C.He is impolite. W: I will never invite George to another business lunch with guests again! M: Why? What happened? W: George has the worst manners of anyone I know. A.They never bothered to greet him. B.Their dog often caused problems. C.They often disturbed him at night. W: How are your new neighbors? M: I don’t know really. W: Well, you probably know some heroes, like Mulan, Harry Potter or Luke Skywalker, right? They faced challenges and grew stronger. M: Sure. Mulan is my favorite character. I admire how she bravely challenged expectations and overcame so much. W: Exactly! You can view your own life in a similar way. You don’t have to live a super adventurous life to do it. Start by keeping a journal. Write about your values, past challenges, and what you’ve learned. M: Good idea. What else? W: Try something new. It can be simple, like walking a new route to school. Or it can be dramatic, like borrowing a bike and riding it to school. M: I think I’ll start by walking a new route to school. Are you worried about the academic workload at the university? M: Not really. I’m confident about my major. It’s more about the daily life. I’m afraid I won’t be able to understand the local conversations at once. Maybe I’ll just stand there smiling like a very stupid person while everyone else is laughing at a joke. W: That’s perfectly normal. My brother felt the same when he moved to Toronto last year. He highly recommended the “Global Buddy” program. It’s a two-week session before the semester starts. They pair you with a local student, and it’s completely free for international freshmen. M: Two weeks? That sounds like exactly what I need to boost my confidence. M: Why did you change your mind? W: Well, soon after I arrived there, I got a job in a top Italian company, Ferragamo. So, I decided to stay. M: How lucky! Do you still work there? W: No. I left in 1988. I’ve been a free designer since then. I’ve designed for some Italian companies as well as two American companies. And in the last five years, I’ve also been designing for the British company, Burberry. M: What have you been designing for them? W: Mostly handbags and sometimes shoes and jackets. You know, the industry has changed a lot because the quality of products from other countries has improved a lot. But Italian quality and design are still world-famous. M: Well, thank you for talking to us. 18.(6分)What did Suci get in Sweden? A.A college graduation certificate. B.A Master’s degree. C.A Doctor’s degree. 19.What does Suci think is strange? A.Shared similarities beneath differences. B.Numerous differences between people. C.People’s perfections and shortcomings. 20.Who are the target listeners? A.Students who want to study abroad. B.People interested in cultural differences. C.Graduates who want to get a Master’s degree. 【答案】18.C 19.A 20.A 【原文】 I’m Suci, an Indian student. After I graduated from a university in my homeland, I went to study abroad. I finished my Master’s degree in Denmark and Doctor’s degree in Sweden. This experience has taught me a lot. When you study abroad, the first thing you might notice are the many differences between people. But in a strange way, you also start to see that all of these differences are also universal and people in many ways are the same everywhere. Studying abroad gives you the opportunity to really understand people from different culture background and when you make friends, you learn to hug people’s perfections alongside their shortcomings. This blessing of knowing many people from many cultural backgrounds taught me to understand myself better, and the importance of deepening my soft-skills. Do you also have a dream of studying abroad? You can keep what I said in mind. A The table below is about freshmen’s satisfaction with different courses. And it shows the percentages of first-year university students who rate pre-course information, teaching quality, tutor (导师) support, printed materials, and other materials in three courses: Economics, Law, and Business. Course Pre-course information Teaching quality Tutor support Printed materials Other materials Economics 59% 95% 90% 81% 60% Law 72% 62% 76% 70% 80% Business 95% 95% 93% 94% 91% From the table, we can see that Business receives high scores in all five areas, clearly doing better than the other two courses. Meanwhile, Economics shows a mixed performance, with very strong ratings for teaching-related areas but weaker scores for pre-course information and other materials. To sum up, Business leads in on all measures, while Economics and Law have room to improve. Here is some useful advice for universities to improve teaching. For Economics, universities are advised to provide more up-to-date and complete pre-course materials like syllabus guides and reading lists, and add extra learning materials such as case study videos. For Law, teachers should use case-based teaching; universities can also organize workshop to train teachers in practical, student-focused teaching skills. 21.(0分)What is the percentage difference between Law’s tutor support rating and Business’s? A.6%. B.8%. C.10%. D.17%. 22.What advice is given to improve the Economics course? A.To provide training for teachers. B.To improve the teaching methods. C.To offer the latest pre-course materials. D.To get more students to rate the course. 23.Where is this text most likely taken from? A.A guide to the majors. B.A scientific research paper. C.A brochure for learning tips. D.A teaching improvement report. 根据最后一段中“For Economics, universities are advised to provide more up-to-date and complete pre-course materials like syllabus guides and reading lists, and add extra learning materials such as case study videos. (对于经济学,建议各高校提供更多最新且完整的课程预备资料,比如课程大纲指南和阅读清单,并增加一些额外的学习资料,例如案例研究视频。)”可知,为改进经济学课程所给出的建议是提供最新的课前材料。故选C项。 23.推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“The table below is about freshmen’s satisfaction with different courses. (下面的表格是关于新生对不同课程满意度的情况。)”和最后一段中“Here is some useful advice for universities to improve teaching. (以下是一些有助于大学提升教学质量的实用建议。)”可知,文章首先说明对新生课程满意度展开调查,再用表格呈现具体数据,随后基于数据给出分析,最后提出具体教学改进建议。由此推知,这篇文章最有可能摘自一份教学改进报告。故选D项。 B (本题10分)First day of school can be hard for anyone, especially for 14-year-olds. To help anxious new students, Poly Prep has introduced a special orientation (迎新) program. School leaders believe this program helps students feel they belong and get to know the new school, which makes them less nervous. According to the Poly website, the school welcomes around 35 to 40 new students each year, meaning almost 28% of the ninth-grade students are new to the school. Research shows that the orientation plays a key role in helping new students feel welcome. Avery Canino, a new student, talked about her first day: “At the beginning, I felt completely lost because no one really showed us where to go. The campus was so big and crowded.” However, her day quickly improved. “I met several other new students, and we decided to stick together for all the activities. We even created a group chat that same day to keep in touch!” Avery’s experience reminded me of my own difficult first day at Poly. I walked around the large campus alone, feeling too shy to talk to anyone. It took me almost a whole year to get used to it. Now new students make friends much faster with this orientation program. Every student, whether outgoing or not, should feel they belong at the high school that they worked hard to get into. It seems that this orientation has already positively influenced the experiences of new students. Therefore, Poly should continue holding the orientation in the future to help all new students get a good start, build confidence, and succeed in the years ahead. 24.(10分)What is the purpose of Poly’s orientation? A.To show students around the campus. B.To make students believe in the leaders. C.To get students interested in the program. D.To help students feel better about the new school. 25.What do we know about ninth graders at Poly Prep? A.Some ninth graders need a new campus. B.No ninth graders welcome the orientation. C.Most ninth graders already know the school. D.Many ninth graders help new students directly. 26.What does the underlined word “stick” in paragraph 3 mean? A.Play. B.Stay. C.Meet. D.Walk. 27.Why does the writer think Poly should continue the orientation? A.Because it helps new students to be more outgoing. B.Because it gives students confidence for future success. C.Because it makes students work hard to get into school. D.Because it lets students enjoy different learning experiences. 根据第一段中“School leaders believe this program helps students feel they belong and get to know the new school, which makes them less nervous.(学校领导认为这个项目能帮助学生产生归属感并了解新学校,从而减轻他们的紧张情绪。)” 根据第二段中“the school welcomes around 35 to 40 new students each year, meaning almost 28% of the ninth-grade students are new to the school.(学校每年欢迎约35至40名新生,这意味着几乎28%的九年级学生是新入学的。)” 根据第三段中划线词所在句“I met several other new students, and we decided to stick together for all the activities.(我遇到了其他几位新生,我们决定在所有活动中都stick在一起。)”以及后文“We even created a group chat that same day to keep in touch!(我们当天就建了群聊保持联系!)” 根据最后一段中“Poly should continue holding the orientation in the future to help all new students get a good start, build confidence, and succeed in the years ahead.(Poly未来应继续举办迎新活动,以帮助所有新生获得良好开端、建立信心并在未来几年取得成功。)” C (本题10分)Exams are nerve-racking. The silence of the hall; the ticking of the clock, it is not surprising that anxious test-takers often perform worse than others. Yet recent research in Psychological Science by Maria Theobald at the Leibniz Institute and her workmates suggests that it is not the pressure of the exam hall which causes the problem. It is the pressure of revision. Dr Theobald supposed that if anxiety limited students’ ability to apply known information, highly anxious students would perform worse in real exams than in mocks (模拟考试) or online practice. She therefore worked with 309 German medical students who were preparing for their final state exam. This test includes 230 questions divided into three five-hour periods over three days. During the 100 days before the actual papers, all her volunteers used a digital-learning platform which presented them with old exam questions and recorded their performance. They also took a mock exam 40 days ahead. To assess their levels of anxiety, the research team asked the volunteers to rate their anxiety on a five-point scale in the run up to the real exam and on the day of that exam. Unexpectedly, anxiety on the test day did not predict exam performance at all. What did predict it was the level of knowledge a student displayed in the mock exam and the earlier digital-learning activities. Those who performed well in these also did well in the real exam, regardless of how anxious they were on the day, because the greater a student’s anxiety in the days before the exam, the lower his or her knowledge-gain was during that period, leaving that student with less material to reproduce during the exam itself. This is a positive discovery, for it suggests a change of approach to revision by the anxious test-takers might help improve their results. To reduce the anxiety, Dr Theobald proposes a two-fold strategy for students as they review. First, they can raise their belief in their own abilities by reminding themselves of just how much they know. Second, they can diminish the significance of the test by reminding themselves that, while it is important, it is not a life or death situation. It really isn’t. 28.(10分)What is the key finding of Dr Theobald’s research? A.Anxious students hate taking exams. B.Real exam pressure causes poor scores. C.Pressure of revision affects exam results. D.Mocks are more difficult than real exams. 29.What did the volunteers do in the research? A.They answered old exam questions online. B.They had a mock 100 days before the exam. C.They used a digital platform to reduce anxiety. D.They took a five-hour exam every three days. 30.What does the underlined word “diminish” in the last paragraph mean? A.Weaken. B.Stress. C.Ignore. D.Prove. 31.What can we learn from the last paragraph? A.Taking an exam has a lifelong influence on students. B.Practicing exam-taking skills in revision is important. C.Building confidence can make a difference in an exam. D.Developing a good memory can reduce students’ anxiety. 【答案】28.C 29.A 30.A 31.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第一段中的“Yet recent research in Psychological Science by Maria Theobald at the Leibniz Institute and her workmates suggests that it is not the pressure of the exam hall which causes the problem. It is the pressure of revision.(然而,莱布尼茨研究所的玛丽亚·西奥博尔德和她的同事发表在《心理科学》上的最新研究表明,造成这个问题的并非考场的压力,而是复习的压力。)” 根据第四段中的“During the 100 days before the actual papers, all her volunteers used a digital-learning platform which presented them with old exam questions and recorded their performance.(在正式考试前的100天里,所有志愿者都使用了一个数字学习平台,该平台会为他们展示往年的考试题目并记录他们的表现。)” 故选A项。 30. 根据最后一段中的“Second, they can diminish the significance of the test by reminding themselves that, while it is important, it is not a life or death situation.(其次,他们可以通过提醒自己,考试虽然重要,但并非生死攸关的大事,来diminish考试的重要性。)” 故选A项。 31. 根据最后一段中的“First, they can raise their belief in their own abilities by reminding themselves of just how much they know.(首先,他们可以通过提醒自己掌握了多少知识,来增强对自身能力的信心。)” D You can’t help waking up your teenagers for fear of them wasting their day, but allowing them to sleep longer on weekends may actually be of benefit to their mental health. This is the conclusion of a study by researchers at the University of Oregon and the State University of New York Upstate Medical University, which found that young people aged 16-24 who caught up on lost sleep during the weekend had a significantly lower risk of being depressive (抑郁的). In the study, participants reported their usual bedtimes and wake-up times on both weekdays and weekends, allowing researchers to work out their “weekend catch-up sleep” — the difference between average weekend sleep and weekday sleep. Each subject was also asked about their emotional well-being. Researchers found teenagers and young adults who made up for lost sleep on weekends showed a lower risk of being depressive. The scientists recommend that teenagers get between 8 and 10 hours of sleep every night, but agree that perfect sleep schedules are often unrealistic for teens considering school, homework, extracurricular activities, social lives and — for many — part-time jobs. Biology plays a major role in the problem of lack of sleep among teenagers. During the teenage years, circadian rhythms — the body’s internal clock — move later, making it harder for teens to fall asleep early. “Instead of getting up early in the morning, you’re going to become more of a night owl,” Casement, the lead author of the study, explained. “And sleep onset keeps holding over until age 18 to 20. After that, you will get up early as usual again.” “Depression is one of the leading causes of disability among people aged 16 to 24,” Casement noted. In this context, disability refers broadly to damaged daily functioning, including difficulty in attending school or work, frequent absences (缺席) or lateness. “It makes that age range of particular interest in trying to understand risk factors for being depressive and how those might relate to delivery of interventions (干预措施),” Casement added. 32.(0分)How did the researchers measure “weekend catch-up sleep”? A.By doing a survey. B.By giving emotional comfort. C.By habit observation. D.By direct comparison. 33.What prevents teenagers from getting enough sleep on weekdays? A.Body clock change. B.Late night preference. C.Early parental waking. D.Lack of awareness. 34.What can we learn from Casement’s opinion from the last paragraph? A.Body clock worsens depression. B.Teen depression needs targeted help. C.Weekend sleep cures depression. D.Depression is common in young adults. 35.Which of the following is the best title for the text? A.Tough Choice: Studying or Weekend Sleep B.Sleep Loss: A Hidden Risk for Teenagers C.Weekend Sleep: A Benefit for Mental Health D.Body Clock: Teen Sleep Patterns Explained 【答案】32.D 33.A 34.B 35.C 【导语】文章主要介绍了周末补觉能降低青少年抑郁风险的研究发现。 根据第二段中“In the study, participants reported their usual bedtimes and wake-up times on both weekdays and weekends, allowing researchers to work out their “weekend catch-up sleep” — the difference between average weekend sleep and weekday sleep.(在研究中,参与者上报了工作日和周末固定的作息时间,研究人员由此算出“周末补觉时长”,即周末与工作日平均睡眠时间的差值。)” 根据第三段中“During the teenage years, circadian rhythms — the body’s internal clock — move later, making it harder for teens to fall asleep early.(在青少年时期,昼夜节律——身体的内部时钟——会向后推移,这使得青少年更难早睡。)” 根据最后一段中““It makes that age range of particular interest in trying to understand risk factors for being depressive and how those might relate to delivery of interventions (干预措施),” Casement added.(“这使得这个年龄段特别值得关注,有助于我们理解抑郁的风险因素,以及这些因素与干预措施的实施有何关联,”Casement补充道。)” 通读全文,尤其是根据第一段中“This is the conclusion of a study by researchers at the University of Oregon and the State University of New York Upstate Medical University, which found that young people aged 16-24 who caught up on lost sleep during the weekend had a significantly lower risk of being depressive (抑郁的).(俄勒冈大学等机构的研究得出该结论:16 至 24 岁人群周末补觉,抑郁风险会大幅降低。)” 因此最佳标题是C项“周末睡眠:对健康有好处” E (本题12.5分)A common misunderstanding is that the human brain works on its own, taking in knowledge effortlessly. 36(12.5分) Effective learning requires developing a key habit: putting effort into studying. This approach is known as “active learning”. Listen to the external voice. There are two types of voices: the inner voice and the external voice. The inner voice reflects your personal thoughts, while the external voice comes from others. Although the inner voice can be helpful, it can also slow down your learning process. 37 They both rely on their own ideas and listen carefully to others. 38 After all, asking questions plays a key role in active learning. Whenever you come across new information, make an effort to dig deeper by more questions. The answers you receive will improve your understanding, and the very process of forming those questions is also good for your learning. In short, always stay curious. Seek the truth. Active learners do not accept information at face value. 39 Even when a claim (断言) seems unbelievable, there may be some truth to it. For example, if someone claims that dinosaurs still exist today, consider what evidence supports that statement. Focus on the message, not the messenger. Many people miss valuable learning opportunities because their emotions get in the way. Some might ignore a message just because of who offered it. The opposite is also a problem. 40 What truly matters is the content of the message itself. A.Try to ask questions. B.However, this view is mostly wrong. C.Write down questions when listening. D.Therefore, active learners maintain an open mind. E.Instead, they struggle to uncover the facts behind each idea. F.Views from senior professors usually don’t need more checking. G.Do not blindly trust someone’s words just because of their identity. 根据前文“A common misunderstanding is that the human brain works on its own, taking in knowledge effortlessly.(一个常见的误解是,人类的大脑会自主工作,毫不费力地吸收知识)”和后文“Effective learning requires developing a key habit: putting effort into studying.(有效的学习需要培养一个关键习惯:努力学习)”可知,前文提到的误解与后文强调的“需要努力”形成转折关系,B项“However, this view is mostly wrong.(然而,这种观点大多是错误的)”可承接前文的误解,引出后文的正确观点。故选B项。 37.根据后文“They both rely on their own ideas and listen carefully to others.(他们既依靠自己的想法,也认真倾听他人的意见)”可知,空处应出现they的指代对象,D项“Therefore, active learners maintain an open mind.(因此,主动学习者保持开放的心态)”符合语境。故选D项。 38.根据后文“After all, asking questions plays a key role in active learning. Whenever you come across new information, make an effort to dig deeper by more questions.(毕竟,提问在主动学习中起着关键作用。每当你遇到新信息时,努力通过更多的问题深入挖掘)”可知,本段核心话题是“提问”,A项“Try to ask questions.(试着提问)”可作为段落主旨句,概括本段内容,符合语境。故选A项。 39.根据前文“Active learners do not accept information at face value.(主动学习者不会只看表面就接受信息)”和后文“Even when a claim (断言) seems unbelievable, there may be some truth to it.(即使一个断言看起来难以置信,它也可能有一定的真实性)”可知,主动学习者不轻易接受表面信息,而是会深入探究,E项“Instead, they struggle to uncover the facts behind each idea.(相反,他们努力揭示每个想法背后的事实)”可承接前文,体现主动学习者的探究精神,与后文内容呼应,符合语境。故选E项。 40.根据前文“Some might ignore a message just because of who offered it. The opposite is also a problem.(有些人可能会因为信息的提供者而忽略信息。反之亦然,这也是一个问题)”和后文“What truly matters is the content of the message itself.(真正重要的是信息本身的内容)”可知,此处强调不要因信息提供者的身份而盲目判断信息,G项“Do not blindly trust someone’s words just because of their identity.(不要仅仅因为某人的身份就盲目相信他们的话)”可承接前文“两种极端问题”,引出后文“关注信息本身”的观点,符合语境。故选G项。 三、完形填空 (本题15分)When Alex entered high school, he carried a mix of 41 and hope. On the first morning, he rushed to the 42 desk to get his student ID, but he dropped his pen and papers. A boy named Leo stopped to help — he picked up the papers and 43 Alex a new pen with a smile. “Need a hand?” Leo asked 44 . Alex thanked him, feeling less anxious instantly. In PE class, the teacher asked everyone to join a soccer game. Alex was not good at sports and wanted to 45 at first. Having recovered from his initial shock, the teacher turned around to face the rest of the students. Gradually, the laughter died out. “Sorry,” Mohi said quickly and hurried to his seat. Mohi was jokingly called “little Einstein” by his classmates, because he was so absent-minded that he rarely showed up with appropriate clothing. Today, he wore a pair of funny green shoes that were too big for his feet. And his half-buttoned shirt revealed a very silly red underwear. Actually, Mohi’s classmates always looked forward to such moments that helped to brighten up their otherwise boring school life. Although his classmates found Mohi amusing, they ignored him most of the time. And Mohi seemed too absorbed in his own thoughts to care about making friends with them, either. Mohi’s only friend was Hamed, who sat beside him. One day, Mohi did not show up at school. After school, Hamed decided to walk over to Mohi’s house to check on him. As he approached the gate, he could hear violin music. “Mohi has never played music at school,” he thought. “Maybe, he is listening to a record.” He called Mohi’s name several times but there was no response. As the gate was not locked, Hamed let himself in. His eyes widened in surprise: At the center of the living room, Mohi was lost in playing the violin. With his eyes tightly closed, Mohi played so beautifully that the music seemed like coming from a classic record. When Teachers’ Day came around, a good idea occurred to Hamed. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The teachers and students were surprised to see Mohi walk onto the stage with a violin. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【范文】 When Teachers’ Day came around, a good idea occurred to Hamed. It was the tradition of the class to have a concert for their teachers on Teachers’ Day and every student could volunteer to play his or her favorite music in front of the class. Hamed shared his idea with Mohi. At first, Mohi was unwilling to play. After Hamed told him how talented he was in music, Mohi eventually agreed to have a try. The teachers and students were surprised to see Mohi walk onto the stage with a violin. They had never seen him play any instrument or sing a song in public. But as soon as he started to play, they fell silent. As the last note ended, there was a moment of silence, which was followed by thunderous applause. After the applause died down, Mohi cleared his throat and said shyly, “Thanks to my teachers and classmates for tolerating my absent-mindedness. Thanks to Hamed who always tries to see the best side of me.” 词汇激活 ①尝试一下:have a try/give it a try ②开始:start/begin ③容忍:tolerate/bear/stand 情绪类 ①不愿意的:unwilling/reluctant ②害羞地:shyly/with shame 【点睛】【高分句型1】After Hamed told him what he had thought of his music talent, Mohi eventually agreed to have a try.(运用了After引导的时间状语从句和what引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型2】As the last note ended, there was a moment of silence, which was followed by thunderous applause. D.A teaching improvement report. (本题10分)First day of school can be hard for anyone, especially for 14-year-olds. (本题10分)Exams are nerve-racking. You can’t help waking up your teenagers for fear of them wasting their day, but allowing them to sleep longer on weekends may actually be of benefit to their mental health. 三、完形填空 (本题15分)When Alex entered high school, he carried a mix of 41 and hope. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 试卷第1页,共3页 试卷第1页,共3页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 2 / 2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
