Unit 1 You and Me Lesson 2 Section A 2a-2e, Pronunciation
Teaching Objectives
1. Use interrogative sentences with the verb be to ask about personal basic information.
2. Use the simple present tense of the verb be to introduce classmates, teachers and friends.
3. Raise awareness of cultural differences, distinguish given names and surnames, and develop cross-cultural communication competence.
Teaching Content
This is the second period of Unit 1. The core scene takes place on campus: a Grade Seven student Chen Jie meets her new friend Peter together with their foreign English teacher Mr Smith. They greet each other and start a conversation. The dialogue expands more expressions for greeting and introducing others. There is a plot where someone confuses Chinese surnames and given names, which reminds students of cultural gaps and helps cultivate cross-cultural awareness.
Activities 2a–2e form an integrated task chain covering listening, reading and speaking skills:
1. Activity 2a: Students listen to the recording and circle words to complete dialogues, providing abundant sentence materials for follow-up practice and dialogue creation.
2. Activity 2b: Reading comprehension focusing on the dialogue plot.
3. Activity 2c: Fill in information tables to sort out the main characters, training students to organize information in structured forms.
4. Activity 2d: Role-play based on the original dialogue text.
5. Activity 2e: Oral output task for Section A. It summarizes and consolidates all previous knowledge. This activity collects various Wh-questions for personal information. It guides students to shift from talking about themselves to introducing others, and consolidates the usage of third-person pronouns he / she and possessive adjectives his / her.
