Artificial intelligence (AI) can be really helpful in our daily life. People use smart helpers like Xiaodu and Siri at home. AI is even being used by doctors to help check for diseases like cancer. However, some people are not happy about one new AI invention: an actor called Tilly. Although Tilly hasn’t been in any big movies or TV shows yet, the company that created her says she could be a star. Are AI actors a good idea?
AI is amazing technology, and it’s good to see people trying new things with it. Using AI actors could save companies lots of money as they wouldn’t have to pay expensive Hollywood stars. As a result, companies could make more films and TV shows. Also, AI actors can do things that real people can’t do without the risk of getting hurt, giving filmmakers more chances to create their movies without any limits(限制). For example, an AI actor could be made to look exactly like a certain character, which would be perfect for historical shows about real people.
However, there are also concerns because AI actors may not be accepted by everyone. Real actors have talent and work hard to learn how to act, but they could lose their jobs because of these computer programs. According to the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA, AI actors are trained using real actors’ work, but they do this without asking or paying the real actors. Besides, AI actors often look a little strange. When we know that AI actors are not real, we feel a bit weird while watching them, and fail to get real feelings. Wouldn’t that make watching a movie or show less enjoyable?
Could an AI actor become the next big star? The answer will depend on what people around the world finally prefer to see.
16.What can we learn about Tilly?
A.She may become a star in the future.
B.She is widely accepted by many people.
C.She is a real actor who is good at acting.
D.She has already been in some big movies.
17.What does the underlined word “concerns” probably mean in paragraph 3?
A.worries B.opinions C.discoveries D.advantages
18.Why does the writer write the passage?
A.To explain how to create AI actors. B.To show different ideas of AI actors.
C.To share a story about a famous AI actor. D.To tell readers that AI actors are amazing.

Do people sleep better when it’s colder? It’s hard to say. But compared with a common room temperature, most people sleep better when it’s cooler. This is why many people sleep better during winter.
The temperature plays a part in your circadian rhythm (昼夜节律). Everyone has a circadian rhythm. It’s how our body records what time it is and when to start preparing itself for sleep.
During the day, our body temperature naturally rises and drops. It is usually at its highest in the early afternoon and lowest around 5 a.m. When we fall asleep, our body temperature naturally cools off.
As you get closer to bedtime, the lights in your bedroom go down. Your body temperature also goes down to prepare you for sleep. When you’re asleep, your body temperature drops further. It keeps low until it slowly rises and you wake up.
Helping your body get to that lower temperature faster can bring deeper sleep. So, is there a great temperature for sleep? It’s a difficult question, because everybody is different. However, most studies find that the best temperature is between 16—19℃.
19.What can we learn about the circadian rhythm in Paragraph 2?
A.It tells our body about danger. B.It tells our body about time.
C.It tells our body about health problems. D.It tells our body about weather changes.
20.How does the body temperature usually change during the day?
A.It drops slowly. B.It keeps the same.
C.It drops first and rises. D.It rises first and drops.
21.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to (指的是)?
A.The bedtime. B.The light.
C.The body temperature. D.The circadian rhythm.
22.What’s the purpose (目的) of the text?
A.To tell people how to sleep well.
B.To show some facts about temperature.
C.To help people find the best temperature for sleep.
D.To tell people the relationship between sleep and temperature.

Times change! The day I heard that the Bright Bookstore was closing, I was sad. The bookstore had been in the neighborhood for 50 years, and it was a great place where people could connect through their love of books. When I met old Tim, the store’s owner, he told me it was difficult to run a traditional bookstore. Most young people liked reading e-books better and more people bought books online.
Childhood memories came back to me so clearly. A group of us kids often went to the store. We looked at the new books, or just talked with Tim. We spent hours reading there. Tim encouraged us to share our ideas by writing them on a large board.
A few months later, I came back and was surprised to see that the Bright Bookstore was still open for business. It was still old, but inside it was like a different world. In an area, a book reading was going on. Nearby, some readers were sharing their ideas on a screen instead of the large board. Some were reading on computers. It even had a coffee shop selling nice food. Clearly, the Bright Bookstore was in good, creative hands. Tim told me that there were more community (社区) events in the coffee shop such as book readings and even concerts and movie nights. The bookstore was turned into a place where the book lovers got together and shared ideas and experiences. “I’m so glad to see that everything I wanted it to offer to the community is still here,” said Tim. No matter how times change, there are always people who love reading. With the development of technology, traditional bookstores should also change in a creative way.
23.What made the writer sad about the old Bright Bookstore?
A.No kids read in it. B.It was closing.
C.It moved to another place. D.The owner was too old to run it.
24.Why did the writer miss the old bookstore?
A.Because he had a good time working there.
B.Because the owner often read stories to him.
C.Because it brought him back to the good old days.
D.Because he and the owner were good friends.
25.How was the bookstore different a few months later?
A.The board helped people share ideas easily
B.The coffee shop brought people closer together.
C.The new look from the outside surprised people.
D.Readers could play games on computers.
26.What does the writer want to remind us?
A.Reading always has an important part in our life.
B.E-books will take the place of paper books.
C.Traditional bookstores will disappear in the future.
D.The bookstore was a place where the book lovers enjoyed coffee.
D
Where there’s a will, there’s a way. This old saying matches the stories of many great people in Unit 3. Stephen Hawking is one of the most famous examples. He was diagnosed with a terrible disease shortly after his 21st birthday. The illness slowly robbed him of muscle movement. However, he never let difficulties stand in his way. With a positive attitude, he continued his research into the universe and wrote the popular book A Brief History of Time.
Kieran Behan, an Irish gymnast, also shows the spirit of never giving up. He fell ill at 10 and got injured at 12. Twice he met terrible challenges, but he kept training hard. Finally, he made it to the London 2012 Olympics.
Their stories teach us a valuable lesson. When we meet tough situations in daily life, we should not give up easily. We need to build a strong will and hold on to our dreams. Whatever troubles come our way, we can find ways to overcome them as long as we keep trying.
27.What happened to Hawking after his 21st birthday?
A.He wrote his famous book.
B.He was diagnosed with a serious disease.
C.He took part in the Olympics.
D.He hurt his legs during training.
28.What is Kieran Behan’s job?
A.A scientist. B.A gymnast. C.A runner. D.A coach.
29.How many big difficulties did Kieran meet?
A.One. B.Two. C.Three. D.Four.
30.What does the writer want to tell us?
A.We should never give up when facing difficulties.
B.It is easy to become famous athletes.
C.All diseases can stop people’s dreams.
D.Only great people can achieve success.

Through this policy, more and more people get to see the real China. Luke from France 60 (提到;说到) in his online video last week, “This is the whole reason why we decided to come to China—we wanted to see 61 (确切地;精确地) what it is like in person. But one day, one of the 67 (drop) got bored. He would like to see what it would be like to be a dirty drop. The other drops tried to talk him out of the idea, but failed.
When the drop came back all dirty, all the other drops in the bottle were influenced and changed into dirty drops, too. Several months later, someone put the bottle in a pool. A lot of clean water entered the large bottle, and the drops 68 (final) made themselves pure again.
Now the drops reach 69 agreement that if they want to be clean, then each of them will have to stay clean. 70 (correct) the mistake of even one single drop needs much hard work.
In a way, this bottle of water is similar 71 the situation on the Earth. If we want to live on a clean planet, it’s necessary for each of 72 (we) to be a “clean drop”. 73 (whenever) someone or a country becomes a “dirty drop” and pollutes the air or the ocean, the whole Earth will become a bit 74 (dirty) than before. The same may also happen to you and your class. If you want your class to be excellent, then each of you will need 75 (value) the rules and behave (表现) well. Are you a “clean drop”?

Most of the books there are history books. Through the far door in the library, there’s a room, Class 4. You can book it for meetings. Your headmaster will give a talk there next Monday. Next door to that is the kids’ library, Class 5. It has picture books for kids under eight. OK, now does anyone have any questions?
第二部分 阅读理解 (共两节,满分40分)
第一节 阅读理解(共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Artificial intelligence (AI) can be really helpful in our daily life.
【答案】16.A 17.A 18.B
【导语】本文是一篇议论文,主要围绕AI演员展开,介绍它的优势,也谈及人们的担忧,结局取决于大众的喜好。
【详解】16.根据第一段中的“Although Tilly hasn’t been in any big movies or TV shows yet, the company that created her says she could be a star.”可知,虽然Tilly尚未出演大片,但创造Tilly的公司说她未来有可能成为明星。
17.根据第三段中的“However, there are also concerns because AI actors may not be accepted by everyone.”以及后文“Real actors…could lose their jobs because of these computer programs…but they do this without asking or paying the real actors. Besides, AI actors often look a little strange.”

【答案】19.B 20.D 21.C 22.D

20.根据第三段“During the day, our body temperature naturally rises and drops. It is usually at its highest in the early afternoon...”可知,白天体温先升高(下午早些时候最高)后降低。
21.根据第四段“When you’re asleep, your body temperature drops further. It keeps low until it slowly rises...”

【答案】23.B 24.C 25.B 26.A

25.根据第三段“Tim told me that there were more community events in the coffee shop such as book readings and even concerts and movie nights. The bookstore was turned into a place where the book lovers got together and shared ideas and experiences.”可知,新增的咖啡店举办各类社区活动,让爱书的人相聚交流,拉近了人们之间的距离,是书店数月后最大的变化。
26.根据第三段“No matter how times change, there are always people who love reading. With the development of technology, traditional bookstores should also change in a creative way.”可知,作者想告诉我们无论时代如何变化,阅读在人们生活中始终占据重要地位。

P: You can, but then you might check messages or look at apps, so be careful. I use my dad’s kitchen timer and turn off my phone while studying.

【答案】例文:
Dear Tom,
Thanks for your letter. I’m sorry to hear you’re suffering from heavy study pressure. As students, we need to balance study and rest.
My favourite way to relax is reading. It broadens my mind and calms me down when tired. Last weekend, worn‑out after homework, I read Treasure Island. I was deeply attracted by its story and forgot my tiredness completely.
You can give it a try. Don’t study all the time and learn to relax. I hope my experience will help you.
Yours truly,
Lin Dan
