范文:
Dear Mike,
Welcome to China for your holiday! Here is some advice for you.
First, it’s polite to wait for older people to start eating first. You should also use serving chopsticks to get food from shared dishes, and it’s nice to say “enjoy your meal” to others.
Second, when greeting, it’s common to shake hands firmly. You should say “nihao” with a smile, and it’s also respectful to nod your head.
Third, what about gifts? It’s a good idea to bring a small gift like fruit or tea. On special days, it’s traditional to give red pockets because they mean good luck.
Fourth, as for conversations, it’s safe to talk about hobbies and local food. You should avoid asking about people’s age or personal things.
It’s important to be open and friendly. I’m sure you’ll have a great time!
I’m looking forward to seeing you soon!
Yours,
Li Hua

Last Wednesday, a heavy rain caught me on my way home from school. I had no umbrella and no raincoat. I stood under the roof of a small shop, watching the rain pour down and worrying about my math test the next day. Just then, an old lady walked out of the shop with two umbrellas in her hand.
“Young girl, do you need an umbrella?” she asked with a warm smile. “You will get sick if you walk in this rain.” I felt surprised because I didn’t know her at all. She handed me a blue umbrella and said I could keep it. I thanked her again and again and asked for her name, but she just said, “Helping others makes me happy.”
The next morning, I decided to find her and give back the umbrella. I went back to the shop but she wasn’t there. The shop owner told me that the lady would come to the shop this afternoon to buy bread. So I waited there. When she appeared there, I ran to her and gave the umbrella back. This time, she accepted it.
The rain that day taught me something important: a small act of kindness can warm someone’s heart. Now I always keep an extra umbrella in my bag, get ready to help anyone who gets caught in the rain. And every time I lend it out, I think of that kind old lady.
24. Where did the writer stay when the heavy rain began?
A. Under the roof of a shop. B. At her friend’s house.

B. She never managed to give it back.
C. She found the lady’s home address.
D. She waited and gave the umbrella back to her.
27. Which can best describe the old lady from the text?
A. Brave and kind. B. Kind and helpful.
C. Thankful but proud. D. Interesting but special.
C
We all learn that lying (撒谎) is wrong. But is it always wrong? Some people say there are “white lies” — small lies that do not hurt anyone and may even help.
For example, if your friend asks, “Do you like my new haircut?” and you think it looks terrible, what should you say? A white lie like “It looks nice!” might save your friend’s feelings. Another example: telling a sick family member “You look better today” can give them hope.
However, others argue that any lie, even a small one is bad. They say white lies break trust. If people find out you lied, they may not believe you next time. Also, white lies can become a habit, and then it’s easier to tell bigger lies.
In my opinion, white lies should be very rare. It’s usually better to be direct (直白) but kind. For example, you can say, “I like how creative your haircut is” instead of lying.
So think twice before you tell any lies.
28. What is a “white lie” according to the text?
A. A lie told by teachers.
B. A lie about the color white.
C. A lie that causes big trouble.
D. A lie that may help or avoid hurting feelings.
29. Why do some people think white lies are bad?
A. They break trust and can cause bigger lies.
B. They are always easy to hurt people.
C. They are against the law.
D. They make people cry.
30. What’s the writer’s opinion instead of direct lies?
A. Say nothing at all. B. Be honest but kind.
C. Shout at the person. D. Say what you think.
31. What can we learn from the writer in the text?
A. All lies are good. B. You should never lie.
C. White lies are always fine. D. White lies should be very rare.
D
You may already know that hurricanes (飓风) are storms that can cause strong waves, wind, and rain. They happen during the hurricane season, it is from 1st June to 30th November in the Atlantic Ocean and from 15th May to 30th November in the Pacific Ocean.
There are five categories (级别) of hurricanes, they depend on the wind speed. The categories help people know how much damage (危害) a hurricane may cause because the greater the wind speed is, the more dangerous the storm will be.
When a hurricane happens together with heavy rainfall, there can be a terrible flood. The centre of a hurricane is called the eye. While a hurricane usually has dangerously strong winds, the eye is actually a calm area in the storm. When the eye of a hurricane passes over land, people might think that it’s over, but before long there would be more wind and rain as the second part of the hurricane moves through.
There is no way to stop a hurricane or make it change its way, so if you find yourself on the way of a hurricane, be sure to remember the following advice to keep safe.
● Be sure you have a radio, batteries, fresh drinking water, and enough food.
● Tell neighbors, friends, and family members your emergency plans. Tell them where you’ll go if you need to leave your home.
● Stay inside during the storm. You could get seriously hurt if you go outside.
32. How do we know hurricane categories?
A. By eye size. B. By flood risk.
C. By wind speed. D. By rainfall amount.
33. What does the underlined word “eye” mean in paragraph 3?
A. Heavy rain band. B. Calm centre area.
C. Storm’s outer edge. D. Strongest wind zone.
34. How can we stay safe in a hurricane?
A. Stay inside, prepare supplies. B. Run outside quickly.
C. Call emergency only. D. Drive to another city.
35. What is the text mainly about?
A. The eye and flood. B. Hurricane seasons.
C. How to stop hurricanes. D. Hurricane facts and safety tips.
