on, I moved gracefully under the camp lights, explaining the symbolism of harmony and elegance. The audience, including campers from diverse nations, responded with enthusiasm, asking questions that sparked lively discussions on global traditions. As the night wound down with a group photo and promises to stay in touch, I realized the camp had bridged my isolation into lasting friendships. When I headed back to my cabin, the weight of homesickness lifted, replaced by gratitude for this transformative experience that celebrated unity in diversity. 2 / 2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
