一、阅读理解
Passage 1
In the hustle and bustle of modemn life, the concept of"flow"has gained significant attention among
productivity experts and psychologists alike.First identified by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi,
flow is a mental state in which a person is fully immersed in an activity, experiencing a sense of energized
focus, full involvement, and enjoyment. This state is often described as being"in the zone."
For individuals stiving to manage their time effectively, achieving flow can be a game-changer.When
you are in a state of flow, time seems to disappear, and your productivity soars. However, entering this
state is not automatic;it requires deliberate effort and a conducive environment.
One of the key prerequisites for flow is a clear set of goals and immediate feedback.Without knowing
what you are trying to achieve, your mind will wander, making it impossible to focus. For instance,a
writer who sets a goal to finish a specific chapter by noon, and who can see the word count increasing,is
more likely to enter flow than one who simply aims to "write something."
Furthermore, the task at hand must be challenging enough to engage your skills but not so difficult that it
becomes overwhelming.This balance,often called the "challenge-skill balance,"is crucial.If a task is too
easy, you will become bored,if it is too difficult, you will become anxious. Both boredom and anxiety are
enemies of flow.
Distractions are the greatest enemy of focus. To cultivate flow, you must minimize interruptions. This
means turning off notifications on your phone, closing unnecessary tabs on your computer, and finding a
quiet workspace. Some people even set aside specific"flow hours"during the day when they are not
available for meetings or casual conversation.
Finally, intrinsic motivation plays a vital role.People are more likely to enter a state of flow when they are
genuinely interested in the activity itself, rather than doing it for an extemal reward. This is why finding
passion in your work or studies is so important for effective time management.
In conclusion, while managing a to-do list is important, managing your focus is even more critical.By
understanding the science of flow, you can design your work environment and schedule to maximize
those periods of deep, productive work, making the most of your limited time.
()1.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.The definition of"flow"and its importance for time management.
B.The difference between boredom and anxiety in the workplace.
C.How to set clear goals for daily tasks.
D.The role of smartphones in reducing productivity
()2.According to the passage, which of the following is NOT a condition for achieving a state of flow?
A.Having clear goals and feedback.
B.Maintaining a balance between challenge and skill.
C.Working for long periods without a break.
D.Minimizing distractions and interruptions.
()3.The phrasechallenge-skill balance"in paragraph 4 most likely means that:
A.A task should be easy to complete.
B.A task should be very difficult to test your limits.
C.A task should be slightly beyond your current ability but achievable
D.A task should be unrelated to your personal interests.
()4.Why is intrinsic motivation important for entering a state of flow?
A.It helps you get extemal rewards faster.
B.It makes the activity feel more like a duty.
C.It increases your genuine interest and engagement.
D.It allows you to multitask more effectively.
()5.What can be inferred about the author's attitude towards multi-tasking?
A.It is strongly recommended for saving time
B.It is considered an enemy of deep focus.
C.It is the best way to achieve flow.
D.It is only useful for creative work
Passage 2
The Pomodoro Technique, developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s,is a time management
method that has become a global phenomenon. The technique uses a timer to break work into intervals,
traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks. Each interval is known as a "pomodoro,"
from the Italian word for tomato,'after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer Cirillo used as a university
student.
The core philosophy of the Pomodoro Technique is based on the principle that frequent breaks can
improve mental agility.By forcing you to focus in short, intense bursts,it helps prevent burnout and
maintains high levels of concentration. The method is particularly effective for tasks that require sustained
attention,such as studying,writing,or coding.
The application of the technique is deceptively simple.First, you decide on the task to be done. Then, you
set the timer for 25 minutes and work on the task until the timer rings. When the timer rings, you put a
checkmark on a piece of paper to mark one completed pomodoro. After completing one pomodoro, you
take a five-minute break. This short break is crucial for letting your mind relax and consolidate
information.After four pomodoros,you take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes.
However, the technique is not without its critics. Some argue that the 25-minute work period is too short
for complex tasks that require deep thinking and a long time to get started. For a software developer
trying to fix a complex bug,or a novelist trying to craft a narrative, being interrupted by a timer every 25
minutes might be more disruptive than helpful. For these individuals,a 50-minute or 90-minute work
period might be more appropriate.
Furthermore, the technique requires discipline. It is easy to ignore the timer and continue working,or to
let a five-minute break turn into a thirty-minute distraction.Success with the Pomodoro Technique relies
heavily on a willingness to respect the boundaries of the timer and to be strict about taking breaks
Despite these challenges, the Pomodoro Technique remains a powerful tool for time management,
especially for those who struggle with procrastination.By breaking a large, daunting task into a series of
small, manageable intervals,it makes the task feel less intimidating. This reduction in psychological
resistance is often the key to getting started, which is the hardest part of managing one's time.
()1.What is the primary purpose of the Pomodoro Technique?
A.To help people work longer hours without sleeping.
B.To improve focus and prevent mental fatigue through structured intervals.
C.To replace traditional timers with digital applications.
D.To encourage multi-tasking to save time.
()2.According to the passage, what is a potential disadvantage of the standard 25-minute pomodoro?
A.It is too long for most daily tasks.
B.It can be too short for complex,deep-thinking jobs.
C.It requires a special tomato-shaped timer.
D.It is only effective for students, not professionals.
()3.The word"daunting"in the last paragraph is closest in meaning to:
A.Easy and pleasant.
B.Large and frightening.
C.Small and simple.
D.Interesting and exciting.
()4.The author implies that the success of the Pomodoro Technique largely depends on:
A.The quality of the timer used.
B.The user's strict adherence to the time limits.
C.The complexity of the task.
D.The user's age and experience
()5.Why does the author mention the criticism of the technique?
A.To suggest the technique is useless.
B.To show that the technique has limits and is not a perfect solution for everyone.
C.To prove that long breaks are better than short breaks
D.To encourage the use of longer work periods for all tasks.

三、阅读短文回答问题
Read the passage and answer the questions.
The "Eisenhower Matrix,"named after U.S.President Dwight D.Eisenhower,is a powerful tool for
making decisions about priorities.Eisenhower once said,"What is important is seldom urgent, and what
is urgent is seldom important."This insight forms the basis of the matrix, which helps you sort your tasks
into four quadrants based on their urgency and importance.
The four quadrants are:
1.Quadrant I:Urgent and Important. These are crises and deadlines (e.g.,a project due today,a medical
emergency).These tasks demand immediate attention.
2.Quadrant II:Not Urgent but Important. This is the quadrant of quality and personal growth. It includes
activities like planning, exercise, relationship building, and learning new skills. These tasks are crucial for
long-term success but are often neglected because they are not pressing
3.Quadrant I:Urgent but Not Important.These are often interruptions,like some emails,phone calls,or
minor requests from others. They feel urgent, but they do not contribute to your own long-term goals.
4.Quadrant IV:Not Urgent and Not Important. This is the quadrant of time-wasting activities, such as
mindless scrolling through social media, excessive TV,or busywork.
The key to effective time management, according to the matrix,is to spend most of your time in Quadrant
II.By focusing on important but not urgent tasks-like planning ahead and building skills-you can
reduce the number of crises (Quadrant D)that arise in the future. You must also leam to say"no"or
delegate tasks in Quadrant III,and stictly limit time spent in Quadrant IV.
Mastering this matrix requires honesty. You must ask yourself what tasks truly serve your goals. It is easy
to mistake a noisy, urgent request for an important one.By using the matrix regularly, you can train your
mind to focus on what tuly matters, making your time management far more strategic and effective.
1.What is the main purpose of the Eisenhower Matrix?(within 15 words)
2.According to the passage, which quadrant represents the most valuable use of time for long-term
success?Why?
3.Explain the difference between Quadrant I and Quadrant III.
4.What does the phrase"delegate tasks"in paragraph 5 most likely mean?
5.How can focusing on Quadrant II reduce the number of crises in one's life?

范文:
Dear Editor,
My First Impression of High School
As a freshman,my first impression of our school was a mix of awe and anxiety. The campus was
much larger than my middle school, with modern buildings and a huge sports field.I felt a bit lost at
first, but the senior students were incredibly helpful, guiding me to my classroom. My classmates all
seemed so outgoing and confident, which made me a little anxious about fitting in.
The biggest challenge I've faced is managing the increased workload. The classes are more demanding,
and the teachers expect us to be independent learners.I struggled to concentrate during my first few
classes because I was distracted by everything new.But I have realized that it's okay to ask for help.
I'm learning to plan my time and have made a few fiiends who share the same struggles.
I am truly looking forward to the next three years.I believe high school will be a joumey of self-
discovery, where I can explore my interests and grow into a more confident person.I hope to join the
debate club and make many more great memories here.
Yours,
Li Hua
