The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is one of the most powerful tools ever built by humans. Since it was launched in 2021, it has sent back amazing pictures of the early universe.
Unlike the Hubble Space Telescope, JWST mainly uses infrared (红外线) technology. This allows it to see through dust clouds and observe distant galaxies that were formed shortly after the Big Bang. Recently, scientists announced that a new record has been set by JWST—it found the oldest galaxy ever seen, which is about 13.5 billion years old.
However, operating JWST is not easy. It is located about 1.5 million kilometers away from Earth. Once it was sent there, it couldn't be repaired by astronauts like Hubble was. If something breaks, it must be fixed by remote commands (远程指令) sent from Earth.
The data collected by JWST helps scientists answer big questions: How did the universe begin? Are there other planets like Earth? Although the telescope cost nearly $10 billion, it is believed that the investment is worth it because it pushes the boundaries of human knowledge.
( )21. What is special about JWST compared to Hubble?
A. It is closer to Earth.
B. It uses infrared technology.
C. It can be repaired by astronauts.
D. It was launched earlier.
( )22. What does the underlined word "it" in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. The Big Bang.
B. The Hubble Space Telescope.
C. The James Webb Space Telescope.
D. The data.
( )23. According to the passage, why is it risky to operate JWST?
A. It is too expensive to fix.
B. It is too far to be repaired manually.
C. It might be hit by asteroids.
D. It cannot send data back to Earth.
What does the phrase "pushes the boundaries" in the last paragraph probably mean?
( )25. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. JWST found a galaxy that is 1.5 billion years old.
B. JWST can only see visible light like human eyes.
C. Scientists can fix JWST if it breaks down.
D. JWST helps us understand the origin of the universe.
Have you ever dreamed of eating in space? For ordinary people, this was impossible in the past. But now, a new restaurant called "Space Table" has been opened in Shanghai. It offers a special dining experience.
The restaurant is designed to look like a spaceship cabin. When customers walk in, they are asked to wear special suits. Then, the room is tilted (倾斜) to create a feeling of weightlessness. Food and drinks are served in special packages so that they won't float away.
The idea was created by a team of engineers and chefs. "We want to make space technology accessible to everyone," said the manager. "Although the food is common, the experience is unforgettable."
The restaurant has become very popular. Tickets must be booked online at least one month in advance. It is expected that more such restaurants will be opened in other cities soon.
26. Where is the "Space Table" restaurant located?
27. Why are food and drinks served in special packages?
28. What is the main purpose of the restaurant according to the manager?
29. [开放设问] Use the passive voice to describe the restaurant.
