Be open to new ideas. Do you think people can live on the moon? Maybe you’ll find another earth someday. Don’t look down on new ideas. Everyone’s ideas are important. You should welcome them, because new ideas make life better for everyone.
Protect yourself. Has someone ever taken money from one of your classmates? Don’t let it happen to you. If you have to go home late, you should let your parents know.

How to stop bullying?
If you’re being bullied or you know someone who is, it’s important to tell someone else what’s happening. If you find it hard to 4 your feelings, try to say things out loud first or write a letter instead. Helping someone else who is being bullied by showing your care makes a big difference, too. Passage 5
On December 11, 2025, a court (法院) in Beijing made a historic decision. A 65-year-old man was put into prison for four years because of putting poison (毒) in a public area, which killed many pets.
The problem started in September 2022. The man, named Zhang, left poisoned food in a neighborhood park in Beijing. Sadly, 11 pet dogs and 2 cats ate the food and died. One of the dogs was a small white dog named Papi.
Papi’s owner, Ms. Li, was very sad. She decided to fight for justice (正义). For three years, she learned about laws and worked with lawyers. Finally, her case went to court and this was the first time such a case had happened in China.
Many people in China are talking about the case online. A website did a survey on people’s opinions about the case. Here are the survey results and people’s comments.
Survey Results
Ms. Xie, 34
Sure. It showed that hurting animals in public is also a danger to people, especially children. I hope the case helps people learn to respect life.
Mr. Liang, 41
I don’t think it’s worth it. It took much time, money and energy. Pets are just animals, and the law should focus more on human problems.
Mr. Mo, 26
I’m not sure. I understand Ms. Li’s feelings but I thought there might be easier ways to solve such problems.
Although Zhang will go to prison, the pet owners are still asking for money to help with their sadness and loss. It reminds us that everyone plays an important role in protecting public safety.
1.Was Zhang put into prison for four years because he put poison in a public area that killed many pets?
2.How long did it take Ms. Li to learn about laws and work with lawyers?
3.Please summarize (总结) people’s opinions of the case according to the survey.
4.If Ms. Li is your friend, what will you tell her? (About 30 words)
