“I cannot play with you,” the fox said, “I am not tamed.”
“What does ‘tame’ mean?” asked the little prince.
“It means to set up a relationship,” said the fox. “To me, you are still nothing. But if you tame me, we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique (独一无二的) in all the world.”
“Please tame me!” said the fox. “You must be patient. Sit down a little distance from me, like this, in the grass. I will watch you out of the corner of my eye, and you will say nothing. Words are the cause of misunderstandings. But each day, you may sit a little closer…”
The next day the prince returned. “It would have been better to come at the same hour,” said the fox. “If you come at four o’clock, I shall begin to be happy at three. The more time passes, the happier I’ll feel.”

What will life be like in 2046? It’s pretty likely that robots and AI technology will change a lot of industries (行业). Also, self-driving and flying cars will come into our daily life.
However, scientists have even bigger ideas. In a video series called Forward to the Future, three researchers predicted what they imagined would be reality in 2046.
Dr. Justin Sanchez believes we’ll be at a point where we can control things simply by using our mind. “Imagine a world where you could just use your thoughts to control your environment,” Dr. Justin said. According to him, we have made some progress already.
The future has more than just that. Many other exciting things could change the buildings and other things around us, says Stefanie Tompkins. “We’ll be able to build things that are very strong but also lightweight (轻量型的). We don’t even know the materials (材料),” she predicted.
“I believe we’re going to find that we have a very different relationship with the machines around us; we’ll be able to control a machine just by pressing a button (按钮) or only saying some simple words,” she said. For example, right now, to land a plane safely, a pilot has to go through many steps in the right order. But in 2046, in Pam’s words, a pilot may just need to say the words “prepare for landing”. Then the computer knows the steps it needs to take. Or perhaps, with AI, a pilot won’t even be necessary.
12. Where are these researchers’ predictions from?
A. From a picture book. B. From a video series.
C. From a radio report. D. From a science magazine.
13. Which of the following would be possible according to Justin?
A. Seeing robots in every industry. B. Letting computers control all machines.
C. Using thoughts to control the environment. D. Getting to work by self-driving or flying car.
14. In Stefanie’s imagination, future buildings will be ________.
A. safer B. larger C. reusable D. amazing
15. Why does the writer give an example in the last paragraph?
A. To explain Pam’s idea. B. To describe an achievement.
C. To show the importance of AI. D. To interest readers in future life.

Chinglish Takes Flight
“You swan (天鹅), he frog.” This sentence might sound funny in English. But it is lively! Both Chinese and foreigners can understand and enjoy it. It is an example of Chinglish.
Chinglish is a mix of Chinese and English. Now, it is quite popular outside China. It all started when a foreign girl put a sad photo online. It seemed that her boyfriend had made her cry. Some nice Chinese people created some funny Chinglish, such as “You swan, he frog” to cheer her up. The expression comes from a famous old Chinese story. It’s about a beautiful swan and an ugly toad (癞蛤蟆).
Many foreigners found it cool. They shared it online and made funny pictures with it. Some of them got interested in the Chinese stories behind Chinglish. It helps a lot to understand Chinese culture better. Sometimes, Chinglish works as a bridge connecting two cultures.
But for young English learners like us, it’s still important to use standard (标准) English, especially in tests and in formal situations. Standard English helps people understand each other more clearly.
We must know when to cross the bridge and when to stay in the “main road” of standard
English. After all, being able to use Chinglish properly and also communicate well in standard English makes you a true language user!

It’s common to meet difficulties in life. I once faced a big challenge: I had great trouble memorizing English words. I often forgot them soon after memorizing them, which made me upset. I even wanted to give up.
Later, I tried two useful ways to overcome the difficulty. First, I learned words by reading short passages instead of reciting word lists alone. Second, I reviewed the words regularly every day and marked difficult ones. Slowly, I made great progress in vocabulary.
