46.Dear Johnson,
I learned that you lost an important game last week, and you have been very unhappy even since, I am writing to you specifically.
You’re a good chess player. It’s normal to lose occasionally. Therefore, you should not feel frustrated and lose confidence, but should sum up the reasons for the failure, continue to train hard, and get ready for the next victory over your opponent. You should believe in yourself.
I sincerely hope that you can keep a good mood.
Yours,
Li Hua
47.例文
The two weeks passed in a strange new rhythm. Eli watched his father move through the quiet room with a determination he’d never seen. Thomas would pause, as if searching for words, before asking, “Need anything?” It was always a physical need, like water, food or the remote control. Yet in the clumsy gestures of care, Eli realized his father’s profound love for him. The silence was no longer empty; it was filled with gestures. Eli noticed Thomas’s rough hands handling him gently and his frowning over medical instructions as intently as blueprints.
After being released from hospital, Eli had a deep conversation with his father. It didn’t happen in the noisy car ride home, but later, in the evening’s soft light, sitting in their backyard with damp rain air lingering. Thomas spoke first. “I tried building a strong and perfect world so you’d never feel my cracks after your mom left,” he said bitterly. Eli listened, replying not in pain, but with understanding: “I don’t need a perfect world, Dad — I just need to be in yours.” The high wall in Eli’s heart finally broke down. Through this incident, both father and son realized that true love lies in open and honest communication and long-term companionship.

When you are little, the whole world feels like a big playground. I was living in Conyers, Georgia the summer it all happened. I was a second grader, but my best friend Stephanie was only in the first grade. Both of our parents were at work and most of the time they let us go our own way.
It was a hot afternoon and we decided to have an adventure in Stephanie’s basement. As I opened the basement door, before us lay the biggest room, full of amazing things like guns, dolls, and old clothes. I ran downstairs, and spotted a red steel can. It was paint. I looked beyond it and there lay even more paint in bright colors like purple, orange, blue and green.
“Stephanie, I just found us a project for the day. Get some paintbrushes. We are fixing to paint.” She screamed with excitement as I told her of my secret plans and immediately we got to work. We gathered all the brushes we could find and moved all of our materials to my yard. There on the road in front of my house, we painted big stripes (条纹) of colors across the pavement. Strip e by stripe, our colors turned into a beautiful rainbow. It was fantastic!
The sun was starting to sink. I saw a car in the distance and jumped up as I recognized the car. It was my mother. I couldn’t wait to show her my masterpiece. The car pulled slowly into the driveway and from the look on my mother’s face, I could tell that I was in deep trouble.
My mother shut the car door and walked towards me. Her eyes glaring, she shouted, “What in the world were you thinking? I understood when you made castles out of leaves, and climbed the neighbors’ trees, but this! Come inside right now!” I stood there glaring back at her for a minute, angry because she had insulted (侮辱) my art.
“Now go clean it up!” Mother and I began cleaning the road. Tears ran down my cheeks as I saw my beautiful rainbow turn into black cement.
Though years have now passed, I still wonder where my rainbow has gone. I wonder if, maybe when I get older, I can find my rainbow and never have to brush it away. I guess we all need some sort of rainbow to brighten our lives from time to time and to keep our hopes and dreams colorful.

A Polish digital artist who uses classical painting styles to create dreamy fantasy landscapes, Greg Rutkowski has made illustrations for games such as Dungeon& Dragons and Magic: The Gathering. And he’s become a sudden hit in the new world of text-to-image AI generation.
His distinctive style is now one of the most commonly used prompts in the new open-source AI art generator Stable Diffusion. The tool, along with other popular image-generation AI models, allows anyone to create impressive images based on text prompts. For example, type in “Wizard with sword and a glowing orb of magic fire fights a fierce dragon Greg Rutkowski,” and the system will produce something that looks not a million miles away from works in Rutkowski’s style.
But these open-source programs are built by scraping images from the internet, often without permission and proper attribution to artists. As a result, they are raising tricky questions about ethics and copyright. And artists like Rutkowski have had enough.
According to the website Lexica, which tracks over 10 million Stable Diffusion images and prompts, Rutkowski’s name has been used as a prompt around 93,000 times. Rutkowski was initially surprised but thought it might be a good way to reach new audiences. Then he tried searching for his name to see if a piece he had worked on had been published. The online search brought back work that had his name attached to it but wasn’t his.
“It’s been just a month. What about in a year? I probably won’t be able to find my work out there because the internet will be flooded with AI art, ” Rutkowski said. “That’s concerning.”
Other artists besides Rutkowski have been surprised by the apparent popularity of their work in text-to-image generators — and some are now fighting back.
Karla Ortiz, an illustrator based in San Francisco who found her work in Stable Diffusion’s data set, has been raising awareness about the issues around AI art and copyright. Artists say they risk losing income as people start using AI-generated images based on copyrights material for commercial purposes. But it’s also a lot more personal, Ortiz says, arguing that because art is so closely linked to a person, it could raise data protection and privacy problems.
“There is a coalition growing within artist industries to figure out how to tackle or mitigate this,” says Ortiz. The group is in its early days of mobilization, which could involve pushing for new policies or regulation. One suggestion is that AI models could be trained on images in the public domain, and AI companies could forge partnerships with museums and artists. Ortiz says.
8.What can be learned about Rutkowski from the first two paragraphs?
A.He is enthusiastic about using AI models.
B.He is popular with the users of an AI art generator.
C.He attracts admiration from other illustrators.
D.He specializes in classical painting digitalization.
9.The problem with open-source AI art generators is that they
A.lack flexibility in responding to prompts.
B.produce artworks in unpredictable styles.
C.make unauthorized use of online images.
D.collect user information without consent.
10.How does Rutkowski feel about the use of his name in AI image generation at first?
A.Confused but motivated.
B.Surprised but hopeful.
C.Interested but detached.
D.Thrilled but concerned.
11.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.When Art Meets AI: Is Digital Art Real Art?
B.When AI Art Goes Viral: How Do Artists Benefit?
C.When AI Aids Creation: unauthorized Scraping of Data
D.When AI Initiates Art: Automated Creative Processes

It is common to say something is as light as a feather (羽毛) to mean something doesn't weigh much. A group of researchers, however, has found that while all feathers are pretty light, some of them are far heavier than others, and it may be because of their color.
Bird feathers come in all different colors ranging from black to white, and everything in between. The researchers wanted to know if there was a difference in how much a feather of one color weighed compared to that of another color. They studied 109 specimens (标本) of birds across 19 different species.
The team investigated the melanin (黑色素) in feathers. Melanin has a fairly high molecular (分子的) mass, which means it becomes a not-insignificant part of the overall weight of the feather itself. There are two forms of melanin, one found in light brown and orange feathers and the other in black, grey and darker brown feathers.
Once the researchers got the feathers they needed, they collected and purified the melanin in the feathers, then weighed the melanin and compared it with the weight of the feathers before the melanin was removed. They found the melanin accounted for 25% of the total dry mass of the feathers on average. For a species known for having very dark feathers, that went up to over 60% of the weight.
People may think 25% of the weight of feathers is little. That being said, when it comes to flying, every bit counts. It's pointed out that migratory birds tend to have lighter colored feathers, which could help them fly over greater distances.
More studies are needed to determine how this would affect a given species of bird, but it appears that the extra weight of darker feathers is at least one factor when it comes to how evolution progressed in different species of birds.
12.Why did the researchers conduct the study?
A.To compare birds' different migratory patterns.
B.To collect specimens of endangered bird species.
C.To demonstrate the unknown functions of bird feathers.
D.To figure out the link between feather color and feather weight.
13.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A.The research procedure. B.The theoretical basis.
C.The function of melanin. D.The formation of melanin.
14.What is the finding of the research?
A.Color is the decisive factor of feather weight.
B.Melanin content may influence the weight of feathers.
C.Feathers account for a quarter of a bird's weight on average.
D.The darker the feather is, the greater distances the bird flies.
15.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.The Significance in Distinguishing Feathers
B.The Evolution of Bird Feathers in Different Species
C.The Association between feather Color and Its Weight
D.The Effect of feather Color on Bird migration Distance

Want More Self-Control? The Secret Isn’t Willpower.
People tend to respect and even idolize strong-willed people — friends who hit up the gym five times a week or colleagues who manage to stay focused in nearly every situation. But willpower shouldn’t be confused with self-control. 16 , yet it may not be the most effective method.
Improving willpower boils down to just trying harder while self-control relies on strategic methods. 17 . Here are some options:
Create routines. Research reveals that people who are good at self-control tend to structure their lives to avoid having to make draining decisions in the moment. 18
Monitor your progress. Enhancing self-control can be both easy and fast. 19 such as using a journal, a calendar, or an audio recording. This process creates immediate feedback and a sense of accomplishment, reinforcing your commitment.
Manage your environment. Energy vampires, the type of people who leave you feeling drained, will deplete your ability to exert self-control. Likewise, people who support you and lift you up will give you a greater capacity for self-control.
20 . “Shifting focus from individual desires to collective needs fosters motivation for self-control,” said Scott Haas, a clinical psychologist in Boston. This shift in focus reduces reliance on finite mental resources.
Ultimately, self-control is less about fighting urges and more about skillfully managing your environment and perspective, leading to lasting calm.
A.Build supportive networks.
B.Connect to a larger purpose.
C.Somehow, these routines automate positive responses.
D.The key is to keep notes on your actions toward a goal.
E.Multiple techniques maximize the effectiveness of self-control.
F.Willpower may help manage your emotions or fight strong desires.
G.For instance, scheduling fixed activities like running builds consistency.

The World Bank on Thursday released its latest China Economic Update in Beijing, raising its 2026 economic growth forecast for the world’s second-largest economy by 0.4 percentage points.
The World Bank said that accommodating fiscal (财政的) and monetary policies supported domestic 36 (consume) and investment. Simultaneously, demand from developing countries sustained exports.
“China’s growth in the coming years will depend more on domestic demand,” said Mara Warwick, World Bank division director for China, Mongolia and Korea. 47.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Eli’s notebook slipped from his hands as his father’s car rushed out of the driveway — another early morning, another quiet goodbye. Thomas Cole rarely spoke: no “good morning”, no “how was school”, just punishing workdays at his construction company, building skyscrapers while Eli grew up feeling invisible. Their house was neat but cold: a spotless kitchen, a home office piled with blueprints, and no photos of father and son on the walls. Every time Eli watched his friends hug their dads and laugh with them, his heart ached a little more, and the thought that his own father didn’t care about him sank even deeper.
“It seems as if I were living with a stranger,” Eli once complained to his best friend, his eyes wet. Thomas lost his wife when Eli was five, and since then, work had become his escape. He’d get up and leave home at 5 a.m., return after 9 p. m., too tired to chat, believing providing for Eli — paying his school fees, buying him whatever he needed — was enough. But Eli was hungry for words, warmth, proof that he mattered. “He never asks about my soccer games, and never remembers my birthday,” he’d complain, ignoring how Thomas always left a warm breakfast on the counter, and how his clothes were always folded neatly.
One rainy evening, Eli rode his bike home as usual. Unexpectedly, he lost his balance on the wet road and fell down. The next thing he knew, he was being rushed to the hospital. His father, Thomas, had been called from work and hurried over to his side. When Eli woke in the hospital, he saw his father — disheveled, eyes bloodshot, his work boots still caked in mud. He didn’t say much, but just adjusted Eli’s pillow, handed him a glass of water, and sat silently by the bed. It turned out that Thomas took the next two weeks off work — something no one at his company had ever seen. He cooked Eli’s favorite food, helped him shower and change with gentle, awkward movements, and read to him at night — softly yet hesitantly, as if he was afraid to break the silence.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The two weeks passed in a strange new rhythm.
