I found a new person inside me, a much braver, more outgoing person who had been hidden all along, just waiting for the 13 to appear Just a few months earlier, it was impossible to 14 myself acting in a play in front of two hundred people. But without my teacher, Mrs Smith, I couldn’t get that chance. In the first and second grade, I was quite shy. But Mrs. Smith always 15 me. One day, she said, “Our class is going to 16 a play. Anybody, want to try?” A few excited hands were up... mine, of course, was not one of them. After school she stopped me and invited me for a talk. Confused, I followed her to her desk. She said, “I think you are 17 for the lead character. But I was surprised you didn’t raise your hand.” Me, the lead? Was she crazy? Mrs. Smith looked into my eyes as if seeing my inner 18 locked away inside. “But I’d like you to give this a try for me.” she continued. “If you reach for the stars, you might at least catch a piece of the moon.” I realized it was time to show myself 19 . I looked Mrs. Smith right in her sparkling (闪亮的)blue eyes and said, “OK. I’ll try.” In the following months, despite the fears, I did everything I could to 20 I could do it in practice. Different people have different ideas. The following is what four of my classmates say about their ideal friends. A. I like to have friends who are similar to me. I hope both my friend and I like travelling. We can travel to Italy with our families this summer vacation. I hope my friend likes to take photos, just like me. B. I like to have friends who are different from me. I’m serious. I hope my friend is friendlier than me. I am quiet and I like reading very much. I hope that my friend likes sports. She can ask me to join her. C. I like to have friends who are smarter than me. It can be very helpful. My friend can tell me what I should do, because he or she knows about me better than others. D. I don’t care if friends are different or the same. I think it is important to make friends with a person who is interesting and funny. I hope he has a sense of humor and likes to tell jokes. That makes life more interesting. 21. Mike is an interesting boy who likes to tell jokes. 22. Jack likes travelling abroad and taking photos. 23. Emma is always nice to others and she is good at sports. B Last month, our teacher said there would be a talent show in our school. I quickly signed up to play the guitar. I had been practicing “Clair de Lune” for weeks. It was my favourite song, and I decided to play it perfectly. I felt so happy just thinking about it. The night before the show, something terrible happened. I was playing the song one last time when suddenly the high E string (弦) broke. I felt very sad. I didn’t have a spare (备用的) string, and all the music stores were already closed. I sat on my bed, looking at the broken string. Tears filled my eyes. “I should just stop trying,” I said quietly. My mum walked past my room and saw me. She came in and sat down next to me. “Remember when you learned to ride a bike?” she said. “You fell many times, but you kept getting back on. This is just another small problem.” Her warm words made me think. If I gave up, I would waste all my hard work. The next morning, I borrowed an old guitar from my music teacher. It wasn’t in tune (曲调), and the strings felt rough (粗糙的). But it was better than nothing. I practised like crazy backstage (后台). My fingers hurt while I was getting familiar with the new instrument. When my name was called, I took a deep breath and walked out. At first, my hands shook. But as I played, I forgot about the broken string and the old guitar. I focused on the music—the soft notes drifting (飘荡) through the hall. When I finished, the crowd clapped (鼓掌) loudly. I didn’t win first place, but that didn’t matter (要紧). What mattered was that I hadn’t given up. On that day, I realised something important. Difficulties are just chances to show how strong you are. Never give up! Now, whenever I face something hard, I remember the broken guitar string—and I keep going. 24.How did the writer feel when the guitar string broke? A.Sad. B.Happy. C.Warm. D.Tired. 25.What did the writer do to solve the problem of the broken string? A.He used a spare string. B.He asked his mother for help. C.He decided to sing a song instead. D.He borrowed a guitar from his teacher. 26.What did the writer realise at the end of the story? A.Getting a new guitar string is very important. B.Winning first place in the talent show is very difficult. C.Never give up and keep going when you meet difficulties. D.The crowd clapped their hands to show their love and respect. C Do Boys and Girls Have Different Reading Habits? The Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a worldwide study of 15-year-old students’ performance in math, science, and reading. A closer look at the reading tests shows the interesting fact—girls are outperforming boys in reading and this is connected with girls’ greater enjoyment of reading. One key area which has a main effect on reading performance is reading for enjoyment rather than simply for study or schoolwork purposes. Interestingly, the PISA study found that in all countries except South Korea assessed (评估) girls read for enjoyment more than boys. The study found that in all the countries assessed, just over half of boys, but almost three-quarters of girls said that they read for enjoyment. In countries such as Estonia, Lithuania and the Netherlands, the difference between boys and girls was most significant (显著的). What’s more, in places such as Austria, very low levels of boys expressed interest in reading. However, in places like Japan, boys and girls read for enjoyment at almost the same level. And there were a few countries and places that scored very highly in boys reading enjoyment, for example, in Albania, Indonesia, Shanghai in China and Thailand where at least 80% of boys enjoy reading. Although these positive numbers are matched and passed by girls who reported an even higher level of reading enjoyment (90%). An interesting area which the PISA study looked at was the types of literature (文学作品) that both girls and boys generally enjoy. Boys were found to enjoy reading magazines, newspapers, and comic books more than girls. Girls were found to be twice as likely to enjoy works of fiction (小说) as boys. This was clearly repeated across all countries. While reading in all forms is certainly beneficial and should be supported, the low number of boys reading for enjoyment and their limited choices are problems that need to be solved. Countries need to think about ways to inspire interest for boys in reading and make sure that a wide variety of different types of books are available for them. The PISA study has shown a clear result in genders (性别) when it comes to reading. Low levels of interest in or enjoyment of reading can have long term effects on future success in life. For this reason, it is important that governments, teachers and parents all work to help raise reading levels. 27.According to the passage, PISA study found ________. A.boys enjoyed reading works of fiction twice as much as girls B.girls in most countries read for enjoyment more than boys C.boys liked to read for study or schoolwork purposes D.girls were better in math and science tests than boys 28.What do you know from the passage? A.Most boys in Shanghai in China enjoy reading. B.Boys in Thailand enjoy reading more than girls. C.More boys read for enjoyment than girls in Japan. D.Few girls enjoy reading magazines and newspapers. 29.The writer probably agrees that ________. A.students should be suggested reading their favorite books B.students’ future success in life depends on their reading ways C.actions should be taken to encourage boys’ interest in reading D.reading for schoolwork has a main effect on reading performance D Competition is a lot like a game. It’s fun to play games, and we all like to win. But remember, for someone to win, someone else has to lose. Even though it’s not always nice, competition has been around for a very long time. From old Greek games to soccer today, people have always enjoyed competing. Competition isn’t just in sports. It’s also in business, science, and even when people look for love. Businessmen say that competition helps keep things fair (公平的) in the market. In science, scientists compete for improving people’s lives. Competition seems to be everywhere! Some people think we are born to compete because it helps us live better. But can we use competition to help others? For example, can we make people save energy (e. g. water and electricity) or take part in volunteer work by competing? In a study, scientists looked at a competition at Princeton University called “Do-it-in-the- Dark”. Students try to use less electricity, and the group that saved the most won a prize. The study showed that during the competition, students used less electricity. But when the competition ended, they went back to using more electricity. This happened at many other universities too. The problem is that this kind of competition only works while there’s a prize. Students are more likely to take actions as long as the university maintains the prize. However, in our example, students stopped saving energy as soon as the competition ended. Once there was no prize, people would stop saving energy. This is because people save energy for the prize, not because they care about the environment. Researchers say that if we want people to keep doing good things, like saving energy, we need them to care about it for the right reasons. We need them to understand why it’s important, not just to win a prize. So, competition can be fun and helpful sometimes, but it’s not always the best way to get people to do good things. Through cooperation, working together and sharing experience during competitions, people can understand the true meaning of competition and know about the long-term benefits. It’s time we start doing the right thing, for the right reasons. 30.What can we learn from the passage? A.We should cooperate in the right way. B.Competition takes place in many fields. C.Businessmen compete to improve our lives. D.Cooperating is more important than competing. 31.The example of the “Do-it-in-the-Dark” competition shows that ________. A.people may do right things because of a prize in competitions B.competitions can help people get more experience from others C.competitions can encourage people to reach the long-term goal D.people should continue to cooperate after winning competitions 32.What does the underlined word “maintains” in Paragraph 5 most probably mean? A.Chooses. B.Changes. C.Keeps. D.Earns. 33.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage? A.To explain the importance of competition. B.To help people to face competitions bravely. C.To give suggestions for winning competitions. D.To tell people to compete for the right reasons. 第二部分 本部分共5题, 共20分。根据题目要求, 完成相应任务。 四、 阅读表达(共10分, 第1-3题每小题2分, 第4小题4分) Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship back. That is why some friendships don’t last very long. To have a friend, you must learn to be one. You must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. To be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous (慷慨的); be understanding. Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you don’t tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you haven’t been honest, you may lose your friend’s trust. Generosity (慷慨) means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You don’t have to give your lunch money or your clothes. Instead, you have to learn how to share things you enjoy, like your hobbies and your interests. Then you will want to share your ideas and feelings. By sharing them you help your friend know you better. These tell your friend what is important to you. Everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve. Turning to a friend can be the first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend, you must listen and understand. When you try to put yourself in your friend’s place, you can understand the problem better. No two friendships are ever exactly alike. But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friends, you must practise honesty, generosity and understanding. 34.Why don’t some friendships last very long? 35.What may happen if a friend finds out that you aren’t honest? 36.When can we understand a friend’s problem better? 37.If you have a small disagreement (意见不合) with a good friend, what will you do to solve the problem and protect your friendship? 【答案】24.A 25.D 26.C 【导语】本文讲述了作者在才艺表演前吉他弦断裂,通过母亲的鼓励和借用老师的吉他克服困难,最终完成表演并领悟到永不放弃的道理。 24.细节理解题。根据“I felt very sad.”可知,吉他弦断裂时作者感到非常悲伤。故选A。 25.细节理解题。根据“The next morning, I borrowed an old guitar from my music teacher.”可知,作者通过向音乐老师借吉他解决问题。故选D。 26.细节理解题。根据“Difficulties are just chances to show how strong you are. A.students should be suggested reading their favorite books B.students’ future success in life depends on their reading ways C.actions should be taken to encourage boys’ interest in reading D.reading for schoolwork has a main effect on reading performance 【答案】27.B 28.A 29.C 【导语】本文向我们介绍男孩和女孩的不同阅读习惯。 【详解】27.细节理解题。根据“Interestingly, the PISA study found that in all countries except South Korea assessed (评估) girls read for enjoyment more than boys.”可知,PISA研究发现,在除韩国外的所有国家中,女孩比男孩更喜欢阅读。故选B。 28.细节理解题。根据“And there were a few countries and places that scored very highly in boys reading enjoyment, for example in Albania, Indonesia, Shanghai in China and Thailand where at least 80% of boys enjoy reading.”可知,有几个国家和地区在男孩阅读享受方面得分很高,例如阿尔巴尼亚、印度尼西亚、中国的上海和泰国,至少80%的男孩喜欢阅读。故选A。 29.细节理解题。根据“Countries need to think about ways to inspire interest for boys in reading and make sure that a wide variety of different types of books are available for them.”可知,男生阅读乐趣低、选择有限是需要解决的问题,各国需想办法激发男生阅读兴趣。故选C。 D Competition is a lot like a game. 【答案】30.B 31.A 32.C 33.D 【导语】本文主要讲述了竞争无处不在,但是合作也很重要。 【详解】30.细节理解题。根据“Competition isn’t just in sports. It’s also in business, science, and even when people look for love. Businessmen say that competition helps keep things fair (公平的) in the market. In science, scientists compete for improving people’s lives. Competition seems to be everywhere!”可知,竞争不仅存在于体育领域,还存在于商业、科学甚至人们寻找爱情时。这表明竞争发生在许多领域,因此选项B“竞争发生在许多领域”是正确的。故选B。 31.推理判断题。根据“This is because people save energy for the prize, not because they care about the environment.”可知,人们为了奖品而节约能源,故选A。 32.词义猜测题。根据“Students are more likely to take actions as long as the university maintains the prize.”可知,只要大学保持这个奖项,学生们就更有可能采取行动,可推测出“maintains”意为“保持”,与“keeps”意思相近。故选C。 33.推理判断题。根据“Through cooperation, working together and sharing experience during competitions, people can understand the true meaning of competition and know about the long-term benefits. It’s time we start doing the right thing, for the right reasons.”可推知,作者写这篇文章的目的是告诉人们要为了正确的理由去竞争。故选D。 第二部分 本部分共5题, 共20分。根据题目要求, 完成相应任务。 四、 阅读表达(共10分, 第1-3题每小题2分, 第4小题4分) Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship back. (List at least two points.) 【答案】34.Because too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship back. 35.You may lose your friend’s trust. 36.When we try to put ourselves in our friend’s place. 37.①I will communicate with my friend honestly to express my own ideas and listen to his/her opinions. ②I will try to put myself in my friend’s place to understand his/her thoughts and be more understanding. 【导语】本文指出“很多人想要友谊却不愿付出”是友谊难以长久的原因,进而提出“成为好朋友需遵守三个原则:诚实、慷慨、体谅”,并分别解释这三个原则对维系友谊的重要性,最后总结真正的友谊都包含这三点。 34.根据第一段“Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship back. By sharing them you help your friend know you better.”及第四段“When you try to put yourself in your friend’s place, you can understand the problem better.”可知,如果和朋友意见不合,可以和朋友表达自己的想法并倾听对方的意见,还可以试着设身处地为朋友着想,以理解对方。故填①I will communicate with my friend honestly to express my own ideas and listen to his/her opinions. ②I will try to put myself in my friend’s place to understand his/her thoughts and be more understanding. 提示词语:helpful, smile, share, improve, longer 内容提示:●What is your best friend like?
