Shared Mobility:Making Travel Easier for All
Shared mobility services, such as carshares and bikeshares.have positive effects on the
environment. However, access to these services is not equal for everyone.Research shows that shared
mobility services are more commonly available in wealthier urban areas. Most users tend to be
younger, wealthier, and physically able.To build a sustainable transportation system,it is essential to
make these services inclusive for all people.
Some cities have introduced programs to support low-income residents. These programs hclp
increase the use of shared vehicles and reduce dependence on personal cars.Recently, about 70%of
micromobility programs in the US have taken measures to better serve disadvantaged groups, such as
accepting cash payments and offering non-smartphone booking options.
Still, many barriers remain.Surveys indicate that people in rural areas and those with lower
incomes encounter more obstacles when trying to use bikeshares.Cost, lack of familiarity, and limited
availability are common problems,as illustrated in the Figure.

At 76 years old,Zhang Guohui is not a man who spends his days in quiet retirement.Instead,
his hands, rough and work-worn from sixty years of labor, continue to shape wood into floating
history. He is one of the last living masters of the ancient art of building traditional Chinese sailing
ships using "watertight-bulkhead"technology.This mcthod was so important that it was once a
carefully kept secret of Chinese shipbuilders.Today,it is recognized as a UNESCO World Cultural
Heritage.
Zhang's journey began at the young age of 16,when he first started learning at a shipyard in
Quanzhou.Long ago,Quanzhou was the starting point of the Maritime (adj.)Silk Road.In
those days, building a wooden ship was a huge task that required the whole community's help and the
master's deep knowledge of the sea."You don't just follow a drawing,"Zhang explains in his local
way of speaking."You have to feel the wood, understand its lines, and know how it will bend to the
power of the waves."The watertight-bulkhead method divides the ship's body into several separate
parts. This was a wonderful invention of ancient enginecring. If one part of the ship was broken,it
would not sink.
Today, the loud noise of motor boats has long replaced the rhythmic sound of hammers in
Quanzhou Bay.People no longer need large wooden sailing ships. However,Zhang's love for his craft
has not faded;it has only found a new direction. He now spends his time creating beautiful,
small-scale models of the very ships he once helped build. His workshop has become a place full of
maritime history, filled with careful copies of Fujian trading ships. Each model has working doors and
perfectly fitted wooden pieces."The size has changed,"he says,carefully painting a tiny rudder(n.
),"but the heart, the skill, the spirit. It's all the same."For Zhang Guohui, these models are not just
objects, they are carriers of an old tradition moving into the future. They show a lifetime of hard work
dedicated to making sure that the wisdom of the past is not lost to the passing of time.
24.What do we learn about the "watertight-bulkhead"technology?
A.It was a method known only to Chinese shipbuilders
B.It is a modern technology first used in motor boats.
C.It was invented by Zhang Guohui when he was young.
D.It is still widely used to build large ships in Quanzhou today.
25.What is the advantage of the watertight-bulkhead technology?
A.It is a method that anyone can easily learn.
B.It made ships much safer and less likely to sink.
C.It is a modern technology now used in motor boats.

D.It allows builders to work without following drawings.
26.What is the author's attitude towards Zhang Guohui's work?
A.Ncgative
B.Uninterested
C.Admiring
D.Doubtful
27.Which of the following words best describes Zhang Guohui's character?
A.realistic and profit-driven
B.kindhearted and considerate
C.hardworking and devoted
D.casual and easy-going

Everyone knows walking is good for you,and many of us count our daily steps. But is it better
to take a longer walk than a comparable number of steps spread across the day?A recent multinational
study reveals that walking in longer continuous sessions provides greater health benefits than
accumulating the same number of steps through short bursts throughout the day.
Researchers analyzed data from 33,560 British adults aged 40-79 who averaged less than 8,000
daily steps.Participants were asked to wear an accelerometer for about seven days to establish how
much they typically walk.Participants were sorted into four categories according to whether they
accumulated most of their steps:under 5 minutes,5-10 minutes,10-15 minutes,or over 15 minutes.
Scientists found that those who mainly walked in more than 15 minute sessions showed an 83%lower
mortality(死亡)risk and68%lower cardiovascular(心血管的)disease risk compared to those taking
less than 5 minutes'walks.
"We tend to place all the emphasis on the number of steps or the total amount of walking but
neglect the crucial role of patterns,"said Emmanuel Stamatakis, one of the rescarchers, who is
director of the University of Sydney's Mackenzie Wearables Research Hub in Sydney,Australia."The
study shows that even people who are very physically inactive can maximize their heart health benefit
by tweaking their walking patterns to walk for longer at a time, ideally for at least 10-15 minutes."
But the researchers took steps to determine whether better health caused the longer walks rather
than vice versa. For instance, they analyzed their findings without including volunteers who were
reported fair or poor health, yet results were still "in linc with thosc of our main analyses."
Aiden Doherty,a professor at the University of Oxford said the study was conducted "by some
of the world's leading physical activity researchers"and introduced a brand new concept, but "the
results need to be reproduced in other studies in other countries to see if this might be due to a direct
causal relationship rather than a simple connection between factors."
28.How did the researchers categorize the participants in the study?
A.By their age groups and national backgrounds.
B.By the condition of their cardiovascular health
C.By the total number of stcps they took within a day.
D.By the lcngth of their continuous walking sessions.
29.The underlined word"tweaking"in paragraph 3 most probably means
A.replacing completely
B.adjusting slightly
C.criticizing severely
D.measuring accurately
30.What is Professor Doherty's attitude toward the findings?
A.Favorable B.Cautious
C.Disapproving
D.Indifferent
31.Which is the best title for the passage?
A.Walking More Steps leads to Better Health.
B.Older Adults Should Prioritize More Walking.
C.Walking Patterns Significantly Affect Longevity.
D.Walking Style matters More Than Step Count.

Considered nature's engineers, beavers (build dams across streams to create ponds. They
are a key specics due to their significant impact on streams, the movement of water, water quality, and
the other animals that live there.Beavers can change their environments mainly through dam
construction. The effects of these dams can be different in geographical regions, but scientists do not
have a clear understanding of how they affect water quality, habitat, and sedimentation().
"Due to limited study, some research scientists must make decisions on how the conservation,
expansion, and reintroduction of beavers can make a difference to their local streams based on
findings from ecosystems that are more frequently studied and better understood,"said EPA
researcher Ken Fritz.
Ken Fritz,Johnson,Heather Golden, and Brent Johnson,in collaboration with other researchers
from Miami University,Ohio, conducted a scientific literature review to better understand how beaver
dams influence stream systems across different biogeographical regions.Their paper used 267
peer-revicwed studies to quantify the effects of beaver dams. The literature review found that beaver
dams had profound environmental effects. The impacts on stream morphology (and water
movement were similar across geographical regions.Stream health.also appeared to improve with
beaver conservation.
Specifically, results show that while nitrate and suspended sediments decreased downstream
from beaver dams, pollutants like mcthyl mcrcury, dissolved organic carbon, and ammonium
concentrations increased.Total nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations tended to not be affected by
beaver dams. The effects beaver dams have on pollutants vary depending on environmental conditions
-like tcmpcrature, sunlight, water velocity and depth-that aid in changing and transporting certain
pollutants.
On a larger scale, beaver dams slow water flow and increase sedimentation, and most pollutants
likely settle out of the water into sediments upstream of the beaver dam. These areas could become
zones of high concentration of some harmful pollutants for exposed wildlife.
These findings can be useful for stream conservation and restoration efforts that introduce or
protect beavers.Additional studies are needed in dry or cold biomes historically occupied by beavers
and in new environments where beaver populations are currently expanding.
32.What impact do beaver dams have on the environment?
A.Water quality and living habitats.
B.The climate of different regions.
C.The safety of other wildlife.
D.The increasing number of plant species.
33.What can we conclude about the influence of beaver dams?
A.They effectively reduce all types of pollutants in streams.
B.They may create hidden environmental risks for wildlife nearby.
C.They mainly control pollution by changing water temperature and sunlight.
D.They lead to higher concentrations of harmful pollutants downstream.
34.How did the researchers carry out their study?
A.By conducting a literature review on beavers.
B.By observing wild beavers in different regions.
C.By summarizing plenty of previous related studies.
D.By inventing a novel approach to protect stream systems.
35.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.Current research on beavers is far from complete
B.Beaver protection has greatly improved stream health.
C.Dry and cold regions are ideal habitats for beavers.
D.Stream restoration relies mainly on beaver introduction.

Our Part in Peace
World peace is essential for humanity's survival and progress. It allows nations to cooperate,
cultures to develop, and future gencrations to live in safety.Being devoted to peace is achievable
through small efforts in our daily life.36
Learn from History,Value Peace.

targeted-whether through words, exclusion,or threats-we can choose to step in,not look away.
38 It reminds us courage over silence builds peace.
Speak with Care,Spread Peace Online.
39 But we can choose to be different. We do not have to share every hurtful post or
join every fight. Before we type something,we can stop and think:Will this help or hurt?A few kind
words online can makc a real difference. We can be part of the calm, not part of the noise.
40
Peace grows where people feel connected. When we give our time to help at a food bank, clean
up a park,or assist elderly neighbors,we become part of somcthing larger than ourselves. These

W: Justin, my favorite singer is holding a concert this Friday. Do you want to go with me?
M: Indeed, but I have a very busy schedule that day. I have to attend a conference in the afternoon and meet an important client at dinner time.
W: Thanks for letting me know.
2.C
W: Jason, I’d like to take a turn around the national park at six o’clock. Could you tell me the time it takes to get to the park from our apartment?
M: Roughly 40 minutes on foot or 15 minutes by bike. Choosing the bus would take 25 minutes because there’s always a lot of traffic at this time of day.
W: I will choose the way that saves the most time.
3.C
W: Have you completed the book I lent to you last week? I finally finished my final exams. I feel a weight off my shoulders now, so I’m quite eager to reread certain chapters.
M: Not entirely. This book is more difficult than I thought. It requires understanding a wealth of historical and cultural backgrounds, which takes me lots of time to grasp.
4.A
W: Martin, I need to play the guitar for the show at my school next month. Can you tell me how I can improve?
M: Sure. While it’s important to have dedicated practice sessions, it’s also helpful to get personal tutoring on how to play the guitar better.
5.C
W: How is your history project on The Evolution of Ancient Civilizations going?
M: I’m sure it offers a unique window into the past.
W: Remember that the submission deadline is next Monday, and the professor is strict about late submission.
M: I’ve been working hard on it all week, burning the midnight oil, and it’s nearly done now.

W: Jack, I’d like to share a special non-profit organization with you. It’s Exceptional Day of Play.
M: You’ve aroused my curiosity. Tell me more.
W: The organization was co-founded by high school seniors Peyton Beeli and Alexa King.
M: Amazing. Why do they have such an idea?
W: Alexa’s little sister, Chloe, has a complex genetic disorder that primarily affects the nervous system, causing delayed development and other issues. Alexa and Peyton struggled to find places where Chloe could interact with others in a comfortable and safe environment. They saw a need in the community, not just for Chloe but for all kids with diverse needs.
M: I must say teens are making a difference.

W: David, are there any special arrangements for today’s day trip? I’m eager to know the details.
M: I have arranged a Beijing Hutong walking tour. Unlike traditional sightseeing tours, where you’re rushed through the main attractions, it provides the perfect opportunity to uncover the rich culture that lies in these charming neighborhoods.
W: That sounds fascinating. Will we visit any local families? And what about lunch?
M: Yes, we’ll drop by a hutong family to see their daily life. Your fees include lunch at a local restaurant and a Beijing Hutong walking tour map to help you stay on track. But please make your own arrangements for accommodation.
W: Great. Thanks for the information.
M: My pleasure. Let’s gather here at 9:00 am to start.

M: Anna, I heard you want to move out of your college dorm, so how is your house hunting going?
W: Actually, I’ve moved into a furnished two-bedroom flat in a three-story building near our campus. I only have a short commute to the teaching building.
M: That’s great. How much is the rent?
W: 500 pounds a month, including water and electricity.
M: Good price. Mine is 550 pounds, with an additional 10 pounds for cleaning service every month.
W: But I can only afford 600 pounds for living expenses every month because I need to save money for traveling.
M: How long is your contract for?
W: That’s the bad thing — we signed for a year, and it expires at the end of this year. However, the house owner wanted to decorate it for his son’s wedding next month. I’ll have to find a new apartment then.
M: Don’t worry. My colleague’s flat is for rent now. It’s just next to my door.
W: Is this the reason why you want to talk with me today? I’ll be glad to be your neighbor then.

W: Dear listeners, welcome to Life Tips. For today’s show we have Dr. Lee, an expert on relationships. Dr. Lee, many struggle with people-pleasing habits — what’s the first step to changing?
M: Self-care is key. Be aware of what you need on a moment-by-moment basis. For example, notice when you’re hungry, tired or feeling anxious about others’ expectations. After you can recognize these more basic needs, you can start working toward recognizing what you need and value on a bigger scale.
W: People-pleasers frequently mention they can’t say “no” about other’s request. It feels wrong.
M: It’s essential to grasp that declining a request doesn’t label you as bad or disappoint others. Avoid apologizing or making excuses. When faced with demands, take time to assess your capabilities and what you prioritize. Before agreeing to any request, evaluate requests thoughtfully.
W: So, how do people-pleasers set boundaries?
M: Begin by reflecting on your personal values and limits. With a clear understanding of these elements, you can communicate your boundaries to others.
W: Thanks, Dr. Lee. That’s really valuable for our listeners.
M: My pleasure.

W: Good morning, everyone. Today, my presentation will focus on the preparation for a college interview. After you have applied for a college you are interested in, there is a possibility that you need to prepare for an interview before the college considers you qualified. There are two ways you can practice your interviewing skills and responses. The first is by doing interview practice with others who are also applying. Interview practices, I think, are a good first step to understanding what an interview will be like. Your interview partner can tell you which responses are convincing and why. Now, let’s come to the second way. If possible, you can get an interview first with a school that matters less to you. This allows you to develop and refine your interview skills and get rid of your first interview nerves without too much mistakes. I think that it is a good idea to use both approaches from time to time if you can. Then you are going to benefit from those experiences in a real interview. OK. Next, I will focus on questions during interviews, both general and specific that you are required to get ready for before an interview.

根据第一段中“Shared mobility services, such as carshares and bikeshares, have positive effects on the environment. However, access to these services is not equal for everyone. Research shows that shared mobility services are more commonly available in wealthier urban areas. Most users tend to be younger, wealthier, and physically able. To build a sustainable transportation system, it is essential to make these services inclusive for all people. (共享出行服务,如汽车共享和自行车共享,对环境有积极影响。然而,并非每个人都能平等地获得这些服务。研究表明,共享出行服务在较富裕的城市地区更为普遍。大多数用户往往更年轻、更富有、身体更强健。为了建设可持续的交通系统,必须使这些服务对所有人都具有包容性)”可知,让共享出行服务具有包容性的目的是实现交通可持续发展。故选 C。
22.细节理解题。根据文中“Surveys indicate that people in rural areas and those with lower incomes encounter more obstacles when trying to use bikeshares. Cost, lack of familiarity, and limited availability are common problems(调查显示,农村地区和低收入人群在使用共享单车时遇到更多障碍。成本、缺乏熟悉度和供应有限是常见问题)”及图表中对应Lower income(urban)的BARRIER2:High cost of the bikeshare system对应的是40%,占比最高,所以高成本是阻碍低收入城市人群使用共享单车的主要障碍。故选B。
23.细节理解题。根据第四段中“Similarly, Tim Carsharing in Austria offers vehicles suitable for wheelchairs and provides child seats upon request. (相似地,奥地利的Tim Carsharing提供适合轮椅的车辆,并根据要求提供儿童座椅)”可知,奥地利的Tim Carsharing采取的措施是提供适合轮椅的车辆。故选 D。

【导语】本文主要以非物质文化遗产——中国传统水密隔舱古帆船建造技艺传承人张国辉为记述对象,讲述了他从16岁学艺到年过七旬仍坚守、传承传统技艺的经历。
【详解】24.细节理解题。根据第一段“This method was so important that it was once a carefully kept secret of Chinese shipbuilders.(这种方法极为重要,曾是中国造船匠人严格保守的秘密。)”
根据第二段“The watertight-bulkhead method divides the ship’s body into several separate parts. This was a wonderful invention of ancient engineering. If one part of the ship was broken, it would not sink.(水密隔舱法将船体分隔成若干个独立部分,这是古代工程学的一项伟大发明。即使船体某一部分破损,船只也不会沉没。)”可知,水密隔舱技术使船只更安全,更不容易沉没。
26.推理判断题。根据最后一段“For Zhang Guohui, these models are not just objects, they are carriers of an old tradition moving into the future. They show a lifetime of hard work dedicated to making sure that the wisdom of the past is not lost to the passing of time.(对于张国辉来说,这些模型不仅仅是物件,它们是古老传统迈向未来的载体。它们展现了他一生致力于确保过往的智慧不因时间流逝而失传的辛勤努力。)”可知,作者对张国辉的工作充满了敬意和钦佩之情。
27.推理判断题。根据第一段“At 76 years old, Zhang Guohui is not a man who spends his days in quiet retirement. Instead, his hands, rough and work-worn from sixty years of labor, continue to shape wood into floating history.(76 岁的张国辉并非那种安享晚年的老人。相反,他那双因 60 年劳作而变得粗糙、布满老茧的手,仍在将木头雕琢成漂浮的历史。)”和最后一段“They show a lifetime of hard work dedicated to making sure that the wisdom of the past is not lost to the passing of time.(它们展现了他一生致力于确保过往的智慧不因时间流逝而失传的辛勤努力。)”

根据第二段中的“Participants were sorted into four categories according to whether they accumulated most of their steps: under 5 minutes, 5-10 minutes, 10-15 minutes, or over 15 minutes.(研究人员根据参与者积累大部分步数的连续时长,将他们分为四类:不到5分钟、5-10分钟、10-15分钟以及超过15分钟)”可知,研究人员是按照参与者连续步行的时长对其进行分类的。故选D项。
根据第三段中的“The study shows that even people who are very physically inactive can maximize their heart health benefit by tweaking their walking patterns to walk for longer at a time, ideally for at least 10-15 minutes.(研究表明,即使是运动极少的人,也能通过tweaking步行模式,每次步行时间更长一些(理想情况下至少10-15分钟),从而最大限度地提升心脏健康益处)”可知,tweaking是针对步行模式做出的调整,目的是让单次步行时间更长,结合语境推测其意为“轻微调整”。故选B项。
根据第五段中的“Aiden Doherty, a professor at the University of Oxford said the study was conducted “by some of the world’s leading physical activity researchers’ and introduced a brand new concept, but ‘the results need to be reproduced in other studies in other countries to see if this might be due to a direct causal relationship rather than a simple connection between factors.”(牛津大学教授艾登·多尔蒂表示,这项研究由“世界顶尖的运动研究人员”开展,提出了全新概念,但“研究结果需要在其他国家的其他研究中重复验证,以确认这是否源于直接的因果关系,而非因素间的简单关联。”)”
根据第一段中的“A recent multinational study reveals that walking in longer continuous sessions provides greater health benefits than accumulating the same number of steps through short bursts throughout the day.(一项近期跨国研究发现,较长时间连续步行比较短时间分段累积相同步数,能带来更大健康益处)”、第三段中的““We tend to place all the emphasis on the number of steps or the total amount of walking but neglect the crucial role of patterns,” said Emmanuel Stamatakis, one of the researchers, who is director of the University of Sydney’s Mackenzie Wearables Research Hub in Sydney, Australia.(澳大利亚悉尼大学麦肯齐可穿戴设备研究中心主任、本研究的研究者之一伊曼纽尔・斯塔马塔基斯表示:“我们往往将所有关注点都放在步数或步行的总时长上,却忽视了步行模式所起的关键作用。”)”

根据原文第一段“They are a key species due to their significant impact on streams, the movement of water, water quality, and the other animals that live there.(河狸是关键物种,因为它们对溪流、水流、水质以及栖息在那里的其他动物都有着重大影响。)”
根据原文第五段“These areas could become zones of high concentration of some harmful pollutants for exposed wildlife.(这些区域可能成为暴露在外的野生动物面临某些有害污染物高度聚集的地带。)”
根据原文第三段“Their paper used 267 peer-reviewed studies to quantify the effects of beaver dams.(他们的论文参考了267项经过同行评审的研究,以此量化河狸大坝产生的影响。)”
根据原文最后一段“Additional studies are needed in dry or cold biomes historically occupied by beavers and in new environments where beaver populations are currently expanding.(在河狸历史栖息的干旱或寒冷生态区,以及河狸种群目前正在扩张的新环境中,仍需开展更多研究。)”

故填has swept。

故填which。

Digital products have made our life and study easier, but many of us are spending too much time online, influencing our health and real-life communication. To enjoy a better life, we should use digital tools wisely.
First, we’d better set a time limit on using phones and computers. Second, it’s a good choice to take up offline hobbies such as reading and sports. What’s more, we should communicate more with people around us instead of being lost in the virtual world.
Let’s take control of our digital life and live a more meaningful and healthy life.

We tied the basket to the rope and slowly lowered it into the hollow. The kitten was so scared that it hid in the corner at first, but when it smelled the cat food we put in the basket, it stepped in carefully. We pulled the rope up gently, and finally got the little guy out safely. It was covered in dirt, with a small cut on its paw, but it purred softly as soon as it was in our arms, as if thanking us. We wrapped it in a warm scarf and decided to take it home first.
After we took the little cat home, we gave it a warm bath and prepared some milk for it. It drank the milk hungrily, and soon became lively, playing with our dogs gently. We posted its information on the community group, hoping to find its owner. A few days later, a little girl came to pick it up, crying with joy. We learned that the kitten had run away from home and got lost. This experience taught us that every small life deserves to be cherished, and we should always be ready to help those in need, whether human or animal.

68.范文:
That night, Ethan came down at dinnertime looking upset. His parents were having dinner and it smelled delicious. He glanced at the food on the table and slowly approached them with his head down. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have demanded payment for my chores. I never thought about everything you two do for me every day, and you never ask for anything in return,” Ethan said in a low voice. “I’m glad that you have realized that, son. We do everything for you out of love,” his mother said.
“I know, Mom. I’m so sorry,” Ethan whispered, and his eyes filled with tears. Ethan’s dad got up and put his arms around him. “Son, in this family we do all we can to help each other to make all our lives easier and better. That’s what being a family is all about.” Ethan’s mom gave him a hug too and then handed him a plate of pie. “It’s your favorite, and it’s free.” Hearing that, Ethan smiled through tears. That day, Ethan learned an important lesson that he should appreciate all that his parents do for him and do his part in helping his family.
