(本题10分)The alarm rang at 6 AM, pulling me from restless sleep troubled by anxiety about my first day. Bad dreams from last night’s movie and endless questions — What to wear? Who will I sit with? — had left me tired.
The train ride to school deepened my worry. Crowded carriages and messy stations contrasted sharply with my welcome day memories of bright flowers and lovely grass. Stepping into the building felt like entering a different world.
Morning classes passed smoothly. English class introduced themes and activities, while an occasional look at a flying bird outside the window offered distraction. By lunchtime, my anxiety about being alone reached its highest point. Though I ate alone, the acceptable pizza and quiet corner felt like “small victories”.
Chemistry class brought relief. A pat on my shoulder introduced Samantha, who needed to share my textbook. Our whispered conversations revealed shared interests, ending with exchanged phone numbers. This connection brightened the day.
On my way home, the empty train carriage reflected my lifted spirits. Charlie, my childhood friend, listened as I shared the day. His own smooth experience — effortless friendships and easy classes — showed our differences. Falling onto my bed, I let out a deep breath. The cycle would repeat tomorrow, but surviving Day One had brought hopefulness.

C
Around one million people depend on American Sign Language (ASL) as their primary way to communicate. While ASL plays a significant role in children’s language development, mastering it often presents great challenges.
Data show that 98 percent of hearing-impaired (听力受损) people do not receive their education in sign language and 72 percent of families do not communicate by signing. Given that nine-out-of-ten children who are deaf are born to hearing parents, learning sign language is an essential pathway to communication and connection within these families.
Now, a new app makes it easier to learn. Fingerspelling.xyz, an app from Hello Monday — a creative studio — employs webcams to track users’ hand movements while checking their accuracy (准确性). It initially presents users with a series of words and also the corresponding hand positions. Then they practice each sign, getting real-time feedback (反馈) until they can properly complete the word. Although the app will not make them fluent in ASL, the creators hope that it will encourage people to further take a course on ASL and fingerspelling.
The new app is different from other language apps because of its gaming-like technology, which offers a more engaging learning experience than the traditionally used methods of learning sign language based on books and videos. It’s important to note that in ASL, fingerspelling is used for names, when there is no sign for a word, or when a person doesn’t know the sign.
Available for free, the game was created together with The American Society for Deaf Children, an organization devoted to bringing families together through sign language. The organization also offers online courses and a collection of children’s stories that were translated (翻译) into ASL. All these tools are driven by a fundamental belief that language is a gift which is too important not to share.
28.(0分)What does the author imply in paragraph 2?
A.Many people don’t take ASL seriously. B.ASL should be promoted to a wider population.
C.It is too difficult for people to learn ASL. D.ASL enjoys great popularity in the country.
29.How does the app Fingerspelling.xyz work?
A.By displaying and correcting the hand positions.
B.By recognizing and translating the texts.
C.By collecting and researching the user’s feedback.
D.By tracking and meeting the user’s requirement.
30.What is special about Fingerspelling.xyz?
A.It enables its users to master ASL. B.It includes various books and videos.
C.It makes the learning more attractive. D.It is available at no cost.
31.What is the purpose of the text?
A.To recommend a product B.To record an event.
C.To introduce an organization. D.To comment on an invention.

Our bodies weren’t made to sit for hours in a classroom. That may be why many kids struggle to stay focused in school, often losing track of lessons. High-intensity (高强度) break exercises can help students focus better. Just a few minutes of activity improves brain function and learning, new research shows, offering a simple solution for classroom problems.
Eric Drollette wondered how little exercise was needed to improve focus. He’s an exercise expert at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He led a team that designed a nine-minute, high-intensity break exercise program that could be done in a classroom without extra equipment. It uses short periods of heart-beating activity with short breaks in between. For example, high knees, star jumps, jumping jacks, hops and kicks. They described it in Psychology of Sport and Exercise, a leading academic journal.
Twenty-five students aged 9 to 12 tried out the program. At Drollette’s lab, they wore a heart rate monitor (监测器) and an EEG hat that recorded brain activity in real time. Then they did the high-intensity break exercises, rode an exercise bike or watched a short video. After each activity, participants did some tests. One test showed five fish in a line on a screen, and kids had to note which direction the center fish faced. Other tests focused on math or language skills.
During the fish test, the team noticed a change in what Drollette calls “the uh-oh mechanism” — when you realize you made a mistake. High-intensity exercise reduced that response, suggesting that exercise had made kids’ brains more efficient at processing information. Students also performed better on the language tests after the high-intensity workout. But they did a little worse at math. That could be from tiredness, which tends to affect higher-level thinking tasks, Drollette says.
Being active can help with both mental and physical health, says Drollette. His recommendation: “Find opportunities to stand up and get moving, even for a few minutes, to keep your brain sharp and your body healthy.”
32.(0分)What is the nine-minute program designed for?
A.Helping students get better at focusing.
B.Training students’ physical strength.
C.Making students more active in sports.
D.Assisting students to relax after class.
33.What were the 25 students required to do in Drollette’s lab?
A.They only did high-intensity exercise.
B.They wore equipment to record brain activity.
C.They did tests before doing any activity.
D.They watched videos for a long time.
34.What effect did high-intensity break exercise have on students?
A.It made students better at math. B.It reduced students’ tiredness.
C.It improved students’ language tests. D.It made students’ brains slower.
35.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.Short Breaks: A Cure for Students’ Tiredness
B.High-Intensity Break Exercises: A Way to Improve Math
C.Short Breaks: A Solution to Building Health
D.High-Intensity Break Exercises: An Aid for Students’ Focus

In today’s world, we are constantly surrounded by media — from newspapers and television to social media. Faced with this flood of messages, how can we tell what’s true, what’s one-sided, and what’s designed to influence us? 36(0分)
Media literacy (素养) is the ability to recognize different types of media and understand the messages they’re sending. It’s recognized as a key skill in the 21st century. 37 Therefore, learning how to think critically about media is not just helpful — it’s important.
38 As early as the 1920s, organizations in the UK encouraged people to be more careful media users. At the time, the goal was mostly to protect audiences, especially young people, from media influence. However, with the spread of television, media consumption only grew, while interest in teaching media literacy decreased.
Things began to change again with the arrival of the Internet and mobile devices. 39 This change led educators and researchers to renew their focus — not on avoiding media, but on using it wisely.
Research proves the benefits of education of media literacy. Media literacy programs can make young women less unhappy with their bodies, especially those facing unrealistic beauty standards. 40 These findings suggest that media literacy not only protects us from harm, but also supports healthier living.
So, how can we practice media literacy? Experts suggest examining media through four parts: cognitive (what it says), emotional (how it feels), aesthetic (how it looks), and moral (what values it promotes). By doing so, we become more active and good media users.
A.That’s where media literacy comes in.
B.The concept of media literacy has a long history.
C.This is likely to promote your health and happiness.
D.They can also prevent the spread of false information.
E.Now, people can access media anytime and anywhere.
F.Studies show that media can influence our behavior often without us realizing it.
G.Modern media literacy education teaches people to question what they see and hear.

W: I’m not sure. The important part is the research process. If we skip that, what’s the value? Maybe we should use it for ideas, but do the writing ourselves.
M: Fine. How about this: we use the AI’s outline as a starting point, but we each develop our assigned section with our own sources and words?

W: Oh, I remember that feeling! The “pre-departure panic”. Are you worried about the academic workload at the university?
M: Not really. I’m confident about my major. It’s more about the daily life. I’m afraid I won’t be able to understand the local conversations at once. Maybe I’ll just stand there smiling like a very stupid person while everyone else is laughing at a joke.
W: That’s perfectly normal. My brother felt the same when he moved to Toronto last year. He highly recommended the “Global Buddy” program. It’s a two-week session before the semester starts. They pair you with a local student, and it’s completely free for international freshmen.
M: Two weeks? That sounds like exactly what I need to boost my confidence. I’ll look into the registration tonight.

I’m Suci, an Indian student. After I graduated from a university in my homeland, I went to study abroad. I finished my Master’s degree in Denmark and Doctor’s degree in Sweden. This experience has taught me a lot.
When you study abroad, the first thing you might notice are the many differences between people. But in a strange way, you also start to see that all of these differences are also universal and people in many ways are the same everywhere. Studying abroad gives you the opportunity to really understand people from different culture background and when you make friends, you learn to hug people’s perfections alongside their shortcomings.
This blessing of knowing many people from many cultural backgrounds taught me to understand myself better, and the importance of deepening my soft-skills.
Do you also have a dream of studying abroad? You can keep what I said in mind.

It was difficult to be in school on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 1967. Every child wanted to be outside to enjoy an unseasonably warm day.It was65 degrees in Chicago. We tried to steal a few hours of outdoor fun after school.
We awoke the next day to a more normal(正常的)temperature of31 degrees, but that was short-lived since the temperature continued to drop. Our Channel 2 weather man P.J.Hoffon his evening broadcast of Jan. 25, told us to expect freezingrain(冻雨),but the snow started falling in the early morning hours of Thursday,Jan. 26.We were told to prepare for 4-8 inches of snow - not the 23 inches that would finally arrive.
The city was paralyzed(瘫痪)by the snowstorm. Mayor Daley ordered the city workers to work around the clock to clear the streets. but the snow fell faster than they could plow(清扫). By Friday the whole city was shut down.
No one at our house went to work or school. Ten feet of snow blocked our door. At first it was fun to be free of school, but we soon earned we would be locked in our home. Little did we know that our snow day would grow into four days of being trapped inside our house.
After a good 24 hours of staying at home, my sister, brother and I were all very bored and driving the adults in the house crazy. They suggested we take our shovels (铲) and go outside challenging us to dig a way to the street.
We were excited to have something to do.Before we made it out the door, our mother asked us to take our brother Robert, who was only about 4 years old at the time.
We began digging, but not thinking ahead we threw each shovel full of snow over our shoulders, filling in the road behind us. When we reached the street, we turned to admire our work only to realize we had filled in the road back to the house. We would need to start shoveling all over again.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】It was then that we realized we had lost little Robert. We were supposed to be watching him, and now he had disappeared into the snow. With no footprints or any other signs to follow, coupled with the thought that our mother would kill us for losing him, we began to shout his name. We looked around and waited for a response. However, there was no response at all. With nobody to turn to for help, we were at a loss what to do next.
Then suddenly we noticed a little hand sticking up out of the snow. It must be Robert. We looked at one another and realized that we must have buried him as we threw the snow over our shoulders. We plowed our way through the snow and quickly uncovered him. Luckily, Robert was safe and sound. We made him promise not to tell Mom we had “lost” him. Robert happily agreed because he thought it was fun to be buried alive and wanted to do it again. But for us, it was not fun at all.
