As Daddy’s only daughter, I knew what made my daddy more wonderful than all the other fathers—his large hands.
Daddy had long smart fingers (手指) that could make lots of paper toys for me . His hands could paint a second-hand bike to make it look new. I got one on my tenth birthday. His hands could also cook a delicious meal in minutes.
Daddy’s creative hands were also useful and hard-working. They could fly a kite high in the sky as well as get it down from the top of a tree. They could also wash my white dress clean. To my surprise, those hands fed three children after Mum died. It was his feelings that showed who he really was, far more than his abilities.
Not only were Daddy’s hands great, they could also send me a note full of love. When I was sick, he would take a small blanket (毯子) and cover it around my small cold feet with his loving hands. They seemed to understand I was feeling terrible before I could cry. When I was stressed out (焦虑的), Daddy would often hand me a cup of hot milk and sit next to me. He would say, “The best is always to come, my dear.”
The more I read Daddy’s hands, the more stories I got from them. Daddy’s hands were fantastic. They had the power to move mountains and they could make the impossible (不可能的) possible.
21. Why did Daddy paint a second-hand bike?
A. Because he liked painting very much.
B. Because he wanted to buy a new bike.
C. Because he wanted to make it look new as a present.
D. Because his daughter didn’t like the colour of the bike.
22. What things did Daddy’s useful and hard-working hands do according to the passage?

③Washing my white dress clean. ④Feeding three children with Mum.
A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ①③④ D. ②③④
23. Which words can best describe the writer’s father?
A. Smart and lucky. B. Loving and famous.

C. Daddy once helped move mountains with his great power.
D. Daddy’s hands could do magic like moving mountains.
25. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

The Chinese knot (中国结) is a knot that is woven (编织) from a single rope into different shapes. Each shape has its own meaning. Now you can see it as a decoration or a gift for friends. People can use ropes of different colors to weave a Chinese knot, but they usually choose red because it means good luck and it’s a symbol of joyful culture in China.
The Chinese knot has a long history. People might have originally made them to record information and send messages before they started to use words. It is well-known that the knots were used for decoration and expressing thoughts and feelings in the Tang Dynasty. They were later popular in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. But it was not until the Qing Dynasty that this art became really accepted (接受) by the common people.
Even today, Chinese knots hold emotional value when gifted or passed down through families. For example, lovers may give a knot to show their love. The “double happiness knot” is given and used at weddings to express each other’s love and wishes for growing old together.
In addition, knots are also used when people make traditional clothes in China. They can work as buttons (纽扣) and now silk is widely used to make these clothing knots.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I’d like to share my unforgettable labour experience at home with you.
Last Sunday, my parents were very busy, so I decided to do some housework. First, I packed up my things and made the bed carefully. Then, I swept the floor. Although I felt a little tired, I was very happy when I saw the clean and tidy rooms.
Through this experience, I realize that doing housework is not only a duty but also a good way to relax. More labour, more fun! I will do more labour in the future.
Best wishes!
