Generally speaking; exposure; from different angles. 故填where。 17. 这里考查from...through“从... 故填from。 18. 故填a。 21. 故填while。 24. 由文章第一段“I didn’t want to involve my mother because she was going through a nasty divorce, and I wanted to protect her from more stress.(我不想让我母亲卷入其中,因为她正在经历一场糟糕的离婚,我想保护她免受更多的压力。)” 由文章第一段“I didn’t want to involve my mother because she was going through a nasty divorce, and I wanted to protect her from more stress.(我不想让我母亲卷入其中,因为她正在经历一场糟糕的离婚,我想保护她免受更多的压力。)”可知,作者是一个充满关心的人;再从最后一段“I want to clarify that I am not proud to have put two kids in the hospital. What I did was uncontrolled and a bit of an overkill, but it was an unplanned reaction. I am, however, proud to have been the first and only to stand up to these two older boys.(我想澄清一下,我并不为把两个大孩子送进医院而感到自豪。 由第四段“Because they had started it, I got no punishment or detention. Teachers were mostly shocked. I think the two boys were also quite embarrassed that a 10-year-old girl had won so they didn’t want to bring too much attention to the fact. But it was too late, dozens of students had seen it (none of which had been willing to defend a younger student from two bullies).(因为他们已经开始这件事的,我没有受到惩罚或拘留。 由文章最后一段“The best part was that because those two had beaten most of my bullies, my bullies were scared of me, and I was never picked on again. It also taught me that bullying is wrong, but defending yourself is good. I want to clarify that I am not proud to have put two kids in the hospital. What I did was uncontrolled and a bit of an overkill, but it was an unplanned reaction. I am, however, proud to have been the first and only to stand up to these two older boys.(最棒的是,因为这两个人打败过我的大多数欺负者,我的欺负者都害怕我,我再也没有被欺负过。 Where there’s oppression there’s resistance.(哪里有压迫,哪里就有反抗。) 16. B. Individual action matters 解析:空格后 “though you can’t save California on your own”(尽管你无法独自拯救加州)与 B 选项 “个人行动很重要” 形成转折,强调个人节水行为的意义,且后文 “Small things can add up” 也呼应 “个人行动” 的主题。 17. G. Only run washing machines and dishwashers when you have a full load 解析:该段围绕 “小行动累加” 展开,G 选项 “仅在洗衣机和洗碗机满载时运行” 属于具体节水措施,与前一句 “Don’t let the water running...”(避免水龙头长流水)并列,都是日常节水习惯。 18. D. They can save a lot per household per day 解析:前文对比新旧马桶的用水量,D 选项 “它们(新设备)每天能为每个家庭节省大量用水” 承接上文,说明更换旧家电的节水效果,“They” 指代 “Newer toilets”。 19. C. Find out the potential problem 前一句 “If it creeps higher... investigate whether you have a leak”(若水费异常升高,调查是否漏水)属于 “发现潜在问题” 的行为,C 选项 “找出潜在问题” 直接概括了段落主旨。 20. F. You may also use a smart detector to tell you once there’s a problem 解析:空格前介绍通过水表监测漏水,F 选项 “也可使用智能检测器发现问题” 是对前文的补充,“also” 体现递进关系,且 “smart detector” 与 “water meter” 形成技术层面的呼应。 1. 获得资格 ___________________ 2. 实现抱负___________________ 3. 参加……___________________ 4. 专注于;从事___________________ 5 参与;涉及___________________ 6. 激励某人___________________ 【答案】 1. qualify for sth. / qualify as sth. 2. fulfill / realize one’s ambition 3. participate in 4. be engaged in 5. be involved in 6. motivate sb. / be motivated to do sth. 1. They would insult kick, and push me down the stairs. Teachers did nothing as the other kids were “paying customers” but I was not. I didn’t want to involve my mother because she was going through a nasty divorce, and I wanted to protect her from more stress. Then, this day came. These two kids were infamous (臭名昭著) for bullying anything that moved. Younger kids, mostly, as they were cowards. They had never bothered me before that day but had beaten several of my friends and classmates. But one day, as they started bothering my friends and me, I told them to go away. Their eyes lit up as they approached to beat me, and then they made a foolish mistake: they insulted my mother. I just jumped on them, and it wasn’t pretty though. At some point, I got my ribs bruised by knee kicks by one of them while the other held me. I couldn’t breathe. However, they ended up worse. One had a broken nose and a black eye and was all scratched up with deep scratches. The other had three broken finger. I also trapped his head on my arm and punched him in the head hard that I had bruises on my hands, but he had a big black bruise on the side of his head for a week. I also remember kicking one in the stomach when they were on the floor until two teachers arrived and held me. Because they had started it, I got no punishment or detention. Teachers were mostly shocked. I think the two boys were also quite embarrassed that a 10-year-old girl had won so they didn’t want to bring too much attention to the fact. But it was too late, dozens of students had seen it (none of which had been willing to defend a younger student from two bullies). The word got around the school. From that moment on, these two did not bother a single soul and kept a very low profile, and they would walk away the moment they saw me. The best part was that because those two had beaten most of my bullies, my bullies were scared of me, and I was never picked on again. It also taught me that bullying is wrong, but defending yourself is good. I want to clarify that I am not proud to have put two kids in the hospital. What I did was uncontrolled and a bit of an overkill, but it was an unplanned reaction. I am, however, proud to have been the first and only to stand up to these two older boys. 1.Why did the author refuse to fight back at first? A.Because she was not strong enough to fight back. B.Because she didn’t want to let her mother upset. C.Because she was afraid of being lectured by teachers. D.Because she didn’t treat the bullies seriously enough. 2.Which kind of girl is the author according to the passage? A.Aggressive but Stubborn. B.Caring and Dignified. C.Weak and Selfish. D.Ambitious and Smart. 3.What did the underlined sentence in the paragraph 4 imply? A.Most students and teachers disagreed with the author. B.The two bullies were sympathized with by the school. C.The struggles of the author were totally nothing but in vain. D.Many students and teachers knew the author’s fighting back. 4.What message does this article mainly convey? 30.Why did the author refuse to fight back at first? A.Because she was not strong enough to fight back.
