The traditional Chinese Longtaitou Festival, or Dragon Head-Raising Festival, falls on the second day of the second lunar month every year, and recognizes the start of spring and farming.
Ancient people believed that after this day, rainfall increases because the rain-bringing Dragon King has awoken from his winter sleep. A well-known phrase goes, “Er yue er, long tai tou”, meaning “on the second day of the second lunar month, the dragon lifts his head”.
The festival celebrates ancient Chinese agrarian culture, and while some of the traditional ways to celebrate it are no longer practised, others continue to exist.
The most famous tradition is getting a haircut. Some believe that going to the barber on this day gets rid of bad luck, while others believe getting a haircut during the first month of the lunar calendar brings bad luck. Another saying warns that cutting your hair in the first lunar month will cause your uncle to die. Although today few pay attention to it, it was once a tradition to line up outside barbershops on the day of Longtaitou.
People eat tofu balls in East China’s Fujian Province during the festival, and often make tofu and vegetable balls to pray for family and business. Fried beans are the traditional festival food for people in parts of Shandong Province. Eating cheng yao cakes, which are made with sticky rice, during the festival is a tradition in Suzhou, East China’s Jiangsu Province, owing to the saying, “If you eat cheng yao cakes on Long taitou, your waist won’t hurt all year.” Meanwhile other foods, like noodles, dumplings, and spring rolls, are named after dragon body parts to mark the day. Noodles are dragon’s beard (long xu), dumplings are dragon’s ears (long er), and spring rolls are dragon’s scales (long lin).
24.What does the underlined word “agrarian” mean in Paragraph 3?
A.Agricultural. B.Industrial. C.Travelling. D.Manufacturing.
25.What did ancient people believe after Dragon Head-Raising Festival?
A.The dragon lifts his head. B.There’s more rainfall.
C.The dragon is still sleeping. D.There’s less rainfall.
26.What do people eat in Suzhou during the festival?
A.Tofu balls. B.Fried beans. C.Cheng yao cakes. D.Dumplings.
27.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?
A.The history and development of China’s Long taitou Festival
B.Cut your hair on China’s Long taitou Festival
C.The culture and traditions of China’s Long taitou Festival
D.Food about China’s Long taitou Festival

Jessica Watkins is the first Black woman to live and work on the International Space Station (ISS). After a program at Sally Ride elementary School, young Jessica Watkins realized what she wanted to do when she grew up: study the geology (地质学) of other planets. Then, at 33 years old, Watkins trained for a mission to do just that.
This April, Watkins became the first Black woman to live and work on the ISS for an extended task. She arrived there onboard a SpaceX capsule (太空舱) and then would spend six months on the ISS as part of a program called Artemis, a multi-billion-dollar effort designed to return humans to the surface of the moon in 2025.
Watkins would cover a lot of ground on her mission: earth and space science, biological science and human research into things like the effects of long spaceflight for humans. Over the course of her six-month mission, Watkins would also observe and photograph geological changes on Earth. Before her journey, Watkins said she had done training on the systems of the International Space Station and how to fix anything if it isn’t working properly. She had also practiced walking in space by wearing a large white suit in an underwater ISS model that’s housed in a giant pool.
Watkins said the journey to space has wide-ranging significance on everything from medical research “with direct impacts (影响) into our daily lives,” to international cooperation. “We are all coming together to accomplish this really hard thing that none of us would be able to do on our own,” Watkins said, “I think that is just such a beautiful picture of what we can all do if we come together and put all of our resources and skill sets together.”
28.What was Jessica Watkins’ dream at school?
A.Researching the space. B.Starting a program about space.
C.Studying the geology of the earth. D.Living and working on the ISS.
29.What’s the purpose of Artemis?
A.To help Watkins realize her dream. B.To bring humans back to the moon.
C.To train Watkins to work on the ISS. D.To spend the multi-billion dollars properly.
30.How did Watkins prepare for her task?
A.She covered a lot of ground like space science.
B.She observed and photographed changes on Earth.
C.She learned how to fix anything that might go wrong.
D.She practiced walking in space by walking in a giant pool.
31.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Watkins will finish her task on her own.
B.The journey to space is too hard to achieve.
C.Watkins thinks highly of the journey to space.
D.The cooperation of countries means little to the task.

Hybrid vehicles, also known as hybrid electric cars (HECs), are automobiles powered by two or more energy sources. Compared with most ordinary cars on the present-day roads, they have several unique features. The biggest distinction is that HECs rely on both petrol and electricity for operation. A hybrid car is fitted with both a battery-driven motor and a petrol-fueled engine.
Manufacturing a hybrid vehicle costs slightly more than a standard car, even with a smaller engine. The higher price results from the more complex engine structure. It has special mechanical parts that support its dual-power operation mode of petrol and electricity. Besides, it is equipped with a computer system different from that of traditional cars. Although it costs more to buy, it runs more cheaply than petrol-only vehicles. When a hybrid car stops at traffic lights or travels at a speed under 15 miles per hour, its special computer makes it run only on electric power. Once the computer detects the car needs extra power, it will restart the petrol engine. The computer keeps judging in real time whether the car should use electricity, petrol, or a mix of both.
Since electric power assists its operation, a hybrid car consumes far less fuel than most vehicles. In fact, it is among the most fuel-efficient cars available now. On average, it can travel 50 to 60 miles per gallon of petrol. Such high fuel efficiency cuts drivers’ costs and helps save limited oil resources. Hybrid cars are also environmentally friendly in other ways. For instance, they produce no harmful polluting gases when running on electricity.
Despite these differences from regular cars, hybrid vehicles deliver the same driving experience. They share the same control methods for acceleration and braking. However, HECs are generally smaller in size than petrol cars. Their streamlined, aerodynamic (空气动力学的) body improves fuel efficiency, yet it fails to increase the inner space of the car.
32.Which of the following best describes the features of a hybrid car?
A.Safe and reliable. B.Costly but long-lasting.
C.High purchase price, low pollution. D.Small engine with stronger power.
33.What controls the switch between petrol and electric power in a hybrid car?
A.The engine. B.The battery. C.The driver. D.The computer.
34.What is the main purpose of inventing hybrid cars?
A.To save energy resources. B.To upgrade driving services.
C.To cut down purchase costs. D.To create a new driving experience.
35.What is the most likely source of this passage?
A.A travel diary. B.A science magazine.
C.health report. D.A car sales poster.

Cities need nature to stay healthy. 36 Known as the “lungs of a city”, they not only beautify urban areas but also provide environment health, social, and economic benefits. These spaces play a key role in improving the quality of life for city residents.
Urban parks protect the environment.
Trees absorb harmful gases like carbon dioxide and produce oxygen, reducing air pollution. They also provide shade, which lowers temperatures during hot summers. For example, studies show parks can reduce the “heat island” effect caused by roads and buildings, cooling nearby areas by up to 7℃. 37
Parks improve public health.
They offer spaces for jogging, cycling, and other exercises, encouraging physical activity. Spending time in nature also reduces stress and improves mental health. Research shows people who visit parks regularly have lower risks of being overweight and heart disease. 38 They are vital for healthy living.
39
People from different backgrounds gather here to relax and connect. Children make friends on playgrounds, while cultural festivals in picnic areas unite neighbors. As experts say, “Parks break down social barriers and create shared joy.” These interactions build a sense of belonging in crowded cities.
Parks greatly benefit local economies.
Homes near parks often have higher values, attracting families and investors. 40 Parks also draw tourists, boosting income for hotels, and restaurants.
A.Clearly, parks are not just for fun.
B.Parks strengthen community connections.
C.Investing in parks creates jobs and supports businesses.
D.Urban parks are essential green spaces in modern cities.
E.This makes parks critical for cities facing climate challenges.
F.Maintaining green spaces is wise for cities aiming for growth.
G.Nearby shops and cafes see more customers, especially on weekends.

Gabriel had always been fascinated by robots. His mother, however, did not think much of it. She often criticized him, urging him to focus on his schoolwork instead of those“ useless machines”, as she called them. She wanted him to spend more time on his books, and less time lost in the world of robotics. He, however, always worked quietly on parts, trying to create inventions that could solve everyday problems.
One day, Gabriel came back from school, bursting through the front door, holding a shining award in his hand. The gas detection robot he had built for months had just won first place in the regional competition. His heart raced as he imagined his mother would be proud this time.
“Mom! Look! I won!” he cried. His mother, standing at the kitchen counter, looked briefly. She sighed, “That’s nice, Gabriel, but I still don’t see what good it will do you. It’s not going to help you with your grades or get you into college. You need to focus on something more practical.” Her voice showed no interest. Gabriel remained quiet, determined to prove that what he was doing had value.
One evening, as the delicious smell of dinner floated through the house, an unexpected danger was quietly closing. Gabriel’s mother had been busy in the kitchen but had forgotten to turn off the gas. Unaware of the coming threat, she had wandered into the living room, settling down comfortably in front of the TV. The gas continued to escape, silently filling the air. The house was on the edge of a disaster.

Dear Peter,
I’m delighted to hear that you are planning to visit China this summer, and I’d like to recommend the Forbidden City, which is a world-famous cultural symbol.
As the royal palace of ancient Chinese emperors, it has a history of more than 600 years and is famous for its splendid buildings and precious cultural relics.
My advice is that you should go early in the morning to avoid heavy crowds, and you’d better take a map so that you can visit more smoothly.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 (满分25分)
Suddenly, a loud alarm rang through the house. Gabriel’s gas detection robot had sensed the leak and sprung into action. The shrill sound jolted his mother from her TV reverie, her heart pounding as she realized the danger they were in. Quickly, she rushed to the kitchen, turned off the gas, and opened all the windows to let the fresh air disperse the dangerous fumes. As the alarm ceased, she stood there, breathing a sigh of relief, suddenly understanding the significance of Gabriel’s invention. It wasn’t just a toy or a useless machine; it was a lifesaver.
Gabriel’s mother held the robot gently in her arms, waiting for Gabriel to get back from school. She couldn’t wait to tell him how his creation had prevented a potential tragedy. When Gabriel finally walked through the door, his mother greeted him with tears in her eyes and a smile on her face. “Gabriel, you were right,” she said, hugging him tightly. “This robot isn’t just a hobby; it’s something that can protect us, make our lives safer. I’m sorry I didn’t see it before.” Gabriel’s heart swelled with pride and joy. From that day on, his mother became his biggest supporter, encouraging him to pursue his passion for robotics and recognizing the value of his inventions in making the world a better, safer place.

D

【答案】24.A 25.B 26.C 27.C
【导语】文章主要介绍了中国传统节日“龙抬头”的文化内涵和传统习俗,包括其由来、寓意以及相关饮食文化。
【详解】24.词句猜测题。根据第一段中“The traditional Chinese Longtaitou Festival, or Dragon Head-Raising Festival, falls on the second day of the second lunar month every year, and recognizes the start of spring and farming.(中国传统节日“龙抬头”于每年农历二月初二到来,标志着春季和农耕的开始)”和划线词所在句“The festival celebrates ancient Chinese agrarian culture (这个节日庆祝中国古代的agrarian文化)”可知,龙抬头与春季农耕相关,因此agrarian意为“农业的”,与“Agricultural”同义。
25.细节理解题。根据第二段“Ancient people believed that after this day, rainfall increases because the rain-bringing Dragon King has awoken from his winter sleep. (古人认为,这一天之后,降雨会增多,因为带来雨水的龙王已经从冬眠中醒来)”可知,古人认为龙抬头后雨水会增多。
26.细节理解题。根据最后一段“Eating cheng yao cakes, which are made with sticky rice, during the festival is a tradition in Suzhou (节日期间吃用糯米制成的撑腰糕是苏州的传统)”可知,苏州人在龙抬头期间吃撑腰糕。
27.主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第二段“A well-known phrase goes, “Er yue er, long tai tou”, meaning “on the second day of the second lunar month, the dragon lifts his head”. (有一句著名的谚语:“二月二,龙抬头”,意思是“在农历二月初二,龙抬起头来”)”以及第四段“The most famous tradition is getting a haircut. (最著名的传统是理发)”和第五段“People eat tofu balls in East China’s Fujian Province during the festival... (节日期间,中国东部福建省的人们吃豆腐丸子……)”可知,文章介绍了龙抬头的由来、传统习俗(如理发)以及各地饮食文化,因此“The culture and traditions of China’s Long taitou Festival(中国龙抬头节的文化与传统)”能概括文章内容,是最佳标题。

33.细节理解题。根据第二段“The computer keeps judging in real time whether the car should use electricity, petrol, or a mix of both.(电脑会实时判断车辆应当使用电力、汽油,还是两者混用。)”
通读全文,尤其根据第二段“The higher price results from the more complex engine structure. It has special mechanical parts that support its dual-power operation mode of petrol and electricity. Besides, it is equipped with a computer system different from that of traditional cars.(更高的售价源于更为复杂的发动机结构。该车配备特殊机械部件,用以支撑汽油与电力双动力运行模式。此外,它搭载了一套与传统汽车截然不同的计算机控制系统。)”等内容可知,全文客观科普混合动力汽车的构造、工作原理、优缺点等专业知识,结合文章科普客观的行文风格,可知本文最有可能出自一本科普杂志。

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Suddenly, a loud alarm rang through the house.
