Passage A(基础科普类・太空探索的三大意义)
Why Do Humans Explore Space?
For thousands of years, humans have looked up at stars and dreamed of traveling beyond Earth. Many students wonder why countries spend billions on space missions. In fact, space exploration brings us three great values.
First, it helps us understand the whole universe and our own planet. With space telescopes and rovers on Mars, scientists study how planets form and find clues about ancient water on other worlds. These discoveries also warn us of environmental problems on Earth.
Second, space technology improves daily life. New materials, medical tools and weather satellites all come from space research. The high-tech cameras used in our phones were first made for spacecraft.
Third, space gives mankind hope for the future. Earth’s resources are limited. Mars and the moon may one day become new stations for human research. Some scientists even plan to build small bases there.
Space travel is full of risks, but every step into space opens a new world for humans. As long as we keep exploring, we will know more about what lies beyond Earth.

Passage B(中档叙事类・少年的航天梦)
Li Ming’s Space Dream
Li Ming, a Grade Nine student, fell in love with space after watching Tiangong Class live three years ago. When Wang Yaping showed weightless water balls in the space station, he made up his mind to become a space engineer.
At first, he met lots of difficulties. His physics grades were not good, and he could hardly understand how rockets launch. His science teacher told him that space exploration needs both imagination and solid basic knowledge. The teacher also advised him to read space books and model small spacecraft in his free time.
Li Ming took the advice seriously. He spent one hour every day reviewing physics and built paper models of Tianwen-1 and Zhurong rover on weekends. Last term, he joined the school space club and took part in a national youth space competition. He designed a small robot rover for moon surface research and won the second prize.
Li Ming said, “Many people think space exploration is far away from teenagers. But every small step of learning brings us closer to the stars. If we keep working hard, our dream of traveling beyond Earth will come true one day.”

Passage C(中上说明类・时文:中国天问一号与祝融火星车)
Tianwen-1 and Zhurong: China’s Journey to Mars
On July 23, 2020, China launched the Tianwen-1 spacecraft, starting its first independent Mars exploration mission. The name “Tianwen” comes from Qu Yuan’s ancient poem, showing human curiosity about everything beyond Earth.
The mission had three hard goals: orbit Mars, land safely on its surface, and send a rover to explore. Before this, no country finished all three tasks in one first Mars mission. But China made it. On May 15, 2021, Tianwen-1 released the Zhurong rover, which successfully landed on the red planet.
Zhurong is named after the ancient Chinese god of fire. It travels across Mars’ surface to study soil, climate and rock. It took thousands of photos and sent back valuable data. Most importantly, it found clear signs that Mars once had large amounts of liquid water billions of years ago. This is key for scientists to search for ancient life on Mars.
Now China plans more Mars and moon missions. Manned lunar landing will be completed around 2030, and more rovers will be sent to explore deeper space. China never stops its steps to explore the unknown universe.

Passage D(拔高议论类・思辨:人类是否该大量投入太空探索?)
Should We Spend Huge Money on Space Exploration?
Nowadays, space missions cost billions of money every year. Some people argue that governments should spend the money on Earth’s problems, such as poverty, pollution and medical care, instead of exploring planets beyond Earth. They think space travel is useless and far from people’s daily needs.
However, supporters of space exploration hold different ideas. First, space technology helps solve Earth’s problems. Weather satellites predict natural disasters; space medical research helps cure hard diseases. Second, space exploration pushes science and education. It encourages young people to study math, physics and engineering. Third, Earth’s resources will run out one day. Other planets may offer new energy and living space for humans in the far future.
Still, we should keep balance. Countries do not need to put all money into space research. Governments can develop space programs while solving environmental and social problems on Earth at the same time.
For students, space exploration is not only about rockets and rovers. It teaches us curiosity, courage and the spirit of discovery. The world beyond Earth always waits for people who dare to explore.
