Of all the painters in the history of China, Zheng Xie, who was commonly known as Zheng Banqiao in the Qing Dynasty, is widely regarded as one of the most renowned painters for his exceptional skill in painting bamboo.
Among many paintings of bamboo created by Zheng Banqiao, the painting scroll titled “Bamboo and Stone” can perfectly explain the reason for bamboo being admired by so many ancient Chinese literati(文人)and painters. In this painting scroll stands a stone cliff firmly, with a clump of bamboo taking its roots just under the rock. The difference in the intensity of the ink and the staggered(交错的)lines create a feeling of depth, forming the effect of three dimensions. The poetry inscribed on the right side of the painting directly reflects the firm and tough willpower of bamboo “Steadily cling to the mountain, take root in a cracked cliff; grow stronger after hardships, and resist winds from all directions.”
During his career as an official for 12 years, Zheng earned the respect from many people and he reserved his enthusiasm and passion by staying away from the culture of corruption. However, owing to this unwillingness to yield to the philistine(平庸的)ways of the official circle, he later resigned, turning out to be a calligrapher and painting merchant.
Zheng was praised as “one of the most outstanding figures in China in the past three hundred years.” His “bamboo”spirit, as well as his legendary life experience, will be passed on from generation to generation along with his classic paintings and poetry, being the cultural gene and internalized spiritual symbol which will influence all Chinese.

(2024·北京·高考真题·阅读理解B篇)When I was a little girl, I liked drawing, freely and joyously making marks on the walls at home. In primary school, I learned to write using chalks. Writing seemed to be another form of drawing. I shaped individual letters into repeating lines, which were abstract forms, delightful but meaningless patterns.
In secondary school, art was my favourite subject. Since I loved it so much I thought I was good at it. For the art O-level exam I had to present an oil painting. I found it difficult, but still hoped to pass. I failed, with a low grade. I’d been over-confident. Now I’d been declared talentless.
But other channels of creativity stayed open: I went on writing poems and stories. Still, I went to exhibitions often. I continued my habitual drawing, which I now characterised as childish doodling(乱画). In my 30s, I made painter friends and learned new ways of looking at art. However, I couldn’t let myself have a go at actually doing it. Though these new friends were abstract painters using oil paints, or were printmakers or sculptors, I took oil painting as the taboo(禁忌)high form I wasn’t allowed to practice.
One night, in my early 40s, I dreamed that a big woman in red approached me, handed me a bag of paints, and told me to start painting. The dream felt so authoritative that it shook me. It was a form of energy, giving me back something I’d lost. Accordingly, I started by experimenting with water colours. Finally, I bought some oil paints.
Although I have enjoyed breaking my decades-long taboo about working with oil paints, I have discovered I now prefer chalks and ink. I let my line drawings turn into cartoons I send to friends. It all feels free and easy. Un-anxious. This time around, I can accept my limitations but keep going.
Becoming a successful painter calls for being resolute. I realised I was always afraid of wanting too much. That dream reminded me that those fears and desires could encourage me to take risks and make experiments.
24. How did the author feel about the result of the art exam?
A. Scared. B. Worried. C. Discouraged. D. Wronged.
25. In her 30s, the author ________.
A. avoided oil painting practice B. sought for a painting career
C. fancied abstract painting D. exhibited child paintings
26. Which word would best describe the author’s dream?
A. Confusing. B. Empowering. C. Disturbing. D. Entertaining.
27. What can we learn from this passage?
A. Actions speak louder than words. B. Hard work is the mother of success.
C. Dreams are the reflections of realities. D. Creative activities involve being confident.
C 25. A 26. B 27. D
根据第二段“I found it difficult, but still hoped to pass. I failed, with a low grade. I’d been over-confident. Now I’d been declared talentless.(我觉得很难,但仍希望能通过测试。我没有通过,而且成绩很低。我过于自信了。现在,我被宣布为毫无(油画)天赋的人了)”并结合下文中作者多年不碰油画的经历可推知,作者对美术考试的结果感到气馁,故选C。
25. 细节理解题。根据第三段“In my 30s, I made painter friends and learned new ways of looking at art.(在我30多岁时,我结交了画家朋友们,学到了看待艺术的新方法)”和“Though these new friends were abstract painters using oil paints, or were printmakers or sculptors, I took oil painting as the taboo(禁忌)high form I wasn’t allowed to practice.(虽然这些新朋友是使用油画颜料的抽象画师,或者是版画家或雕塑家,但我把油画作为禁忌的高级形式,不允许我练习)”可知,作者在30多岁时回避练习油画,故选A。
根据第四段“The dream felt so authoritative that it shook me. It was a form of energy, giving me back something I’d lost.(这个梦给我的感觉是如此的权威,它震撼了我。它是能量的一种形式,让我找回我失去的东西)”可知,作者的梦赋予作者练习油画的力量,故选B。
27. 推理判断题。根据第六段“Becoming a successful painter calls for being resolute. I realised I was always afraid of wanting too much.(成为一名成功的画家需要有决心。

命题规律1.文中长复合句、特殊句型处常考;
2.语言转折和强对比处常考;
3. 忠实于原文,以文章提供的事实和线索为依据进行合理推断。不能主观臆想,凭空想象,随意揣测,更不能以自己的观点代替作者的观点;

Passage 1
(25-26高二上·河北衡水·阶段检测)With such a strong artistic heritage, it’s no surprise that England knocks it out of the park when it comes to world-class art galleries. These are the galleries you need to add to your must-visit list.
Royal Academy of Arts(RA), London
Not your standard gallery, the Royal Academy of Arts is led by artists to promote not just the appreciation of art, but its practice. It is world-famous for hosting some exhibitions that get everyone talking. Set in hundreds of acres of West Yorkshire parkland, you’ll see sculptures by some of the leading artists of the 20th century.
Whitworth, Manchester
After a sky-high £15 million development, the Whitworth is becoming one of the premier galleries in the north of England. Making full use of its picturesque park setting, the gallery has a beautiful art garden and a sculpture terrace(露台), all waiting to be explored. Inside the gallery, you can view an exciting programme of ever-changing exhibitions.

根据Royal Academy of Arts(RA), London部分中“It is world-famous for hosting some exhibitions that get everyone talking. Besides, what sets the RA apart is its engagement with the public through participatory experiences, allowing visitors to not only view art but become part of it in innovative ways.(它以举办一些让每个人都在谈论的展览而闻名于世。此外,RA的独特之处在于它通过参与式体验与公众互动,让参观者不仅可以观看艺术,还可以以创新的方式成为艺术的一部分)”可知,皇家艺术学院的特别之处在于它提供的是一种互动体验,故选A。
2. 细节理解题。根据Yorkshire Sculpture Park, West Yorkshire部分中“Tearing up the rulebook when it comes to how we traditionally view art, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park strives to break down barriers by showing works from British and international artists in the open air.(当谈到我们传统上如何看待艺术时,约克郡雕塑公园打破了规则,通过在露天展示英国和国际艺术家的作品,努力打破障碍)”和Whitworth, Manchester部分中“Making full use of its picturesque park setting, the gallery has a beautiful art garden and a sculpture terrace(露台), all waiting to be explored.(画廊充分利用其风景如画的公园环境,拥有一个美丽的艺术花园和一个雕塑露台, 所有这些都有待探索)”可知,约克郡雕塑公园和惠特沃斯画廊的共同之处在于它们都提供户外环境,故选B。
With such a strong artistic heritage, it’s no surprise that England knocks it out of the park when it comes to world-class art galleries. Passage 2
(25-26高一上·辽宁·期末)Growing up in rural Jiangsu Province, Yu Jigao showed a strong interest in fine arts at an early age and studied on his own for years. His hard work paid off later. In the early 1950s, he made his way to Nanjing Normal University, where he learned painting theories and techniques from some famous artists. It was then that Yu found his lifelong artistic zeal for gongbi. Gongbi paintings usually describe birds and flowers, symbols of beauty and joy, in an artistic way with intense color.
After graduation from the art school in 1957, Yu began his professional career at the Chinese Painting Institute of Jiangsu. He has since published a series of art collections. Since 1959, Yu has contributed a series of works to many important sites. Yu’s works have also been displayed in a range of national and international exhibitions. From 1986 to 1997, he held his exhibitions in such places as Beijing, Guangzhou and New York. Both the themes and artistic techniques have won widespread praise in the past years.
While observing traditional rules, he uses accurate lines, powerful brush movements as well as the interplay between dark and light to represent the harmony of nature. Though he adopts a realistic style, he tries to enrich his works with spiritual beauty through his brush. Yu says, “That feeling turns into the images of singing birds and elegant flowers in my paintings.” Thanks to his careful observation of nature and artistic sensitivity, Yu is able to combine realistic description with artistic expression in his brushwork.
Now as deputy director of the Academy of Chinese Gongbi Painting of Flowers and Birds and a national top-level artist, Yu maintains a simple and easy-going style. In addition to artistic creation, Yu has devoted himself to promoting his painting style as the cultural heritage of China. “Art is part of my life,” Yu says. “I am proud to be a flower-bird painter. I hope to create a bright future for it through my efforts.”
1. What does the underlined word “zeal” in paragraph 1 mean?

C. His achievements in painting. D. His contributions to the art school.
3. Which is Yu’s painting feature?
A. Adopting abstract objects.
B. Ignoring plants and animals.
C. Combining traditional rules with a realistic style.
D. Representing the imbalance between nature and humans.
4. What does Yu expect of his painting style?
A. It will be passed on. B. It will change over time.
C. It will look more complicated. D. It will reach the top international level.
B 2. C 3. C 4. A
根据划线词上文“In the early 1950s, he made his way to Nanjing Normal University, where he learned painting theories and techniques from some famous artists. It was then that Yu found(20世纪50年代初,他来到南京师范大学,在那里他从一些著名艺术家那里学习绘画理论和技巧。就在那时)”的语境和强调句型可知,此处是指就在学习绘画理论和技巧时,喻继高发现了他对工笔画一生的艺术热情。故推测,zeal意为“热情”,故选B。
2. 主旨大意题。根据第二段“After graduation from the art school in 1957, Yu began his professional career at the Chinese Painting Institute of Jiangsu. He has since published a series of art collections. Since 1959, Yu has contributed a series of works to many important sites. Yu’s works have also been displayed in a range of national and international exhibitions. 3. 细节理解题。根据第三段“While observing traditional rules, he uses accurate lines, powerful brush movements as well as the interplay between dark and light to represent the harmony of nature. Though he adopts a realistic style, he tries to enrich his works with spiritual beauty through his brush.(在遵守传统规则的同时,他使用精确的线条、有力的笔刷动作以及黑暗和光明之间的相互作用来代表自然的和谐。虽然他采用了现实主义的风格,但他试图通过笔触来丰富自己的作品,使之具有精神美)”可知,喻的绘画风格结合了传统的规则和现实主义风格,故选C。
4. 推理判断题。根据第四段“In addition to artistic creation, Yu has devoted himself to promoting his painting style as the cultural heritage of China. “Art is part of my life,” Yu says. “I am proud to be a flower-bird painter. I hope to create a bright future for it through my efforts.”(除了艺术创作之外,喻还致力于将他的绘画风格作为中国的文化遗产加以推广。喻说:“艺术是我生活的一部分。作为一名花鸟画家,我感到很自豪。我希望通过我的努力,为它创造一个美好的未来。”)”推知,喻希望他的绘画风格被传承下去,故选A。
Passage 3
(25-26高二下·广西玉林·期中)Salvador Dali is one of the most influential and famous painters of all time. Not just a painter, but his personality was as unique as his paintings. His surrealistic paintings are so famous that they overshadow his other artworks.
Hearing the name “Salvador Dali” alone creates an image, or perhaps I should say, a painting in the minds of people. His paintings are usually surrealistic and hard to understand, but once understood, they convey their message so fluently and beautifully. During his creative exploration, Dali went deep into various artistic styles, such as impressionism, cloisonne(分格画), and cubism(立体画), before eventually venturing into surrealism. It was in this period that he created one of his famous paintings, Sick Boy—Pointillism(点彩派).
Pointillism is the method of painting using only small dots of color to create the painting. Sick Boy is a clear mixture of expressionism and pointillism, but there’s more going on here. Dali has added a little bit of surrealism as well. This is a self-portrait of him in Cadaqués, the coastal town where he used to spend his summers.
While the sickness of the child can be seen from his lying position, exhausted and weak, and looking at the viewers’ eyes, the actual sickness is far more terrifying. Take a look at his hand with long, pointed fingers. His face presents a disturbing and threatening expression. It is hardly human. It almost feels like there is another creature inside the body of this kid, using the skin and face as a cover.
The parallel can be drawn from the other living thing in the painting, the caged canary(金丝雀). Similar to the canary, which is imprisoned inside this cage to stay, the boy’s true self is imprisoned inside the body. There might be some dark and sick intentions inside his mind, but those must be controlled. The way the sick child lies on
the chair and stares ahead makes it one of the frightening paintings by Salvador Dali.
1. What are the main features of Salvador Dali’s paintings?
A. Hope and optimism. B. Fluency and harmony.
C. Beauty and simplicity. D. Complexity and confusion.
2. What is the subject of Sick Boy?
A. A portrait Dali painted for himself. B. The painter’s favorite coastal town.
C. A canary imprisoned inside the cage. D. The exploration of various artistic styles.
3. What is the significance of the caged canary in the painting?
A. It represents the boy’s sickness. B. It conveys the beauty of nature.
C. It symbolizes the boy’s trapped true self. D. It shows the sick boy’s love for animals.
4. Which words can best describe Salvador Dali?
A. Energetic and realistic. B. Negative and stubborn.
C. Strange and threatening. D. Unconventional and creative.
D 2. A 3. C 4. D

It was in this period that he created one of his famous paintings, Sick Boy—Pointillism(点彩派).(在他的创作探索中,达利深入到各种艺术风格,如印象派、景泰蓝和立体主义,最后冒险进入超现实主义。
Passage 4
(25-26高二上·安徽六安·期末)Jason M. Allen was almost too nervous to enter his first art competition. Now, his award-winning image is stirring debates about whether art can be generated by a computer, and what, exactly, it means to be an artist.
In August 2022, Allen, a 39-year-old game designer who lives in Pueblo West, Colorado, won first place in the “digital arts/digitally-operated photography” category at the Colorado State Fair Fine Arts Competition. His winning image, titled Théatre D’opéra Spatial, was made with Midjourney — an artificial intelligence(AI)system that can produce detailed images when fed written prompts(提示).
Allen’s winning image looks like a bright cross between a classic and modern painting. It’s one of three such images he entered in the competition. Allen posted excitedly about his win on Midjourney’s Discord server on August 25, along with pictures of his three entries. It spread quickly on social media days later, with many artists feeling angry about Allen’s win because of his use of AI to create the image. “He just pressed a few buttons to make a digital art piece,” one user wrote. “We’re watching the death of art unfold before our eyes.”
However, to get the final three images he entered in the competition, Allen said, he took over 80 hours. First, he played around with phrasing that led Midjourney to generate images of women in nice dresses and space helmets. Over time, with slight adjustments to his written prompts, he created 900 repeating processes of what led to his final three images. He gave the final touch to those three images in Photoshop. Then he ran the images through another software program called Gigapixel AI that can improve resolution(分辨率)and had the images printed at a local print shop.
Allen is glad that debates over whether AI can be used to make art are getting so much attention. “Rather than hating the technology or the people behind it, we need to recognize it’s a powerful tool and use it for good so we can all move forward,” Allen said.
1. What do we know about Théatre D’opéra Spatial?
A. Its beauty is widely accepted. B. Its creation is an easy process.
C. It has caused a lot of arguments. D. It shows the death of traditional art.
2. What did Allen do to create his entries?
A. He edited his final images in Photoshop. B. He searched for smart written prompts.
C. He fed Midjourney with famous paintings. D. He developed the software named Gigapixel.
3. What is Allen’s attitude to the debates over AI-created art?
A. Worried. B. Uncaring. C. Annoyed. D. Favorable.
4. What might be the best title for the text?
A. AI Beats out Human Artists in the Art Field
B. AI Won an Art Contest and Artists Are Angry
C. An Artist Wins State Fair Art Contest and Laughs
D. The Artist from Pueblo West Is Defending His Work
C 2. A 3. D 4. B

Passage 5
(25-26高二上·广东广州·阶段检测)After Taylor Swift, the “Mona Lisa” is probably the most recognizable female face in the world. Every day around 20,000 people stare at the Leonardo da Vinci’s painting in the Louvre. Yet it became famous not because of a tempting semi-smile. Until a worker stole the masterpiece in 1911, it was still mostly unknown; viewers flooded in to see what a French newspaper called “an enormous, horrific, gaping void(空白)”.
Classics of art, literature and music are supposed to carry some mysterious appeal that endures across the ages. But as Rochelle Gurstein, a historian, writes in a new book, the “timeless classic” is anything but. “What I believed was written in stone was actually written in water”, she argues. Classics come and go.
Take other celebrated works of art. Until the end of the 19th century Michelangelo’ s “David” had only his fig leaf to protect him from the weather in Piazza della Signoria in Florence. He attracted more pigeons than visitors; visitors preferred the artist’s sculpture of Moses in Rome. Before the famous “Venus de Milo” was discovered in 1820, viewers were crazy about “Venus de Medici”, a delicate sculpture most people alive today have never heard of.
Much as in art, the classics of music and literature have not always been set in stone either. Today, Johann Sebastian Bach is often regarded as the master of classical music. But after his death in 1750, Bach’s compositions fell out of fashion until Felix Mendelssohn, a German composer, rediscovered them in the 1820s. Herman Melville’s masterpiece “Moby Dick” was largely forgotten until critics such as Raymond Weaver, a professor at Columbia University rescued him from the depth of a nobody around the centenary of his birth in 1919.
“The status of classics” depends on critics and shows the power of passionate writers to change the way people look at art. Tastes evolve, and they should. But culture lives on only as long as people continue to argue over what counts as a classic today. The true enemy of the classic is not relativism or awakening. It is silence.
1. What made the painting “Mona Lisa” famous?
A. The theft. B. The semi-smile. C. The report. D. The painter.
2. What does Rochelle think of classics?
A. Enduring. B. Fading. C. Changeable. D. Admirable.
3. How does the author develop paragraph 4?
A. By making a comparison. B. By offering examples.
C. By giving an explanation. D. By giving a description.
4. What might ultimately discourage the development of classics?
A. The ignorance of culture. B. The course of time.
C. The evolution of tastes. D. The lack of criticism.
A 2. C 3. B 4. D
根据第一段中“Yet it became famous not because of a tempting semi-smile. Until a worker stole the masterpiece in 1911, it was still mostly unknown; viewers flooded in to see what a French newspaper called “an enormous, horrific, gaping void(空白)”(然而,它之所以出名,并不是因为一个诱人的半笑。直到1911年一名工人偷走了这幅杰作,它基本上仍然不为人知;观众蜂拥而至,看到一家法国报纸所说的“一个巨大的、可怕的、裂开的空洞”)”可知,让《蒙娜丽莎》这幅画出名的是一次工人偷窃事件,故选A项。
2. 推理判断题。根据第二段中“But as Rochelle Gurstein, a historian, writes in a new book, the “timeless classic” is anything but. “What I believed was written in stone was actually written in water”, she argues. Classics come and go.( 但正如历史学家罗谢尔•格斯坦(Rochelle Gurstein)在一本新书中所写的那样,“永恒的经典”绝非如此。“我相信写在石头上的东西实际上是写在水里的,”她说。经典作品来来去去)”可知,罗谢尔认为经典作品是多变的,故选C项。
3. 推理判断题。根据第四段中“Today, Johann Sebastian Bach is often regarded as the master of classical music. But after his death in 1750, Bach’s compositions fell out of fashion until Felix Mendelssohn, a German composer, rediscovered them in the 1820s. Herman Melville’s masterpiece “Moby Dick” was largely forgotten until critics such as Raymond Weaver, a professor at Columbia University rescued him from the depth of a nobody around the centenary of his birth in 1919.(今天,约翰·塞巴斯蒂安·巴赫通常被认为是古典音乐大师。
根据最后一段““The status of classics” depends on critics and shows the power of passionate writers to change the way people look at art. Tastes evolve, and they should. But culture lives on only as long as people continue to argue over what counts as a classic today. The true enemy of the classic is not relativism or awakening. It is silence.(“经典的地位”取决于评论家,并显示了热情的作家改变人们看待艺术的方式的力量。品味在进化,也应该如此。但是,只要人们继续争论什么是今天的经典,文化就会继续存在。经典的真正敌人不是相对主义或觉醒。它是沉默)”可知,缺乏批评可能最终阻碍经典的发展,故选D项。

Passage 7
How to Appreciate Traditional Chinese Painting
Traditional Chinese painting, also known as “guohua”, is a unique art form with a history of over 2,000 years. Unlike Western painting, which often focuses on realistic details, guohua emphasizes harmony, emotion, and spiritual meaning. ___1___ Here are some tips to help you understand and enjoy this ancient art.
First, pay attention to the theme of the painting. ___2___ Common themes include landscapes, flowers and birds, figures, and bamboo. Landscapes often reflect the painter’s love for nature and desire for freedom. Bamboo symbolizes integrity and perseverance, while peonies represent prosperity and good fortune. Understanding the theme will help you grasp the painter’s message.
Second, observe the composition. Guohua painters use “blank space”(known as “liubai”)skillfully. ___3___ Instead of filling the entire canvas, they leave empty areas to create a sense of depth and imagination. For example, a painting of a mountain may have a large blank space representing clouds or water, inviting viewers to imagine the scene beyond.
Third, appreciate the brushwork and ink technique. ___4___ Painters use different brush strokes — thick or thin, light or heavy — to express texture and emotion. Ink can be black, gray, or brown, depending on how much water is added. A single stroke can show the strength of a pine tree or the softness of a flower petal.
Fourth, learn about the painter’s background. ___5___ For example, paintings from the Song Dynasty are known for their elegance and precision, while those from the Ming Dynasty are more free and expressive. Knowing the painter’s era and style will help you better understand the work’s artistic value.
With these tips, you can begin your journey into the wonderful world of traditional Chinese painting and discover its timeless charm.
A. Each era has its own artistic style and characteristics.
B. Appreciating guohua is a personal and reflective experience.
C. Brush and ink are the basic tools of traditional Chinese painting.
D. Traditional Chinese painting is popular among people of all ages.

1. 根据上文“Traditional Chinese painting, also known as ‘guohua,’ is a unique art form with a history of over 2,000 years. Unlike Western painting, which often focuses on realistic details, guohua emphasizes harmony, emotion, and spiritual meaning.(中国传统绘画,也被称为‘国画’,是一种独特的艺术形式,有2000多年的历史。与西方绘画往往注重现实细节不同,国画强调和谐、情感和精神意义)”及下文“Here are some tips to help you understand and enjoy this ancient art.(这里有一些建议可以帮助你理解和享受这门古老的艺术)”可知,前文对比了中西方绘画的差异,西方写实,而中国画重精神意义,下文要介绍鉴赏技巧。由此可知,G选项“This makes guohua a fascinating art form that requires careful observation.(这使得国画成为一种迷人的艺术形式,需要仔细观察)”符合语境,故选G。

命题规律1.文中长复合句、特殊句型处常考;
2.语言转折和强对比处常考;
3. 忠实于原文,以文章提供的事实和线索为依据进行合理推断。不能主观臆想,凭空想象,随意揣测,更不能以自己的观点代替作者的观点;

D. The Artist from Pueblo West Is Defending His Work
Passage 6
(25-26高二上·宁夏·期末)As a professional artist, people ask me all the time where I get inspiration. ___1___ Favorite artists? Where do you find reference photos? Whether you’re painting flowers, abstracts or landscapes, staying inspired is the key to always creating new work and discovering your own unique style.

E. Unlike Western painting, guohua does not pursue realistic representation.
F. Guohua themes are often deeply rooted in Chinese culture and philosophy.
G. This makes guohua a fascinating art form that requires careful observation.
