Making City Public Facilities More Eco-Friendly
To meet the global goal of cutting carbon (碳) pollution to zero, cities around the world are working hard to make public facilities (like buses, street lamps) use less energy and produce fewer emissions (排放). These facilities are a big source of pollution in cities, and here’s how much pollution each main public facility made in 2025:
Type 1: Land public transport
Type 2: Street lighting system
Type 3: Marine and airline public transport
Type 4: Public building air-conditioners
Type 5: Urban water supply
To deal with the pollution caused by these facilities, cities have come up with practical ways to make them more eco-friendly.
Types
Eco-solutions
Advantages
Public transport
Electric Buses &Hydrogen Taxis
Buses reduce 60% of emissions; Taxis can drive much further.
Street lighting system
Solar-powered LED Street Lamps
85% of electricity from solar energy; LEDs save 70% of power.
Public building air-conditioners
Ground-source Heat Pumps
Reduce 50% of emissions; Suitable for large buildings.
Urban water supply
Energy-recycling Water Pumps
Capture energy from water flow; Cut 20% of the system’s emissions.
“These eco-friendly changes bring double benefits — they’re kind to the environment and help save the city’s operating costs. By 2030, our city aims to apply these green solutions to 60% of public facilities. If this goal is achieved, the pollution from these facilities will drop by 45% from 2025 levels,” says Lin Yue, a city planner.
1.What is the total percentage of emissions from all public vehicles in 2025?
A.63%. B.56%. C.38%. D.15%.
2.Which eco-solution helps both save power and reduce emissions?
A.Electric Buses. B.Ground-source Heat Pumps.
C.Energy-recycling Water Pumps. D.Solar-powered LED Street Lamps.
3.What benefit do the green changes bring about according to Lin Yue?
A.Reducing pollution. B.Controlling the number of facilities.
C.Cutting 60% of costs. D.Speeding up facility construction.
【答案】1.B 2.C 3.A
根据表格最后一栏中的“Energy-recycling Water Pumps(能量回收型水泵)”和“Capture energy from water flow; Cut 20% of the system’s emissions.(从水流中获取能量;使系统排放量减少 20%)”可知,能量回收水泵既能节省电力又能减少排放,故选C。
根据最后一段““These eco-friendly changes bring double benefits—they’re kind to the environment and help save the city’s operating costs. By 2030, our city aims to apply these green solutions to 60% of public facilities. If this goal is achieved, the pollution from these facilities will drop by 45% from 2025 levels,” says Lin Yue, a city planner.(城市规划师林悦表示:“这些环保举措带来双重益处——既有利于环境,又能帮助节省城市运营成本。到2030年,我们城市的目标是将这些绿色方案应用于60%的公共设施。如果这一目标得以实现,这些设施的污染排放量相较于2025年的水平将下降45%。”)”可知,林悦认为这些绿色变革带来的好处是减少了污染。故选A。
B
One 14th of July, I was attending a baseball game with friends. The evening was warm, the beer was cold, and the fireworks were spectacular. And then suddenly a firework flew into the flag. The crowd turned angry and began shouting. One man nearby had tears in his eyes. Just like a similar accident in 2014, setting the Stars and Stripes (条) on fire with fireworks is not a good idea.
April 2018 marks the 200th year of Congress’s formal adoption of the present “design” — 13 stripes representing the union’s original 13 states, and a changing number of stars representing the present states. It allows the flag to be immediately recognizable that the number of stars changes while the number of stripes remains fixed. But even though the flag is two centuries old, it’s remarkably powerful as a national symbol.
Anyone who has travelled to the US will know how ubiquitous the flag is. It is seen in houses and front yards, flies from cars, and hangs from bridges; school children practise raising and lowering it. Federal law announces that it must be flown from all public buildings.
The United States Flag Code goes into detail. In 50 long articles, it lists everything from when, where and how the flag can be displayed to the methods of dealing with old flags.
Americans care so much about the Stars and Stripes because it plays a unique and supreme role in their culture. When making a vow (宣誓), Americans do not first swear their devotion to the country, but “to the Flag of the United States of America”. The national song, The Star Spangled Banner, celebrates not the nation, but the flag.
4.Why did the crowd turn angry and begin shouting?
A.Because the beer was cold.
B.Because the game was boring.
C.Because their national flag was set on fire.
D.Because a similar accident happened in 2014.
5.What does the underlined word “ubiquitous” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Common. B.Unique. C.Beautiful. D.Pleasant.
6.What can we infer about the Stars and Stripes?
A.The number of its stripes remains fixed.
B.Americans think it of great importance.
C.It’s also called the Star Spangled Banner.
D.It has lost its influence after 200 years.
7.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.The Stars and Stripes — A Changing Flag
B.The Stars and Stripes — Flying All Around
C.The Stars and Stripes — Burning With Tears
D.The Stars and Stripes — A Powerful Symbol
【答案】4.C 5.A 6.B 7.D
根据第一段中“And then suddenly a firework flew into the flag. The crowd turned angry and began shouting. (然后突然一个烟花飞到了国旗上。人群变得愤怒并开始大喊大叫)”可知,人群愤怒和大喊大叫是因为他们的国旗被点燃了。
5.词句猜测题。根据第三段“Anyone who has travelled to the US will know how ubiquitous the flag is. It is seen in houses and front yards, flies from cars, and hangs from bridges; school children practise raising and lowering it. Federal law announces that it must be flown from all public buildings. (任何去过美国的人都知道这面国旗是多么的ubiquitous。它在房屋和前院被看到,从汽车上飘扬,悬挂在桥梁上;学校儿童练习升降它。联邦法律宣布它必须在所有公共建筑上悬挂)”可知,美国国旗随处可见。故划线词ubiquitous意为“无处不在的;随处可见的”,与“Common”同义。
6.推理判断题。根据第四段“The United States Flag Code goes into detail. In 50 long articles, it lists everything from when, where and how the flag can be displayed to the methods of dealing with old flags. (美国国旗法非常详细。在50篇长文中,它列出了从何时、何地、如何展示国旗到处理旧国旗的方法等所有内容)”和第五段“Americans care so much about the Stars and Stripes because it plays a unique and supreme role in their culture. (美国人非常关心星条旗,因为它在他们的文化中扮演着独特而至高无上的角色)”可知,美国人非常重视星条旗。
7.主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段中烟花点燃国旗的事件,以及第二段中“even though the flag is two centuries old, it’s remarkably powerful as a national symbol. (尽管国旗已有两个世纪的历史,但它作为一个国家象征仍然非常强大)”和第五段中“Americans care so much about the Stars and Stripes because it plays a unique and supreme role in their culture. (美国人非常关心星条旗,因为它在他们的文化中扮演着独特而至高无上的角色)”可知,文章通过国旗被点燃的事件引出话题,随后介绍了美国国旗的设计历史、普及程度以及其作为国家象征的重要地位。因此,D项“The Stars and Stripes — A Powerful Symbol(星条旗——强大的象征)”能概括文章内容,是最佳标题。
C
“Slow Travel” is not a new idea, in fact, it is thought to have come about in the late 80s. The term(术语) appeared in the wake of the slow-food movement which stressed the importance of locally-sourced produce and home-cooked meals as an alternative to the increasing use of processed foods and fast-food restaurants.
Where “slow food” offered a healthier and more sustainable approach to food consumption, “slow travel” was a similar reaction to the rise of mass tourism. Particularly, it aimed to get rid of some negative aspects of traditional travel, such as threats to cultural identity, environmental impacts, and the general commercial nature of mass tourism.
After experiencing growth for almost two decades, interest in “slow travel” seems to have topped out in popularity back in 2004 with as many as 20,000 people googling it on a monthly basis. In the following decade, interest fell sharply by as much as 80%. However, since 2018 the term has been slowly but steadily increasing in popularity once again.
While using “slow” transport and staying longer in a destination can both help reach the objectives of slow tourism, the essential element isn’t necessarily traveling slowly. What is essential is focusing on your approach and attitude to travel. For those interested in pursuing this approach to travel, there is no strict set of guidelines to follow but rather a shift in mindset. Forget about trying to achieve a pre-planned set of experiences and instead focus on experiencing a new place, people, and culture through immersion (沉浸).
There are many significant benefits of slow tourism for the traveler, the communities they visit, and the environment. Through conscious effort, travel can broaden our horizons and deepen our knowledge and understanding of people and places. It can deliver economic as well as social and cultural advantages to the local communities we visit. Slow travel also has the potential to minimize some of the negative impacts that travel can have on us, our community, and the environment.
8.What inspired the slow travel trend?
A.The convenience of mass tourism.
B.The popularity of fast-food restaurants.
C.The rise of the slow-food movement.
D.The advance of transportation technology.
9.How does Paragraph 3 develop its idea?
A.By listing data. B.By using comparisons.
C.By giving examples. D.By raising questions.
10.What do true slow travelers attach great importance to?
A.Fixed schedules. B.Local experience.
C.Cozy accommodation. D.Souvenir collection.
11.What’s the author’s attitude towards slow tourism?
A.Critical. B.Disapproving. C.Favorable. D.Uncaring.
【答案】8.C 9.A 10.B 11.C
根据第一段中“The term (术语) appeared in the wake of the slow-food movement which stressed the importance of locally-sourced produce and home-cooked meals as an alternative to the increasing use of processed foods and fast-food restaurants.(这个术语是在“慢食运动”的背景下产生的,该运动强调本地生产的食材和家常菜肴的重要性,以此作为对日益增多的加工食品和快餐店的使用的一种替代选择。)”以及第二段中“Where “slow food” offered a healthier and more sustainable approach to food consumption, “slow travel” was a similar reaction to the rise of mass tourism.( “慢食”为食品消费提供了一种更健康、更可持续的方式,而“慢旅行”则是对大众旅游兴起的一种类似反应。)”
根据第三段“After experiencing growth for almost two decades, interest in “slow travel” seems to have topped out in popularity back in 2004 with as many as 20,000 people googling it on a monthly basis. In the following decade, interest fell sharply by as much as 80%. However, since 2018 the term has been slowly but steadily increasing in popularity once again.( 经过近二十年的增长期后,“慢旅行”的热度似乎在 2004 年达到了顶峰,每月有多达 2 万人在谷歌上搜索这个词。在接下来的十年里,其热度急剧下降了 80%。然而,自 2018 年以来,这个术语的受欢迎程度又开始缓慢但稳步地回升。)”可推知,第三段通过具体数据为核心说明慢旅行热度的变化趋势。
10.细节理解题。根据第四段中“For those interested in pursuing this approach to travel, there is no strict set of guidelines to follow but rather a shift in mindset. Forget about trying to achieve a pre-planned set of experiences and instead focus on experiencing a new place, people, and culture through immersion (沉浸).( 对于那些想要采用这种旅行方式的人来说,并没有严格的规则需要遵循,而更多的是心态的转变。不要试图去实现预先规划好的一系列体验,而是要通过沉浸式体验去感受一个新地方、新的人群和新的文化。)”可知,真正的慢旅行者通过沉浸式体验感受当地的地方、人和文化。
11.推理判断题。根据最后一段“There are many significant benefits of slow tourism for the traveler, the communities they visit, and the environment. Through conscious effort, travel can broaden our horizons and deepen our knowledge and understanding of people and places. It can deliver economic as well as social and cultural advantages to the local communities we visit. Slow travel also has the potential to minimize some of the negative impacts that travel can have on us, our community, and the environment.( 慢旅行对旅行者、他们所访问的社区以及环境都有许多显著的好处。通过有意识的努力,旅行能够拓宽我们的视野,加深我们对人和地方的了解和理解。它还能为我们所访问的当地社区带来经济、社会和文化方面的优势。慢旅行还有可能减少旅行对我们自身、我们的社区以及环境可能产生的负面影响。)”可推知,作者对慢旅行持支持的态度。

Sydney’s Chinatown has been the heart of the Chinese community since the late 19th century. Today, it is a lively mix of Asian culture, food, and tradition, attracting millions of visitors every year. Unlike many other Chinatowns that are only on one street, Sydney’s Chinatown spreads through the Haymarket area, with Dixon Street as its busy center. The weather is nice most of the year, with mild winters and warm summers, making it a great place to visit any time.
Historically, Chinese immigrants first arrived in Australia during the gold rushes of the 1850s. Thousands came to New South Wales looking for fortune. After the gold rush, many settled in Sydney, capital of New South Wales, and turned to market gardening, furniture (家具) making, and running small shops. Today, most of the residents and business owners in Chinatown are still of Chinese roots, and the area remains a true cultural center.
Much of old Chinatown has been rebuilt over the years, but great care has been taken to keep its Chinese character. Traditionally, visitors enter through the beautifully decorated archways (拱门) on Dixon Street, which have traditional stone lions, and gold Chinese characters meant to bring good luck and drive away evil spirits. Other famous landmarks include the Chinese Garden of Friendship — a peaceful classical garden built together with Sydney’s sister city, Guangzhou — and the Paddy’sMarkets, where you can find everything from fresh produce to souvenirs. A short walk away, Darling Square offers modern dining and the striking Darling Quarter playground, mixing old and new.
What tourists and Sydneysiders love most about Chinatown is its food. Whether you want spicy Sichuan hot pot, hand-pulled noodles, or hot Mongolian barbecue (烧烤), there is something for every taste. Late-night restaurants are full of energy, and tea shops line the streets, offering a modern style to traditional tastes.
Chinatown is an important part of Sydney’s multicultural identity. It allows visitors who have never been to China to experience traditional Chinese culture firsthand — right in the heart of one of Australia’s most lively cities.
12.What makes Sydney’s Chinatown special?
A.The climate is mild there. B.It has a history of 200 years.
C.The Chinese population is the largest. D.It is not limited to one street.
13.What can visitors see on Dixon Street?
A.Fresh produce and souvenirs from Paddy’s.
B.Traditional stone lions and gold characters.
C.Modern dining and Darling Quarter playground.
D.Chinese Garden of Friendship and Paddy’s Markets.
14.What can be inferred about the food scene (场面) in the Chinatown?
A.Many classic dishes have been lost.
B.It mainly serves food late at night.
C.It keeps tradition while welcoming change.
D.The food meets most immigrants’ cultural demands.
15.What could be a suitable title for the text?
A.Chinatown: A Living Cultural Bridge B.The Most Popular Attraction in Sydney
C.How Gold Rush Changed Australia D.A Guide to Chinese Immigrants in Australia

根据第三段中的“Traditionally, visitors enter through the beautifully decorated archways (拱门) on Dixon Street, which have traditional stone lions, and gold Chinese characters meant to bring good luck and drive away evil spirits. (历来游客都从迪克森街上装饰精美的拱门步入街区,拱门处立有传统石狮子,还刻有寓意招财纳福、驱邪避凶的金色汉字。)”可知,游客可以在迪克森街看到传统石狮子和金色汉字。
14.推理判断题。根据第四段中的“Whether you want spicy Sichuan hot pot, hand-pulled noodles, or hot Mongolian barbecue (烧烤), there is something for every taste. Late-night restaurants are full of energy, and tea shops line the streets, offering a modern style to traditional tastes. (无论你想吃麻辣鲜香的四川火锅、手工拉面,还是热气腾腾的蒙古烤肉,这里总能满足各类口味。夜宵店铺热闹十足,街边茶饮店鳞次栉比,为传统风味增添了新潮格调。)”可知,当地美食既坚守传统风味,又接纳融合新式变化。
15.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是尾段中的“It allows visitors who have never been to China to experience traditional Chinese culture firsthand — right in the heart of one of Australia’s most lively cities. (它能让从未去过中国的游客,在这座澳大利亚最活跃的城市之一,亲身感受中国传统文化。)”可知,文章全方位介绍悉尼唐人街的风貌与文化价值,凸显其作为鲜活文化桥梁的作用,所以“Chinatown: A Living Cultural Bridge (唐人街:一座鲜活的文化桥梁)”最能概括全文核心,适合作为最佳标题。

阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项
I have always been indecisive when it came to travel. I’d watch endless videos of destinations and read scores of 21 online. But more often than not, 22 fell far short of what was promised. The colourful images I’d come across online would turn out to be totally disappointing in real life.
So, a year ago, I made a change. I banned myself from too much 23 for a trip. Instead, I chose an area I wanted to 24 . I couldn’t rely on my phone. It wasn’t easy at first. I felt rudderless (漫无目的的) without my phone to guide me while wandering through 25 neighbourhoods. I was so accustomed to 26 every detail about each place I visited and without that, I was exposed.
But that’s exactly why it’s so fun. Going in unprepared opens you up to 27 . Without being glued to directions on my phone, I was 28 so much more of my surroundings, noticing details that would otherwise have 29 passed me by.
Travelling without planning has made me more 30 with making decisions. I no longer 31 if the view isn’t as breathtaking as in the photos — because I’m not comparing my 32 to anyone else’s.
Trying to have the 33 holiday is no longer the point for me; it’s about living in the present and making good 34 . And in an era where we can see the best of everything through our phones, it’s been totally 35 to have an experience that’s entirely mine.

故填has shaped。
want to do sth. 故填to experience。

Eric, my husband, and I are enthusiastic hikers. We are attracted by the challenge and beauty of mountain trails (小路), especially those that lead to sites of historical and cultural significance. Our love for hiking began shortly after we were married, and it has been a passion of ours for many years.
Last month, we visited a national park with the intention of hiking to a location known for its stone text. After many difficulties, we found only one site within the park was open to visitors. To enjoy the stone text in the mountains, we needed to finish a 2.5-mile path, which started from the museum of the park. 2.5 miles didn’t sound like a very long hike. We were both just in our seventies but fairly fit, and we thought we could easily do 2.5 miles. However, the worker in the museum warned us that the first mile of the path was steep (陡峭的) and rocky and that it could be very challenging. But we ignored her warning and made up our minds to go.
“2.5 miles is not a big deal. Surely, we could do it if we wear proper boots and start early tomorrow morning,” I whispered to my husband lightheartedly.
The next morning, my husband and I got up early. Before starting our hike, we first reached a place that served breakfast. There, we found a family of three, a young man named Walter, his wife and sister. They would also take the path to watch the stone text. They were warm and friendly and we chatted happily for a while. Before they set off, Walter said that he would see us at the stairs, and we thought no more about it. Twenty minutes later, we also started hiking.
The trail started well and it was pretty much downhill all the way. Then it became more and more challenging. The path became extremely steep and was blocked here and there by huge slippery (湿滑的) rocks, which made each step forward an adventure.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
As we pushed on, the hike became even tougher.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
When Walter saw us, he rushed to help us.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
As we pushed on, the hike became even tougher. The steep portions seemed endless, and each step required every ounce of our strength and concentration. Sweat trickled down our faces, and our legs felt like jelly. We paused frequently to catch our breath and steady ourselves on the uneven ground. In front of us, the jagged rocks and steep inclines tested our limits. Determined to reach the stone text, Eric and I encouraged each other, inching forward slowly but surely.
When Walter saw us, he rushed to help us. Seeing our struggle, he offered his hand to Eric and supported him over a particularly tricky section. “Take it slow, we’ve got this,” Walter smiled reassuringly. With his assistance, we navigated the final stretch of the challenging path. Finally, we stood before the magnificent stone text, filled with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude. The view was breathtaking, and the hike, though arduous, was undoubtedly worth every step.

D.Uncaring.
