When I was a young boy, every summer, Mom, Dad, my brothers and I would climb into our old car and drive for 7 hours over long mountain roads to visit Mom’s relatives in Tennessee. We always stayed in Grandma’s house there with her, Uncle Rich and Aunt Charlotte. It was a fun time with days full of excitement and joy. Often Aunt Charlotte would even make us a Thanksgiving dinner in the summertime. Some of my happiest childhood memories came from those visits.
One especially holds a special place in my heart. During that visit, I had great fun every day. One evening, I climbed into bed in the guest bedroom on the second floor of the house. Although I had played and explored the whole day and was really tired, I was still wide awake, my mind racing with the day’s sweet events. As I lay there, I heard the most pleasant sound coming from the front window below me. It was laughter. Mom, Dad, Uncle Rich, and Aunt Charlotte were down there sharing stories and telling jokes. The laughter was so happy, so joyous, that I found myself smiling. And even then in my young mind and childish heart, I realized that this is how life should be. The laughter became a sweet song to me and I fell asleep feeling all was right with the world.
Whenever my life seems too hard or crazy, I look back on that memory. And I took the lessons that Uncle Rich and Aunt Charlotte taught me. They always lived their lives with love and joy and laughter and smiles. Uncle Rich passed away many years ago but Aunt Charlotte is still alive. I write to her each week and I am so thankful to still have her in my life.
We fill lives with laughter, smiles, love and joy. We not only give ourselves happiness but also make this world a better and more beautiful place.

A new survey conducted by the national Center for Health Statistics has discovered a significant gap between American teens’ perceptions (感知) of the support they receive and what their parents believe they provide. The study showed that only 26% of teens feel they get the social and emotional support they need all the time, while parents are almost three times as likely to think they do. A concerning 20% of teens said they rarely or never received the support they needed, and 3% of parents perceived the same issue. This difference tells that parents may be underestimating their children’s need for support.
Dr. Jeffrey Arnett, a developmental psychologist, stressed the importance of the parent-adolescent relationship, stating that parents play a central role in their children’s lives. Lisa Damour, a psychologist, pointed out a possible disconnect between the type of support parents think they offer and what teens actually need. She noted that while parents often provide advice or guidance, teens are more likely to seek empathy (共情) and reassurance.
The lack of perceived support was linked to poorer health outcomes. Teens who felt supported reported higher rates of depression and anxiety. They also struggled with poor sleep and expressed lower satisfaction with life. The study further revealed that this issue affected specific groups more seriously: Black teens reported feeling less supported than their parents believed, and girls generally felt less supported than boys did.
The US surgeon general has called attention to the importance of youth mental health. Help them feel connected and step out of their comfort zones — through sports, education, arts, civic engagement, interactive dialogue and more to build broader social connections. Create a safe space at home where teens feel"seen, heard and valued". Supporting teenagers also involves simply being curious about their experiences and offering empathy, which can be therapeutic (有疗效的) and beneficial for their mental health.
28.What is the main finding of the survey?
A.Parents and teens share similar views on family support.
B.Most teenagers refuse to discuss their feelings with adults.
C.Parental problems are the main cause of family arguments.
D.Parents believe they offer more support than teens actually feel.
29.What does Lisa Damour advise parents to do?
A.Turn to professional therapists.
B.Stop making choices for their kids.
C.Put themselves in their kids’ shoes.
D.Give more practical tips and guidance.
30.What can we infer from paragraph 3?
A.Boys are unlikely to suffer from low spirits.
B.Perceived support must result in life satisfaction.
C.Children from wealthy families feel more supported.
D.Black teenage girls need their parents’ support the most.
31.What does paragraph 4 mainly focus on?
A.The obvious importance of enough support.
B.The specific measures to give teens support.
C.The hidden reasons for parents’ low support.
D.The urgent need for caring about mental health.
D
A child’s healthy growth depends on warmth, acceptance, physical touch, love with boundaries, understanding, play, and comfort in difficulty. So why can it be difficult to do this?
We promise our unborn child that this is how we will behave towards them but then, just a couple of years later, we’re feeling particularly annoyed and we hear our own parents’ words coming out of our mouths. “Because I say so!” or whatever they said, Beyond repeating their words, we tend to repeat behaviours shown to us by our parents, and then repeat them with our own child. Of course, if these actions made us feel wanted, loved and safe as a child, that is fine. But so often they did the opposite.
The gap between ideal parenting and real-life practice comes from hidden cycles and a lack of empathy (共情能力). Parenting is tough; a child becomes your 24/7 focus overnight. This may make you appreciate your own parents more, but it’s important to understand your child too. To develop this empathy, thinking back to how you felt at their age builds the connection needed to respond with patience when they push your buttons.
Take my neighbor: he adopted an 18-month-old boy and got really mad when the child dropped food — until he remembered his grandfather shouting at him with a knife handle for the same mistake. Reconnecting with his own childhood pain let him replace anger with empathy, teaching table manners through fun instead of fear. This story proves that understanding your own past is key to breaking harmful cycles.
Moreover, guidance given in anger is useless for children — they only take in your negative emotion, not the lesson you want to teach. Anger clouds their ability to learn, turning a teaching moment into a moment of fear. To help your child grow, you must first calm yourself; only then can your words and actions truly guide them.
32.What is the function of the first paragraph?
A.Listing healthy growth factors. B.Stressing empathy in parenting.
C.Comparing ideal-real parenting. D.Introducing parenting challenges.
33.What causes the difference between ideal and real parenting?
A.Society’s parental pressure. B.Little parent-child interaction.
C.Kids’ misunderstanding parents. D.Unseen intergenerational patterns.
34.Why does the author mention his neighbor’s story?
A.To value empathy in teaching. B.To promote fun manners teaching.
C.To stress breaking bad parenting cycles. D.To fight against strict parenting patterns.
35.What does the author imply in the last paragraph?
A.Calm words get across children. B.Fear is beneficial to mental growth.
C.Anger helps children remember well. D.Both the lesson and negativity are helpful.

As a teacher, I often find that my spring parent-teacher conferences begin with the same answer 56 my first question: “So, how does Kevin think things are going this term?” I will ask. “We don’t know,” Kevin’s parents will say. “He never talks to us anymore.”
As middle school students experiment with their desire for 57 (independent), they often create distance between themselves and their families. To solve the problem, I introduced 58 new poetry task after our last conferences: the “family history” poem.
The following week, poems began to roll in. I had no idea what 59 (expect) although I had heard from several parents that the task had led to lively discussions. It turned out that all the family history poems were 60 (astonish). Not only were the young poets able to explore a meaningful part of his or her family’s past, 61 each of their poems 62 (carry) a deep level of meaning and understanding beyond the story itself.
I plan to make a few adjustments this spring. This time I am going to allow students 63 (much) time to listen to and digest (理解) their family stories before sitting down to write. 64 is my hope that this task gives my students a deeper, more meaningful appreciation of the art of poetry while it illuminates (照亮) the ways in 65 their families can help them become confident, capable, and connected young men and women.

Since childhood, my grandfather has been the person who cared about me most. He used to take me to climb mountains, fly kites and tell me interesting old stories in his spare time. He once made a serious promise with me that he would take me to visit the famous ancient town located in the remote mountain area when I entered senior high school.
I had been looking forward to this trip all the time and kept this promise firmly in my heart. However, after stepping into high school, endless homework and various training courses occupied almost all my daily time. I became busier and busier, and gradually put the original agreement behind unconsciously. I even had fewer chances to sit down and chat with my grandfather patiently.
Every time he mentioned the trip gently, I always found various excuses to put it off again and again. I thought there would be plenty of time in the future, so I did not cherish the precious time staying with him. As my academic pressure became heavier, I paid less and less attention to his physical condition and inner feelings.
Until one cold evening, I received a phone call from my mother, telling me that my grandfather fell ill suddenly and had to stay in hospital for treatment. Hearing the bad news, my heart sank instantly, and endless regret began to sweep over my whole mind. I realized that I had broken the most precious promise I had ever made.
I rushed to the hospital as fast as I could, not knowing how to face the weak old man lying on the bed.

第二节(共10小题;每小题1. 5分, 满分15分)
阅读下面材料,在空白处填入适当的内容(1个单词)或所给单词的正确形式。

根据文章第二段“Lisa Damour, a psychologist, pointed out a possible disconnect between the type of support parents think they offer and what teens actually need.

空处修饰名词time,根据前一句“I plan to make a few adjustments this spring.”可知,此处暗含比较意味,指“给学生们更多时间”,应用much的比较级形式。故填more。
64.考查固定句型。句意:我希望这项任务能让学生们更深入、更有意义地欣赏诗歌艺术,同时揭示他们的家人如何帮助他们成长为自信、能干且与家庭紧密联系的年轻男性和女性。根据空后的“is my hope that”可知,此处用固定句型“it is+名词+that…”表示“……是某物”,其中it作形式主语,真正的主语是后面的that引导的名词性从句,句首单词的首字母需大写。故填It。
故填which。

【答案】
Parent-child tensions
During adolescence, it’s quite common for tensions to arise between parents and children. This period is marked by significant physical changes, which can lead to mood swings in teenagers. Besides, adolescents are also experiencing complex psychological needs, striving for independence, identity formation, and acceptance among peers.
To relieve these tensions, both sides should practice empathy. Parents can try to understand their child’s perspective, acknowledging their struggles and desires. Accordingly, teenagers should consider the concerns and expectations of their parents, recognizing that these stem from love and a desire for their well-being.
Open, honest communication and mutual respect are key to resolving conflicts and develop a harmonious parent-child relationship during this transformative phase of life.

Standing beside the hospital bed, I held his old rough hands tightly with eyes full of tears. He looked much weaker than before, yet a gentle smile still appeared on his face when he saw me. “Don’t worry,” he said softly, “we still have time.” His words struck my heart deeply. I could not help apologizing again and again for breaking my promise. He shook his head slowly, telling me that what mattered was not the trip itself but my growth and happiness. At that moment, I realized how much love and patience he had given me all these years.
After calming down, I packed my bag quietly and decided to head for the ancient town alone to keep our long-awaited promise. Walking along the narrow streets, I imagined him walking beside me, telling old stories as he used to. I took photos of the mountains, the river and the old houses, hoping to share everything with him. When I returned to the hospital, I showed him the pictures and described the journey in detail. Tears filled his eyes, but this time, they were mixed with joy. I finally understood that keeping a promise is not only about action, but also about love and responsibility.
