The first day of high school felt like a big adventure, but also a bit terrible. I didn’t know how important studying would be, and I didn’t have any plans for what I wanted to do later in life.
My friend, Alex saw that I wasn’t really into school. One day, after a boring science class, he talked to me. “You can do better,” he said seriously. “You just need to put in some effort.” His words made me think.
I started to focus more in class, trying to really understand what the teachers were saying. Alex and I would study together, and he would help me with the difficult parts. Gradually, things that I didn’t understand before started to become clear.
One day, while we were working on a science problem, I had a moment of understanding. I realized that learning is not just about getting good marks; it’s about exploring new ideas and enjoying the challenge of solving problems. It felt great to make things out.
As time went by, my grades got better, and so did my attitude towards school. I started to think about what I wanted to do when I grew up and made plans for college. I understood that high school was a chance to get ready for my dreams.
Now, I’m thankful for that moment when I realized how important learning is and for Alex’s help. It showed me that school is a place to discover what you love and to work towards your goals. I look forward to each day, knowing that every bit of learning brings me closer to becoming the person I want to be.

C. Visiting an ideal college. D. Solving a science problem.

ChatGPT, a smart Al chat-bot tool, has swept the education world in the past months. According to a US survey of more than 1 ,000 students, over 89 percent of them have used ChatGPT to help with a homework task.
Developed by US company OpenAl, ChatGPT is a powerful tool. You can ask it to write stories and emails, create a food menu, translate languages, and answer all kinds of questions.
Some schools in the US, Australia and France have banned (禁止) the use of ChatGPT. In the US, for example, New York City public schools banned students and teachers from using ChatGPT on the district's networks and devices, CNN reported.
The move comes out of worries that the tool could make it easier for students to cheat on study. Some also worry that ChatGPT could be used to spread wrong information.
“It does not build critical-thinking(批判性思维) and problem-solving skills, which are necessary for academic (学术的) and lifelong success,” said Jenna Lyle, the deputy press secretary of the New York City Department of Education.
Apart from bans, teachers are making changes to their classes to stop the use of ChatGPT. Some college teachers in the US try to include more speaking exams and handwritten papers instead of typed ones, The New York Times reported.
However, not all educators say “no” to ChatGPT. Some Canadian universities are drafting policies on its use, for both students and teachers. They have no plans to wholly ban the tool so far.
Bhaskar Vira, headmaster for education at the University of Cambridge in the UK, said that bans on Al software like ChatGPT are not wise. “We have to know that AI is a tool people will use,” he told Varsity, the school newspaper of the university. What we need to do is “adapt our learning, teaching and examinations". That way, we can “have honesty while recognizing the use of the tool”.
28.Some schools in the US banned the use of ChatGPT because____________.
A. it probably takes the place of teachers
B. students may use it to cheat on homework
C. it rarely provides the correct information
D. it takes up most of the district's networks
29.Jenna Lyle thinks that________________.
A. ChatGPT is necessary for academic and lifelong success
B. using ChatGPT is not good for developing students’ minds
C. ChatGPT is so far the smartest AI chat-bot tool
D. ChatGPT might offer the wrong information
30.Which opinion is NOT mentioned in the story?
A. Using ChatGPT makes students lazy in thinking.
B. The complete ban on using ChatGPT is not wise.
C. ChatGPT will fully change present education.
D. ChatGPT may be used for both teachers and students.
31.The passage is probably from “____________”.
A. Sports and Fitness B. Health and Diet
C. Cultural Exchange D. Science and Education
D
In the west of the Greek capital Athens, the fish market of Keratsini is busy early in the morning, with trucks waiting nearby to be loaded with fishes. But on his fishing boat, Arapakis sorts out something different---bottles, boots, plastic pipes and fishing nets, all dragged from the bed of the Aegean Sea.
“We are swimming in plastic,”said Arapakis, whose family has fished for five generations. “By 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the sea,” he said, as recent reports noted.
That morning’s plastic catch weighed “about 100 kilograms,” said the founder of Enaleia, a nonprofit organization that encourages fishermen to collect marine (海洋的)waste caught in nets. Since its establishment in 2018, it has worked with more than 1,200 fishermen in Greece to raise concern over the degradation of the marine environment.
Active in 42 ports throughout Greece, Enaleia provides fishermen with large bags for marine waste that they can put in garbage cans once back at port. For every kilogram of plastic they deliver, they receive a small amount of money, which is enough for a drink. Since October, fishing crews have dragged out 20 metric tons of plastic and old fishing equipment each month. Nearly 600 tons have been collected over the last five years. The collected plastic is transported to a recycling plant in the industrial area of Megara near Keratsini, to make new products such as socks, swimwear or furniture.
Arapakis said he went about the cleanup project after a trip to Greece’s Cyclades islands , where he saw fishermen throwing the waste gathered by their nets back into the sea .
Arapakis is convinced there has been a “mentality change” among Greece’s fishermen. “Previously we caught large quantities of plastic, but we only kept the fish. All waste was thrown into the sea.” said Mokharam, team leader on the Arapakis family’s boat.“The project brings practical benefits for fishing boats. In the past, the anchor was often caught by waste, especially nets, and the engine would go out. But now things have changed,” he added.
32.What can we learn about Arapakis from the first 2 paragraphs?
A. He was a successful fish trader. B. He collected waste from the sea.
C. He liked swimming in the sea. D. He had a large family to support.
33.What does the underlined word “degradation” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Impact. B. Worsening. C. Improvement. D. Research.
34.What will most probably happen to the collected waste in the end?
A. It will be sold at a high price. B. It will be exchanged for food.
C. It will be thrown back into the sea. D. It will be well dealt with for reuse.
35.What can we infer from Mokharam’s words?
A. Fishing is a tough job for fishermen.
B. The sea in Greece is seriously polluted.
C. He thinks highly of the cleanup project.
D. He still feels ashamed for fishermen’s behavior .

Don't forget the most important thing is the book! Think about the books your club will enjoy. Stories? History books? 40 You can take turns to recommend books. Let everyone vote to decide which book to read. Anyway, make sure to keep it interesting.

W: Well. It’s really not so hard. There are a few well-known methods I use to help me remember facts.
M: Like what?
W: Well, if I have a list of things to remember, I often make up a funny sentence with the words on the list.
M: That sounds interesting.
W: ⑰I have a great book. It teaches you all kinds of different ways to remember things. You can borrow it if you like.
M: I’d be really thankful.

M: ⑱Welcome to the museum tour. Please allow me to express a warm welcome and I’m honored to show you around. ⑲First I will go over the map with you in the hall in case you get lost. Do not worry if you get lost. You can ask one of our staff members for directions. After we get out of the hall, our first stop will be the Egyptian section. This one has our oldest art in it. ⑳Next, I will take you to the Asian art and ancient objects on the left. This is my favorite section, because each piece has a wonderful story. The tour’s last part will be the European section. We have borrowed some of those items from the National Museum! The first thing you should notice is the writing below each piece. I will speak about most things, but you can also check the information there. No photo is to be taken here, so please turn off your cameras. Most importantly, please do not touch any of the art! The oil on your hands will damage these ancient objects!
