On March 28, 2026, history was made in Portimão, Portugal. French rider Valentin Debise crossed the finish line on a Chinese motorcycle called ZXMOTO 820RR-RS. He won the race with a lead of nearly 4 seconds! This was a historic moment because it was the first time a Chinese motorcycle brand had ever won at the World Superbike Championship.
The man behind this victory is Zhang Xue. His story is like a real-life racing movie. Born in a small village in Hunan Province in 1987, Zhang Xue had a difficult childhood. He was so poor that he had to drop out of school at age 14. He became a motorcycle repair apprentice, sleeping in a small room above the repair shop. His hands were always covered in oil, but his heart was full of dreams.
At 19, Zhang saw a TV program about motorcycle racing. He was so excited that he rode 100 kilometers in heavy rain to catch up with the TV crew, just to ask for a chance to work in racing. People laughed at him, but he didn’t give up.
For the next 20 years, Zhang worked day and night. He taught himself engineering and design. In 2024, he started his own company, naming it “ZXMOTO” after himself. Many people thought he was crazy to compete with big international brands like Yamaha and Ducati.
But Zhang believed in himself. “When my effort is ten times that of my opponents, why shouldn’t I win?” he often said.
When the race ended in Portugal, Zhang was watching the live broadcast in Chongqing, China. He jumped up, waved the national flag, and burst into tears. “We’ve done it!” he shouted. “This is not just my dream. It’s a win for Chinese manufacturing!” The ZXMOTO motorcycle that won the race was completely designed and built in China. It proved that “Made in China” can be the best in the world.
23.How does the writer begin the story?
A.By asking the readers a question. B.By describing a historic racing event.
C.By introducing Zhang Xue’s childhood. D.By introducing the “World Superbike Championship”.
24.Which is the correct order of the following events in Zhang Xue’s life?
a. He dropped out of school and became a repair apprentice.
b. He started his own company named “ZXMOTO” in 2024.
c. He rode 100 kilometers in heavy rain to catch up with a TV crew.
d. A French rider won the WSBK race on a ZXMOTO motorcycle.
A.a→b→c→d B.b→a→c→d C.a→c→b→d D.c→a→b→d
25.What does the writer mean by saying “His story is like a real-life racing movie.”?
A.It means Zhang Xue worked as an actor in racing movies.
B.It means his life is encouraging like exciting movie plots.
C.It means his story has been made into a racing movie.
D.It means he enjoys watching racing movies every day.
26.What can we learn from Zhang Xue’s experience?
A.Hard work helps people achieve success from any starting point.
B.A rich family background leads to success in business every time.
C.Dropping out of school helps students learn practical skills.
D.Winning world championships depends mainly on luck and chance.
D
You might be surprised to know that 30% to 45% of English words come from French. Why is that? Let’s go back to the year 1066. That year, Norman armies from northern France took over Britain. The Normans spoke French, and after they took control, French became the language of England’s rulers (统治者) and rich people. This went on for over 300 years. During this time, most ordinary people in England still spoke English.
As the years passed, English and French mixed together, and many French words became part of English. Some researchers say about 10,000 French words finally entered English. But here’s a funny thing: even though English borrowed these words, their meanings often changed. If you use these words the wrong way, you might end up in silly or confusing (令人困惑的) situations.
Take the word “college” for example. In English, we often use “college” to mean “university” or a school inside a university. But in French, “collège” actually means “a junior high school” — the school for students who are around 10 to 14 years old.
There are many more such words. In English, “chat” means “to talk casually (随意地) with someone”, like chatting with friends after class. But in French, “chat” (pronounced “shah”) is the word for a cat — the furry animal that chases mice!
Another example is “jolly”. If an English speaker says “He’s jolly”, it means the person is cheerful and friendly. But in French, “jolie” (with an “ie” at the end) describes someone who is good-looking. Luckily, both meanings are nice — so whether you call someone “jolly” or “jolie”, it’s a kind thing to say!
For English learners, it’s of great importance to pay extra attention to these borrowed words, as their meanings often differ from their original French forms — this way, you can avoid misunderstandings and use them correctly in daily communication.
27.Why did many French words enter the English language?
A.Because Normans brought French to Britain. B.Because French books were popular in England.
C.Because English people travelled to France often. D.Because French was easier to learn than English.
28.What does an Englishman mean if he says he’d like to have a chat?
A.He wants a kind of pet. B.He wants to have a small talk.
C.He prefers to talk in public. D.He’d like to have an interview.
29.Which is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
30.What is the best title of the passage?
A.Development of English. B.Difficulties in learning English.
C.French words in English. D.Ways to speak English and French.

Great changes have taken place in our lives in the last century. Here are some examples.

【答案】23.B 24.C 25.B 26.A
【导语】本文讲述了张雪从贫困学徒到创立“张雪机车”品牌,并在2026年世锦赛夺冠的励志故事,体现了坚持与热爱能创造奇迹。
【详解】23.根据文章第一段“On March 28, 2026, history was made in Portimão, Portugal. French rider Valentin Debise crossed the finish line... He won the race...”可知,作者通过描述一场历史性的赛车比赛事件来开启故事,以此引出主人公张雪。
24.根据第二段“drop out of school at age 14. He became a motorcycle repair apprentice,”可知,事件a(他辍学后成为了一名维修学徒)最早;根据第三段“At 19, Zhang saw a TV program about motorcycle racing. He was so excited that he rode 100 kilometers in heavy rain to”可知,事件c(他冒着大雨骑了100公里,只为赶上电视摄制组。)其次;根据第四段“In 2024, he started his own company, naming it ‘ZXMOTO’ after himself.”可知,事件b(他于2024年创办了自己的公司,名为“张雪机车”。)再次;根据第一段“On March 28, 2026, history was made in Portimão, Portugal. French rider Valentin Debise crossed the finish line on a Chinese motorcycle called ZXMOTO 820RR-RS. He won the race... This was a historic moment because it was the first time a Chinese motorcycle brand had ever won at the World Superbike Championship.”可知,事件d(一名法国车手驾驶张雪摩托车赢得了WSBK赛事冠军。)最后发生。因此正确顺序为a→c→b→d。
25.这句话运用了比喻修辞。根据张雪本人的经历可知,张雪从贫困学徒到创立品牌并赢得世界冠军,经历曲折、充满挑战且最终获得成功,这种人生经历像电影情节一样精彩且鼓舞人心,并非指他真的演过电影或故事被拍成了电影。
26.通读全文可知,张雪出身贫寒(had a difficult childhood),但通过二十年如一日的努力(my effort is ten times)和坚持,最终让中国品牌赢得世界冠军。这说明努力可以帮助人们从任何起点获得成功,而非依赖家庭背景或运气。
【答案】27.A 28.B 29.B 30.C
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要解释了英语中大量法语词汇的由来 (源于1066年诺曼征服),并举例说明了这些词汇在英语和法语中含义的不同,提醒学习者注意区分。
27.细节理解题。根据“That year, Norman armies from northern France took over Britain. The Normans spoke French, and after they took control, French became the language of England’s rulers (统治者) and rich people.”可知,法语词汇进入英语的直接原因是诺曼人将法语带到了英国。故选A。
28.细节理解题。根据“In English, ‘chat’ means ‘to talk casually with someone’, like chatting with friends after class.”
