(25-26高二上·陕西渭南·期末)It was a cold March day in High Point, North Carolina. The girls on the Wesleyan Academy softball team were waiting for their next turns at bat during practice, stamping their feet to stay warm. Eighth-grader Taylor Bisbee shivered (发抖) a little as she watched her teammate Paris White play. The two didn’t know each other well — Taylor had just moved to town a month or so before.
Suddenly, Paris fell to the ground. “Paris’s eyes rolled back,” Taylor says. “She started shaking. I knew it was an emergency.”
It certainly was. Paris had suffered a sudden heart failure. Without immediate medical care, Paris would die. At first, no one moved. The girls were in shock. Then the softball coach shouted out,“Does anyone know CPR?”
CPR is a life-saving technique. To do CPR, you press on the sick person’s chest so that blood moves through the body and takes oxygen to organs. Without oxygen, the brain is damaged quickly.
Amazingly, Taylor had just taken a CPR course the day before. Still, she hesitated. She didn’t think she knew it well enough. But when no one else came forward, Taylor ran to Paris and began doing CPR. “It was scary. I knew it was the difference between life and death,” says Taylor.
Taylor’s swift action helped her teammates calm down. One girl called 911. Two more ran to get the school nurse, who brought a defibrillator, an electronic device that can shock the heart back into work. Luck stayed with them: Paris’s heartbeat returned.
“I know I was really lucky,” Paris says now. “Most people don’t survive this. My team saved my life.”
Experts say Paris is right: For a sudden heart failure, the single best chance for survival is having someone nearby step in and do CPR quickly.
Today, Paris is back on the softball team. Taylor will apply to college soon. She wants to be a nurse. “I feel more confident in my actions now,” Taylor says. “I know I can act under pressure in a scary situation.”
1.What happened to Paris during the softball practice?
A.She passed out while waiting to bat.
B.She fainted from cold and tiredness.
C.She got hurt in an unexpected collision.
D.She had a sudden life-threatening heart problem.
2.What’s the key to Paris’s survival?
A.The coach’s quick CPR reminder.
B.Taylor’s timely CPR and team’s help.
C.Paris’s good health and fast recovery.
D.The nurse’s professional emergency care.
3.What can we infer from Taylor’s experience?
A.She hesitated at first to act.
B.She built up crisis-solving ability.
C.She learned CPR the day before.
D.She answered the coach’s call.
4.Which of the following words can best describe Taylor?
A.Courageous and calm. B.Enthusiastic and kind.
C.Cooperative and generous. D.Ambitious and professional.

How to Provide First Aid for a Broken Bone
Broken bones are serious injuries that need immediate medical care. Sometimes, getting timely first aid from trained health professionals is not always possible. 1 .
Check the injured area.
If you’re in an emergency and there are no medical people around, quickly check how bad the injury is. If someone falls or has an accident and feels a lot of pain, they might have a broken bone.
2 . If you think the head, back, or pelvis (骨盆) is broken, don’t move the person. You need an X-ray to be certain. For arms, legs, fingers, toes, or noses, a broken bone usually looks bent or out of shape. 3
If you think the injury is serious and might be a broken bone, call 911 right away. Get an ambulance coming as fast as you can. First aid can help, but it’s not the same as having a doctor or nurse. If you’re near a hospital and you’re sure the injury isn’t life-threatening and is just in an arm or leg, you could drive the person there instead.
Keep calm and watch for signs of shock.
Breaking a bone is very painful. Fear, panic, and shock are all common reactions, but they can have negative consequences for the body, so they must be controlled. As you wait for help, cover the person to keep him warm and give him some water. 4 .
Keep the broken bone still.
After the injured person is stable, try to keep the broken bone still if you have to wait for help. This can reduce pain and protect the bone from more damage. 5 . Improperly moving broken bones can cause more harm. Splints (夹板) only work for arms and legs, not for bones in the pelvis or the body trunk.
A.Give first aid before the ambulance arrives.
B.Call for emergency help.
C.Therefore, knowing basic first aid for broken bones is important.
D.Keep talking to him to distract him from focusing on his injury.
E.the more severe the fracture (骨折) is, the more pain it causes.
F.Don’t try to fix the bone if you don’t know how.
G.But pain alone isn’t enough to be sure.

An Unsung Hero
Need a break between classes or just a quick pick-me-up in the morning? The College Cafe has just that, and more. 1
Catherine Murphy, a cafe worker in a green shirt and black hat, makes sure that each customer gets exactly what they order. She goes back and forth between machines to make the drinks. 2 As the customer grabs the drink from her hand, she smiles and says, “Hello, how is your day?” Even when the line is getting longer, she doesn’t let it get in the way of her genuine conversations.
Murphy gets up at a quarter to five and drives thirty minutes every day to get to work on time. 3 “I do so because I like to make coffee for the students. I know they need it in the morning,” Murphy said. Being a mother and wife has helped her become the woman she is. She believes she is here to serve.
One thing Murphy may not know is that her smile is contagious (有感染力) and can be the difference in a student having a much better day than they were having before seeing her. Joanna Wright, a senior political science major, loves coffee and goes to the cafe at least six days a week. 4 “Catherine always has a huge smile on her face, which always puts me in a cheerful mood,” Wright said.
“I enjoy working in the cafe,” Murphy said. 5 She has every intention of staying and continuing doing what she loves.
A.The cafe closes at 9 pm every day.
B.She has two children aged eight and four.
C.Sometimes she arrives early to serve the students early.
D.After finishing an order, she calls out the name on the cup.
E.Not only does this cafe serve up drinks, it also serves up smiles.
F.Going to the cafe starts her day off good and gets her ready for class.
G.She has served here for 17 years and can’t imagine working anywhere else.

根据第三段中“He had finished a meal and was leaving a restaurant when his friend asked him to stay a few minutes for the ocean view. This small delay proved to be fateful. (他刚吃完饭正要离开餐厅,这时他的朋友让他多待几分钟看看海景。这短暂的耽搁后来被证明是决定性的)”可知,是一位朋友建议他留下来看风景,直接导致了Chiu医生恰好在事发现场。故选C项。
4.主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段中“Suddenly, after taking another step or two, he collapsed (突然,又走了一两步后,他倒下了)”、第三段中“Seeing Pham fall, Dr. Chiu rushed over, recognized the emergency, and immediately began performing chest compressions. (看到Pham倒下,Chiu医生冲了过去,意识到情况紧急,立即开始进行胸外按压)”和最后一段中“It was the perfect timing — a friend’s casual suggestion, the surgeon’s delayed leave, and his immediate presence — that turned a near tragedy into a miraculous survival story. (正是这完美的时机——朋友随意的建议、外科医生延迟的离开以及他的即时出现——将一场近乎悲剧的事件变成了一个奇迹般的生还故事)”可知,文章主要讲述了一次发生在马拉松比赛中的及时救援。故B项“A Timely Rescue (一次及时的救援)”能概括文章内容,最适合做文章标题。故选B项。

【答案】1.D 2.B 3.B 4.A
根据第三段“Paris had suffered a sudden heart failure. Without immediate medical care, Paris would die.(Paris突发心力衰竭。如果不立即进行医疗救治,Paris就会死)”可知,Paris在训练中遭遇了危及生命的心脏问题。故选D项。
2.细节理解题。根据第六段“Taylor’s swift action helped her teammates calm down. One girl called 911. Two more ran to get the school nurse, who brought a defibrillator, an electronic device that can shock the heart back into work. Luck stayed with them: Paris’s heartbeat returned.(Taylor的迅速行动帮助队友们冷静下来。一个女孩拨打了911。又有两人跑去叫学校护士,护士带来了除颤器,这是一种可以电击心脏的电子设备,可以让心脏重新开始跳动。运气一直伴随着她们:Paris的心跳恢复了)”及第八段“Experts say Paris is right: For a sudden heart failure, the single best chance for survival is having someone nearby step in and do CPR quickly.(专家说,Paris是正确的:对于突发性心力衰竭,最好的生存机会就是让附近的人介入并快速进行心肺复苏)”可知,Taylor的及时施救和团队协助是Paris存活的关键。故选B项。
根据最后一段“I know I can act under pressure in a scary situation.(我知道在可怕的情况下,我可以在压力下采取行动)”可推知,Taylor通过这次经历建立了危机处理能力。故选B项。
根据第五段“Amazingly, Taylor had just taken a CPR course the day before. Still, she hesitated. She didn’t think she knew it well enough. But when no one else came forward, Taylor ran to Paris and began doing CPR.(令人惊讶的是,Taylor前一天刚刚参加了心肺复苏术课程。尽管如此,她还是犹豫了。她觉得自己还不够了解。但当没有其他人站出来时,Taylor跑向Paris,开始做心肺复苏术)”以及第六段“Taylor’s swift action helped her teammates calm down. One girl called 911. Two more ran to get the school nurse, who brought a defibrillator, an electronic device that can shock the heart back into work.
根据上文“Broken bones are serious injuries that need immediate medical care. Sometimes, getting timely first aid from trained health professionals is not always possible.(骨折是严重的损伤,需要立即接受医疗救治。有时,无法及时获得受过卫生专业训练人员的急救处理)”可知,第一段引出主题,前文提到有时候无法及时获得专业医护人员的急救,因此C选项“因此,了解骨折的基础急救知识十分重要”符合逻辑,衔接上文,引出下文具体方法。
2.根据上文“If you’re in an emergency and there are no medical people around, quickly check how bad the injury is. If someone falls or has an accident and feels a lot of pain, they might have a broken bone.(如果你遇到紧急情况,周围没有医护人员,请迅速检查伤情的严重程度。如果有人摔倒或发生意外后感到剧烈疼痛,可能已经骨折了)”以及后文“If you think the head, back, or pelvis (骨盆) is broken, don’t move the person. You need an X-ray to be certain. For arms, legs, fingers, toes, or noses, a broken bone usually looks bent or out of shape.(如果怀疑头部、背部或骨盆骨折,请不要移动伤者。必须通过X光检查才能确定。对于手臂、腿部、手指、脚趾或鼻子,骨折通常表现为弯曲或形状异常)”可知,前文提到受伤剧痛可能是骨折,后文提到需要X光才能确诊,G选项“但只凭疼痛无法确定骨折”承上启下,符合语境。
3.根据后文“If you think the injury is serious and might be a broken bone, call 911 right away. Get an ambulance coming as fast as you can. First aid can help, but it’s not the same as having a doctor or nurse. If you’re near a hospital and you’re sure the injury isn’t life-threatening and is just in an arm or leg, you could drive the person there instead.(如果你认为伤势严重,可能是骨折,请立即拨打911。尽快让救护车赶到现场。急救措施可以提供帮助,但无法替代医生或护士的治疗。如果你在医院附近,并且确定伤情不危及生命,只是手臂或腿部受伤,可以自行驾车送人去医院)”可知,空后整段内容围绕拨打急救电话、呼叫救护车送医展开,B选项“呼叫紧急救援”可作为该段的核心小标题,符合要求。
4.根据上文“Breaking a bone is very painful. Fear, panic, and shock are all common reactions, but they can have negative consequences for the body, so they must be controlled. As you wait for help, cover the person to keep him warm and give him some water.(骨折会非常疼痛。恐惧、惊慌和休克都是常见的反应,但这些反应可能对身体造成不良影响,因此必须加以控制。等待救援时,应为伤者盖上衣物以保暖,并给予少量饮水)”可知,该段讲解缓解休克恐慌,前文提到等待救援时要给伤者保暖、喂水,D选项“不断和伤者说话,帮他转移对伤势的注意力”符合缓解恐慌情绪的逻辑,衔接自然。
5.根据上文“After the injured person is stable, try to keep the broken bone still if you have to wait for help. This can reduce pain and protect the bone from more damage.(伤者情况稳定后,如果需要等待救援,请尽量保持骨折部位不动。这样可以减轻疼痛,并防止骨骼进一步受损)”以及后文“Improperly moving broken bones can cause more harm. Splints (夹板) only work for arms and legs, not for bones in the pelvis or the body trunk.(不当地移动骨折的骨头可能会造成更大的伤害。夹板仅适用于手臂和腿部,不适用于骨盆或躯干部位的骨骼)”可知,该段讲解保持骨折部位固定,后文提到不当移动会造成更多伤害,F选项“如果你不懂正确方法,不要尝试复位骨折”符合语境,衔接下文。

根据上文“Need a break between classes or just a quick pick-me-up in the morning? The College Cafe has just that, and more. (课间需要休息或早上快速提神?大学咖啡馆提供这些,还有更多。)”可知,开篇引出咖啡馆的功能,空格处需揭示“更多”的内涵。E选项“Not only does this cafe serve up drinks, it also serves up smiles. (这家咖啡馆不仅提供饮品,还提供微笑。)”通过“Not only...also...”
2.根据上文“She goes back and forth between machines to make the drinks. (她在机器之间来回制作饮品。)”及下文“As the customer grabs the drink from her hand, she smiles and says, “Hello, how is your day?” Even when the line is getting longer, she doesn’t let it get in the way of her genuine conversations. (当顾客从她手中接过饮品时,她微笑着说:“你好,今天过得怎么样?”即使队伍越来越长,她也不会让这影响到她真诚的交流。)”可推知,设空处需补充制作饮品后的环节。D选项“After finishing an order, she calls out the name on the cup. (完成订单后,她会喊出杯子上的名字。)”中的“finishing an order”衔接“make the drinks”,“calls out the name”引出顾客接饮品的场景,形成“制作—叫号—交付”的完整流程。故选D项。
3.根据上文“Murphy gets up at a quarter to five and drives thirty minutes every day to get to work on time. (墨菲每天四点四十五起床,开车三十分钟准时上班。)”及下文“I do so because I like to make coffee for the students. 4.根据上文“Joanna Wright, a senior political science major, loves coffee and goes to the cafe at least six days a week. (乔安娜・赖特是政治学专业的大四学生,她热爱咖啡,每周至少去这家咖啡馆六天。)”及下文““Catherine always has a huge smile on her face, which always puts me in a cheerful mood,” Wright said. (赖特说“凯瑟琳总是笑容满面,这总能让我心情愉快。”)”可推知,设空处需说明她频繁去咖啡馆的原因。F选项“Going to the cafe starts her day off good and gets her ready for class. (去咖啡馆让她一天有个好的开始,并为上课做好准备。)”中的“starts her day off good”解释了“每周去六天”的动机,且“cheerful mood”与墨菲的微笑服务形成因果关系。故选F项。
5.根据下文“She has every intention of staying and continuing doing what she loves. (她完全打算留下来,继续做自己喜欢的事。)”可推知,设空处需体现她对工作的长期投入。G选项“She has served here for 17 years and can’t imagine working anywhere else. (她已经在这里服务了17年,无法想象在其他地方工作。)”中的“17 years”凸显服务年限之长,“can’t imagine working anywhere else”强化对咖啡馆的情感联结,与“staying”形成直接呼应。故选G项。
