Lifeguard parents keep an eye on what’s going on with their kids, ready to help if necessary, but stay out of the way when there is no need. Lifeguard parenting is described as a form of care with three stages — open attention, focused attention and active intervention (干涉). Open attention should be a parent’s default (默认的) state. They care about what their child is doing while staying away from them. They let the child operate independently, though their child may get into a play which includes uncertain results and possibility of physical danger. In this state, a sense of trust develops between parents and children, and parents are likely to feel amazed by what their child can do. Focused attention kicks in when parents notice warning signs. They might communicate with their child, reminding them to think through their actions without explicitly telling them what to do. For example, the parent might say, “Do you think that branch (树枝) can support you?” instead of shouting, “Stay off that branch”. Finally, active intervention happens when parents recognize that they must step into a situation to protect their child. One mother told me about her active intervention, which she calls the red-white-blue rule: Only intervene if you see red blood, white bone or blue bruises (瘀伤). Maybe she was joking, but the point is, kids grow up well when parents provide a safe environment and then get out of the way. The goal is to spend most of the time in open attention. Focused attention might happen only once every few days, and active intervention should be seldom. I’d love to see “lifeguard parenting” become something we all recognize as being a happy way to raise kids. Kids can do so much more than we expect if they are given the chance. 6.What do parents do in the state of open attention? A.They respect kids’ independence. B.They play together with kids. C.They amaze kids with full attention. D.They protect kids from potential dangers. 7.What does the underlined word “explicitly” in paragraph 3 mean? A.Politely. B.Patiently. C.Directly. D.Confidently. 8.Why does the author mention the red-white-blue rule in paragraph 4? A.To explain the timing of active intervention. B.To show the value of active intervention. C.To stress the safety of active intervention. D.To draw readers’ attention to active intervention. 9.What effect may lifeguard parenting have according to the last paragraph? A.Kids can show potential abilities. B.Parents can live a traditional life. C.Kids can learn from lifeguards. D.Parents can have full control over kids. More than two decades ago, I was just in senior high. My teacher gave our class a 10 titled “Advice for the Younger Generation”. It was simple — each student had to 11 someone who was over the age of 25, gather enough 12 to write a biography (传记) of his/her life and find out what his/her best life advice was. I considered my dad the best 13 . I had completely 14 this until recently when I was visiting my parents’ house. Later, I graduated from a top university and eventually realized my dream of working in television. My dad is 65 years old now. Andy and his brother Berlin were filled with excitement as they thought of visiting their grandparents again. The big day came at last. After the happy family got ready, they set out for the grandparents’ eagerly. On the way, the brothers were excitedly talking about the fun they had with grandparents. A little blue house with a tall white chimney finally appeared. Behind the house was the forest carrying their good memories with Grandpa. They arrived at the driveway, at the end of which Grandma was waiting for them joyfully. Andy and Berlin each gave Grandma a big hug and then swept to the living room, shouting excitedly “Grandpa, we are back!” Seeing his grandsons, Grandpa was wild with joy and tried to get up with-all his strength from the chair but in vain. A helpless expression flashed on his face. Grandma explained that his health was declining rapidly and couldn’t stand up without any help. But Grandpa declared stubbornly(倔强地), “I can!” Certainly, he was stuck in his boyish way. Mum and grandparents were happy to meet again after a long time. They sat together and chatted about what happened recently. The brothers were soon bored with adult conversation, went out and wandered into the forest. Tall trees stretched up to the heavens with large branches crossing each other, while young ones rose straight like soldiers. Grandpa was once an intelligent explorer. He could tell where the birds came from only by their calls and songs. The trees, birds, lizards, lots of bugs... How many merry moments they spent with Grandpa in the kingdom! But now Grandpa couldn’t get up. This made them worried. Then a bright idea came to Andy’s mind. “Why not make a cane (拐杖) out of a young tree!” Berlin thought it was a good idea. With the tools fetched from the backyard, they returned to the forest to search for an appropriate young tree for a cane. Hardly had they selected one when they got started with their BIG PROJECT. Andy, the elder brother, took on the job of cutting it down, while Berlin, who was younger and more creative, was responsible for decoration. Hard as it might seem to them, they never thought about quitting. After what seemed a long time, an elegant and tough cane appeared. Both of them were more than satisfied with their work and couldn’t wait to rush home. Andy and Berlin handed the cane to Grandpa. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 6 原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究! We should settle the problem right now. 道歉 【固定搭配】 apologise to sb. for doing sth. He apologised to me for being late. Please focus on your study. 钦佩 【固定搭配】 admire sb. for sth. I admire her for her courage. Don’t judge a person by appearance. She chooses teaching as her career. There is a generation gap between us. 有影响力的 【固定搭配】 have an impact on 对…… Music has a great impact on teenagers. Everyone has their own strengths. This sports event is very popular. 责任 【固定搭配】 be responsible for 对…… You are responsible for your choice. I spent the entire day reading. He has a powerful voice. 明显的 【例句】 Obviously, he is right. 巨大的,极大的 【例句】 She is enormously happy. Despite the rain, we went out. 【易混总结】 单词 / 短语 正确用法 错误写法 / 用法 易错总结 apologise apologise to sb. for (doing) sth. apologise sb. for sth. / apologise for sb. 必须加介词 to 引出道歉对象 focus focus (one’s attention) on sth. focus in sth. / focus to sth. 固定搭配为 focus on,介词用 on admire admire sb. for sth. admire sb. sth. / admire for sb. 表示 “因某事钦佩某人”,需用介词 for responsible be responsible for sth. / doing sth. be responsible to sth. 负责用 for,不用 to despite despite + 名词 / 代词 / 动名词 despite + 句子(如 despite it rained) despite 是介词,不能引导从句,同义用 although/though 接句子 impact have an impact on sth. have impact in sth. /impact on sth.(无冠词) 固定搭配需加不定冠词 an,介词用 on ignore ignore sth./sb. ignore of sth. / ignore doing sth. ignore 是及物动词,直接接宾语,不加介词 settle settle for sth.(勉强接受);settle down(安定) settle for to do sth. / settle to sth. settle for 后接名词 / 代词,不接不定式;settle down 是固定短语 throughout throughout + 名词(如 throughout the year) throughout + 句子 throughout 是介词,后接名词,不能引导从句 now and then 中间无连字符,分开写 now and then now-and-then / now and than 短语固定写法,and 后是 then 不是 than in the lead 中间加 the,in the lead in lead / on the lead 固定搭配为 in the lead,表 “领先” judge judge by/from sth. judge with sth. The living room. I told him I try to be a lifeguard parent. 【答案】6.A 7.C 8.A 9.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第二段中“Open attention should be a parent’s default (默认的) state. They care about what their child is doing while staying away from them. They let the child operate independently, though their child may get into a play which includes uncertain results and possibility of physical danger.(开放关注应该是父母的默认状态。 故选A。 7. 根据第三段中“Focused attention kicks in when parents notice warning signs. They might communicate with their child, reminding them to think through their actions without explicitly telling them what to do.(当父母注意到警告信号时,集中注意力就开始起作用了。 根据第四段中“Finally, active intervention happens when parents recognize that they must step into a situation to protect their child. One mother told me about her active intervention, which she calls the red-white-blue rule: Only intervene if you see red blood, white bone or blue bruises 故选A。 9. 根据最后一段中“The goal is to spend most of the time in open attention. Focused attention might happen only once every few days, and active intervention should be seldom. I’d love to see “lifeguard parenting” become something we all recognize as being a happy way to raise kids. Kids can do so much more than we expect if they are given the chance.(我们的目标是把大部分时间花在开放关注上。 故选A。 More than two decades ago, I was just in senior high. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】    Andy and Berlin handed the cane to Grandpa. Seeing the carefully crafted gift, Grandpa’s eyes widened in surprise, then softened with emotion. He reached out with slightly trembling hands, his fingers slowly tracing the smooth surface of the wood.  Tears welled up in the corner of his eye as he looked at his grandsons' hopeful faces. With the cane firmly in his grasp, he took a deep breath and, using the chair for initial support, began to push himself up. Andy and Berlin held their breath, watching intently. Leaning on the sturdy cane, Grandpa managed to rise to his feet, a triumphant smile breaking through his previously stubborn expression. “I... I did it,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion, standing steadily with the help of the love and effort woven into the simple wooden cane. 词汇激活 行为类 ①伸出:reach out /stretch out/hold out ②抚摸:trace /stroke/caress ③站立:rise to his feet /stand up /get to his feet 情绪类 ①惊讶:in surprise /astonished/wide-eyed ②感动:with emotion /touched/moved ③欣喜:triumphant /joyful/pleased 【点睛】[高分句型 1].
