Music is not just for fun. Scientists have found that learning music can change our brains in good ways. A study followed 200 primary students for two years. Half of them took music lessons after school, while the other half did not.
After two years, the students who learned music showed better memory and higher scores in math and reading. Researchers said playing an instrument trains the brain to notice patterns and control attention.
Also, music helps with feelings. When students feel worried before exams, listening to calm music for 15 minutes can lower their stress. A student named Lily said, "I play the piano when I'm tired. It makes me happy again."
However, experts remind us that music training needs time. Just listening is not enough; active playing brings the biggest benefit. Schools should give students more chances to learn real instruments, not only enjoy pop songs.
In short, music is a powerful tool for both the mind and the heart.
1. How many students took part in the study?
A. 100. B. 200. C. 400. D. 20.
2. What improved for students who learned music?
A. Only their hearing.
B. Memory and school scores.
C. Their sports skills.
D. Their eating habits.
3. How does Lily deal with tiredness?
A. By sleeping. B. By playing piano.
C. By watching TV. D. By reading.
4. What do experts say about getting the biggest benefit?
A. Only listening to music.
B. Active playing of instruments.
C. Singing pop songs.
D. Watching music videos.
5. What is the best title for the passage?
A. How to Play the Piano
B. Music: Good for Mind and Heart
C. The History of Music
D. Why Students Dislike Exams
