Do you want to make a good living from writing? Here is the good news. There are several platforms you can upload your writing to. Meanwhile, you can interact with other writers, build a community and make some money.
Medium: https://medium.com/
Medium was launched in 2012 by Edgar Smith. You can join Medium for free, but you can also become a subscriber (订阅用户) for $5 a month which allows you access to more contents and do more. Medium supports a diverse range of writing, including book-length pieces, poetry, essays, and multimedia presentations.
Simon Whaley joined the platform in 2021, firstly as a reader, and then paid the monthly fee. “This subscription model means there are no advertisements,” he says, “Within four months, my articles were covering my monthly subscription. Substack: https://substack.com/
This platform gained popularity very quickly after it was founded in 2017, seen as a way for writers to build a personal brand.
Nick Winney has been using Substack for over a year and discovered many like-minded writers. It has also opened his eyes to a vast range of writing on the platform, as he explains, “You can find amazing fiction (小说), non-fiction and some very interesting, intelligent people across all types of writing.” He has written forty-seven posts in less than a year, which is the most writing he has ever done.
Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/
This platform is all about stories. It’s been around for a while since 2006 and its founders wanted readers to be able to download an app so they could read and chat about fiction shared by professional writers. It covers all sorts of writing, from romance, to fantasy, to historical.
Eliza-Mari Janse started using Wattpad in 2017 and it was the first place where she shared her work. “Wattpad is a wonderful place to be creative, unique and have complete freedom. Write professionally, just for fun or just try it out. You don’t have a deadline.”

One evening, while I was sorting through my late wife’s clothes in my attic (阁楼), the floor dropped from beneath me. I was used to that falling feeling after my wife, Amy, passed away in 2024. The sight of her things — a piece of medical equipment, a bottle of old perfume — made me feel as if my life were falling apart underfoot. But this time, I fell through the floorboards for real. Fortunately, I was stuck in the cracked floor. I struggled hard and finally pulled myself out. If Amy had still been around, it would never have happened. She was the family’s backbone. I was careless and restless, but she could always slow me down.
I was doing all I could to be a good single parent. I quit drinking and fought my way to good health. I put away the smartphone when my daughter was around. But single parenthood still seemed unreasonable and hard. I often forgot about garbage night until the trash (垃圾) piled up. I burned loads of potatoes while cooking. I even mistook payment reminders for spam mails, which cut off our Wi-Fi. I was doing badly.
However, the day after the attic incident, when I was fixing the hole in the floor, my daughter approached, laughing. “Daddy,” she said, “I’m so proud of you for falling through the ceiling yesterday. That was very avant-garde (新潮另类的) of you.” First surprised, and then I started laughing too. For the first time, our recent “adventures” seemed funny — not just the hole, but the piled trash, the burnt potatoes. Yes, fate (命运) was playing tricks on me. I could laugh or not but the practical jokes weren’t going to stop. I’m beginning to understand that my carelessness is an advantage, not just a source of embarrassment. This is the hardest year I’ve ever shared with my daughter and laughter is how we tell ourselves we might get through this.
4.What can we learn about the author from paragraph 1?
A.He lost his wife in a fall accident. B.He was determined to slow down.
C.He used to be the family’s backbone. D.He was heartbroken over his wife’s death.
5.Which of the following could best describe the author? ·
A.Strict but caring. B.Brave and confident.
C.Careless but responsible. D.Fashionable and humorous.
6.Which is closest in meaning to the underlined word “spam” in paragraph 2?
A.Personal. B.Junk. C.Official. D.Confirmation.
7.What message does the author mainly want to deliver?
A.A broken heart heals with love. B.Accidents bring endless troubles.
C.Weakness can become one’s strength. D.Laughter carries us through hardships.

If the other paintings in the room that houses Mona Lisa at the Louvre Museum in Paris could talk, they might be whispering “Good riddance (解脱)!” to one another right now. That’s because of the French government’s announcement that the world’s most famous painting is to be removed from the Salle des Etats and rehoused in its own space in the Louvre with a special entrance.
This particular space, accessible independently from the rest of the museum, will allow Mona Lisa’s conditions of show and presentation it should have. The move that aims to relieve the Louvre’s overcrowding problem isn’t just great for Mona Lisa. It could also allow the dozens of other artworks in the Salle des Etats by the likes of Titian, Tintoretto and Veronese to finally receive their due.
“People have just been coming to check their ‘I paid a visit to Mona Lisa’s box’,” said Souleymane, a professor of French and philosophy at Columbia University who was appointed by the museum in 2024 to give a series of lectures about its art collection. “And even if you go to that room with the intention of looking at the other paintings, you would be attracted by Mona Lisa.” The other major paintings in the space include Titian’s Pastoral Concert, Tintoretto’s The Coronation of the Virgin, and Veronese’s The Wedding Feast at Cana, which is a huge painting that people don’t look at because it’s on the wall that faces Mona Lisa.
“The Wedding Feast at Cana is one of the treasures of the Louvre,” said Compagnon, a professor at the College de France and at Columbia University. Compagnon is also excited for visitors to be able to pay attention to his favorite painting in the room, Titian’s Man with a Glove.
8.What is the reason for moving Mona Lisa to a new area in the Louvre?
A.To stress its importance.
B.To make room for a show.
C.To draw more visitors to the Louvre.
D.To improve its show conditions.
9.What is Souleymane’s attitude toward the government’s decision?
A.Dissatisfied. B.Doubtful. C.Supportive. D.Unconcerned.
10.Which painting is displayed on the wall opposite Mona Lisa?
A.Pastoral Concert. B.The Wedding Feast at Cana.
C.Man with a Glove. D.The Coronation of the Virgin.
11.What does Compagnon suggest about the Mona Lisa?
A.It needs better protection.
B.It fails to live up to its fame.
C.It should be promoted through lectures.
D.It steals attention from other paintings.
D
Animals have long played a major role in science, helping researchers understand cell communication, nerve signals and medical technology. In the United States alone, millions are still used in basic research and in testing the safety of drugs and other products. Yet scientists are increasingly seeking alternatives because animals are costly, time-consuming to raise and care for, and often poor models for human biology.
As Nicole Kleinstreuer of the National Institutes of Health points out, humans are not simply large rats. Animals can respond very differently from people to the same substances. Aspirin, for example, is safe for most adults but can be poisonous to rats, while some drugs that appear safe in animals fail in humans. More than 90 percent of cancer drugs that looked promising in animal studies did not help people. These limits have pushed researchers to develop methods based on human biology that may be faster, cheaper and more accurate.
One important alternative is artificial intelligence. AI can help researchers analyze papers, screen chemical databases and predict how people might react to medicines or products. In one study, an AI system screened 190,000 chemicals for toxicity (毒性) with 87 percent accuracy, performing better than repeated animal testing. During the pandemic (流行病), AI also helped researchers identify promising vaccine targets faster, reducing the number of substances that needed animal testing.
Another promising approach is “organs on a chip” — tiny devices containing living human cells arranged to copy organs such as the liver, lungs, heart or brain. These chips can reproduce features like blood flow and movement, and in some cases may outperform animal models, especially for diseases animals do not naturally get, such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s. Scientists are now trying to link several chips together to create “body-on-a-chip” systems, which may even be personalized using a patient’s own stem cells.
Although animal research will not disappear immediately, advances like AI and organ models are helping science move toward a future with far fewer lab animals — and, potentially, better science.
12.What do the examples in paragraph 2 intend to show?
A.Drugs function similarly in animals and humans.
B.Animal testing plays a vital part in medical research.
C.Animals are not always reliable for medical research.
D.It is morally wrong to use animals for medical testing.
13.What is mainly talked about in paragraph 3?
A.Why AI works better than traditional testing in accuracy.
B.Why animal testing remains widely used in medical research.
C.How chemical databases contribute to modern animal research.
D.How AI helps make research faster and less dependent on animals.
14.What is the main function of “organs on a chip”?
A.To model human organs. B.To predict people’s reactions.
C.To store data for reproduction. D.To create personalized stem cells.
15.What is the main purpose of the text?
A.To compare different testing methods. B.To introduce new research approaches.
C.To challenge a popular theory on animals. D.To present the latest findings in AI research.
Interpersonal boundaries have consistently been one of the most common topics discussed in our daily life. Boundaries are defined as the limits that determine how close or distant members in a community are and what roles each person plays within it.____16____Many people wonder how they can improve boundaries in a society or relationships. Surprisingly, we can learn a great deal from plants. Below are several plant behaviors and the lessons they offer us.
Grounding yourself in what matters
Plants grow roots that make them rooted securely while absorbing only the nutrients they need from the soil. Without strong roots, a plant cannot survive.____17____When we know who we are and what our core values are, we are less likely to lose ourselves in relationships. If we lose our roots, we risk losing our direction.
Going with healthy defenses
Many plants develop protective structures such as thorns, thick bark, or poisons to protect themselves from harm. They warn: “Approach with respect.”____18____Being able to clearly express needs, discomfort, anger, and limits allows us to protect ourselves while staying connected to others.
____19____
Plants do not grow continuously. They observe natural patterns of growth, rest, and renewal. Humans benefit from similar rhythms. Healthy boundaries include knowing when to rest, step back, and care for ourselves so we can remain emotionally available to others.
Plants are masters of adaptation and survival. Over millions of years, they have developed remarkable ways to maintain balance with their environment.____20____Healthy boundaries do not separate us; instead, they help us protect our well-being and sustain everyone involved.
A.Respecting others’ space
B.Following cycles of nature
C.Humans are able to protect ourselves while continuing to stay connected.
D.Similarly, the base of healthy relationships depends on a strong sense of self.
E.These limits shape our communication patterns, relationships, and overall mental health.
F.Learning to strike a balance allows humans to take in what benefits us while limiting what harms us.
G.In humans’ words, it means guarding ourselves against negative feelings before we’re overwhelmed.

Holidays are not necessarily for fun or rest. Doing something meaningful can also gain special pleasure. When the final bell rang, the students were reminded that there was no school on Monday — Labor Day. “Enjoy your extra day off,” said the teacher to her class. An extra day of fun suited Kayla just fine. She loved breaks. She wanted to go out to play with her friends. When the school bus dropped Kayla off, she ran into the house happily.
“How was school, Kayla?” asked her mom.
“It was great, Mom. I am excited about no school on Monday.”
“You just started back to school two weeks ago. Already in need of a break, huh?” asked Kayla’s mom with a laugh.
Kayla slept in the next morning. Saturday was her favorite day of the week. It rained most of the day, so Kayla enjoyed playing video games inside. On Sunday, her friends came over and they played basketball for several hours.
Then it was Labor Day, you know, the extra day off that Kayla was so looking forward to. But Kayla was awakened early that morning by her dad. He told Kayla that in honor of Labor Day, the family would be cleaning both inside and outside the house. Kayla couldn’t believe it. This was a holiday, a day when she was supposed to be enjoying fresh lemonade while playing in her tree house. As Kayla wiped her eyes, she began to wonder if this was just a bad dream.
“Kayla, your breakfast is ready. We have a lot of work to do today. Let’s get a move on,” said Kayla’s mom. As she sat down at the kitchen table, Kayla asked her parents, “Are you serious about working today? Isn’t Labor Day a holiday?”
“Yes, Kayla. It is,” replied her dad. “But your mom and I thought working hard today would make you appreciate why Labor Day is observed in the first place.”
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
At first, Kayla felt disappointed at her parents’ plan for the holiday.

Dear Mike,
I’m writing to express my disagreement with your plan to cancel the drama course next term.
Drama class is extremely valuable for us English learners. First, acting out plays improves our oral English and pronunciation greatly. Besides, it helps us better understand Western culture hidden in scripts. What’s more, putting on performances builds our confidence and teamwork skills, which no other class can offer. Without drama, we’ll lose a fun way to practice English.
I sincerely hope you can reconsider this decision.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

At first, Kayla felt disappointed at her parents’ plan for the holiday. How eagerly she wanted to go out to play with her friends! She was against the annoying plan from the bottom of her heart, but she had no choice. Sighing heavily, Kayla’s eyes were filled with disappointment. First, Kayla was arranged to wash the breakfast dishes. After that, she was asked to give their puppy a bath. She knew it was a hard task, which demanded lots of energy, patience and care from her. She began the work with great unwillingness.
But things began to change as she was doing the housework. Brushing the puppy, she found it was a lot of fun with so many soap bubbles. Then it was on to yard work where Kayla helped to pick up sticks. She pretended the small sticks were basketballs, and shot them into a large trash can. So the work was done with great pleasure. Kayla felt proud to see how much better the yard looked. When she finished her meaningful chores, Kayla enjoyed relaxing in her tree house. The lemonade tasted wonderful after a hard day of work.

根据第二段“This particular space, accessible independently from the rest of the museum, will allow Mona Lisa’s conditions of show and presentation it should have.(这个独立于博物馆其他部分的特定空间,将让《蒙娜丽莎》获得它本该拥有的展示条件和陈列环境。)”
根据第三段“People have just been coming to check their ‘I paid a visit to Mona Lisa’s box’(人们来这里只是为了打卡‘我参观了《蒙娜丽莎》的展柜’)”以及“And even if you go to that room with the intention of looking at the other paintings, you would be attracted by Mona Lisa.(即使你怀着欣赏其他画作的目的进入展厅,也会被《蒙娜丽莎》吸引。)”
根据第三段“Veronese’s The Wedding Feast at Cana, which is a huge painting that people don’t look at because it’s on the wall that faces Mona Lisa.(韦罗内塞的《卡纳的婚宴》,这是一幅巨大的画作,人们不去看它,因为它挂在正对《蒙娜丽莎》的墙上。)” The Wedding Feast at Cana。
根据第四段的“Compagnon is also excited for visitors to be able to pay attention to his favorite painting in the room, Titian’s Man with a Glove.(Compagnon还对游客能够关注到他在这个房间里最喜爱的画作——提香的《戴手套的人》感到兴奋。)”

根据第三段“One important alternative is artificial intelligence. AI can help researchers analyze papers, screen chemical databases and predict how people might react to medicines or products. In one study, an AI system screened 190,000 chemicals for toxicity (毒性) with 87 percent accuracy, performing better than repeated animal testing. During the pandemic (流行病), AI also helped researchers identify promising vaccine targets faster, reducing the number of substances that needed animal testing.(一个重要的替代方案是人工智能。AI可以帮助研究人员分析论文、筛选化学数据库,并预测人们可能对药物或产品产生的反应。在一项研究中,一个AI系统以87%的准确率筛查了19万个化学品的毒性,其效果优于反复进行的动物实验。在疫情期间,AI还帮助研究人员更快地识别出有前景的疫苗靶点,从而减少了需要进行动物测试的物质数量)”可知,第三段主要讨论了人工智能如何帮助加快研究进程,并减少对动物的依赖。
14.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“Another promising approach is “organs on a chip” — tiny devices containing living human cells arranged to copy organs such as the liver, lungs, heart or brain.(另一种有前景的方法是“芯片上的器官”——即包含活体人类细胞的微型装置,这些细胞被排列成能够模拟肝脏、肺部、心脏或大脑等器官的结构)”可知,“芯片上的器官”主要功能是模拟人体器官。

16.根据前文“Boundaries are defined as the limits that determine how close or distant members in a community are and what roles each person plays within it. (边界被定义为决定群体成员亲疏距离以及每个人在群体中角色的界限。)”以及后文“Many people wonder how they can improve boundaries in a society or relationships. (很多人想知道如何在社交和人际关系中完善边界感。)”可知,此处需要承接前文对边界的定义,继续说明界限带来的影响或重要性等内容。E选项“These limits shape our communication patterns, relationships, and overall mental health. (这些界限塑造我们的沟通模式、人际关系与整体心理健康。)”中These limits指代前文提到的limits,衔接上下文逻辑。
17.根据前文“Plants grow roots that make them rooted securely while absorbing only the nutrients they need from the soil. Without strong roots, a plant cannot survive. (植物扎根稳固,只吸收土壤中所需养分,没有强健根系便无法存活。)”以及后文“When we know who we are and what our core values are, we are less likely to lose ourselves in relationships. (当我们认清自我与核心价值观,就不容易在人际关系中迷失。)”可知,此处用植物扎根类比人建立自我认知。D选项“Similarly, the base of healthy relationships depends on a strong sense of self. (同理,健康人际关系的根基依靠稳固的自我认知。)”通过Similarly完成类比过渡,符合语境。

34.考查形容词。句意:受他这份出人意料的善意鼓舞,我后来去堪萨斯大学学习音乐。A. abnormal反常的;B. unannounced未事先通知的;C. informal非正式的;D. unexpected意料之外的。根据上文“preparing myself for ____. Instead, he smiled and said, “You have a very ____ voice”可知,收获温暖的夸奖是作者没有预料到的,此处是unexpected。
A. worked out解决;B. broke out爆发;C. turned out结果是,最后是;D. figured out弄明白。根据上文“the end of the world”以及下文“to be the start of everything that came after”、“sparked this incredible journey of transformation”可知,这件尴尬的往事最终成为人生道路的转折点,此处是固定搭配turn out to be,表示事情最终呈现出某种结果。

36.known 37.which 38.them 39.are seen 40.wishes 41.to bring 42.on/upon 43.strength 44.Whether 45.the

Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
Dear Mike,
I’m writing to express my disagreement with your plan to cancel the drama course next term.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

2】I sincerely hope you can reconsider this decision.(运用了省略引导词that的宾语从句)
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
At first, Kayla felt disappointed at her parents’ plan for the holiday.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
But things began to change as she was doing the housework.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Between 2022 and 2024, my articles often made over $200 per month.”

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
At first, Kayla felt disappointed at her parents’ plan for the holiday.
