Do you know how to play a musical instrument? Have you ever made one? Terje Isungset can answer yes to both questions. And he makes instruments out of something pretty cool. Ice!
It’s not just any ice. “You can buy perfect ice from factories around the world. But it will not have any sound,” Isungset says. He gets all of his ice from nature. “It’s nature that decides the sound of the instrument,” he says.
Isungset got the idea for ice music more than 20 years ago. “I was asked to do a concert in a frozen waterfall,” he says. This gave him the idea to play instruments that were actually made out of ice. As far as he could tell, this hadn’t been done before. “There were no books to read about it — nothing on the Internet,” he says, “So I had to create everything by myself.”
In 2006, Isungset helped start the Ice Music Festival in Europe. It is held in February. Almost everything at the Ice Music Festival is frozen. “As you can imagine, there is a lot to prepare for an ice concert,” Isungset says, “We come to a place, we gather the ice, and we build the concert hall out of snow and ice.”
“For the festival, I have a goal of trying to invent a new instrument every year,” Isungset says, “When the show is over, we give everything back to nature.”
Instruments include ice horns. “Would your lips stick to it? Many people ask that question,” Isungset says. “If the horn was made out of metal, they would get stuck completely.” His solution? Use a small piece of leather. Place it on the horn’s mouthpiece. “It’s the only part of my instrument that is not made of ice.”
4. What are Isungset’s new instruments mainly made of?
A. Metal. B. Ice. C. Paper. D. Leather.
5. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. When Isungset fell in love with music.
B. Why Isungset gave an online concert.
C. How Isungset got to make his new instruments.
D. Where Isungset bought his favourite books.
6. What will become of the new instruments after each festival?
A. They will be sold to the audience. B. They will be shown in museums.
C. They will be stored in factories. D. They will be given back to nature.
7. Which of the following best describes Isungset?
A. Romantic. B. Professional. C. Creative. D. Generous.

根据第三段“Isungset got the idea for ice music more than 20 years ago. “I was asked to do a concert in a frozen waterfall,” he says. This gave him the idea to play instruments that were actually made out of ice. As far as he could tell, this hadn’t been done before. “There were no books to read about it — nothing on the Internet,” he says, “So I had to create everything. by myself.”(Isungset在二十多年前萌生了冰乐创作的想法。“当时有人邀请我在一处冰封瀑布举办音乐会。”他说道。这次经历让他产生了制作冰制乐器进行演奏的念头。据他所知,此前从来没有人做过这件事。“没有相关书籍可供查阅,网上也找不到任何相关资料,” 他说,“所以所有一切都只能靠我自己摸索创造。”)”可知,本段主要讲述Isungset是如何萌生想法、开始制作冰制乐器的。
6.细节理解题。根据第五段“When the show is over, we give everything back to nature.(演出结束后,我们会把所有东西归还大自然。)”
根据第三段“As far as he could tell, this hadn’t been done before. “There were no books to read about it — nothing on the Internet,” he says, “So I had to create everything by myself.”(据他所知,此前从未有人尝试过这件事。“没有任何相关书籍可供参考,网上也一点资料都找不到,” 他说,“所以所有东西都只能由我自己摸索创作。”)”以及第五段 “For the festival, I have a goal of trying to invent a new instrument every year.(为这场音乐节,我给自己定下目标:每年都尝试打造一款全新的乐器。)”

Schools Need Rules for AI, Not a Total Ban
Schools Need Rules for AI, Not a Total Ban
A backlash against artificial intelligence is growing. People worry about deepfakes, poor decisions made by machines and students using chatbots to avoid thinking. In education, these concerns are serious. If a program writes an essay or solves a problem for a learner, the finished work may look impressive while the learner has gained little. Yet banning AI from every classroom would solve the wrong problem.
Schools have faced similar choices before. Calculators were once feared because they might weaken basic arithmetic. Instead of rejecting them forever, teachers decided when students should calculate by hand and when a calculator could support more advanced work. AI requires the same kind of boundary. It can explain an unfamiliar term, offer feedback on a draft or produce examples for comparison. It should not replace the productive struggle through which students learn to form an argument, test evidence and correct their own mistakes.
A sensible policy would therefore judge the purpose of AI use, not merely its presence. A student who asks a chatbot to improve the clarity of a paragraph after writing it is doing something different from one who submits a machine-written essay. Teachers can require students to show notes and earlier drafts, identify any AI assistance, and explain why they accepted or rejected its suggestions. Such rules make the learning process visible and turn AI use into an object of judgment rather than a hidden shortcut.
This approach is harder than a complete ban. It asks teachers to redesign some tasks and schools to protect privacy and equal access. But education has never been only about producing correct answers. Its deeper purpose is to develop independent minds. Schools should therefore teach students to use powerful tools with discipline, honesty and doubt. The best defence against careless AI use is not ignorance of the technology, but the ability to question it.
What concern about AI use in education does the author recognize?
A. It may remove the mental effort essential to learning.
B. It makes students unwilling to use digital devices.
C. It prevents teachers from giving useful feedback.
D. It produces work that is always of poor quality.
Why does the author mention calculators in paragraph 2?
A. To prove that old technology is safer than AI.
B. To show that useful tools can be integrated through clear limits.
C. To suggest that students should return to basic arithmetic.
D. To explain why schools usually reject classroom technology.
Which practice does the author support?
A. Allowing AI to complete a first draft for every student.
B. Judging AI use only by the quality of the final answer.
C. Asking students to disclose and evaluate AI assistance.
D. Keeping all AI-related work outside the classroom.
Which title best expresses the author's argument?
A. Why Artificial Intelligence Will Replace Teachers
B. How Chatbots Can Produce Better School Essays
C. The Hidden Costs of Classroom Technology
D. Teach Students to Use AI, Not Simply Avoid It
【答案】8.A 9.B 10.C 11.D

D
A green alga (水藻) that grows in lakes and rivers could become the next superfood — helping scientists solve global food supply problems while protecting the environment, a new study shows.
Chlorella vulgaris (小球藻) is a freshwater microalga rich in protein and other beneficial substances. Unlike traditional farming, which requires large areas of land and water, it can be grown in an environmentally friendly way with little harm to nature.
The Chlorella vulgaris can be added to food products to boost their nutritional value. With its ability to fight harmful molecules (分子) in the body and support the immune system, and help remove toxins (毒素), Chlorella vulgaris shows great promise as a health-promoting food ingredient.
Researchers at the University of Birmingham believe that, although Chlorella vulgaris has great potential, overcoming the challenges of expanding production and increasing consumer appeal will be key focuses for future research.
“As people become more interested in healthy and environmentally friendly products, Chlorella vulgaris could be one of the superfoods that reshape the future of food,” says Dr. Helen Onyeaka. “Our study highlights the important role of research in solving global food supply problems while promoting environmental sustainability. We found that Chlorella vulgaris not only meets the growing demand for sustainable food sources but also offers significant health benefits. Its future market performance is highly expected.”
Chlorella vulgaris has been used as a food supplement and is available in powder and tablet forms. Adding it to food products can improve their taste, texture, and appearance. However, researchers note that addressing current challenges and improving production methods will be important for its successful use in the food industry.
12. What makes growing Chlorella vulgaris different from traditional farming?
A. It is more friendly to the environment. B. It needs more land and water.
C. It causes much land pollution. D. It requires more technology.
13. What does the underlined word “boost” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Destroy. B. Start. C. Decrease. D. Improve.
14. What is one main focus for future research on Chlorella vulgaris?
A. How to cut its production costs. B. How to explore its great potential.
C. How to improve its nutritional value. D. How to produce more Chlorella vulgaris.
15. What can we learn about Chlorella vulgaris from Dr. Helen’s words?
A. It can solve the global food problems.
B. It will have a promising market future.
C. It will be the best superfood for health.
D. It can replace traditional sustainable foods.

Harry was a 14-year-old boy. He was a quiet junior high school student. He was not an inventor, but he helped people change.
He was the one who often cleaned out his family’s fridge. Every Sunday, he would find forgotten leftovers, wilted (枯萎的) vegetables, and expired yogurts that were not safe to eat. “We just bought this last week!” his mom would sigh, throwing a half-full box into the bin. The waste bothered Harry: It was like throwing money and food away straight into the trash.
Then a simple idea came up to him. He began writing “EAT ME FIRST!” on sticky notes and putting them on the leftovers. It worked a little, but he still wanted a better system.
For his school science project, Harry created “Keeper Tags.” They were simple, colorful magnetic tags with a dial (转盘) you could turn. Each tag had three colored parts: Green (Fresh!) , Yellow (Eat Soon!) , and Red (Last Call!) . When you put food in the fridge, you clipped a tag to it, turned the dial to green, and wrote the food’s name. After a few days, you turned the dial to yellow, then to red. Soon, the fridge door was full of bright colors that showed what to eat first.
Harry tested the tags in his house for a month. Their food waste dropped by nearly70%. All his family loved the colourful reminder. It even became a game for his 5-year-old little sister to check the tags.
Harry’s teacher encouraged him to share the idea online. He posted a short video explaining the problem and his simple solution.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

The response was unexpected. The video quickly went viral, attracting attention from all corners. People were impressed by Harry’s simple yet effective solution to the common problem of food waste. Messages of praise and support flooded in, with many expressing their eagerness to try out the Keeper Tags in their own homes. Some even suggested improvements or offered to help spread the idea further. Harry was overwhelmed by the positive feedback, feeling a sense of accomplishment he had never experienced before.
Before long, many families began using their own Keeper Tags. The colorful magnetic tags became a popular sight in fridges across the neighborhood and even beyond. Stores started selling similar products inspired by Harry’s invention, and he was invited to share his story on local TV shows and in newspapers. More importantly, the amount of food waste in these families significantly decreased, just like in Harry's home. Harry’s simple idea had sparked a movement, proving that even a small change could make a big difference in the world.

C. Creative. D. Generous.

8. What concern about AI use in education does the author recognize?
A. It may remove the mental effort essential to learning.
B. It makes students unwilling to use digital devices.
C. It prevents teachers from giving useful feedback.
D. It produces work that is always of poor quality.
9. Why does the author mention calculators in paragraph 2?
A. To prove that old technology is safer than AI.
B. To show that useful tools can be integrated through clear limits.
C. To suggest that students should return to basic arithmetic.
D. To explain why schools usually reject classroom technology.
10. Which practice does the author support?
A. Allowing AI to complete a first draft for every student.
B. Judging AI use only by the quality of the final answer.
C. Asking students to disclose and evaluate AI assistance.
D. Keeping all AI-related work outside the classroom.
11. Which title best expresses the author's argument?
A. Why Artificial Intelligence Will Replace Teachers
B. How Chatbots Can Produce Better School Essays
C. The Hidden Costs of Classroom Technology
D. Teach Students to Use AI, Not Simply Avoid It
