The History of Football
Football is one of the oldest and most popular sports in the world. But do you know where it came from?
Over 2,000 years ago, the ancient Chinese played a game called *cuju*. People kicked a leather ball filled with feathers into a small net. This is believed to be the earliest form of football. Later, the ancient Greeks and Romans also played similar ball games.
Modern football as we know it began in England in the 19th century. In 1863, the Football Association (FA) was formed in London. They wrote the first set of official rules. For example, they decided that players could not touch the ball with their hands. This is why football is also called "soccer" in some countries.
Today, football is played in almost every country. The FIFA World Cup, held every four years, is the most famous football competition in the world. Millions of people watch it on television. The 2022 World Cup was held in Qatar, and Argentina won the championship.

Table Tennis — China's National Sport
Table tennis, also known as ping-pong, is one of the most popular sports in China. It is often called China's "national sport" because Chinese players have won most of the world championships since the 1950s.
The game is played on a table divided by a net. Two or four players use small wooden bats to hit a lightweight ball back and forth. The ball must bounce once on each side before a player hits it. A player scores a point when the opponent fails to return the ball.
Table tennis is not only fun but also good for health. It improves hand-eye coordination, reflexes and concentration. Many Chinese children start playing table tennis at a very young age. Some even begin training at the age of four or five. They practise for several hours every day.
In China, table tennis is more than just a sport. It is also a way to make friends and have fun. People play it in schools, parks, community centres and even at home. During the 1970s, table tennis helped improve relations between China and the United States in what is known as "ping-pong diplomacy".
Today, China continues to produce world-class table tennis players like Ma Long, Fan Zhendong and Sun Yingsha. They inspire millions of young people to pick up a bat and start playing.

参考范文:
Dear Tom,
I'm so glad to hear that you're interested in sports! I'd like to share my favourite sport with you.
My favourite sport is swimming. I go swimming twice a week at the city pool, usually with my cousin. Swimming is a great full-body exercise. It makes me feel relaxed and helps me stay fit.
I recommend swimming for two reasons. First, it's a low-impact sport, so it's safe for beginners and doesn't hurt your knees. Second, it's fun and you can do it alone or with friends.
If you want to start, my advice is: find a good coach or join a beginners' class, and always warm up before getting into the water. Also, don't push yourself too hard at the beginning — take it step by step!
I hope you'll enjoy sports as much as I do. Write to me soon!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
