一. Teaching Objectives
Language Ability:
1. Read and understand the passage about health concepts in different countries.
2. Use key vocabulary (e.g., holistic, balanced diet, physical activities) and sentence structures to talk about health habits.
Cultural Awareness:
Recognize universal health habits across cultures (China, India, USA) and respect cultural differences.
Thinking Quality:
Analyze and compare health practices in different countries; evaluate personal health habits.
Learning Ability:
Develop reading strategies (skimming, scanning) and collaborative learning skills.
二、Teaching Key Points
1.Understand the main idea of the passage and extract details about health concepts, food, and exercises in different countries.
2.Master key vocabulary and sentence patterns related to health.
三、Teaching Difficult Points
1. Use the learned language to discuss personal health habits and compare them with others.
2. Appreciate the universality of health concepts across cultures.
四. Teaching Methods
Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT)
Cooperative Learning
Multimedia辅助 (Optional): Use images/videos of Kung Fu, Yoga, etc., to enhance understanding.
五. Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Warm-up & Lead-in
Activity: Show a short video (or pictures) of people doing Kung Fu, Yoga, and American sports (e.g., basketball). Ask: “What are they doing? Do you think these activities are good for health?”
Design Intent: Activate students’ prior knowledge about health activities; arouse interest in the topic.
Step 2: Pre-reading
Activity: Present key vocabulary (e.g., holistic, balanced diet, physical activities, well-being) with simple definitions or examples. E.g., “A balanced diet means eating different kinds of healthy food.”
Design Intent: Reduce reading barriers by pre-teaching difficult words.
Step 3: While-reading
Task 1: Skimming
Activity: Ask students to read the passage quickly and answer: “What’s the main idea of the passage? (It’s about universal health habits in different countries.)”
Design Intent: Train skimming skills to grasp the overall meaning.
Task 2: Scanning
Activity 1: True/False (Page 13, Ex1)
1. Students read the passage again and decide if statements A-E are T/F. Then check answers in pairs.
Example: “Statement D: ‘Schools in the USA provide balanced meals with an emphasis on meat and vegetables.’ Find the relevant sentence in the passage: ‘with an emphasis on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains’ → So D is F.”
Activity 2: Complete the Table (Page 13, Ex2)
Students work in groups to fill the table with information from the passage. E.g., for China: “Concept: balance; Exercises: Kung fu, Tai Chi, Qi Gong”
Design Intent: Train scanning skills to locate specific details; practice collaborative learning.
Step 4: Post-reading
Task 1: Group Discussion
Activity: Discuss in groups: “What activities do you like to promote physical and mental well-being? What other healthy habits do you know?”
Provide sentence frames: “I like ______ because it helps me ______. Another healthy habit is ______, which can ______.”
E.g., “I like Yoga because it helps me relax. Another healthy habit is drinking enough water, which can keep my body hydrated.”
Design Intent: Apply the learned language to express personal ideas; connect text content to real life.
Task 2: Cultural Sharing
Activity: Each group shares one unique health practice from their own culture (or a country they know). E.g., “In Japan, people do forest bathing to reduce stress.”
Design Intent: Enhance cultural awareness by sharing diverse health concepts.
Step 5: Summary & Homework
Summary
Review key points: health concepts in China (balance), India (holistic), USA (balanced meals + activities); universal habits (balanced diet, regular exercise, sleep, positive thinking).
Homework
1. 必做 (Compulsory): Write a short passage (80-100 words) titled “My Healthy Lifestyle”, using at least 5 key words from the passage.
2. 选做 (Optional): Search the internet for a new healthy habit from another country and share it in the next class.
