Cai Dongjun raised one hand gently, humming the opening notes of a melody (曲子) as sunlight streamed into a rural classroom. The children watched and followed — a small turn, a lifted arm, singing at first quietly, then with growing confidence. Cai, a 22-year-old singing performance major at the Communication University of China (CUC), started the project called Shengyu Tongxin, or Voices Healing Young Hearts, in 2022. He was inspired by his own childhood experiences of self-doubt, which he overcame through music.
“Not every child receives quality education or emotional support,” he said. “Some come from difficult families, and you can sometimes sense a kind of silence in them.” The project helps children who have limited access to arts education. Over the past four years, Cai and his fellow volunteers have traveled to 18 regions, worked with more than 40 rural schools, and reached over 1,500 left-behind children.
To make it easier for children with different abilities, the team focuses on self-expression and the joy of being on stage. The goal is often reflected in small but meaningful changes. In Huozhou, Shanxi province, the team worked with a boy whose teacher described him as uninterested and struggling. The volunteers encouraged him to be a group leader in the chorus. Over time, he became more active and showed a stronger sense of responsibility. At the final performance, he acted as one of the main characters with confidence.
For Cai, moments like these make the work worthwhile. “There were times when I felt completely exhausted,” he said. “But all the effort has proved deeply rewarding.” From the project, Cai learns to adjust his approach based on each child’s needs. “Sometimes what they need is not pressure, but time and support,” he said.
4.What was the main reason for Cai Dongjun to start the project?
A.Invitation from his school.
B.Inspiration from the rural kids.
C.His former voluntary work.
D.His early life struggles.

C.He gained confidence.
D.He became more competitive.
6.What can we infer from Cai’s words in the last paragraph?
A.He was completely tired of the project.
B.Pressure should be avoided.
C.Children should put more efforts.
D.Time and support outweigh pressure.
7.What message does the story mainly convey?
A.Music matters more than other subjects.
B.Art brings confidence and joy to needy children.
C.Talented students should volunteer to help.
D.Volunteers need more professional training.

Exactly in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean lies Henderson Island. It is thousands of miles away from the nearest city. Only a few people have ever made the trip by ship to set foot on it; usually only scientists do research there. Knowing this, you may think Henderson Island ought to be one of the most pristine (处于原始状态的) places on this planet. The sad reality, however, is that Henderson Island has the highest density (密度) of plastic trash ever reported in nature.
According to lead author Jennifer Lavers from the University of Tasmania, huge quantities of plastic waste in all shapes and sizes have been washed up over the years on Henderson Island. Every day, thousands of new tiny bits of plastic are thrown by tides on the white-sand beaches of the island. Lavers and her teammates lived on Henderson Island and documented all of the man-made trash there. The data suggests there are over 37,661, 395 pieces of anthropogenic (人类活动产生的) trash which amount to 17.6 tons of plastic waste. “This, however, represents only ‘1.98 seconds’ worth of the annual global production of plastic,” the researchers wrote in their report.
The data is really worrying and scary. The report shows that there’s no escaping human influence even in the most distant places on Earth. The ocean, like the land and atmosphere, is a merged environment, which is why trash from San Francisco can be finally found on a distant island such as Henderson Island. According to the researchers, there may be 5 trillion pieces of plastic traveling around the world’ oceans. These are washed upon shores across the planet where they litter and pollute the environment Animals eat these plastics, causing themselves to suffer or die. Finally, humans can end up taking in these plastics too since we’re at the top of the food chain.
Most of the items found on Henderson Island were largely disposable or single-use; things like cigarette lighters, toothbrushes, etc. All of this trash is harmful to the island’s unique ecology, which includes ten kinds of native plants and four bird species.
So, who’s to blame? Everyone basically. The paper doesn’t clearly say this, but all the plastic trash on Henderson Island comes from all over the world.
8.What did Jennifer Lavers’ team mainly do on Henderson Island?
A.They carefully removed the plastic trash from the island.
B.They took measures to protect native plants and animals.
C.They observed how the plastic trash there affected local wildlife.
D.They collected and analyzed information about plastic pollution
9.What does the underlined word “merged” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Combined. B.Reserved. C.Expanded. D.Crowded.
10.What does the case of Henderson Island show?
A.Disposable plastic items should be got rid of.
B.Plastic trash is affecting the environment globally.
C.The natural ecosystem has become extremely delicate.
D.Remoteness protects islands from human intervention.
11.What would be the best title for the text?
A.Plastic Trash Is Taking over the Planet
B.Plants and Birds on Henderson Island Are Endangered
C.The Ocean Has Become a Gathering Place for Plastic Trash
D.A Distant Island Is the Most Plastic-littered Place on Earth
【答案】8.D 9.A 10.B 11.D

根据第三段“The report shows that there’s no escaping human influence even in the most distant places on Earth. The ocean, like the land and atmosphere, is a merged environment, which is why trash from San Francisco can be finally found on a distant island such as Henderson Island.(报告显示,即使在地球上最偏远的地区,也无法摆脱人类活动的影响。海洋与陆地、大气一样,是一个merged的环境,这就是为什么来自旧金山的垃圾,最终会出现在亨德森岛这样偏远的岛屿上。)”可知,这里讲地球没有一个角落不受人类活动影响,即世界是一个融合的环境,所以猜测merged意为“融合的、联合的”,与combined同义。故选A项。
根据第三段“The data is really worrying and scary. The report shows that there’s no escaping human influence even in the most distant places on Earth.(这些数据令人担忧和恐惧。报告显示,即使在地球上最偏远的地区,也无法摆脱人类活动的影响。)”可知,亨德森岛的案例说明塑料垃圾正在全球范围内影响环境。故选B项。
11.主旨大意题。通读全文特别是根据第一段“The sad reality, however, is that Henderson Island has the highest density (密度) of plastic trash ever reported in nature.(然而令人痛心的现实是,亨德森岛拥有自然界有记录以来密度最高的塑料垃圾。)”

Researchers have long been interested in how humans and animals make decisions by focusing on trial-and-error behavior informed by recent information. However, the conventional frameworks for understanding these behaviors may overlook certain realities of decision-making because they assume we make the best decisions after taking into account our past experiences.
One new study uses AI in innovative ways to better understand this process. By using tiny artificial neural networks, the researchers’ work illuminates in detail what drives an individual’s actual choices.
“Instead of assuming how brains should learn in bettering our decisions, we developed an alternative approach to discover how individual brains actually learn to make decisions,” explains Mattar, a professor in New York University. “This approach functions like a detective, uncovering how decisions are actually made by animals and humans. By using tiny neural networks — small enough to be understood but powerful enough to catch complex behavior — we’ve discovered decision-making strategies that scientists have overlooked for decades.”
“Large neural networks used in AI are very good at predicting things,” says Benna, a professor at UC San Diego’s School. “For example, they can predict which movie you would like to watch next. However, it is very challenging to describe simply what strategies these complex machine learning models use to make their predictions — such as why they think you will like one movie more than another one. By training the simplest versions of these AI models to predict animals’ choices and analyzing their dynamics using methods from physics, we can throw light on their inner workings in more easily understandable terms.”
Understanding how animals and humans learn from experience to make decisions is not only a primary goal in the sciences, but, more broadly, useful in the fields of business, government, and technology. However, existing models of this process, because they are aimed at describing optimal (最佳的) decision-making, often fail to get realistic behavior.
“Just as studying individual differences in physical characteristics has revolutionized medicine, understanding individual differences in decision-making strategies could transform our approach to mental health and cognitive function,” concludes Mattar.
12.What can be inferred about traditional decision-making models?
A.They are consistent with real-life decision behavior.
B.They pay much attention to individual differences.
C.They tend to ignore choices that are not the best ones.
D.They draw on AI-based methods in decision making.
13.What is special about the new study?
A.Using tiny neural networks. B.Analyzing past experiences.
C.Predicting movie preferences. D.Revisiting conventional frameworks.
14.What does Benna mean concerning large neural networks?
A.They lack predictive accuracy. B.Their strategies are hard to interpret.
C.They outperform tiny networks in research. D.They revolutionize decision-making studies.
15.What is Mattar’s attitude towards the new research?
A.Cautiously skeptical. B.Indifferently neutral.
C.Strongly supportive. D.Mildly critical.
【答案】12.C 13.A 14.B 15.C

根据第三段“By using tiny neural networks — small enough to be understood but powerful enough to catch complex behavior — we’ve discovered decision-making strategies that scientists have overlooked for decades.(通过使用微小的神经网络——体积足够小,便于理解,但强大到能够捕捉复杂行为——我们发现了一些科学家几十年来忽视的决策策略)”可知,这项新研究的特别之处在于使用了微型神经网络。
根据第四段““Large neural networks used in AI are very good at predicting things,” says Benna, a professor at UC San Diego’s School.(“人工智能中使用的大型神经网络在预测方面非常出色,”加州大学圣地亚哥分校的教授贝纳表示)”及“However, it is very challenging to describe simply what strategies these complex machine learning models use to make their predictions —— such as why they think you will like one movie more than another one.(然而,要简单描述这些复杂的机器学习模型在做出预测时所采用的策略——例如它们为何认为你更喜欢某部电影而不是另一部电影——是非常困难的)”可推知,Benna认为大型神经网络的策略难以解释。
15.
根据最后一段““Just as studying individual differences in physical characteristics has revolutionized medicine, understanding individual differences in decision-making strategies could transform our approach to mental health and cognitive function,” concludes Mattar.(“正如研究个体在身体特征上的差异已彻底改变了医学,理解个体在决策策略上的差异也可能彻底改变我们对心理健康和认知功能的处理方式,”马塔尔总结道)”可知,Mattar将这项研究比作改变医学的个体化研究,并对其潜在影响给予高度评价,表明他对新研究持强烈支持态度。

A. picnic野餐;B. dining用餐;C. friendship友谊;D. negotiation谈判。根据前文“She was hospitable (好客的) and tried to ________with neighbors by hosting Bible studies and playgroups — only to find them requiring far more planning than expected.”
A. removes移除;B. faces面对;C. misses错过;D. makes成为。根据后文中的“a perfect spot when people naturally gather”可知,有人聚集的地方就会成为绝佳场所。
A. warns警告;B. reminds提醒;C. promises承诺;D. orders命令。
A Journey Back to Each Other
Inspired by my daughter’s tales of backpacking adventures and my desire to hang out with my youngest son outside the house, I booked two tickets to Shanghai for the September school holidays, surprising us both. We, 36 (arm) with a budget, some travel insurance, and a rough plan built around some last-minute internet searches, headed to the airport.
We arrived in Shanghai, sleepy and excited, at 5: 30 a.m. Despite the early start, the air was already hot and soupy, 37 my son used as an excuse to head straight for a convenience store and buy one of the many drinks he 38 (remember) from all those years before. There is something very freeing about arriving in a place where you have no plans. And we didn’t.
I discovered that he could find his way 39 remembering landmarks. Within a day he’d become 40 navigator, and I was the lost one, following behind. As tourists, we were exposed to everything together, giving us back a connection we don’t always have in our daily lives.
He was the one who said we should hire bikes. He was the one who showed me how to speed up and led me through the streets downtown, laughing 41 I screamed in delight. He dragged me shopping for jeans in stores and made me catch buses 42 (take) us in the wrong direction entirely. He was just as likely as I was 43 (know) what train to catch, or find the right street to turn down, or stand in awe at the foot of a giant temple, or queue for hours for a steaming bowl of Xiaolongbao.
I saw him differently in Shanghai. Travelling meant we were more like 44 (equal) — partners in adventure. And instead of missing the child version of him, I saw the adult he 45 (become).
36.armed 37.which 38.had remembered 39.by 40.the 41.as/when 42.taking 43.to know 44.equals 45.was becoming
by doing sth.
的时候”,as和when均可。
be likely to do sth.

Robert raised his son alone after his wife passed away. He worked day and night to support the family, enduring countless hardships.
Years later, his son Kevin became a successful businessman, but Robert grew old and frail. Every time he sat at the dining table, his wrinkled hands could hardly hold the spoon steadily. Unavoidably, he would spill soup all over the clean tablecloth or let it drip from his mouth, which made the atmosphere awkward every meal.
Kevin and his wife, Iris, were extremely angry with Robert’s clumsiness. They thought the old man was a burden and even an embarrassment to the family. Finally, they forced the poor grandfather to sit alone in a cold corner behind the stove, far away from the warm light. They served his meals in a rough earthenware (陶制的) bowl, far from enough to fill his stomach. The lonely old man would stare sadly at the warm dining table, his eyes brimming with helpless tears and quiet sorrow.
One day, his trembling hands slipped again. The earthenware bowl crashed to the ground and broke into pieces with a loud noise. The young wife flew into a rage and scolded Robert harshly, her words sharp and hurtful, without a trace of sympathy. Robert said not a word, only letting out a long, sad sigh. How he missed the old days with his lovely son! Later, Kevin and Iris bought a cheap wooden bowl for a few pennies, and from then on, Robert had to eat from this rough bowl day after day.
On Christmas Eve, as the family sat at the table enjoying their dinner with Robert sitting alone in the corner, their four-year-old little grandson quietly gathered some small pieces of wood on the floor, focused on his little “project”. Curious, the father asked, “What are you busy doing there, my boy?” The child looked up innocently and replied, “I’m making a little trough (槽). When I grow up, you and Mom can eat from it.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Kevin and his wife looked at each other with shame.

Iris helped the old man to the dining table.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Kevin and his wife looked at each other with shame. Stung by their son’s innocent words, they froze, cheeks burning with deep remorse. Glancing at the rough wooden bowl by the stove, Kevin remembered his father slaving day and night to raise him alone decades ago. A lump rising in his throat, he walked slowly to the lonely old man. Dim Christmas light streamed through the frosted window, wrapping the cold corner in faint gloom. “Dad, we’re terribly sorry for our cruelty,” he murmured, voice shaky with guilt.
Iris helped the old man to the dining table. Fetching a fine porcelain bowl, she filled it with warm soup and soft food, moving cautiously to avoid spilling. Seated beside the warm fire, Robert sipped the meal, happy tears sliding down his wrinkled face. Witnessing this tender moment, Kevin grasped a truth: the way in which we respect the elderly shapes our kids, and filial love is the most valuable gift that we leave to later generations.

5.Which of the following best describes the boy from Huozhou after joining the project?
A.He lacked interest.
B.He became a volunteer.

D

The kitchen has always been the warmest corner of my home, filled with unforgettable stories. When I fell ill or felt weak, my mother always cooked for me. She took great trouble to cook warm soup, steam soft porridge and prepare light side dishes patiently. 16
At that time, however, I was too young to understand it. 17 Sometimes I even complained that the soup and side dishes were too plain and refused what I disliked. I never realized that those simple meals would one day mean so much to me.
Last year, I lost my mother. As I cooked dinner alone on Mother’s Day, I suddenly realized meals were not just for filling stomachs. 18 I thought about the unique warmth and care my mother put into everything she cooked. Each dish told a story, and each dish held the power to heal (治愈).
Nowadays, fewer people take time to cook with their own hands. Fast-developing technology has greatly changed our way of eating. Intelligent devices and takeout services make meal preparation extremely convenient. 19 Machine-made meals only provide physical energy, while home-cooked meals nourish our hearts and warm our whole lives.
20 Stick to home cooking, keep family food traditions and hold onto the smoke and fire of life in our families. As a carrier of family affection and a bridge of emotional connection, it can never be replaced by technology.
A.So let food remain human.
B.They were sources of memories.
C.Cooking involves complicated steps.
D.All I cared about was the delicious taste.
E.She poured her love into every bite of food.
F.Many people choose takeout to save cooking time.
G.But they can never recreate the sincere emotions behind food.

1.续写词数应为150左右;
