Music is often called the universal language, but how does it connect with our deepest emotions? A new study shows that music can touch our hearts even if we don't understand the words or the culture behind it.
Researchers played a piece of Indian classical music to a group of Westerners 17_____ had never heard it before. They also played a piece of Western classical music to a group of Indians 18_____ knew little about Western culture. Surprisingly, both groups reported similar feelings. Sad music made them feel calm or blue, while happy music made them feel energetic and 19_____.
This suggests that our reaction to music is 20_____ to human nature. It is not just something we learn; it is something we are born with. When we hear a slow, soft melody, our heart rate 21_____. When we hear a fast, loud rhythm, our body wants to move. This is why a baby will bounce to a drumbeat 22_____ it can barely walk.
However, culture still plays a role. While the basic 23_____ are the same, the way we interpret (解读) them can be different. For example, in Western music, a major key often means happiness. In some traditional Chinese music, the same tune might express a sense of 24_____ or longing. Understanding the culture can help us appreciate the music more deeply.
Music also helps us connect with others. When people sing together or attend a concert, they feel a sense of 25_____. It breaks down barriers (障碍) and builds bridges. In a world that is often divided, music reminds us that we are all 26_____ under the skin. So, the next time you listen to a song from another country, don't just hear the notes—listen to the 27_____ of humanity.
