Our apartment block is in a nice community. There are many families living here, and everyone tries to keep the place clean and friendly. Every weekend, some neighbours volunteer to clean up the shared areas. They sweep the paths, take out the rubbish, and water the plants in the garden.
Mrs Li is one of the most active neighbours. She always says, “Could you please help me mop the floor in the hallway?” and people are happy to help. Last month, our community organised a treasure hunt for children. The kids ran around, looking for hidden clues. It was full of joy and laughter.
We also have a community centre where people can meet and share ideas. Mr Wang, a kind old man, often tells stories about his journeys to different places. He describes the beautiful things he saw and the interesting people he met. Everyone enjoys listening to him.

From time to time, pets show that they are sweeter and lovelier than some people are. Bill—a pet dog from London became popular online because it did something special. It imitated its injured owner in order to show its sympathy for its owner.
Recently, the owner named Russell Jones posted a heartwarming and funny video on Facebook. The video showed that the pet dog imitated Russell Jones’s behaviour while walking beside him, and in just a few days, the video received over 11,000 likes and 26,000 people shared the video.
From the short video, people found that Russell Jones’s leg had been placed in a plaster one, walking along the street with his dog Bill. The dog is seen walking with his paw raised above the ground in order to copy his owner’s behaviour. “I spent 300 pounds to give it a medical check-up, and the doctor said there was nothing wrong with Bill. It just showed its sympathy for me. Love him.” Russell Jones wrote in the description of his post.
According to Cesar’s Way, a website, “A number of different animals imitate others within their own groups. People imitate other people. Birds imitate other birds. Monkeys imitate others in their group.”
“But dogs not only imitate other dogs—they copy what people do as well. What’s even more surprising is that they have been known to do so, even when the imitation is not good for them,” Cesar’s Way shows on the webpage.
Why do dogs copy people’s behaviour? “Scientists think that dogs copy people’s behaviour because of thousands of years’ selective breeding and training. Over time, it became a built-in reaction,” reads a website.
23.What does the second paragraph tell us?
A.How popular the video was. B.Why Bill imitated its owner.
C.How Russell Jones got hurt. D.How Russell Jones loved Bill.
24.What can we infer from Russell Jones’s words?
A.He realized his pet was laughing at him.
B.He thought something was wrong with his pet.
C.He thought his pet needed more care and love.
D.He was unhappy because of his pet’s behaviour.
25.How does the writer show us the imitations of animals?
A.By showing some people’s ideas.
B.By showing some results of studies.
C.By showing some examples in a book.
D.By showing some information on a website.
26.What’s the passage mainly about?
A.Ways to look after pets well. B.The reasons for keeping pets.
C.A kind of behaviour of animals. D.Scientists’ new studies on animals.

24.根据第三段中Russell Jones说的话“I spent 300 pounds to give it a medical check-up, and the doctor said there was nothing wrong with Bill.”
25.根据第四段中的“According to Cesar’s Way, a website...”,第五段中的“Cesar’s Way shows on the webpage.”

From May to November, six beach houses have fallen down in North Carolina’s Outer Banks—a troubling sign of how erosion (侵蚀) continues to take a toll on the state’s coastal villages.
The most recent collapse (倒塌) happened between last Thursday and Friday after a storm caused powerful waves along Rodanthe. The house was empty, and officials have been in contact with the house owner. Less than a mile away, three other homes had fallen down in September. Since 2020, a total of 11 houses in the area have been washed away into the ocean.
Cape Hatteras National Seashore said strong winds, large waves, as well as rising sea levels—which are caused by climate change—are causing beaches on the Outer Banks to wash away. “Many buildings close to the beach in Rodanthe are either partially or fully covered with ocean water on a regular basis,” the Seashore said.
It’s a problem faced by coastal communities around the country. In North Carolina, over 750 homes along the state’s beaches are considered in danger from erosion, according to an August report released by the state’s Department of Environmental Quality and Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Erosion in these coastal villages affects tourism and destroys sea turtles’ homes, and when homes fall down, it leaves ruins (废墟). The situation is expected to worsen as a result of rising sea levels and more coastal storms.
National Seashore officials have warned owners of unsafe houses to either strengthen their home’s supports or move to a safer location if possible.
27.What can we know about the most recent collapse?
A.Six houses were washed away. B.It happened because a storm hit.
C.It resulted in many people missing. D.Police failed to contact the house owner.
28.What might put the beach houses in danger?
A.The daily effects of winds and waves. B.The loss of wildlife’s home.
C.The ruins of houses left on beaches. D.The weak structure of the houses.
29.What should be done according to the local officials?
A.Take measures to control rising sea levels.
B.Solve the problem by protecting the ecosystem.
C.Reduce the effect on tourism by clearing the ruins.
D.Strengthen the house structure or move to new places.
30.What’s the best title for the text?
A.New houses were Built for Safety B.Tourism worsens in North Carolina
C.Rising Sea Levels Put Coastal North Carolina Towns At Risk D.Climate Change leads to Strong Storms
【答案】27.B 28.A 29.D 30.C
根据文章第二段第一句“The most recent collapse (倒塌) happened between last Thursday and Friday after a storm caused powerful waves along Rodanthe.”
28.根据文章第三段第一句“Cape Hatteras National Seashore said strong winds, large waves, as well as rising sea levels... are causing beaches on the Outer Banks to wash away.”
29.根据文章最后一段“National Seashore officials have warned owners of unsafe houses to either strengthen their home’s supports or move to a safer location if possible.”
Snow is one of the things that help to make winter lovable for many, and it should not be far away when Major Snow (大雪) arrives.
In northern China, the temperature usually goes down below zero and snowstorms with dry wind are common at this time of year. 31 Most of the land still remains green and the air is moister (湿润的) with rain and fog.
Snow is welcomed by most Chinese farmers because it can protect crops from cold weather and keep the lands warm. Besides, the melted snow can provide enough water for the crops in the spring. The Chinese even have an old saying for it, “A fall of seasonal snow gives promise of a fruitful year.”
32 It also promises beautiful scenery of silver white and a favorable season for skiing and skating. Many people prefer to travel to northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province during the winter, for there are quite a handful of attractions to visit and they can also have a chance to experience skiing. 33 For example, in Beijing, the lakes in Shichahai and Summer Palace turn into natural skating areas in the winter. Compared with indoor skating, the frozen lakes and rivers, with beautiful settings of ancient buildings, are preferable to many.
34 An enjoyable way of spending time in a warm room is by eating hot pot while admiring snowflakes falling from the sky. It used to be one of the ancient Chinese people’s favorite ways of killing time during the winter.
Whether you stay indoors or travel far, the winter will never be boring with snow. Just remember one thing: Put on your heavy coat and scarf before stepping out.
A.Many Chinese still like to skate on frozen rivers.
B.Staying indoors is another choice on snowy days.
C. There are still some rainy days in winter.
D.But the snow could promise more than a fruitful year.
E. In the south, the winter is milder
Do you like staying indoors or outdoors on snowy days? Why?

31.E 32.D 33.A 34.B 35.Staying indoors. Because I like eating hot pot while admiring snowflakes falling.
根据 “In northern China, the temperature usually goes down below zero and snowstorms with dry wind are common at this time of year” 和 “Most of the land still remains green and the air is moister with rain and fog.”
32.根据 “A fall of seasonal snow gives promise of a fruitful year.” 和 “It also promises beautiful scenery of silver white and a favorable season for skiing and skating.”
33.根据 “Many people prefer to travel to northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province during the winter, for there are quite a handful of attractions to visit and they can also have a chance to experience skiing.” 和 “For example, in Beijing, the lakes in Shichahai and Summer Palace turn into natural skating areas in the winter.”
34.根据 “An enjoyable way of spending time in a warm room is by eating hot pot while admiring snowflakes falling from the sky.”
Staying indoors. Because I like eating hot pot while admiring snowflakes falling.
