When you are having a conversation with someone, what do you really pay attention to? If words are the only thing you notice, then you may be missing part of the message!
In daily life, people do not always say exactly what they mean. According to Albert Mehrabian’s 7-38-55 rule, when people express feelings, only 7% of the message comes from the actual words they say. A huge 38% comes from tone (语气) of voice. The largest part, 55% comes from body language, such as hand gestures (手势) and facial expressions.
So how can people work out the true meaning behind someone’s words? We should pay more attention to how they speak—loud or soft, fast or slow, energetic or calm—than to what they say. If someone’s words say one thing but their tone and face say another, these signs can help us discover the actual meaning. For example, if someone says “I’m fine” but crosses their arms or looks away, they are probably hiding their true feelings.
Words may open the conversation, but they do not always tell the whole story. Sometimes, the real message is hidden in a shaky voice, an embarrassing smile, or a sudden silence. Good communicators do not just take words at face value but read between the lines.
19. How does the writer start the topic?
A. By telling a story.
B. By asking a question.
C. By introducing a saying.
20. Where does most of the message come from when people express feelings?
A. Actual words. B. Tone of voice. C. Body language.
21. What can we infer (推断) from the example in Paragraph 3?
A. We should listen to others carefully.
B. It’s easy to judge a person by their words.
C. People don’t often say things straight out.
22. What is the structure of the text?
A. B. C.
23. What does the passage mainly tell us?
A. Ways to start a daily conversation.
B. The importance of polite language.
C. More than words in communication.

The Feynman Method is a great way to learn. It was created by Richard Feynman, a famous scientist. Many students find it very helpful. ____29____ Also, it is different from old ways of studying, like reading textbooks again and again. It asks students to be more active in learning.

Notice
To all students,
Which is better, reading a whole (全部的) book or reading book reviews? To learn more about students’ reading habits and offer better reading guidance, our club will carry out a survey this week.
Please share your true reading experiences. With your feedback (反馈), we will further improve our club activities and help more students enjoy reading.
Sincerely,
Reading Corner Club
This question quickly becomes a hot topic. Students hold different opinions about it. Here are some of their ideas.
I believe it is better to read a whole book. This way, I can fully follow the story and catch all the important details. Besides, I learn beautiful sentences and useful new words from the book. This greatly helps me improve my reading and writing skills step by step.
—Li Yutong
I love reading book reviews because they collect different readers’ ideas. They tell me the advantages and disadvantages of a book. With these useful comments, I can clearly know if a book fits my taste. It is helpful for me to pick good books and stay away from boring ones.
—Bai Jie
I think reading book reviews is a better choice. I am busy with my studies every day and have little free time. Book reviews are short and clear. They directly show the main idea of a book. I can know what the book is about in a few minutes. It allows me to save plenty of time.
—Liu Zixuan
In my opinion, reading a whole book is much more enjoyable. When I’m reading, I guess what will happen next and try to understand why the characters behave differently. This kind of reading has enriched my mind and helped me enjoy the fun of reading by myself.

根据后文老师安慰“我”(“Don’t worry!...Just practise more.”)、邀请“我”参加俱乐部(She invited me to join the English speech club.)、不断鼓励“我”(Miss Wang and my classmates encouraged me.)可知,老师是耐心开导“我”,patiently(耐心地)符合语境;curiously(好奇地)、politely(礼貌地)无法体现老师安抚、开导学生的状态。
(Seeing Miss Wang and my classmates in the audience),这种陪伴会让人内心温暖,warm(温暖的)符合语境;creative(有创造力的)、normal(普通的)无法描写被人支持时的内心感受。
这段克服胆怯、收获鼓励与进步的经历是珍贵的馈赠,gift(礼物),最符合语境;deal(交易)、review(复习、评论)代入句子语义不通。

B 20. C 21. C 22. A 23. C

原文首句用问句“What do you really pay attention to?”

Sincerely,

This question quickly becomes a hot topic. Students hold different opinions about it. Here are some of their ideas.
I believe it is better to read a whole book. This way, I can fully follow the story and catch all the important details. Besides, I learn beautiful sentences and useful new words from the book. This greatly helps me improve my reading and writing skills step by step.
