(本题10分)Around the world, traditional crafts are falling victim to technology and globalization. In Hong Kong, Miru Wong Ka-lam is doing her bit to keep the art of Yue embroidery (粤绣) alive. Wong’s hand-embroidered shoe shop, Sindart, is one of a few in the city to have survived the industry. To share her skills, the third-generation owner of the 65-year-old small business holds weekly workshops for those eager to learn the dying art of embroidery.
When family members gather for dinner during the Mid-Autumn Festival, they exchange gifts. Handmade slippers (拖鞋) used to be a popular item to give to elderly members of the family. Unfortunately, the practice is now less common. “When my grandparents started the shop in the 1950s, there were a lot more orders for handmade slippers. Now, it seems that people are more focused on buying mooncakes,” Wong says.
Cheaper, machine-embroidered slippers are another threat (威胁) to the traditional craft’s survival. Wong, however, believes that handmade slippers have better quality compared with machine-made ones. “Machine-made slippers feel different from handmade ones,” she says. “The material is too soft, making the slippers uncomfortable.”
One element (元素) that makes Sindart’s slippers unique is the wide range of designs. “My late grandfather, who founded Sindart in 1958 in a tiny shop, created his own embroidery designs in the1950s,” Wong says.
Wong has made up her mind to give new life to the art of Yue embroidery by adding modern elements and making footwear that is suitable for everyday use. “This includes applying hand embroidery to not only slippers, which is the tradition, but also to other types of shoes. Now I’m studying shoemaking techniques in a shoe factory so that I can achieve this,” she says.
What is Wong’s purpose in holding weekly workshops?
A.To enlarge her business.
B.To practice her embroidery skills.
C.To promote the art of embroidery.
D.To increase her influence in the industry.
25.Why have handmade slippers become less popular during the Mid-Autumn Festival?
A.People think they’re out of date.
B.Old people do not want to wear them.
C.They’re not as good as they used to be.
D.People prefer to buy mooncakes instead.
26.Why are machine-made slippers considered a threat to handmade slippers?
A.They are of higher quality. B.They are more comfortable.
C.They are more affordable. D.They are made of softer material.
27.What will Wong do in the future?
A.Open more shoe factories. B.Expand her product range.
C.Apply hand embroidery to clothes. D.Build partnerships with local shoe factories.

Starting high school is a big step for any teenager, for there are many things about high school that are different from your old school environment, and you will experience many changes.
You will face entering a new school, making new friends in a new class, and getting to know new teachers. These teachers will usually have higher academic expectations than your middle school or junior high school teachers. They want to help you get into college; they expect you to study hard and improve yourself.
Although these are all big changes, they are nothing you can’t handle. There are many different useful resources to help you deal with any problem. Your teachers, parents and friends are there to help you transition (过渡) into this great new time in your life. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to any of these people, there are many helpful hotlines you can call to talk anonymously (匿名地). High school may be a time of change, but these changes should be for the better.
Your high school years are a great time in your life. To fully enjoy your high school experience, try to deal with the situations of your life with which you are not happy. If you feel isolated socially, try to join a school club or group to make new friends.

(本题10分)A recent study conducted by researchers at MIT has found that using AI tools like ChatGPT may hurt people’s ability to think, learn, and remember in the long term. The study focused on students who used large language models (LLMs) to help them write essays (文章). These students showed less brain activity, poorer memory, and lower engagement (参与) compared with those who did not use AI.
The research team used Electroencephalogram scans (EEGs) to monitor the brain activity of 54 students in three groups when they were doing their writing tasks: one group used ChatGPT, one used Google, and the third used no external (外部的) help at all. Over a period of four months, the group that used ChatGPT performed worst in all areas — brain activity, language use, and scoring.
The findings showed that students who depended on AI had trouble remembering or quoting from their own essays. They also felt less ownership of their work. On the other hand, students who wrote without any help produced more original content and had more active brains. Even when students stopped using AI and tried writing on their own, their brain activity remained low. Interestingly, those who started without AI and later used it showed an increase an brain activity, suggesting they were actively trying to combine the new tool with their own knowledge.
The researchers also warned that while AI makes tasks easier, it may reduce people’s willingness to think critically. Many users simply accept the AI’s answers without questioning them. Teachers were able to identify AI-generated essays because they followed a similar structure and lacked creativity.
Henry Shevlin, a researcher from Cambridge University, said that “Right now, there’s no proof (证据) that LLM usage caused lasting ‘brain damage’, but it suggests that AI could possibly form a kind of ‘laziness’”. He added, “We should be careful not to come to conclusions about whether AI is all good or all bad for learning. Some studies show positive results, while others show disadvantages. What really matters is how we choose to use the tool.”
Which group showed the lowest brain activity and poorest performance over four months?
A.The group that used ChatGPT. B.The group that used Google.
C.The group that worked in pairs. D.The group that used no external help.
33.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the study’s findings?
A.The study proved that using AI causes lasting damage to the brain.
B.Teachers could not identify AI-generated essays and student-written ones.
C.Students who went from writing alone to using AI showed a rise in brain activity.
D.Brain activity immediately returned to high levels just after students stopped using AI.
34.What can we infer from Henry Shevlin words?
A.All schools should immediately stop using AI tools.
B.The effect of using AI depends greatly on how it is used.
C.AI is always harmful in education, no matter how it is used.
D.The study’s conclusions are perfect and need no further discussion.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.AI May Weaken Learning Performances.
B.How to Use ChatGPT for Essay Writing.
C.The Rapid Development of AI Technology.
D.Why Teachers Dislike AI-generated Essays.

(本题12.5分)Learning how to study effectively is a lifelong skill that benefits high school students significantly. 36(12.5分) They are often seen to rely on methods like underlining or rereading, which waste time without boosting memory. The following strategies will help you study smarter, not harder.
●Embrace self-testing regularly
Self-testing is more effective than passive review. Instead of passively reviewing notes, ask yourself questions about the material — for example, “What are the key steps of distributed practice?” or “Why is rereading inefficient?” 37
●Practice distributed learning
Doing all your studying in one night is ineffective. 38 For instance, if you’re preparing for a biology test, study 30 minutes on Monday, 20 minutes on Wednesday, and 25 minutes on Friday instead of 2 hours the night before. Spacing out sessions improves long-term memory.
● 39
Relate new concepts to what you already know or have experienced. If you’re learning about economics, relate supply and demand to your experience of buying limited-edition sneakers. Making personal connections turns abstract concepts into meaningful information that’s easier to remember.
●Avoid multitasking at all costs
Switching between homework, social media, and music reduces focus and slows down learning. 40 Those are the last things you’re expected to do. Instead, focus fully on one task for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break — this method maximizes efficiency and prevents burnout.
Mastering these strategies takes practice, but the payoff is significant: better grades, less stress, and lifelong learning ability.
A.Relate learning to daily routines.
B.Connect new knowledge to experience.
C.This active recall strengthens memory and identifies knowledge gaps.
D.Many students struggle with study due to ineffective study approaches.
E.Doing a few tasks at once divides attention and prevents deep understanding.
F.Spreading out study time over several days leads to better learning outcomes.
G.Effective learning demands consistent practice and scientific time arrangement.

When I started my second year of high school, an exciting opportunity came my way: a year-long exchange program in Bath, England. The thought of studying abroad filled me with both excitement and anticipation (期盼). The chance to experience a new culture, improve my English, and make international friends seemed like a dream that comes true.
I managed to apply for a host family, read about rules and how to survive homesickness, and research about Bath on the Internet. With all preparations made, I was on a plane to Bath, my heart racing with a mix of eagerness and nerves.
Upon arrival, the picturesque city with its historic architecture and beautiful streets attracted me. My host family, Mr Smith, Mrs Smith and their son Mark, welcomed me warmly, which immediately put me at ease. After my settlement at their home, I quickly found comfort in my new surroundings.
Then came my first week at school, which, however, turned out to be a whirlwind (一片忙乱) besides a feeling of freshness. The education system was different from what I was used to in my hometown. Classes were more discussion-based and I was encouraged to express my opinions, which I wasn’t comfortable with at first. My teachers and classmates were friendly and curious about my background, often asking questions about my life in China. However, I struggled to keep up with the fast-paced (快节奏的) conversations. The British accent, with its unique slang (俚语), often made it hard for me to understand. There were moments in class when I felt lost, unable to fully understand the discussions or contribute meaningfully. This was frustrating (令人沮丧的), as I had always been a top student back home.
Along with the new experience at school, homesickness began to set in. I missed my family, friends, and the familiar rhythm (节奏) of life back in China. The cultural differences, from food to social rules, made me hard to get used to at times. I found myself missing a taste of my home, both physically and mentally.

I’m Suci, an Indian student. After I graduated from a university in my homeland, I went to study abroad. I finished my Master’s degree in Denmark and Doctor’s degree in Sweden. This experience has taught me a lot.
When you study abroad, the first thing you might notice are the many differences between people. But in a strange way, you also start to see that all of these differences are also universal and people in many ways are the same everywhere. Studying abroad gives you the opportunity to really understand people from different culture background and when you make friends, you learn to hug people’s perfections alongside their shortcomings.
This blessing of knowing many people from many cultural backgrounds taught me to understand myself better, and the importance of deepening my soft-skills.
Do you also have a dream of studying abroad? You can keep what I said in mind.

【答案】24.C 25.D 26.C 27.B

故填to make。
故填an。
be good at是固定搭配,表示“擅长”,符合句意。故填at。
根据句中的you are not very good at some school subjects(你在某些学校科目上不是很擅长),可推断此处表示“认为成为作家是不可能的”,要在形容词possible之前加否定前缀im。故填impossible。
(from) doing sth.
故填what。
括号里给了动词make,其后有up of。由于be made up of是固定短语,表示“由……组成”,本句陈述客观事实,要用一般现在时,主语a big dream是单数名词,be动词要用is。故填is made。

My Opinion on Introducing Tablets into Our Classrooms
The school’s proposal to introduce tablet computers for classroom learning has sparked considerable discussion among us students.
As for me, I fully support this proposal, for it can bring great convenience to our study and make teaching more efficient.
On the one hand, tablets can help us access learning resources quickly. When we meet difficult problems in class, we can search for relevant materials or explanations immediately instead of waiting for the teacher’s reply. On the other hand, tablets can save paper. Teachers can send homework and notes electronically, and we can take notes directly on the tablet, which is environmentally friendly.
I believe with proper use, tablets will become a good helper for our study and promote our learning efficiency greatly.

Recognizing my struggle, people around me stepped in to support me. On weekends, Mr Smith would take me on a trip to many attractions, some even I had only read about in textbooks. Mrs Smith went out of her way to make me feel at home by cooking Chinese dishes. Mike shared his own experiences of studying abroad to comfort me. At school, my teachers were patient and understanding, offering extra help with assignments and encouraging me to join clubs to make new friends. My classmates invited me to see movies, play hockey, and go to concerts. Everyone was warm, open, and never hesitant in offering help.
Gradually, I began to adapt to (适应) the life here. I offered to share Chinese culture with my host family. I joined the school’s debate club, which helped me improve my English and gain confidence in speaking. I also participated in a local volunteer group, where I met people from different backgrounds, each with their own unique stories. These experiences broadened my perspective and helped me feel more connected to my new environment. As the months passed, Bath began to feel like a second home. I developed a close connection with people here that I knew would last a lifetime.
