M: Good afternoon, I want to thank Professor Johnson for giving me the chance to talk to you today about Alaska. One of the things that concern me most is the future of the Alaska environment. About twenty years ago, before going on some wilderness research, I visited Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska. It was a small city of 40,000 people surrounded by a quiet wilderness. When I made a recent trip there, I found amazing changes. Anchorage now has a hundred and eight thousand people. There’re tall buildings, shopping centers and all the crowds and traffic jams. The forests and mountains are still nearby, but they seem so small compared to the city’s great size. The discovery of oil in Alaska brought increased wealth to the state. However, there have been too many people moving to Alaska in a very short period to work on the pipeline. There is not enough housing or transportation. I think Alaska must make important decisions soon. Alaskans need to decide how to develop their natural resources and mineral wealth without destroying the wilderness and harming the wildlife. What is decided on now will affect the generations to come. For today’s lecture, I’ve brought along many of the pictures I usually show in my environmental science classes in my own university. First, I’ll show you some pictures of Alaska’s wilderness as it is today. Then I’d like to outline my specific suggestions.

Over the years, George Frost, who is originally from London, has taught art in the Vocational Education Committee (VEC) and has had a number of exhibitions, including one at Cork Airport, which was a great success. He has also exhibited at Bishopstown Library, where he sold most of the paintings on show. George presented a painting of his to a politician and also a university.
For the elderly George, art is something he is crazy about. Art gets him up in the morning, and he often works a full day, painting in the studio in his home. His home in Cork City is full of paintings of landscapes, portraits and scenic spots, including an attractive description of Ross Castle in Killarney. His desire is to give lessons in it to senior citizens, preferably through the medium of television. His thinking is that TV art will attract a relatively big audience. And there are practical considerations. George is in good condition apart from suffering from a bad back, which makes it difficult for him to teach a class as he will have to bend down to see the artworks and give advice to students.
George is now eager to appeal (呼吁) to television producers to broadcast his art classes on TV. He suggests that the filming can take place outdoors in Crosshaven during the summer months, as he frequently paints in the sailing village, attracting the attention of passers-by to his artistic skills.
George believes he has much to offer older individuals who may feel alone and lack a sense of purpose in life. Therefore, he is enthusiastic about sharing his expertise with senior citizens, some of whom may discover a talent for painting. The focus is on developing inclusiveness among the elderly. George even does not seek financial support for his services, and he thinks that his effort will likely assist in reducing government health expenses, as it can serve as an outlet for senior citizens.
24.What does George work as?
A.An educator and a painter. B.A member of VEC.
C.A librarian in Bishopstown. D.An artist and a politician.
25.Why does George prefer to teach art through television?
A.He is too old to travel outside.
B.He wants to advertise his paintings.
C.He expects it will draw more viewers.
D.He has difficulty moving due to a bad back.
26.What is George like?
A.Honest and modest. B.Considerate and helpful.
C.Humorous and generous. D.Competitive and daring.
27.What does the author mainly express?
A.Sharing is caring. B.Art heals the soul.
C.All roads lead to Rome. D.It is never too old to learn.

In the fight to control climate change, there are few solutions more discussed than planting lots of trees. It sounds simple enough — trees take in CO2 from the atmosphere to grow, so planting more of them should help remove greenhouse gases. The trouble is that tree planting efforts don’t always work as planned. For example, between 1974 and 2012, the Chilean government helped fund the planting of over a million hectares of new trees. Yet a recent study suggests this multi-million-dollar effort resulted in no major carbon storage gains. What went wrong?
Chile focused on afforestation (植树造林), the planting of trees in places never home to any forest. It is different from reforestation, the practice of bringing back recently damaged forests. Many governments and international organizations support afforestation in their efforts to meet tree planting goals that require massive amounts of land.
In order to keep taking in CO, trees need to grow tall and stay put. Most of Chile’s afforestation funding went to the commercial forestry industry, which greatly enlarged plantations of mostly non-native trees. According to one study, on average, natural forests are 40 times better at carbon storage than plantations. A tall tree can take in up to 22 kilograms of carbon dioxide each year. But plantation trees are harvested. Further, pine and eucalyptus (桉树) — two commonly grown plantation trees — are highly flammable, so gains in carbon storage can quickly go up in smoke.
And not all land should be forested. It’s not that we shouldn’t plant more trees. But for the best chance of success, programs should consider which species to plant, which lands to forest, and how to protect the land long-term. Today, Chile chooses to plant native trees.
So when is it bad to plant trees? When programs put the wrong trees in the wrong places. The best ways in a greener future are to cut carbon emissions (排放), while protecting these forests from being destroyed in the first place.
28.How does the author introduce the topic of the text?
A.By stating a problem. B.Through scientific data.
C.With historical facts. D.By making a comparison.
29.What does the underlined word “flammable” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Fast-growing. B.Easy to catch fire. C.Profit-making. D.Able to clean air.
30.What is the author’s attitude to the results of tree-planting programs?
A.Supportive. B.Uncertain. C.Uninterested. D.Doubtful.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Climate Change Solutions B.Chile’s Afforestation Project
C.The Right Way to Plant Trees D.The Need for Native Tree Planting
【答案】28.A 29.B 30.D 31.C
根据第一段中“In the fight to control climate change, there are few solutions more discussed than planting lots of trees. 故选A。
根据第三段中“A tall tree can take in up to 22 kilograms of carbon dioxide each year. But plantation trees are harvested. Further, pine and eucalyptus (桉树) — two commonly grown plantation trees — are highly flammable, so gains in carbon storage can quickly go up in smoke. (一棵高大的树每年可以吸收高达22公斤的二氧化碳。但种植园的树木被砍伐了。此外,松树和桉树——两种常见的种植园树种——极flammable,因此碳储存的增加很快就会化为乌有)”可知,桉树和松树易燃,所以会导致碳储存的增加很快化为乌有,推测划线词flammable意为“易燃的”。故选B。
30.推理判断题。根据第一段中“Yet a recent study suggests this multi-million-dollar effort resulted in no major carbon storage gains. (然而,最近的一项研究表明,这项耗资数百万美元的努力并未带来显著的碳储存增量。)”以及第三段中“According to one study, on average, natural forests are 40 times better at carbon storage than plantations. (根据一项研究,平均而言,天然林在碳储存方面的效果是人工林的40倍。)”和最后一段中“So when is it bad to plant trees? When programs put the wrong trees in the wrong places. (那么什么时候植树不好呢?当项目把错误的树种放在错误的地方时。)”可知,作者对植树计划的结果持怀疑态度。故选D。
31.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是最后一段“So when is it bad to plant trees? When programs put the wrong trees in the wrong places. The best ways in a greener future are to cut carbon emissions (排放), while protecting these forests from being destroyed in the first place. (那么什么时候植树不好呢?当项目把错误的树种放在错误的地方时。在更绿色的未来,最好的方法是减少碳排放,同时首先要保护这些森林不被破坏。)”可知,本文主要讨论了植树在应对气候变化中的作用,指出并非所有植树项目都有效,关键在于选择合适的树种和地点,C选项“The Right Way to Plant Trees (植树的正确方法)”最符合文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。故选C。
D
A picture is worth a thousand words. But when that picture is a high-precision 3D image of the face, it might be worth a thousand blood tests as well. That’s because those full cheeks and under-eye bags are not just unsightly signs of age, but also a reflection of our health.
Scientists have known for decades that chronological age (实际年龄) — a number that can be gleaned from our driver’s licence — doesn’t tell the whole story. Our so-called biological age (生理年龄), influenced by everything from our environment to diet and exercise habits, reflects the health of our cells and organs and can differ from chronological age by years. But unlike tracking the time we’ve been alive, biological age is more slippery to discover exactly.
Now Jing-Dong Han, a computational biologist at Peking University, and colleagues have developed an AI-driven process, dubbed a facial ageing clock, that takes a 3D image of a person’s face and calculates their biological age. And unlike other clocks which require blood or tissue samples and expensive analysis to implement, the facial clock is comparatively economical and non-invasive, requiring the patient to sit for just one minute in front of a 3D imaging camera.
Inspired by a centuries-old Chinese practice, in which doctors discover a person’s health by “reading” their face, Han and her team constructed their clock by analysing 3D facial images of about 5,000 residents of Jidong, China. The researchers created two AI-derived clocks — one that predicts chronological age and another that predicts biological age. These facial ageing clocks track the changes our appearance undergo with time: the corners of the eyes droop, the nose widens, the jowls sag, and the distance between the nose and mouth increases. And certain facial characteristics are aligned (一致) with certain illnesses.
“We’ve been getting so many requests from companies that want our tool to assess their supplements or anti-ageing drugs’ efficacy,” Han says. What is Han’s ultimate goal? “Well, I’m telling my colleagues that I will try to make them live at least five years longer — and look at least five years younger,” she laughs.
32.What is the purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To arouse readers’ concern. B.To introduce the topic of the text.
C.To give the background information. D.To summarize the main argument.
33.What can we learn from the paragraph 2?
A.One’s lifestyle has no clear effect on biological age.
B.Biological age can be determined by a range of factors.
C.The process of knowing can be reflected by biological age.
D.Scientists have made a unified standard to measure biological age.
34.What is the function of ageing clocks?
A.Analyzing one’s workout habits.
B.Assessing one’s physical conditions.
C.Calculating an individual’s biological age.
D.Recording the effect brought by aging process.
35.What is the author’s attitude toward ageing clocks?
A.Unclear. B.Doubtful. C.Positive. D.Carefree.
根据第一段“A picture is worth a thousand words. But when that picture is a high-precision 3D image of the face, it might be worth a thousand blood tests as well. That’s because those full cheeks and under-eye bags are not just unsightly signs of age, but also a reflection of our health. (一张图片胜过千言万语。但是,当这张图片是一张高精度的面部3D图像时,它可能也相当于一千次血液检测。这是因为那些饱满的脸颊和眼袋不仅仅是难看的衰老迹象,也是我们健康状况的反映。)”可知,第一段通过一图胜千言引出面部3D图像不仅关乎外貌,还反映健康状况,目的是引出本文主题——基于面部图像的人工智能生理年龄检测技术。故选B项。
33.细节理解题。根据第二段中“Our so-called biological age (生理年龄), influenced by everything from our environment to diet and exercise habits, reflects the health of our cells and organs and can differ from chronological age by years. (我们所谓的生理年龄,受到从环境到饮食和运动习惯等各种因素的影响,反映了我们细胞和器官的健康状况,可能与实际年龄相差数年。)”可知,生理年龄受多种因素影响。故选B项。
34.细节理解题。根据第四段中“The researchers created two AI-derived clocks — one that predicts chronological age and another that predicts biological age. These facial ageing clocks track the changes our appearance undergo with time: the corners of the eyes droop, the nose widens, the jowls sag, and the distance between the nose and mouth increases. (研究人员创造了两种人工智能时钟 —— 一种预测实际年龄,另一种预测生理年龄。这些面部老化时钟追踪我们外貌随时间的变化:眼角下垂,鼻子变宽,下巴下垂,鼻子和嘴巴之间的距离增加。)”可知,面部老化时钟追踪我们外貌随时间的变化,即记录衰老过程带来的影响。故选D项。
35.推理判断题。根据第三段中“And unlike other clocks which require blood or tissue samples and expensive analysis to implement, the facial clock is comparatively economical and non-invasive, requiring the patient to sit for just one minute in front of a 3D imaging camera. (与其他需要血液或组织样本和昂贵分析才能实现的时钟不同,面部时钟相对经济且非侵入性,只需要患者在3D成像相机前坐一分钟。)”以及最后一段中““We’ve been getting so many requests from companies that want our tool to assess their supplements or anti-ageing drugs’ efficacy,” Han says. (韩说:“我们收到了很多公司的请求,他们希望我们的工具能够评估他们的补充剂或抗衰老药物的功效。”)”可知,作者介绍了面部老化时钟的优点,包括经济、非侵入性,以及具有评估补充剂或抗衰老药物功效的潜力,由此可推知,作者对面部老化时钟持积极态度。故选C项。

第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
One afternoon, Tom’s father brought home five healthy Rhode Island Red chickens and presented them to Tom. “If you take good care of them,” his father explained, “I’ll buy all the eggs they lay at market price. But remember, you’re responsible for buying their feed.” Thrilled at the opportunity to earn his own money, Tom immediately agreed, his mind already racing with plans for his new “business”.
For the first few weeks, Tom was the picture of dedication. Every morning before school, he would carefully measure out the chickens’ feed — a nutritious blend of grains and seeds recommended by the local feed store. He made sure their water was always fresh and their cage clean. The chickens, well cared for, rewarded his efforts with a steady supply of eggs—four or five each day. Tom would collect them in a small basket, and his father would pay him a fair price. Proud of his earnings, Tom started dreaming bigger. He made plans for a larger cage and even researched how to raise more chickens to increase his profits.
But as the weeks passed, Tom noticed something unsettling. The number of eggs began to drop — first to three a day, then two, and sometimes even just one. Maybe the chickens were just having an off week, he thought. But when the trend continued, worry set in. He examined each chicken carefully, checking for signs of illness or stress, but they seemed perfectly healthy. Confused and frustrated, he finally approached his father one evening after dinner.
His father listened quietly, then asked, “Think about it — have you changed anything in how you care for them?” Tom hesitated. Then it hit him. A few weeks earlier, he had decided to cut costs by switching to cheaper feed and reducing the portions slightly. He’d figured the chickens wouldn’t notice, and the savings would add up. But now, his attempt to save a few dollars had backfired.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
A wave of guilt washing over him, Tom determined to make things right.

Within a week, Tom noticed a change.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A wave of guilt washing over him, Tom determined to make things right. He immediately went back to the local feed store and bought the high-quality feed he had used before. He also decided to give the chickens a bit more than the recommended amount. Every morning, he got up earlier to clean the cage more thoroughly and make sure the water was crystal clear. He spent extra time observing the chickens, talking to them gently as if to apologize for his previous neglect. He knew that it would take time for the chickens to recover, but he was patient and committed to restoring their egg laying ability.
Within a week, Tom noticed a change. The chickens seemed more energetic, pecking around the cage with enthusiasm. One morning, when he went to collect the eggs, he found three eggs in the basket. A wide smile spread across his face. As the days went by, the number of eggs gradually increased back to four or five a day. Tom was overjoyed. He realized that in business, as in life, taking shortcuts and cutting corners would only lead to failure. From then on, he was more responsible and dedicated, understanding that proper care and investment were the keys to success. His new-found wisdom would surely serve him well in his future endeavors.

Listen to the next question. Good afternoon. I want to thank professor Johnson for giving me the chance to talk to you today about a alaska. One of the things that concern me most is the future of the alaska environment. About twenty years ago, before going on, some wilderness research, I visited encourage. The largest city in IT was a small city of forty thousand people, surrounded by a quiet wilderness. When I made a recent trip there, I found amazing changes. Encourage now has one hundred and eight thousand people. There are two buildings, shopping centres and all the crowds and traffic jams. The forests and mountains are still nearby, but they seem so small compared to the city's great size. The discovery of oil in alaska brought increased wealth to the state. However, there have been too many people moving to alaska in a very short period to work on the, there is not enough housing or transportation. I think alaska must make important decisions soon. Alaskans need to decide how to develop their natural resources and mineral wealth without destroying the wilderness and harming the wildlife. What is decided on now will affect the generations to come. For today's lecture, i've brought along many of the pictures I usually show in my environmental science classes in my own university. First, i'll show you some pictures of alaska's wildering. This as IT is today. Then i'd like to outline my specific suggestions. Good afternoon. The desire to collect things of beauty and significance goes deep into history. Museums not only exhibit but also safeguard these art objects for future generations. Here are some of the best museums in the world.
Prado Museum
The Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain features some of the best collections of European art, from the 12th century to the early 19th century. The best-known work on display at the museum, opened in 1819, is Velázquez’s Las Meninas. He not only provided the Prado with his own works, but his keen eye and sensibility were also responsible for bringing much of the museum’s fine collection of Italian masters to Spain.
Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is located on the eastern edge of Central Park in New York City. Originally opened in 1872 and with many expansions added over time, it holds hundreds of rooms on its two floors, containing more than two million works of art from across human history and around the world, covering virtually every field of art in existence. Besides its permanent exhibitions, the museum organizes and hosts large traveling ones throughout the year.
Louvre
The Louvre in Paris is one of the world’s largest and most visited art museums. The museum opened in 1793 and is housed in the Louvre Palace, a former royal palace. The famous glass pyramid (金字塔) in the main courtyard of the Louvre Palace was added in 1989 and serves as the main entrance to the museum. Its exhibits come from such diverse origins as ancient Egypt, classical Greece and Rome, medieval Europe and Napoleonic France. Leonardo da Vinci’s painting Mona Lisa is its most famous exhibit.
Hermitage Museum
Founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great, the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia is a massive museum of art and culture with a collection of over three million items spanning the globe.

1.续写词数应为150左右;

A wave of guilt washing over him, Tom determined to make things right.
