As my train inched its way into the station at La Souterraine, some three hours south of Paris on a hot June afternoon, the woman next to me asked, “Vous descendez ici?” Her expression seemed to say, “Really? You’re getting off here?” I could see what she meant. Behind the wire fencing lining the platform lay a handful of industrial buildings alongside unremarkable farmland. I had arrived in La Creuse — one of the departments the French call la France profonde — deepest, darkest France — and apparently the country’s least-visited region, north of Limoges. I attempted to find the landscape that had inspired the painter Claude Monet, a landscape that, unlike his Rouen, Paris and London, which he painted many times, remains relatively unknown. In early 1889, several years before he started his world-famous water lily (睡莲) series, Monet spent several months in the countryside near the small village of Fresselines, about an hour’s drive north of Limoges. Like his fellow impressionists, Monet was on the lookout for locations to paint in the open air, and his friend Gustave Geffroy suggested La Creuse, by which Monet was soon attracted. I had arranged to do the circular, three-kilometre route with Monet expert Christophe Rameix, and we were walking through the thick woodland that lines the banks of the Creuse River. Information posts on the path show copies of Monet’s paintings at the spots where he created them. Eventually, after climbing over slippery rocks, we reached the bank from which Monet had looked down, positioning his easel (画架) at a place where two sections of the Creuse River join. “Monet was attracted by the water,” Rameix told me. “He wanted to catch its movement, even its sound.” It wasn’t hard to see why La Creuse had inspired Monet. I only wondered why La Creuse was not better known. 24.(0分)How did the woman feel when the author was getting off the train? A.Relieved. B.Confused. C.Annoyed. D.Encouraged. 25.Why did the author travel to La Creuse? A.To participate in a painting tour. B.To rediscover his interest in Monet’s works. C.To attend Monet’s art exhibition. D.To explore Monet’s less-known inspiration. 26.What can we learn about Monet around 1889? A.He was introduced into La Creuse. B.He perfected his impressionist touch. C.He made friends with Gustave Geffroy. D.He was working on his water lily series. 27.What did Rameix say about Monet? A.He liked painting in diverse environments. B.He aimed to represent water as a solid element. C.He tried to grasp the core of water in his paintings. D.He preferred painting landscapes over other subjects. Scientists have long been studying the brain with a goal of aiding healthier aging. While much is known about risk factors in speeding up brain aging, less has been uncovered to identify ways to reduce cognitive (认知的) decline. There is evidence that nutrition matters, and a new study shows specific nutrients (营养物质) may play a vital role in the healthy aging of the brain. The team of scientists from the University of Illinois, led by Aron Barbey, enrolled 100 volunteers aged between 65 and 75, looking for connections between certain diets and slower brain aging. These participants completed a questionnaire with measures of physical fitness. Blood sample was collected to analyze the nutrient biological markers: a more scientific evidence for what these elderly individuals were eating and drinking. Participants also underwent cognitive assessments and brain imaging. Analysis of this large set of measures revealed two types of brain aging among the participants - accelerated (加速的) and slower-than-expected. Those with slower brain aging had distinct nutrient biological markers. It was associated with nutrient intake similar to what you would get from the Mediterranean diet, which emphasizes plant-based foods, healthy fats, and minimally processed ingredients, offering numerous health benefits. Barbey noted that previous research on nutrition and brain aging has mostly relied on food frequency questionnaires, which are dependent on participants’ own recall. This study is one of the first and the largest to combine brain imaging, blood biological markers and cognitive assessments. “This allows us to build a robust understanding of the relationship between these factors. We move beyond simply measuring cognitive performance with traditional psychological tests,” Barbey says. The researchers will continue to explore the nutrient biological markers investigated in this study as it relates to healthy brain aging. Barbey said it’s possible, in the future, that the findings will aid in developing therapies and interventions to promote brain health. It’s possible that simple adjusts to what we eat could help cut down the risk of diseases like Alzheimer’s. 28.(0分)What is the main focus of the new study? A.The biological process of brain aging. B.The risk factors in stimulating brain aging. C.The impact of healthy brain aging on the senior. D.The potential effect of nutrients on brain aging. 29.How did the scientists analyze the participants’ nutrient intake? A.By testing their blood samples. B.By taking cognitive assessments. C.By tracking their dietary habits. D.By doing psychological tests. 30.Which is closest in meaning to the underlined word “robust” in paragraph 5? A.Abstract. B.Solid. C.Rough. D.Variable. 31.What is expected of the future research? A.It will provide valuable insights into the Mediterranean diet. B.It will develop a new assessment standard for brain health. C.It will recommend a fiber-rich diet to promote healthier brain aging. D.It will contribute to preventing and treating certain brain diseases. In a lab in Italy, volunteers teamed up with iCub, a child-sized robot, to slice a piece of soap using a knife. The task itself was simple. What surprised researchers was what happened afterward: the volunteers’ brains began treating iCub’s hand as if it were their own. The experiment built on what scientists call the near hand effect. When a hand is near an object, the brain pays more attention to it. It prepares to act. Earlier studies showed that this effect can even extend to another person’s hand, but only after working together. The researchers asked if the same could happen with a robot. Volunteers and iCub cut soap together using a knife. Afterward, they did the Posner task, a reaction-time test where images flash on a screen. The results were striking. People responded faster when images appeared near iCub’s hand. Their brains had started to treat the robot’s hand almost like their own. This effect didn’t happen automatically. A study showed that when the robot’s hand was simply placed near the screen, without any shared task, there was no change in attention. Unlike a rubber fake hand, which can trick the brain through sight alone, a robot’s hand needed active cooperation to matter. Attention is paid firstly to the space near another’s hand (human or robot) only after the latter becomes relevant to accomplish a shared goal. The study also measured how people felt about their robotic partner. Questionnaires revealed that the more competent or lively iCub seemed, the stronger the effect became. When participants thought of the robot as capable of feeling or acting intelligently, their brains gave more weight to its presence. The researchers note that iCub’s behavior in the study was pre-programmed. It could not adapt in real time the way humans do. Future robots will need to adjust their actions more flexibly, responding to the pace and style of their human partners. Adaptability could make the connection feel even more natural. 32.(0分)What did the earlier studies find about the near hand effect? A.Brain can easily adopt a new tool. B.Human beings often make mistakes. C.Cooperation can reshape attention. D.Brain treats nearby objects as useful. 33.What was the Posner task used to measure? A.Memory of the task steps. B.Speed of responding to images. C.Impact of screen time on brain. D.Recognition of the robot’s hand. 34.Which of the following can also influence the near hand effect? A.The feeling of the robot. B.The duration of shared tasks. C.How fast iCub is moving. D.How the brain sees the robot. 35.What is the last paragraph mainly about? A.Future research directions. B.Drawbacks of working with robots. C.Programs needed in advance. D.Benefits of human-robot teamwork. Creative expression, particularly through learning and making music, greatly improves well-being and meaning in later life, promoting mental, emotional, and even physical health as people age. For older adults, activities like attending a songwriting workshop or joining a chorus go beyond mere leisure. They become a pathway to what Aristotle called “eudaemonia”, a life well-lived. 36(0分) Music offers a unique way for such meaningfulness, which often grows from deep connection. Whether it is the dedication to mastering an instrument, the excitement of creating music on the spot, or the sweetness of listening to a familiar tune, older adults do not engage in music as lone individuals. 37 Such meaningful involvement can even turn musical tools — a piano, a violin, or a digital device — into extensions of the person. 38 This reflects the saying, “You are what you do.” Some famous musicians travel with their own instruments, which proves how deeply music can shape personal identity. 39 As dancer Twyla Tharp remarked, “Art is the only way to run away without leaving home.” The emotional uplift indirectly supports health by boosting memory, lowering stress, and strengthening social ties — all crucial for aging well. Deep engagement in music adds meaning to later life, bringing happiness through creativity and commitment. 40 Actually, music enriches lives at every age, so promoting creative expression through it should be a central aim in education and enrichment for everyone. A.It’s mostly the result of external entertainment. B.Becoming a “musician” is thus a worthy goal for older adults. C.They bond with others, culture, and their own growing sense of self. D.The more often one plays an instrument, the greater joy one may gain. E.Creative musical experience also provides an escape from daily routines. F.With skill and regular practice, the instrument becomes part of who one is. G.This is not brief pleasure, but lasting happiness that comes from living meaningfully. 三、完形填空 (本题15分)I chose to study engineering at a small liberal-arts (文科) university that doesn’t even offer a major in electrical engineering. 41 , this was not a practical option; I came here for more noble reasons. The classroom was full of loud chatter, with students laughing and talking to each other, but I kept my eyes fixed on the ground, not daring to look up. My family had just moved to the city after my dad lost his job, and I didn’t know a single person here. The strange environment made my hands feel sweaty, and I tightly held my schoolbag strap (带子), hoping no one would notice me. As students hurried to find seats, only one was still empty — right beside a boy named Leo. He, too, was new to the class. He took a quick look at me, then turned his eyes away at once. I walked over quietly and sat down, hoping not to draw any attention. Over the next few weeks, I noticed Leo never joined any group conversations. He always ate lunch alone, seldom spoke in class, and wore the same washed-out blue jacket every day. Some classmates whispered (私下说) about him — they said he’d always had trouble keeping up in school. A few unkind students even said that he wasn’t quick in mind and was hard to get along with. Then one afternoon, our teacher announced we would work on a science project — with a partner. Everyone quickly teamed up until I was the only one still without a partner. Just as I began to worry, Leo raised his hand slowly and asked softly, “Would you like to work together?” I nodded and said yes. To my surprise, Leo knew so much about plants, animals, and nature. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the day of the presentation, our project received the highest score. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 试卷第1页,共3页 试卷第1页,共3页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 2 / 2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高中英语单元测试 —— Welcome unit(较难版01)(解析版) 学校:___________姓名:___________班级:___________考号:___________ 一、听力选择题 1.(本题1.5分)What is the matter with the man’s marker pen? But in a strange way, you also start to see that all of these differences are also universal and people in many ways are the same everywhere. Studying abroad gives you the opportunity to really understand people from different culture background and when you make friends, you learn to hug people’s perfections alongside their shortcomings. This blessing of knowing many people from many cultural backgrounds taught me to understand myself better, and the importance of deepening my soft-skills. Do you also have a dream of studying abroad? You can keep what I said in mind. 二、阅读理解 (本题7.5分)We’re excited you are considering an undergraduate degree at our university. 根据第一段“Her expression seemed to say, “Really? 【答案】28.D 29.A 30.B 31.D 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一个关于营养物质和大脑健康之间的关系的研究,解释了研究开展的经过以及发现。 【详解】28.细节理解题。根据第一段“There is evidence that nutrition matters, and a new study shows specific nutrients (营养物质) may play a vital role in the healthy aging of the brain. 【答案】32.C 33.B 34.D 35.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一项关于人类与机器人合作的研究,研究发现人类在与机器人共同完成任务后,大脑会将机器人的手视为自己的一部分,且这种效应受多种因素影响,同时文章还探讨了未来研究的方向。 【详解】32.细节理解题。根据第二段中“When a hand is near an object, the brain pays more attention to it. 【答案】36.G 37.C 38.F 39.E 40.B 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了音乐创作和参与能提升老年人幸福感与意义感,促进身心健康;通过乐器练习和社群联结,实现亚里士多德所说的“美好生活”,值得作为终身教育核心目标。 【详解】36.根据上文“For older adults, activities like attending a songwriting workshop or joining a chorus go beyond mere leisure. They become a pathway to what Aristotle called “eudaemonia”, a life well-lived.(对于老年人而言,参加歌曲创作工作坊或加入合唱团等活动的意义远不止是休闲娱乐。它们成为了一条通往亚里士多德所称的‘幸福生活’,即:一种有意义的生活的途径)”可知,本段主要是讲老年人参加音乐相关活动可以提升幸福感。由此可知,G. (这并非短暂的快乐,而是源自有意义生活的持久幸福)符合语境。故选G项。 37.根据上文“Music offers a unique way for such meaningfulness, which often grows from deep connection. Whether it is the dedication to mastering an instrument, the excitement of creating music on the spot, or the sweetness of listening to a familiar tune, older adults do not engage in music as lone individuals. (音乐提供了一种独特的方式来实现这种意义,这种意义往往源于深厚的联系。无论是致力于精通一种乐器、即兴创作音乐的兴奋感,还是聆听熟悉的旋律时的愉悦感,老年人并非独自一人参与音乐活动)”可知,本段主要讲老人参与音乐活动时不是独自一人,而是会和他人联系。由此可知,C. They bond with others, culture, and their own growing sense of self.(他们与他人、文化以及自己不断成长的自我产生了联系)符合语境。故选C项。 38.根据上文“Such meaningful involvement can even turn musical tools — a piano, a violin, or a digital device — into extensions of the person.(这种有意义的参与甚至可以使音乐工具——钢琴、小提琴或数字设备——成为个人的延伸)”及下文“This reflects the saying, ‘You are what you do.’”(这印证了那句老话:“你就是你所做之事。”)可知,学习演奏乐器可以影响演奏者的性格。由此可知,F. With skill and regular practice, the instrument becomes part of who one is.(凭借技巧和定期练习,乐器会成为一个人的一部分)符合语境。故选F项。 39.该空为段首句,应概括下文内容。根据下文“As dancer Twyla Tharp remarked, ‘Art is the only way to run away without leaving home.’ The emotional uplift indirectly supports health by boosting memory, lowering stress, and strengthening social ties — all crucial for aging well.(正如舞蹈家特瓦拉·特帕所说:艺术是唯一无需离开家就能逃离现实的方式。’这种情感上的振奋能间接促进健康,提升记忆力、减轻压力,并加强社会联系——这些都是延年益寿所必需的要素)”可知,本段主要讲学习音乐等艺术形式可以使人逃离现实生活中的烦恼,缓解压力。由此可知,E. Creative musical experience also provides an escape from daily routines.(富有创意的音乐体验还能让人暂时摆脱日常的繁琐事务)符合语境。故选E项。 40.根据上文“Deep engagement in music adds meaning to later life, bringing happiness through creativity and commitment.(对音乐的深度投入能让晚年生活更有意义,通过创造力和投入感带来快乐)”可知,作者认为深入学习音乐使老年人的生活更有意义,也能带来快乐。由此可知,B. Becoming a “musician” is thus a worthy goal for older adults.(因此,对于老年人来说,成为“音乐人”是一个值得追求的目标)符合语境,建议老年人学习音乐。故选B项。 三、完形填空 (本题15分)I chose to study engineering at a small liberal-arts (文科) university that doesn’t even offer a major in electrical engineering. 41 , this was not a practical option; I came here for more noble reasons. I’m writing to share with you my life as a senior high student. The first semester is drawing to a close, and I’ve experienced many changes. Senior high is quite different from junior high. We have a larger campus, more independent learning, and closer teacher-student contact. These changes have helped me become more organized and active. Now I can manage time properly and balance my study with extracurricular activities. I feel more confident when facing challenges. Looking ahead, I hope to join a school club and improve my English further. I believe the coming semester will be even more rewarding. Yours, Li Hua 【导语】本篇书面表达属于应用文。要求考生给Tom写一封信,说明你的经历与成长以及对未来学习生活的展望。 【详解】1.词汇积累 结束:draw to a close → come to an end 联系:contact → bond 合适地:properly → appropriately 相信:believe → hold the belief 2.句式拓展 句型转换 原句:I believe the coming semester will be even more rewarding. 拓展句:I hold the belief that the coming semester will be even more rewarding. 【点睛】【高分句型1】I believe the coming semester will be even more rewarding.(运用了省略that的宾语从句) 【高分句型2】I feel more confident when facing challenges.(运用了状语从句的省略) 六、书面表达 67.(本题25分)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 It was the first morning of my senior high school life, and my heart wouldn’t stop racing. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 To my surprise, Leo knew so much about plants, animals, and nature. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the day of the presentation, our project received the highest score. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: To my surprise, Leo knew so much about plants, animals, and nature. He told me he had spent several summers volunteering at a local nature centre. During our work, he explained difficult ideas in a clear and easy way, drew detailed pictures to help me understand, and even stayed after school to help me make our model. I finally realized that his quietness was not a sign of weakness — it was because he was paying full attention to things he cared about. Those rumors about him turned out to be totally untrue. On the day of the presentation, our project received the highest score. After class, Leo gave me a small, real smile. “Thank you,” he said, “for not believing what others said about me.” “Thank you,” I replied, “for choosing me as your partner.” We walked out of the classroom side by side. From that day on, I understood that silence does not mean emptiness, and a simple, faded jacket does not mean there is nothing valuable inside. Sometimes, what is quiet and plain holds the most beautiful stories. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①解释:explain/clarify/illuminate ②绘画:draw/sketch/illustrate ③选择:choose/select/pick 情绪类 ①注意:pay full attention to/give one’s undivided attention to ②在意:care about/be concerned about 【点睛】[高分句型1] I finally realized that his quietness was not a sign of weakness — it was because he was paying full attention to things he cared about. (运用了that引导的宾语从句和because引导的表语从句) [高分句型2] From that day on, I understood that silence does not mean emptiness, and a simple, faded jacket does not mean there is nothing valuable inside.
