主体2(改编弊端,完全取自Lesson1原文):电影时长仅两小时,编剧必须决定删减哪些情节、保留合适内容;部分人物改动会让原著读者失望;
film adaptation 影视改编 have high expectations 抱有很高期待 appropriate for the screen 适合荧幕呈现leave out plots 删减情节 competitor 影视行业竞争者 splendid film 精彩影片
①It’s normal to have high expectations when a film of a favourite book is made.(Lesson1 it形式主语)
②Since a typical film is only around two hours long, screenwriters have to decide what to leave out.(Lesson1)
③It is the book writer who is in the best position to do film adaptations.(Lesson1 强调句型)
④All things considered, it must be one of the most splendid films ever made.(《美女与野兽》影评结尾)
Books vs Their Film Adaptations
It’s normal to have high expectations once our favourite books get film adaptations, as many competitors compete to produce eye-catching movies for the media market.
Films visualize stories and spread classic works widely. Yet a typical two-hour film forces screenwriters to leave out plenty of plots and adjust characters to fit the screen. It is the original writer who knows best how to keep the book’s spirit, so most adaptations fail to satisfy loyal readers except Beauty and the Beast, a truly splendid work.
From my perspective, we should enjoy both media: read novels first to grasp full emotions, then appreciate their film versions.

Nowadays short videos are everywhere among teenagers. They bring us convenience and joy, but they also cause problems.
On one hand, we can learn useful knowledge and relax ourselves through creative short videos. Many programs with lots of audience participation bring us great fun. On the other hand, endless watching takes up our study time. Some videos carry false information and misleading ads, which is bad for our judgement. Besides, we ignore our family and lose face-to-face communication.
In my opinion, we must improve our media literacy and limit daily screen time. Only in this way can we make good use of short videos.
易错点(一) as well &as well as &might as well
Many media competitors as well as famous writers pay attention to film adaptations; I enjoy reading original novels as well. Since all online videos are full of false information, we might as well spend more time on printed books instead.
eg.I like creative advertising, and I love interactive TV shows as well.
②高频易错:不可混淆 as well与also,also放在句中实义动词前、be动词后,as well只能句尾;不能把as well当作连词连接并列事物。
错:I like reading as well watching films.
对:I like reading as well as watching films.
2.as well as 并列连词短语,含义 “除……
eg.The writer as well as many competitors competes for audience attention.
A as well as B重点突出 A,B只是顺带补充;可连接动词原形、动名词,前后形式保持一致。
eg.We should combine critical thinking with media judgement as well as enjoy interesting programs.
eg.He can analyse advertisements as well as professional planners.
①基础考法:might as well +动词原形,单独提建议。
eg.It’s a boring adaptation, so we might as well give it up.
②拓展对比句型:might as well do A as do B 与其做 B,不如做 A,前后都用动词原形,学生常误把后半句变为 doing/to do。
eg.You might as well read the original book as waste hours scrolling short videos.
③易错混淆:不能和 as well、as well as 混用,不存在 “might as well as” 结构;否定、疑问极少使用该搭配表习惯。
Many advertising competitors 1 creative designers devote themselves to creating eye-catching media works. I am fond of well-written novels and their wonderful screen versions 2 . Nowadays short videos are flooded with misleading content, so we 3 turn to traditional printed newspapers for reliable news.
Film critics appreciate original novels. They also admire well-made screen adaptations.
Film critics appreciate original novels and admire well-made screen adaptations __________.

02 adapt & adopt
The novel The Three-Body Problem was adapted for the screen, and the director adopted a new shooting style to win over the audience.
adapt vt.
常用搭配:adapt (oneself) to (doing) sth 适应(做)某事;
adapt sth. from 根据……改编;
be adapted from 由……改编;
adapt…for…
adopt vt.
常见搭配:adopt a method/plan/style 采用方法/方案/风格;
adopt a child 收养孩子
❌ The film is adopted from the original novel.
✅ The film is adapted from the original novel.
②区分语境:涉及 “调整、改编、适应” 用 adapt;
This story ________(adapt) from a famous book, and the producer ________(adopt) creative advertisements to promote the film.
Advertisers combine creative ideas with high-standard design; the combination of art and business creates successful advertisements.
核心固定搭配:combine A with B 把 A 与 B 结合起来;
be combined with 与……
①介词误用:学生经常写成 combine A and B,标准书面固定搭配为 combine A with B;
②词形转换错误:动词 combine →名词combination,易错误拼写成 combinition;
③主谓一致难点:A combined with B 作主语时,谓语动词与 A 保持一致(就前原则)。

Is there a link between social media and depression? Do social media have a negative impact on your mental health? It’s complicated.
In a recent study, the investigators compared social media use and depression between teens.
4 Specifically, for every hour per day that one teen spent on social media more than her peers, she likely had a 0.64 point higher depression score.
A different study identified five distinct types of social media users. The finding was that“problematic social media use” was one of the main themes for people whose mental health was affected by social media. You can have alcohol in your life without it being a problem, or your alcohol use may become problematic. 5
There’s one important thing to remember about survey research — just because two things happen together, it’s not necessarily true that one causes the other. 6 For all we know, it could be that people who are already more depressed choose to spend more time on the media.
7 If you think that we shouldn’t paint social media with one broad brush, you’re on the right track. On the one hand, participants often described social media as a valuable way to cope with stress. On the other hand, cyberbullying via social media was also a common experience for participants. Some also said that constantly checking their own social media profile was stressful.
It’s certainly possible that experiences like cyberbullying, comparing yourself to idealised images, and constantly monitoring your profile, are bad for your mood. It’s also true for many that social media offer community support and positive messages. Given the inconclusive research, it’s safe to say that at least we shouldn’t write off social media altogether. 8 Anyway, you cannot use them as a crutch (依靠) for coping with other stressors and mental health problems.
A. It’s the same with social media.
B. Social media can be a double-edged sword.
C. People get more opinionated about the potential problems of social media.
D. They found that those who used social media more had higher depression scores.
E. They reviewed all existing research and found that there were both benefits and drawbacks.
F. The key to benefiting from social media may lie in using them in moderation and staying socially connected.
G. For example, just because higher social media use co-occurs with higher levels of depression doesn’t mean social media use causes depression.

(二)used to和would用法体系归纳
1.used to的用法
eg.Media used to be a one-way process.(Lesson 2)
否定式:didn’t use to/usedn’t to
eg.They didn’t use to combine design with creative ideas in old advertisements.(Lesson3)
People didn’t use to pay much attention to public service ads decades ago.
疑问式:Did +主语+use to…?/Used +主语+ to…?
eg.Did people use to watch films adapted from books more often?
eg.You used to read printed magazines, didn’t you?
情况二:There used to be… 句型固定反问:wasn’t /weren’t there
eg.There used to be few online advertisements, wasn’t there?
2.would的用法
eg.Journalists said they would stick to reporting true news all the time.
eg.Would you like to share your favourite media with your partner?
Would you mind turning off pop-up advertisements?
eg.After dinner, families would gather around the television and watch the news from 7 pm to 7:30 pm.
In those days, everyone would watch the same evening news together.
eg.If we had learned media literacy earlier, we would have told false news apart easily.
3.used to 和 would 的用法比较
eg.When there was no Internet, families used to /would watch TV news together every evening.
I used to /would watch the TV series for 3 years.
语义差异:used to强调今昔对比(现在不再如此);
eg.He would watch TV news every night in his childhood.
He used to watch TV news every night.
使用范围:would只用于重复动态动作;
单次动作不能用would,只能用used to
I used to live without smartphones.(live居住是静态状态,禁用 would)
动词限制:used to可接be动词/所有状态动词;
would 绝对不能接状态动词(be/have/live/know 等)
She used to be interested in printed newspapers.
She would be interested in printed newspapers.
频率副词搭配:used to一般不与often/sometimes/frequently连用;
Sometimes he would listen to radio broadcasts in his spare time.

主体2(改编弊端,完全取自Lesson1原文):电影时长仅两小时,编剧必须决定删减哪些情节、保留合适内容;部分人物改动会让原著读者失望;
film adaptation 影视改编 have high expectations 抱有很高期待 appropriate for the screen 适合荧幕呈现leave out plots 删减情节 competitor 影视行业竞争者 splendid film 精彩影片
From my perspective, we should enjoy both media: read novels first to grasp full emotions, then appreciate their film versions.
media literacy 媒介素养;audience participation 观众互动;compete for attention 争夺受众注意力;
It is common that teenagers spend hours watching short videos every day.
It does not matter how attractive the videos are; we should control our time.
It’s a waste of time scrolling meaningless videos.
We should combine learning with proper relaxation.

02 adapt & adopt
The novel The Three-Body Problem was adapted for the screen, and the director adopted a new shooting style to win over the audience.
adapt vt.
常用搭配:adapt (oneself) to (doing) sth 适应(做)某事;
adapt sth. from 根据……改编;
be adapted from 由……改编;
adapt…for…
adopt vt.
常见搭配:adopt a method/plan/style 采用方法/方案/风格;
adopt a child 收养孩子
❌ The film is adopted from the original novel.
✅ The film is adapted from the original novel.
②区分语境:涉及 “调整、改编、适应” 用 adapt;
This story ________(adapt) from a famous book, and the producer ________(adopt) creative advertisements to promote the film.
【参考答案】was adapted;adopted
Advertisers combine creative ideas with high-standard design; the combination of art and business creates successful advertisements.
核心固定搭配:combine A with B 把 A 与 B 结合起来;
be combined with 与……
①介词误用:学生经常写成 combine A and B,标准书面固定搭配为 combine A with B;
②词形转换错误:动词 combine →名词combination,易错误拼写成 combinition;
③主谓一致难点:A combined with B 作主语时,谓语动词与 A 保持一致(就前原则)。
Creative ideas ________ (combine) with advanced technology make the advertisements more attractive to young audiences.
