When I was a young boy, every summer, Mom, Dad, my brothers and I would climb into our old car and drive for 7 hours over long mountain roads to visit Mom’s relatives in Tennessee. We always stayed in Grandma’s house there with her, Uncle Rich and Aunt Charlotte. It was a fun time with days full of excitement and joy. Often Aunt Charlotte would even make us a Thanksgiving dinner in the summertime. Some of my happiest childhood memories came from those visits.
One especially holds a special place in my heart. During that visit, I had great fun every day. One evening, I climbed into bed in the guest bedroom on the second floor of the house. Although I had played and explored the whole day and was really tired, I was still wide awake, my mind racing with the day’s sweet events. As I lay there, I heard the most pleasant sound coming from the front window below me. It was laughter. Mom, Dad, Uncle Rich, and Aunt Charlotte were down there sharing stories and telling jokes. The laughter was so happy, so joyous, that I found myself smiling. And even then in my young mind and childish heart, I realized that this is how life should be. The laughter became a sweet song to me and I fell asleep feeling all was right with the world.
Whenever my life seems too hard or crazy, I look back on that memory. And I took the lessons that Uncle Rich and Aunt Charlotte taught me. They always lived their lives with love and joy and laughter and smiles. Uncle Rich passed away many years ago but Aunt Charlotte is still alive. I write to her each week and I am so thankful to still have her in my life.
We fill lives with laughter, smiles, love and joy. We not only give ourselves happiness but also make this world a better and more beautiful place.

The world has been changing very quickly since the introduction of generative (生成的) artificial intelligence (AI). Generative AI now helps write stories, create art and answer questions, and it can even copy people’s voices. It’s being used in schools, offices, music and movies. Even the Oscars (奥斯卡奖) are changing because of AI.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has updated (更新) its rules, saying films that use AI are now allowed to win awards. So even if a movie uses AI to help with writing, editing or voices, it can still win Hollywood’s biggest prize. The Academy explained that using AI will not help or hurt a film’s chances of getting nominated (被提名), although human creativity and input are still the things that matter most. “AI is just a tool,” said Academy president David Rubin. “What truly makes a film great is the human story behind it.”
The use of AI in film became a talking point after this year’s Oscars, when Adrien Brody won Best Actor for his work in The Brutalist. In the film, both Brody and his co-star Felicity Jones had to speak Hungarian, a very difficult language to pronounce. According to the film’s editor David Jancso, AI was used to perfect their speech. “They did a wonderful job, but we also wanted to perfect it so that even locals will not notice any difference.” Another Oscar-winning film, the musical Emilia Perez, used AI to improve the singing of the actors.
The use of AI is becoming more common in the film and music industries. But not everyone is happy about it. During the 2023 Hollywood strikes, many actors and writers spoke out about AI, saying they were worried it could take away their jobs. Some worried that studios might use it to write scripts instead of hiring real writers, and others feared their voices or faces could be copied by AI without their permission (许可). Industry experts suggest that while AI can assist in production, it cannot replace human creativity and emotional depth that audiences connect with.
8.What does the Academy say about AI in films?
A.AI films are unable to win Oscars.
B.All films will use AI in the near future.
C.AI doesn’t change a film’s chance to win.
D.AI is becoming more important than humans.
9.How does the author show the influence of AI on the film industry?
A.By giving examples of AI in films.
B.By presenting the history of AI.
C.By focusing on technical details.
D.By comparing AI with traditional tools.
10.Why were some Hollywood workers unhappy about AI?
A.It made their voices sound strange.
B.It completely changed Oscar rules.
C.It might make them lose their jobs.
D.It made movies win too many awards.
11.What is the best title for the text?
A.AI in the Oscars: Rules & Influence
B.AI in Film-Making: Future & Possibilities
C.AI in the Film Industry: Creativity & Success
D.AI in Hollywood: Anxieties and Worries.
【答案】8.C 9.A 10.C 11.A
根据第二段中的“The Academy explained that using AI will not help or hurt a film’s chances of getting nominated (被提名), although human creativity and input are still the things that matter most. (该学院表示,使用人工智能既不会增加、也不会降低影片获得提名的概率,不过人类的创造力与投入依旧是最重要的因素。)”可知,美国电影艺术与科学学院认为使用AI不会改变一部电影被提名或获奖的机会,人类创造力才是最重要的。
9.推理判断题。根据第三段“The use of AI in film became a talking point after this year’s Oscars, when Adrien Brody won Best Actor for his work in The Brutalist.
根据第四段中的“During the 2023 Hollywood strikes, many actors and writers spoke out about AI, saying they were worried it could take away their jobs. Some worried that studios might use it to write scripts instead of hiring real writers, and others feared their voices or faces could be copied by AI without their permission (许可). (在2023年好莱坞罢工运动中,众多演员和编剧公开反对人工智能,担心其会抢走自己的工作。有人担忧影视公司会用人工智能撰写剧本,而非聘请专业编剧;还有人害怕自己的声音或容貌会在未经许可的情况下被人工智能复制。)”可知,一些好莱坞从业者担心AI会导致他们失业。
11.主旨大意题。根据文章第一段中“Generative AI now helps write stories, create art and answer questions, and it can even copy people’s voices. It’s being used in schools, offices, music and movies. Even the Oscars (奥斯卡奖) are changing because of AI. (生成式人工智能现在可以帮助编写故事,创造艺术和回答问题,甚至可以复制人的声音。它被用在学校、办公室、音乐和电影中。就连奥斯卡奖也因为人工智能而发生了变化。)”以及第二段中“The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has updated its rules, saying films that use AI are now allowed to win awards.
D
Nowadays, social media like TikTok and Instagram is filled with creators boiling apples for digestion, replacing iced coffee with hot water or explaining why the body’s “yin and yang” might be out of balance. Even small habits like wearing slippers indoors are suddenly presented as keys to living a healthier life. While many of these habits, which are deeply rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), have existed for centuries, social media has presented them as modern lifestyles.
TCM approaches health differently from much of Western medicine. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, it focuses on restoring balance within the body through ideas such as qi (energy), yin and yang, and the interaction between the body and its environment. The goal is prevention and harmony rather than simply reacting to illness.
That philosophy is part of the appeal. At a time when wellness culture often feels super-commercialised and fragmented (碎片化), Chinese medicine offers a slower and more integrated model of health. It emphasises prevention and focuses on the root cause of illness rather than quick fixes. For many online audiences, that idea feels refreshingly human in contrast to efficiency-driven Western medicine. Against this background, Chinese wellness practices have begun spreading widely online.
But the speed at which these traditions are spreading raises familiar questions about cultural translation. On social media, complex traditions are often simplified into bite-sized habits: drinking hot water, boiling apples or avoiding cold foods. When practices that developed over centuries are reduced to quick tips, the philosophical foundations behind them can disappear.
There are also medical debates. While many people use TCM for relaxation, balance or preventative care, scientists note that some herbal treatments lack consistent clinical evidence and can carry risks if misused. Like many forms of alternative medicine, the line between cultural practice and medical advice is not so sharp.
Still, the popularity of Chinese wellness culture reflects something deeper than a passing trend. It taps into a wider search for balance in an era of anxiety and has firmly entered the global self-care conversation.
12.What can be inferred from paragraph 1?
A.TCM can provide a very effective cure.
B.Chinese wellness culture is popular online.
C.Those online creators understand TCM well.
D.China’s modern lifestyle has its own appeal.
13.What is paragraph 2 mainly about concerning TCM?
A.Its effect. B.Its advantages. C.Its philosophy. D.Its potential risks.
14.Which word best describes the author’s attitude to the online tips?
A.Concerned. B.Biased. C.Tolerant. D.Appreciative.
15.What does the author want to say in the last paragraph?
A.The popularity of TCM will not last long.
B.Chinese medical advice has yet to be tested.
C.TCM is more scientific than Western medicine.
D.Chinese wellness culture will be accepted globally.
【答案】12.B 13.C 14.A 15.D
根据第一段“Nowadays, social media like TikTok and Instagram is filled with creators boiling apples for digestion, replacing iced coffee with hot water or explaining why the body’s ‘yin and yang’ might be out of balance. (如今,TikTok和Instagram等社交媒体上充斥着煮苹果助消化、将冰咖啡换成热水或解释身体'阴阳'可能失衡的创作者)”以及“While many of these habits, which are deeply rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), have existed for centuries, social media has presented them as modern lifestyles. (尽管这些习惯大多根植于传统中医,已有数百年历史,但社交媒体却将它们呈现为现代生活方式。)”可知,中国养生文化在网上很受欢迎。
13.主旨大意题。根据第二段“TCM approaches health differently from much of Western medicine. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, it focuses on restoring balance within the body through ideas such as qi (energy), yin and yang, and the interaction between the body and its environment. The goal is prevention and harmony rather than simply reacting to illness.(中医的健康诊疗理念与多数西医截然不同。中医不会孤立地治疗各类病症,而是依托气、阴阳以及人体与环境相互作用等理论,侧重调理、恢复人体内在平衡,其诊疗宗旨重在防病养生、调和身心,而非患病后被动医治。)”可知,第二段主要介绍了中医的哲学理念。
14.推理判断题。根据第四段“But the speed at which these traditions are spreading raises familiar questions about cultural translation. On social media, complex traditions are often simplified into bite-sized habits...When practices that developed over centuries are reduced to quick tips, the philosophical foundations behind them can disappear. (但这些传统传播的速度引发了关于文化翻译的熟悉问题。在社交媒体上,复杂的传统往往被简化为简短易行的小习惯……当历经数世纪发展的实践被缩减为快速小贴士时,其背后的哲学基础可能会消失)”可知,作者对网上这些简化的小贴士持担忧态度。
15.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Still, the popularity of Chinese wellness culture reflects something deeper than a passing trend. It taps into a wider search for balance in an era of anxiety and has firmly entered the global self-care conversation. (尽管如此,中国养生文化的流行反映的不仅仅是昙花一现的趋势。它触及了焦虑时代对平衡的更广泛追求,并已牢固地进入全球自我护理的对话中)”可知,作者认为中国养生文化将被全球接受。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项
A majority of people desire to become the extroverts (外向的人). 16 For example, quiet people are good observers. In such a fast-paced world, quiet people, with less time spent chatting, have more energy to observe situations and people. Ask a quiet person their thoughts on a situation or person, and you may be surprised to receive an extremely reflective answer.
17 Quiet people think before they speak. In a work discussion with colleagues, the quiet men and women hardly speak suddenly, and instead, they listen carefully. With less time spent talking, quiet people have time to really think before they speak. 18 Because they are so selective with words, when they speak, it seems like the whole world stops to listen to what they have to say.
19 With their quiet, relaxed temperament (性情), quiet people are often the ears that others run to for advice, and are also respected for their good listening skills and cautious words. Additionally, quiet people rarely annoy others in their presence and they often make others feel at ease.
Quiet people work on a more productive basis. Quiet people tend to be free from the distractions that often come from being around people all day long. 20 It is common to observe a quiet co-worker, alone in his or her office for hours at a time working on the quiet focus.
A.Less talking means more reflecting and observing, so they won’t miss much.
B.Quiet people seem accessible.
C.Actually quiet people have their own strengths, though.
D.Consequently, they are capable of accomplishing a lot on their quiet focus.
E.It is rare to see a quiet friend speak rudely.
F.In this way, they will take the time to ensure what they are saying is true.
G.Quiet people are more intelligent.
【答案】16.C 17.A 18.F 19.B 20.D
根据第一段首句“A majority of people desire to become the extroverts.(大多数人渴望成为外向的人)”和第三句“For example, quiet people are good observers.(例如,安静的人是很好的观察者)”可知,这是将外向的人和安静的人作对比,说明安静的人的优势。
根据这段话中的“Quiet people think before they speak. In a work discussion with colleagues, the quiet men and women hardly speak suddenly, and instead, they listen carefully. With less time spent talking, quiet people have time to really think before they speak.(安静的人在开口前会思考。在与同事的工作讨论中,安静的男女很少突然发言,相反,他们会认真倾听。由于说话时间较少,安静的人有时间在开口前进行真正的思考)”可推断,安静的人虽然说话不多,但他们会多思考,A项“少说话意味着多反思与多观察,因此他们不会错过太多”,与推断相吻合。故选A。
18.第三题在第二段中间,根据它前面一句“With less time spent talking, quiet people have time to really think before they speak.(由于花在交谈上的时间较少,安静的人有时间在开口前进行认真思考)”和后面一句“Because they are so selective with words, when they speak, it seems like the whole world stops to listen to what they have to say.(因为他们用词极为考究,所以当他们开口时,仿佛整个世界都停下来聆听他们要说的话)”可推知,由于安静的人热衷思考,他们开口说话时更有可信度。
根据下文“With their quiet, relaxed temperament(性情), quiet people are often the ears that others run to for advice, and are also respected for their good listening skills and cautious words. Additionally, quiet people rarely annoy others in their presence and they often make others feel at ease.(性格安静、沉稳的人,往往是他人寻求建议时会找的倾听者,他们良好的倾听技巧和谨慎的言辞也备受尊重。此外,安静的人在与人相处时很少惹恼他人,他们常常能让别人感到自在)”可知,安静的人平易近人,B项“安静的人似乎平易近人”,与推断相吻合。故选B。
20.第五题在第四段中间,结合它前面一句“Quiet people tend to be free from the distractions that often come from being around people all day long.(安静的人往往不会受到那些常常源于整日与人相处而产生的干扰)”和后面一句“It is common to observe a quiet co-worker, alone in his or her office for hours at a time working on the quiet focus.(人们常常会看到一位安静的同事,独自在办公室里一待就是几个小时,专注地安静工作)”可知,安静的人工作不会分心,工作效率高,本题位于它们之间,要满足承上启下的原则,体现安静的人能专注工作并取得成绩,D项表示“因此,凭借沉稳的专注力,他们能够收获丰硕成果”,与推断相吻合。故选D。

Dear Lucy,
I’m sorry to hear that your best friend has tricked you. I’d like to offer you some advice.
Before making a decision, you’d better think the whole thing through. If your friend really tricked you on purpose, it’s time for you to let go of your friendship. First of all, a good friend is a person you can trust. Secondly, when you get into trouble, your friend will try to help you out. That is, a good friend should be helpful. Thirdly, a good friend should be understanding. Whenever you feel sad or lonely, he/she is willing to spare some time to keep you company.
I hope that you will find a truly good friend, who will also value you very much.
Yours,
Li Hua

Eddie valued his family’s accordion (手风琴) — a treasure passed down from his grandfather to his father, representing his Mexican-American family’s Tejano music tradition. Raised in San Antonio neighborhood filled with Tejano rhythms, Eddie learned the instrument from his father and formed the band Las Estrellas (“The Stars”) with childhood friends: Luis on drums and Ruben on guitar.
Each day, Eddie hurried to Luis’s house for practice, struggling with the heavy accordion case while worrying about Ruben. Though a gifted guitarist who picked up songs quickly and loved playing with the band, Ruben hated practicing alone. He was always late, and his lack of solo (单独的) practice led to constant mistakes — a growing problem for the trio (三重奏).
Their lives changed when Luis handed Eddie an envelope from the Tejano Festival: an invitation to perform in just two months. The boys celebrated wildly, but Eddie’s joy was mixed with anxiety, hoping the opportunity would motivate Ruben to practice. That night, Eddie shared the news with his family. His father, a former festival winner, presented a trophy (奖杯) with “First Place” written on it and encouraged him, “You belong there and will shine.” Eddie admitted his worry about Ruben, who was too talented and dear a friend to replace. His father advised, “Find out why he won’t practice alone and help him.”
At their next practice, Ruben messed up the festival song at the very beginning. He claimed sore fingers from building a hut (简陋的小屋), but Luis accused him of skipping practice. Ruben got annoyed, and Eddie was angry. Following his father’s advice, Eddie asked Ruben why he didn’t play at home as he should. Ruben admitted, “My guitar sounds lonely alone, and I can’t focus.”
Upon learning where Ruben’s problem lay, Eddie decided to take immediate action to make practice fun for Ruben. On the way to Luis’s, Eddie came up with a plan: practice together at Ruben’s house daily. Luis agreed and they ordered Ruben’s favorite pizza for a surprise.

With pizza in hand, Eddie and Luis arrived at Ruben’s door. Ruben’s eyes widened in surprise when he opened the door, and his annoyance from the earlier argument melted away instantly. As they sat on the floor of his room, pizza boxes spread out, Eddie said, “We’re a band. We don’t practice alone — we practice together.” For the next two months, they showed up at Ruben’s house every afternoon. They laughed through mistakes, adjusted the song to highlight Ruben’s guitar skills, and turned practice into a joyful time. Ruben no longer felt lonely, and his playing became precise and full of passion.
Finally the big day came. The three boys stepped onto the stage, Eddie’s accordion glinting under the lights. When the first note rang out, they played in perfect harmony, Ruben’s solo shining brighter than ever. The audience cheered wildly as the final note faded. They didn’t just win the first prize that day — they learned that the best music, like the truest friendship, is never played alone.

注意:
