When did humans first go into space? The story began not so very long ago, 3 the first astronauts were not people—they were animals.
Scientists wanted to make travelling to space as 4 as possible for humans. So, they decided to experiment with animals and test them in spaceflights. Insects, mice, frogs, dogs and monkeys were some of the animals that first went into space. Many of them 5 , but they helped to make space travel safer for humans. For their great service, we 6 forget these animals.
Albert II was the first monkey to go into space in 1949. Sadly, he died 7 his spaceship landed back on Earth.
8 , the result was different for Ham the Monkey. His story ended happily when he returned to earth in very good health.

Second, they water the soil and then plant the seeds. After two days of watering, the scientists see green leaves in every box. They keep on 14 after the plants day and night. In a recent report, the scientists find these plants grow more weakly than “the Earth plants”. Their roots don’t develop well, and some leaves 15 red.
The experiment is very 16 to the scientists. It greatly helps 17 study how to grow plants on the Moon. Now the scientists are studying changes in the DNA of the plants 18 . The Moon is around 380,000 kilometres from the Earth, so it will take us about three days to get there. The gravity in space is very 42 , so we’ll all be 43 around in the spaceship. And we won’t sleep in beds—we’ll sleep in sleeping bags. We need to 44 the sleeping bag to the wall so that we won’t float away in our sleep! Because of the low gravity, our bodies may get 45 , so we’ll have to do exercise every day.

2050: What Will Happen to You?
Our world is changing quickly because technology (技术) is developing fast. What changes will we see by 2050? Let’s read!
▲
Scientists are finding new ways to help people live longer and healthier lives. They study how to slow down “getting old” and even grow new body parts with special small cells (tiny parts in our bodies). By 2050, humans may live much longer than today!
Smarter AI
AI (Artificial Intelligence, a kind of smart computer) may be as smart as humans—or smarter! It can learn by itself and help in many areas, like science and school. Maybe one day, an AI teacher can make special lessons just for you (fit your needs well)!
Smart Cities
Future cities will be very smart. AI can help control traffic: roads will be safer and less crowded. We will use green energy (like wind) instead of old energy (like coal). This makes cities good for the Earth. There will be more green parks, and pollution (污染) will be much lower!
Space Travel
In the future, everyone may have a chance to travel to space! Scientists are making special space homes and new ways to grow food. Maybe someday, we can build homes on Mars (a planet like Earth)!
These new technologies will bring many cool things that seem “not possible” today. But we must use them in a good and safe way. Most importantly: Technology should help people, not take over our lives!
61.Which of the following can be put in“▲”?
A.New studies B.Healthier future
C.Amazing technologies D.Modern hospitals
62.According to the text, the future AI teachers might _______.
A.offer more online classes B.focus more on homework checking
C.make special lessons based on students’ needs D.teach students to create their own lessons
63.What can we see in the future cities?
A.More people and more pollution. B.Taller buildings and busier roads.
C.Safer roads and less pollution. D.More factories and fewer green parks.
64.What can we learn from the “Space travel” part?
A.Space travel is better suited for adults.
B.It’s easy to build homes on other planets now.
C.Few believe we can travel to space in the future.
D.Scientists are trying to help humans live in space.
65.What does the writer want to tell us about new technologies?
A.We should use AI more often. B.They are too dangerous to use.
C.Most people aren’t ready for them. D.It’s important to use them the right way.

Shenzhou-20 Astronauts Returned Safely to Earth
On the afternoon of November 14th, 2025, the three astronauts of the Shenzhou-20 spaceship — Chen Dong, Chen Zhongrui, and Wang Jie — safely landed at the Dongfeng Landing Site. They returned aboard the Shenzhou-21 spaceship, successfully completing their 204-day mission in space.
At first, the astronauts were scheduled to return earlier. However, they had to wait nine days longer because a piece of space debris (碎片) hit the spaceship and made a small crack (裂痕) in one of Shenzhou-20’s windows.
China had prepared a good backup plan for such situations. Following the plan, the crew transferred to the Shenzhou-21 spaceship for their return journey. This was the first time in China’s space history that a different working spaceship was used to bring astronauts back to Earth. During the extra days in orbit, the Shenzhou-20 crew continued to work with the Shenzhou-21 astronauts, carrying out valuable scientific experiments together.
Throughout their long mission, the Shenzhou-20 team completed many important tasks. They performed four spacewalks, moved cargo many times, and did a series of scientific experiments. One successful experiment involved heating a special metal called tungsten alloy (钨合金) to an extremely high temperature of 3100°C.
This smooth and safe return shows the strength and trust of China’s space program. The well-prepared repair plan was carried out effectively. The ground team worked together to finish the mission perfectly, and the intelligent spacecraft responded well. After landing, all astronauts were in good health. The mission marks another great achievement for China in space exploration.

B.The weather conditions at the landing site were unsuitable.
C.They needed more time to complete scientific experiments.
D.The Shenzhou-21 spaceship required additional preparations.
68.How did the Shenzhou-20 crew solve the problem of the late return?
A.They repaired the cracked window during a spacewalk.
B.They moved to the Shenzhou-21 for the return journey.
C.They made their mission shorter and returned at once.
D.They waited in orbit until the window was replaced.
