Further thinking The tree with flowers is more than just a sign of spring—it’s a metaphor for the Giant’s changed heart. Just as the trees bloom when the children return, the Giant’s life becomes beautiful again when he chooses love over selfishness.. The tree with flowers = joy, the return of love and kindness. What does “the tree with flowers” in Giant’s garden mean? Selfishness brings loneliness. When the Giant keeps the children out, his garden stays cold and lifeless. Kindness brings joy. When he shares his garden, spring returns, flowers bloom, and happiness comes back. Love and openness make life beautiful. The Giant learns that walls (both real and in the heart) shut out happiness, but kindness unlocks it. What can we learn from this passage? Shared joy is a double joy.
