In my town people like to give smile cards to those who have received help. And the receivers continue to help others. With those cards, people enjoy helping and being helped.
I got some smile cards and used three of them just yesterday!
I used the first smile card when I was getting my dogs some food in a pet store. A man walked up to look at collars (项圈), looking puzzled. He asked me if I knew anything about dogs and collars, which actually I was quite familiar with. I helped him choose one. I hope it would work for his dog. When he said thanks, I handed him a smile card. He smiled and said he would help someone as soon as possible.
That was amazing! Then in a supermarket, when I was paying the bill, a grandma was trying to get her granddaughter out of a basket. I offered to help her, and she said “Yes, please.” Later she told me that she had just had an operation and couldn’t lift things very well. After getting the baby girl out, I handed her my second smile card.
Then I paid for someone’s food in a small restaurant and left behind the third smile card.
I felt very happy yesterday. It was great to help others and leave behind smile cards. I believe that more and more people will get happiness from receiving and giving smile cards.

C.People love to go around the town. D.People live a happy life.
C
When I was young, my mother was very much concerned for my happiness and was always there to support me. We had healthy boundaries (界限). When my own turn came for being a mother, I was determined to do so.
But as my daughter and I sat down to choose courses for the seventh grade, I felt the boundaries begin to fall. Students were allowed three electives (选修课) each term. Several of these were year-long courses—band, orchestra, yearbook and Spanish, and the rest were random (随机的) — technology education, drama, leadership and PE. I hated PE in my own school days.
We read the elective options carefully and sweet relief flooded through me. “You can sign up for band, yearbook and Spanish, and you won’t have to take PE ever,” I told her. I settled back into my chair, a weight taken off my chest. My daughter, however, frowned. “But I’m not sure I want to take Spanish. And I want to do the leadership class... and try drama!”
I broke in on her words with more practical wisdom. “You can’t pick the electives you want, though. They’re organized randomly. So you might get drama and leadership..., or you might get gym class or technology education. You might get the classes you want, and you might not. Is it worth risking having to take PE?” Finally, she chose to take the chance and signed up for band, yearbook and one period of the unknown elective. I reminded myself she was not me.
Watching your child walk into the trap of middle school is worse than experiencing it yourself. Motherhood, after all, is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. I am not going into the seventh grade again. It is my daughter’s turn. She is her own person, and while she is delicate and easily hurt, she is also stronger and more confident than I was.
28.What is the function of paragraph 1?
A.To present a fact. B.To provide an example.
C.To introduce the topic. D.To make a comparison.
29.Why did the author feel relaxed after reading the elective options?
A.Drama was her daughter’s favorite. B.Her daughter followed her advice.
C.There were many year-long courses. D.PE was optional for her daughter.
30.What did the author think of her daughter’s option?
A.It seemed organized. B.It was uncertain.
C.It was made at random. D.It sounded reasonable.
31.What does the author want to say in the last paragraph?
A.Motherhood is rewarding. B.Mothers should learn to let go.
C.Children should ask for help if necessary. D.Children are too young to make a decision.
D
When my son was little, he liked to run in our driveway until he fell. He would then turn to me to see if he was hurt. If my face betrayed worry or concern, he would cry. If I stayed calm, he would brush himself off and get back to running. Here was this human being who was counting on me to make sense of the world — not just how to tie his shoes or recite the ABCs, but how to feel.
Years later, in middle school, this lesson returned. One night, my son told me about a classmate who had been unkind to him. My first reaction was to rush to fix it — email the parents, call the school, demand action. But instead of reacting, I paused. “That sounds hard. What did you do?”
“I decided not to hang out with him for a while,” my son replied. “I am going to try playing soccer at lunch instead.” “That’s a great solution,” I said, and he went back to his homework.
These ordinary parenting moments taught me an important truth: sometimes, the best thing a parent can do is doing nothing at all. Over 30 years in schools, too often I’ve watched parents overreacting, robbing their kids of the confidence that comes from struggling, and exhausting themselves in the process. Most Americans now believe that young people will not be better off than their parents. They see greater competition for fewer resources — be it college admissions, jobs, or housing. However, a young person who gets used to having a parent intervene on his behalf begins to believe that he’s not capable of acting on his own, feeling both anxiety and dependence.
I want to make a case for the Lighthouse Parent, a term that the educator has used. A lighthouse parent stands as a steady, reliable guide, providing safety and understanding without controlling every aspect of their child’s journey, like a lighthouse that helps sailors avoid crashing into rocks. The key is learning when to step back and enable them to find their own way.
32.What does the author want to tell with the example of his child falling?
A.Children should be prevented from taking risks.
B.Parents can feel exactly what their children feel.
C.Parents’ reaction influences children’s mental state.
D.Children would cry regardless of parental guidance.
33.What does the underlined word “intervene” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Step in. B.Move on.
C.Speak up. D.Take off.
34.What kind of parent is the author?
A.Distant. B.Traditional.
C.Supportive. D.Overprotective.
35.What would Lighthouse Parents do when children are anxious about a school presentation?
A.Complete the task for the child.
B.Contact and criticize the teacher.
C.Ask the child to report every step.
D.Guide the child while letting them act.

根据第一段“When I was young, my mother was very much concerned for my happiness and was always there to support me. We had healthy boundaries (界限). When my own turn came for being a mother, I was determined to do so.(当我小的时候,我的母亲非常关心我的幸福,总是在那里支持我。我们有健康的界限。当轮到我做母亲的时候,我下定决心要这样做)”可知,作者提到小时妈妈对她的这种关心和支持以及后来作者做妈妈之后的亲子处理方式,引入本文的话题,故选C。
29.细节理解题。根据第三段“We read the elective options carefully and sweet relief flooded through me. “You can sign up for band, yearbook and Spanish, and you won’t have to take PE ever,” I told her.(我们仔细阅读选修课,甜蜜的宽慰溢于言表。“你可以报名参加乐队、年鉴和西班牙语课,而且你永远都不用上体育课,”我告诉她)”可知,作者认为是否选择体育课对她女儿来说是自由的,不是必选性,故选D。
30.推理判断题。根据第四段“You might get the classes you want, and you might not. Is it worth risking having to take PE?(你可能会得到你想要的课程,也可能不会。值得冒险去上体育课吗?)”可知,作者认为女儿的选择是冒险的,具有不确定性,故选B。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段“I am not going into the seventh grade again. It is my daughter’s turn. She is her own person, and while she is delicate and easily hurt, she is also stronger and more confident than I was.(我不会再上七年级了。轮到我女儿了。她是她自己的人,虽然她很脆弱,很容易受伤,但她也比我更坚强,更自信)”可知,作为母亲,我们要学会放手,故选B。
【答案】32.C 33.A 34.C 35.D
【导语】这是一篇议论文。作者通过自身育儿经历,提出了“灯塔式父母”的教育理念,主张父母应成为可靠的引导者,而非过度干预孩子的成长,以此培养孩子的独立性。
【详解】32.细节理解题。根据第一段“If my face betrayed worry or concern, he would cry. If I stayed calm, he would brush himself off and get back to running. (如果我的脸上流露出担忧,他就会哭。如果我保持冷静,他就会自己爬起来继续跑)”可知,孩子的反应会随作者的情绪而变化,这说明父母的反应会影响孩子的心理状态。故选C。
33.词句猜测题。根据第四段“Over 30 years in schools, too often I’ve watched parents overreacting, robbing their kids of the confidence that comes from struggling, and exhausting themselves in the process. (在教育领域工作了三十多年后,我常常看到家长们反应过度,剥夺了孩子在努力过程中所应获得的自信,还让自己在过程中精疲力竭)”及“However, a young person who gets used to having a parent intervene on his behalf begins to believe that he’s not capable of acting on his own, feeling both anxiety and dependence. The other day, I suddenly noticed that wrinkles were creeping around her eye corners and her hair was also turning gray. It occurred to me that it's time that I did something to repay her love and sacrifice. I knew that she was always occupied with household chores on weekends, so I cleaned up the room and did the laundry. Then, I even cooked a special dinner for her. As the talent show day came, Jim felt his heart beating fast backstage. He held his guitar tightly, worrying he might forget the notes. Just then, Mrs. Green walked over and patted his shoulder gently, saying, “Take it easy, Jim. I believe in you. ” When his name was called, Jim took a deep breath and walked onto the stage. The audience was quiet. He sat down, put his fingers on the strings, and started playing. Soon, the sweet music filled the hall.
After the performance, Jim walked off the stage with a big smile. Many classmates came over to praise him, saying his playing was wonderful. A boy named Mike even asked if he could teach him to play the guitar. Jim nodded happily. That day, he made his first friend in high school. He realized that Mrs. Green was right — showing his talent could help him connect with others. From then on, Jim became more confident and open. He started talking to his classmates and even joined the school music club, where he found more friends who shared his passion for music.
