Passage1
Racing Toward a New Future
English
Five years ago, Zeke’s whole world was football. He practiced every afternoon and dreamed of becoming a college football star. But a serious leg surgery stopped all his plans. For months, he could not run, jump or join any team games. He felt sad and useless, thinking he would never take part in sports again.
One thing Zeke felt certain about was that he still needed sports in his life. He loved competing and being part of a team, and he loved the rush he got from running fast. As he thought about his love for speed, it hit him that track might be his new athletic future.
After he fully recovered from the surgery, Zeke started hard training alone. At his first school track meet, coaches only put him in one short race. He never imagined he could win. But when he looked back from the finish line and saw he beat all other runners by a long way, he could not stop smiling.
Now Zeke has run track for three years. He has broken three school running records and even joined the Junior Olympics. Besides track, he joins the school marching band in his free time. Losing football taught him a valuable lesson: life will bring unexpected changes. You cannot always control what happens to you, but you can choose how you face it. Sports do not just mean one single game—they bring courage, friendship and new chances for everyone.

Students’ Favourite Sports Survey Report
English
Last week, our class made a survey about Grade Seven students’ favourite sports. We asked 40 seventh graders and drew a pie chart to show the results clearly.
Most students love badminton best, taking up half of all people surveyed. They say badminton is easy to learn and does not need big sports fields. A few students choose football as their top sport. Boys especially enjoy playing football after school, because team matches bring them lots of fun and friendship. Ping-pong is the third popular sport. Many students think ping-pong can train their eyes and make them quick-minded.
Only 10% of students pick physical training. They do running, sit-ups and jump ropes to keep strong, but they think it is boring without partners. Kung fu is the least popular sport here, just 5% of students like it. Most kids feel kung fu movements are hard to practice every day.
From this survey, we can learn that light ball games are much more welcome among Grade Seven students. The writer hopes schools can hold more badminton and ping-pong games to satisfy most students’ needs. At the same time, teachers can share simple kung fu lessons to help more kids know this traditional Chinese sport.

Running for a Dream
I will never forget that November day. It was hotter than normal. This was the day my father and I had waited so long for, because we had been working towards this race for three years. Dozens of familiar faces flashed across my view. They had come for me. I saw worry and excitement on my father’s face. Then the race began!
For the first two and a half miles, I felt great. I had never before been so 1 for something. The weeks leading up to the race were filled with controlled practices and a strict diet. My friends hadn’t seen me in weeks, but they understood the sacrifice (牺牲) required to make my dream a reality. As in all of my races, I didn’t 2 out in the front. I loved the pleasure of passing people as my strength overtook (超过) their speed.
Then without warning, my strength began to decrease. Neck and neck with one of my greatest competitors, I could see the finish line. I had begun the final dash (冲刺) into success when my knees became weak and my legs gave way. Nothing I could do would make them 3 my weight.
I watched as runners rushed by me. Although I knew my dreams of victory were destroyed, I had to finish the race. However, my legs hurt badly. With all of the 4 left in me, I got on my hands and knees and crawled (爬), inch by inch, across the finish line. Voices, both 5 and familiar, cheered me on. They gave me the courage to keep going until the very end.
The doctors were there in seconds, but my eyes searched the crowd for him. There was only one person I wanted to talk to. I whispered, “I’m so sorry, Dad. I’m so sorry I 6 you.” He looked at me, saying, “You could a never disappoint me. Sometimes these things just happen. All that matters is that you did your best.”
“But we worked so 7 . What about our dream?” He reached over for my hand and said, “Don’t you know that you are my dream and it has come true?”

Passage2
(25-26八年级上·福建三明·期中)A lot of people play sports, but very few people become sports experts (专家). If sports aren’t going to be your future, then why should you play them? Why should you play sports every day? Why should you work hard and feel sore (酸痛的) the next day? Wouldn’t it be better to forget sports and only pay attention to your lessons? In fact, there are a lot of reasons to play sports.
First of all, sports are a great way to exercise. Exercising keeps you healthy and strong. It also helps you stay in good condition (状态). When you exercise, your body makes endorphins (内啡肽). When your body makes more endorphins, you’ll have more happy feelings.
Also, sports teach young people how to get on with others and work as a team. They teach young people to respect (尊重) their teachers, teammates and players from the other team. Sports can help young people stay out of trouble. If a young person plays sports, he or she may have fewer problems. This is because sports teach people about rules. They also teach people that if they work hard, they might succeed.
Another good reason for sports is that they make people leave their houses. These days, a lot of people spend too much time watching TV and playing video games. When you play sports, you go outside and exercise in the sun. You take in fresh air. All of these things are important.
Maybe you’re not going to become a sports expert, but that doesn’t matter. Sports will help you become a good and happy person.
9.Why does the writer use a lot of questions in Paragraph 1?
A.To ask for advice. B.To introduce the topic.
C.To get answers from readers. D.To show his worries about sports.
10.What’s the possible relationship (关系) between endorphins(x) and happy feelings(y)?
A. B. C. D.
11.What is important according to Paragraph 4?
A.Getting on well with others. B.Going outside and taking in fresh air.
C.Respecting players from the other team. D.Working hard to become a sports expert.
12.Which is the right structure (结构) of the text?
A. B. C. D.
13.The writer wrote the text to ________.
A.advise people to do more sports B.teach people how to play with others
C.discuss what sports make people strong D.ask people to make good use of their free time
9.B 10.A 11.B 12.C 13.A
第一段连续抛出多个反问,最后一句“In fact, there are a lot of reasons to play sports.”
10.根据“When your body makes more endorphins, you’ll have more happy feelings.”

Do you know what a “burpee” is? How to perform the burpee?
The burpee is one of the most basic exercises. It is made up of a few movements performed very quickly and repeatedly. Some experts believe that it is the best exercise in the world because anyone can do it very easily and very cheaply. Best of all, you can exercise your whole body without going to a gym.
The inventor of the burpee was an American doctor, Royal H Burpee. He firstly developed it in 1932 as a test, called “The Burpee Test”, to test a person’s ability to move rapidly and smoothly.
How to perform the basic burpee correctly:
1. Begin a standing position, with your feet about hip-width apart Stand with your back straight and your arms at your sides.
2. Keep your back straight, squat (蹲坐) down and place your hands on the floor.
3. Push your feet back behind you, so that you move from a squat position to a full-length leg position. Keep both arms and legs straight and strong. This is the basic push up position.
4. Bring your feet back to the squat position immediately by bending your knees quickly and placing your hands on the floor.
5. Jump straight up as high as you can from the squat position, holding your arms up directly over your head.

Passage4
(24-25八年级上·北京石景山·期末)Think about how much time you spent outdoors last week. Really “outdoors.” Walking from the car into the mall doesn’t count. Now think about how much time you spent indoors—on the Internet or playing video games or watching TV. You may say, “I play inside more than outside and I like to play games on the computer.”
If so, it’s likely that you spent more time inside four walls than outside in fresh air. Kids today spend two fewer hours per week on sports and outdoor activities than kids did 20 years ago. That’s according to a University of Michigan study. Non-moving activities are more popular. The costs “include overweight, greater stress (压力), higher rates of physical and emotional illness and less joy…” says Richard Louv, writer of Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder (自然缺失症).
Play is important, even for adults. Just getting outdoors does wonders.
Outdoor activity betters your senses. The next time you sit down to message your friends, take note of your senses during and after your texting. Then do the same experiment after you’ve done something outside. You will find being outdoors brings the senses to life. “Hiking, exploring, and fishing help hone all of your senses,” says Betsy Keller. She’s a professor of exercise and sports sciences at Ithaca College in New York. “Smell, sight…all of your senses are in use when you’re outside.”
Outdoor play frees your mind. Are you stressed out? Having trouble focusing your mind on what you’re doing? Too much time indoors— away from the natural world—may be a cause. Louv uses a term to describe the set of problems caused by too much time indoors: nature deficit disorder. He says, “I use it to describe the price we pay for being so separated from nature.”
Spending time outdoors brings you closer to the environment. When you’re out, breathe in fresh air, hear the leaves crackle underfoot and search cool birds and plants in the woods. It can help you feel more connected to the natural world. No woods nearby? Nature can be found right outside your back door or in your local park.
So, the next time you sit down to spend quality time with a video game, consider treating yourself to a little outdoor play instead.
18.Richard Louv may believe that ______.
A.spending too much time indoors may cause health problems
B.kids today do more outdoor activities than kids in the 1990s
C.kids should pay for being playing in the natural world
D.hiking is a better way to exercise than fishing
19.Which of the following is a good way to enjoy outdoor play?
A.Walking from your car into the restaurant.
B.Spending your quality time with TV shows.
C.Playing a video game of making sand buildings by the beach.
D.Watching in your local park how fast the clouds are moving.
20.What does “hone” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.remember B.improve C.test D.lose
21.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Why kids should play outside. B.Why kids prefer outdoor activities.
C.How kids play games in the nature. D.How kids can get close to the nature.
【答案】18.A 19.D 20.B 21.A
根据“Non-moving activities are more popular. The costs ‘include overweight, greater stress (压力), higher rates of physical and emotional illness and less joy…’ says Richard Louv,”可知,Richard Louv认为不动的活动会产生一些代价,包括超重、更大的压力、更高的身体和精神疾病发病率以及更少的快乐。故选A。
根据“Nature can be found right outside your back door or in your local park.”
根据“You will find being outdoors brings the senses to life. ‘Hiking, exploring, and fishing help hone all of your senses’”可知,徒步旅行、探险和钓鱼有助于磨练你的所有感官,故此处划线部分和improve意义相近。故选B。
故选A。

The burpee is one of the most basic exercises. It is made up of a few movements performed very quickly and repeatedly.
