【原文】W: Hi, everyone. I know many of you feel anxious about making new friends when moving to a new city — It’s totally normal, but with a few simple steps, you can build meaningful connections easily. First, don’t stay cooped up at home; take the initiative to put yourself out there. Attend local community events, like lively street fairs, cozy book club meetings, environmental volunteer activities, or neighborhood sports games. These occasions gather people with shared interests, making it much easier to strike up a conversation. Second, be brave enough to start small talks — A genuine “hello”, a compliment on someone’s outfit, or a question about the event can go a long way. Third, after meeting someone you click with, don’t let the connection fade. Follow up promptly: send a short text saying you enjoyed chatting with them, share a relevant article, or suggest grabbing coffee together. Remember, making friends isn’t about being perfect; it’s about showing sincerity and putting in consistent effort. You need to show real interest in others’ lives and make time for regular interactions. The goal is to build deep, lasting friendships, not just accumulate a long list of contacts on your phone. I believe you’ll all find your tribe soon — good luck!

Theater is a big part of what makes New York shine. This city is full of talent that even the youngest can appreciate, and at the best Broadway shows, everyone in your crew will be interested.
The Lion King
There’s a reason why Simba’s story continues to draw in crowds year after year: It’s an amazing production with amazing sets and a moving score. Seeing The Lion King live is something like a ceremony for New York kids. Unconvinced? Ask the more than 100 million audience members worldwide who’ve seen the performance.
Ages 8 and up.
Six
On a concert stage, backed by an all-female band, the six wives of Tudor Dynasty Henry Ⅷ air their complaints in the form of modern pop. The queens sing their heads off, and the audience loses its mind. Some of the stories are pretty dark, but the girl-power dance moves will make older kids excited.
Ages 10 and up.
Wicked
Based on novelist Gregory Maguire’s 1995 adult variation on L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Wicked shows what happened before the events in the children’s book. The musical addresses complex themes, such as standards of beauty and morality. While children five and up are permitted in the theater, little ones might be afraid of the flying monkeys.
Ages 8 and up.
Come from Away
One of the more unlikely musicals on Broadway is an excellent choice for the family: Come from Away which is the tense but humane story of an airport in Gander, Newfoundland, where 38 planes and more than 6,000 passengers were forced to land on September 11,2001. It raises big topics, but in such a way that invites thoughtful discussion.

Friends do all they can to help friends. That’s why teacher Eli Fanus’ sixth grade group at Poland Community School joined Joseph “Joey” Banks in his fight against Type 1 diabetes.
Each year members of the group choose a cause they can get behind. Their pick for a cause to work on during their last year at the school was Joey Banks, one of their own, who had diabetes the year before.
Student Sydney Dick said three Poland Community School students have Type 1 diabetes, including her little sister. Dick said when a person has diabetes, their body produces little or no insulin (胰岛素) and they will depend on man-made insulin for their lifetime. She also noted that getting Type 1 diabetes has nothing to do with lifestyle, can happen at any age, and has no cure (特效药). “At least not yet,” she said.
This year the group’s plan is clear: raise money to help support the search for a cure.
“We put posters up all around the school,” Dick said, “telling people to come to the fair and support us.”
The fair was the Fall Harvest Fair on Nov. 14, a date that happened to be World Diabetes Day. The group put plenty of thought into how and what they might offer for donations (捐赠) to their cause.
“Anna was looking for crafts (手工) we might make and saw butterflies,” Lily Moreau said.
“My father even created a butterfly from wood!” Alan Tibbetts said.
Various crafts and some sweets were also for sale. With each sale of goods, fairgoers were given small paper butterflies made by all the members of the group, to thank them for their donations.
Banks’ friends had set what they thought might be an unachievable fundraising goal (筹款目标) of $500.
“With five minutes to go, we finally made it to $502,” David Tjalsma said.
The group presented a check on Monday to Christina Foster, development coordinator for the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation in Maine.
33.What did members of Fanus’ group decide to do during their last year at the school?
A.Raise money for diabetes research.
B.Carry out research on diabetes in their school.
C.Pay for their friend Joey Banks’ medical treatment.
D.Organize the Fall Harvest Fair for World Diabetes Day this year.
34.What can we say about Dick?
A.She wants to be a doctor in the future.
B.She knows a lot about Type 1 diabetes.
C.She has fought against diabetes for many years.
D.She has helped doctors find a cure for Type 1 diabetes.
35.How did Tibbetts’ father support the group’s activity?
A.By putting posters up all around the school.
B.By spreading the word in their community.
C.By making a wooden butterfly for them.
D.By inviting his friends into the fair.
36.How did the group’s fundraising activity turn out?
A.It got support from the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation.
B.It collected less money than expected.
C.It raised the doubts of other fairgoers.
D.It was a complete success.

C
Sometimes I began to imagine: what if I were neighbors with all of my friends? The more I’ve thought about it, the more I believe: we should all live close to our friends.
For the past century, the nuclear family, only including parents and children, has defined U.S. homes. But Americans lived with friends and extended family long before the nuclear family became common. Even now, this mode of living exists somewhere; think of college campuses, which tend to be the kind of walkable communities where you’re regularly running into pals on the street.
While moving closer to friends would likely require a lot of efforts, doing so could actually be really good for you. Having supportive friends is connected with greater day-to-day happiness. Researchers have found that happiness spreads easily, especially among those who live close together. Friends living within a mile of each other are 25 percent more likely to feel happy, and their friends have a 10 percent chance of feeling happier too. Live around people who make you happy, and you might create a happiness circle that cheers up everyone around you.
Having a pal around is also just practical. For people with kids, a friend in the neighborhood might be able to help with child care in times of need, saving you the cost of a last-minute babysitter. Those without children might welcome the chance to bond with friends’ kids. And for people who live alone, living closer to friends can make savings on some things easier. You might share household items you don’t need every day, for example. Whatever the reason, having more people you trust around will make it easier for you to get through difficult times.
Many people are prepared to move for a new job, to be with a romantic partner, or even just for an adventure. Moving to be closer to friends should be no different. Friends are important to a good life. So why not shorten the distance between you and them?
28.Which was popular in the US before the nuclear family became common?
A.The one-parent family.
B.The extended family only.
C.The college campus community.
D.The family group with relatives and friends.
29.What do the percentages in Para. 3 show about living closer to friends?
A.It spreads happiness among friends easily.
B.It benefits one’s physical and mental health.
C.It improves one’s awareness of family building.
D.It increases one’s chances of making more new friends.
30.What is the practical advantage of living near friends?
A.Greater personal growth. B.Lower living costs.
C.More health care services. D.Better leisure activities.
31.What is the author's purpose in writing the passage?
A.To advise living in nuclear families.
B.To call on maintaining good friendships.
C.To encourage people to live close to friends.
D.To tell people how to turn friends into neighbors.
【答案】28.D 29.A 30.B 31.C

【详解】28.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“But Americans lived with friends and extended family long before the nuclear family became common.(但在核心家庭普及之前,美国人是和朋友及大家庭一起生活的。)”可知,在核心家庭普及之前,美国流行的是与亲戚和朋友一起生活的家庭群体。故选D。
29.推理判断题。根据文章第三段“Researchers have found that happiness spreads easily, especially among those who live close together. Friends living within a mile of each other are 25 percent more likely to feel happy, and their friends have a 10 percent chance of feeling happier too.(研究人员发现,幸福感很容易传播,尤其是在那些住得很近的人之间。住在一英里以内的朋友感到幸福的可能性增加了25%,他们的朋友感到更幸福的可能性也增加了10%。)”可知,这些百分比数据表明,与朋友住得近会让幸福感在朋友之间更容易传播。故选A。
30.细节理解题。根据文章第四段“And for people who live alone, living closer to friends can make savings on some things easier. You might share household items you don’t need every day, for example.(对于独居的人来说,住得离朋友近一些可以更容易在一些事情上省钱。例如,你可以分享一些你不每天需要的家居用品。)”可知,与朋友住得近的实际好处是可以降低生活成本。故选B。
31.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“Many people are prepared to move for a new job, to be with a romantic partner, or even just for an adventure. Moving to be closer to friends should be no different. Why does social media trigger feelings of loneliness and inadequacy? Because instead of being real life, it is, for the most part, impression management, a way of marketing yourself, carefully choosing and filtering (过滤) the picture and words to put your best face forward.
Online “friends” made through social media do not follow the normal psychological progression of an interpersonal relationship. You share neither physical time nor emotional conversations over the Internet. You simply communicate photographs and catchy posts to a diverse group of people whom you have “friended” or “followed” based on an accidental interaction. This is not to say that your social media friends can’t be real friends. They absolutely can, but the two are not the same. Generally speaking, there are no unfiltered comments and casually taken photos on our social media pages. And, rightfully so, because it wouldn’t feel safe to be completely real and honest with some of our “friends” whom we don’t actually know or with whom trust has yet to be built.
Social media can certainly be an escape from the daily routines, but we must be cautioned against the negative effects, such as addiction, on a person’s overall psychological well-being.
As humans, we are eager for social connection. Scrolling (滚动) through pages of pictures and comments, however, does not provide the same degree of fulfillment as face to face interactions do. Also, we tend to idealize others’ lives and compare our downfalls to their greatest accomplishments, ending in feelings of loneliness and inadequacy.
Social media can lead people on the unhealthy pursuit of perfection. Some people begin to attend certain events or travel to different places so that they can capture that “perfect” photo. They begin to seek validation through the number of people who “like” their posts. In order for it to play a psychologically healthy role in your social life, social media should enhance an already healthy social network. Pictures and posts should be byproducts (副产品) of life’s treasured moments and fun times, not the planned and calculated image that one is putting out into cyberspace in an attempt to fill insecurities or unmet needs.
Ultimately, social media has increased our ability to connect with various types of people all over the globe. It has opened doors for business and allowed us to stay connected to people whom we may not otherwise get to follow. However, social media should feel like a fun experience, not one that contributes to negative thoughts and feelings. If the latter is the case, increasing face to face time with trusted friends, and minimizing time scrolling online, will prove to be a reminder that your social network is much more rewarding than any “like”, “follow” or “share” can be.
32.What does the author imply social media may do to our life?
A.It may facilitate our interpersonal relationships.
B.It may filter our negative impressions of others.
C.It may make us feel isolated and incompetent.
D.It may help us make as many friends as we can.”
33.Why do people post comments selectıvely on social media?
A.They do not find all their online friends trustworthy.
B.They do not want to lose their followers.
C.They want to avoid offending any of their audience.
D.They are eager to boost their popularity.
34.What are humans tend to do according to paragraph 4?
A.Learn Jessons from other people’s downfalls.
B.Strive for perfection whatever the cost.
C.Paint a rosy picture of other people’s lives.
D.Show their life’s accomplishments more impressive than reality.
35.What does the author advise people to do when they find their online experience negative?
A.Use social media to increase their ability to connect with various types of people.
B.Stay connected to those whom they may not otherwise get to know and befriend.
C.Try to prevent negative thoughts and feelings from getting into the online pages.
D.Strengthen ties with real-life friends instead of caring about their online image.
【答案】32.C 33.A 34.C 35.D
【导语】本文是一篇议论文。主要讲述了社交媒体扩大了我们的人际关系范围,但也会引发孤独感和不自信,我们应该加强与现实生活中朋友的联系。
【详解】32.推理判断题。根据第一段“Why does social media trigger feelings of loneliness and inadequacy? Because instead of being real life, it is, for the most part, impression management, a way of marketing yourself, carefully choosing and filtering (过滤) the picture and words to put your best face forward.(为什么社交媒体会引发孤独感和不足感?因为这不是真实的生活,在很大程度上,这是一种印象管理,一种推销自己的方式,仔细选择和过滤图片和文字,把你最好的一面展示出来。)”可知,该段首先使用提问的方式引出要论述的话题,结合下文介绍的社会媒体会引发孤独和不足感的原因可推知,作者暗示社交媒体让我们感到孤立和无能。故选C项。
33.推理判断题。根据第二段中的“Generally speaking, there are no unfiltered comments and casually taken photos on our social media pages. And, rightfully so, because it wouldn’t feel safe to be completely real and honest with some of our “friends” whom we don’t actually know or with whom trust has yet to be built.(一般来说,我们的社交媒体页面上没有未经过滤的评论和随意拍摄的照片。而且,这是理所当然的,因为对一些我们并不了解或尚未建立信任的“朋友”完全真实和诚实是不安全的。)”可知,社交媒体上发布的照片一般是经过处理过的,这是因为我们对网上不了解或者为建立信任的“朋友”真实和诚实是不安全的,由此可知,人们在社交媒体上有选择性地发表评论,原因是人们对不了解和不信任的网友设防。故选A项。
34.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Also, we tend to idealise others' lives and compare our downfalls to their greatest accomplishments, ending in feelings of loneliness and inadequacy.(此外,我们倾向于把别人的生活理想化,把自己的失败和他们最伟大的成就作比较,最终感到孤独和不足。)”可知,我们倾向于把别人的生活理想化,由此可知,人们往往认为他人的生活很美好。故选C项。
35.细节理解题。根据尾段中的“However, social media should feel like a fun experience, not one that contributes to negative thoughts and feelings. If the latter is the case, increasing face to face time with trusted friends, and minimizing time scrolling online, will prove to be a reminder that your social network is much more rewarding than any “like”, “follow” or “share” can be.(然而,社交媒体应该是一种有趣的体验,而不是一种导致消极思想和情绪的体验。如果是后者,增加与值得信赖的朋友面对面的时间,尽量减少上网的时间,这将会提醒你,你的社交网络比任何“喜欢”、“关注”或“分享”都有价值得多。)”可知,当社交媒体让人产生了消极的感受时,应该增加与值得信赖的朋友面对面的时间,由此可知,作者建议人们增加与朋友面对面交流的时间。故选D项。

Friendship

【答案】
Friendship
Friendship is a kind of human relations. When in trouble, we need friends to offer us help, support and encouragement. Friendship is one of the greatest pleasures that we can enjoy.
When we get on with our friends, it’s natural that we have different opinions. If so, what should we do? Quarrels can’t solve the problem and tolerance is not a good way. Only by reasoning can we convince our friends completely.
In my opinion, we have to stick to the principle of making friends who are honest and reliable. That is to say, a friend should be trusted.

67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Bill was a new student in Lakeside School. He had curly brown hair and always kept his head down when walking in the hallway. Unlike other lively classmates, Bill was very shy. He was afraid of talking to strangers and could barely speak up even when the teacher asked him a question. Every break time, he would sit alone by the window, watching others play basketball or laugh loudly together, feeling like an outsider in the new school.
One Monday morning, Bill noticed some bright blue benches installed on the playground. There was a heart-warming sign on them: “Friendship Bench - Sit here if you want a friend.” Curious, he visited the school website and learnt that the school put the bench to help lonely students make friends. He also found out how the bench worked: “When you sit on the bench, say yes to the first one who invites you to play and talk. If you see someone sitting on the bench, invite them to play and talk.”
Bill nodded silently, but he didn’t dare to try it. The thought of sitting there and waiting for others to notice him made his heart race. Days passed, and Bill still stayed alone.
One Friday afternoon, during the last break before school ended, he was hanging round on the playground, his eyes falling on the Friendship Bench. He noticed a girl who seldom talked in class sit on the bench. Almost immediately another girl went to say hi. They seemed to have a good time talking with each other. Longing for a friendship of his own, Bill finally found the courage to sit on a bench. Having butterflies in his stomach, he kept his head down and waited.

【答案】
Just then, a boy showed up and said hi. Bill was so nervous that his hands started to tremble. He lifted his head slightly and saw a friendly-looking boy standing in front of him. The boy said, “Hi, I’m Tom. I saw you sitting here. Do you want to play basketball with me and my friends?” Bill was surprised and delighted. He thought for a moment and then nodded, saying, “Yes, I’d love to.” As they walked to the basketball court, Bill realized that this was the first time he had agreed to play with others in this new school. He felt a warmth spreading in his heart, which he had never experienced before.
From that day on, changes silently took place within Bill. He no longer kept his head down all the time when walking in the hallway. Instead, he would smile at his classmates. He also became more active in class. When the teacher asked questions, he would raise his hand bravely, which was something he had never done before. What’s more, he made more friends. They would often play together during break time and study together after school. Bill knew that it was the Friendship Bench that had given him the courage to step out of his shell. He was grateful for that special bench and the new friends he had made, who made his school life full of joy and laughter.

Take the initiative to put yourself out there, attend local community events like lively street fares, cozy books, club meetings, environmental volunteer activities or neighborhood sports games. These occasions gathered people with shared interests, making IT much easier to strike up a conversation. Second, be brave enough to start small talks, a genuine hello, a compliment on someone's outfit or a question about the event can go a long way. Third, after meeting someone you click with, don't let the connection fade, follow up promptly, send in the short text saying you enjoyed chatting with them, share a relevant article, or suggest grabbing coffee together. Remember, making friends isn't about being perfect. It's about showing sincerity and putting in consistent effort. You need to show real interest in others lives and make time for regular interactions. The goal is to build deep, lasting friendships, not just to kill me late, a long list of context on your phone. I believe you'll all find your tribe soon. Good luck. Hi everyone, I know many of you feel anxious about making new friends when moving to a new city.
Ages 10 and up.

A.The Lion King. B.Wicked.
C.Six. D.Come from Away.
22.What can you learn about Come from Away?

D
