Many large cities in the United States have an area called Chinatown. Each of them was set up by people who came from China. For example, Chinatown in San Francisco, California, began in the 1840s. The Chinese immigrants came to America to look for gold. Then the area they lived in later became known as Chinatown.
Chinatowns were also set up in cities in the western states of Oregon (俄勒冈州) and Washington during the middle of the 19th century. Many Chinese immigrants in these areas helped build the first railroad system across the United States. However, after the work, many Chinese moved to the eastern and middle parts of the United States.
Chinatowns can also be found in cities outside the United States. For example, the first Chinese immigrants to London arrived in the late 18th century. They were men who worked for the East India Company. Later, the Chinese immigrants opened small shops and restaurants there.

My name is Linda. Cathy is my best friend in my class. Here is a story about us.
One day, Mr Smith gave us the result of a maths exam. I did badly in it. I felt so puzzled that I didn’t know what to do next. At lunchtime, I still stayed in the classroom. Suddenly Cathy said to me, “Linda, you look unhappy. Could you tell me why?” I had a look at her but said nothing. I knew Cathy got a good grade in the exam. She kept on asking me more questions. “Is it because of the exam? Do you need my help?” I kept quiet all the time. Then Cathy went out. After a while, I looked for my maths paper here and there, but I couldn’t find it.
In the afternoon, Cathy came up to my desk and gave my maths paper back to me. I looked at it and got a big surprise. Cathy wrote down how to work out each problem on my paper. How kind she was! My face turned red. At that time, I held her hands and said, “Thank you, my friend!”

36.Eric擅长数学,而我擅长英语。
根据上文“Eric does well in maths”可知Eric数学好,下文“I’m … at English”形成对比,说明“我”擅长英语,应用be good at“擅长”。

76. My Best Friend and I
My best friend is Zhang Wei. We have known each other for three years since we entered middle school.
Although we are good friends, we are quite different in many ways. First, in personality, I am outgoing and like to talk, while Zhang Wei is quiet and a little shy. Second, in hobbies, I enjoy playing basketball, but he prefers reading novels. Third, in study habits, I usually study in the evening and work quickly, while he likes to study early in the morning and thinks carefully before writing.
Some may think friends should be similar, but I believe differences make our friendship stronger. In a word, real friendship does not require sameness.
