For many visitors, Xi'an is just a dusty stop to see the Terracotta Warriors before moving on. They think the city is not as splendid as it used to be—once the world's largest city, now just a Tier II(二线) city in northwest China. When I first arrived here six years ago, I shared this common doubt. But my daily life in this old city quickly changed my mind.
I still remember my first morning in Xi'an. I walked along the ancient city wall at dawn, watching locals cycle to work and sell fresh vegetables at street stalls. Later, when I started teaching at a local university, I was surprised by how many international students chose to study here, drawn by the city's low cost of living and famously safe environment. These small, everyday moments made me realize Xi'an is far from stuck in the past.
The Belt and Road Initiative(BRI) has given Xi'an a new, dynamic life. The Chang'an freight trains run day and night, carrying goods between China and Europe. This has brought new jobs and businesses to the city, and I've seen more foreign experts coming here to work, just like me. Xi'an is slowly becoming a lively international center, just as it was centuries ago.
What makes Xi'an truly special, to me, is how it balances its old soul with futuristic efficiency. Last weekend, I attended a concert of traditional music in a modern theater right next to the ancient Bell Tower. The music was thousands of years old, but the stage design used cutting-edge technology. This mix of heritage and innovation is what sets Xi'an apart from other cities.
When people ask why I chose Xi'an over a busy metropolis like Shanghai, I tell them it's because of the city's unique balance of history, culture, and opportunity. It has given me a comfortable life and a real sense of belonging. For young people, for foreign experts, and for anyone looking for a place to grow, Xi'an offers something truly rare. It is more than a historical site—it is a blueprint for a modern, livable global city.
24. What was the author's initial assumption of Xi'an?
A. It was no longer as great as before.
B. It used to be the world's largest city.

D. It was as prosperous as ancient Chang'an.
25. Why do many international students choose to study in Xi'an?
A. It enjoys low living cost and safety.
B. It has convenient train routes to Europe.
C. It offers job opportunities for foreigners.
D. It is an ideal place to learn Chinese culture.
26. Why does the author mention a concert in paragraph 4?
A. To display his passion for traditional music.
B. To recall his impression of cutting-edge technology.
C. To introduce wonderful cultural atmosphere of the city.
D. To show the city's mix of ancient charm and modern liveliness.
27. What is the best title of the passage?
A. From East to West
B. Beyond the Ancient Wall
C. High-tech Is a New Label of Xi'an
D. BRI Boosts the Ancient City's economy

AI glasses, one of the most cutting-edge smart wearables, are jointly developed and produced by leading Chinese tech research teams. Years of professional engineering research and repeated user tests have shaped this generation of lightweight, high-performance smart glasses.
Given people's real pain points in daily cross-language communication and inconvenient carrying of smart devices, developers aim to create a device that looks no different from ordinary eyeglasses, so users can wear it all day without extra burden. Made with diffractive waveguides (衍射光波导) technology and powered by advanced small developed chips, the finished product weighs merely 49 grams, achieving perfect balance between beauty and comfort.
As for core functions, the AI glasses boast outstanding performance. First, they support real-time translation of up to 122 languages and dialects, serving as a portable personal interpreter. They also provide real-time navigation, photo and video capture, AI intelligent Q&A, meeting record and glance-and-pay. Some upgraded models even adopt AI voice-cloning technology, greatly improving personalized interaction experience.
Compared with traditional wearables, the AI glasses have unique competitive advantages. They break language barriers efficiently, free people from heavy mobile phones, and perfectly combine ancient daily wearing habits with futuristic high technology.
In competition with international rivals, Chinese industry researchers hold all the cards. "We are no longer followers; in key technologies like diffractive waveguides, we have taken the lead," said Dr. Meng, a leading Chinese developer in the field. At present, the product has finished the shift from abstract concept to practical daily use. It is gradually developing from a single device into a complete smart ecosystem. With continuous technological upgrading, AI glasses are expected to enter thousands of households, reshape people’s work, travel and social ways, and become a necessary smart partner in modern daily life.

We’ve seen health drinks for health, like lemon water for health and weight loss. Now, the latest drink riding the online health wave is hot water. A popular example is drinking hot or warm water before breakfast. The trend is part of a habit of people taking on elements of Eastern medicine and Chinese culture and sharing their experiences on social media. Many say it improves digestion, leaving them feeling thinner and less swollen. Some also say it improves the skin, helps with weight loss and even “cleans the body”
For thousands of years, traditional Chinese medicine has encouraged warm water drinking to keep the digestive system at its best, as cold drinks are thought to cause stomach discomfort. In fact, few scientific studies have examined these benefits. A 2016 study on gallbladder (胆囊) surgery patients found that those who drank warm water passed gas sooner than those who did not, but it did not greatly speed up their first bowel movement (排便).
Despite the lack of strong evidence, drinking warm water in the morning does make biological sense, explained Dr. Lisa Ganjhu. Digestion slows during sleep, and anything taken in upon waking causes waves of tightening and loosening in the muscles of the food pipe, stomach, and intestines(肠道). Dr. Folasade May added that temperature may not be important; warm or cold water might have the same effect, which can reduce swelling.
Claims about water “cleaning” the body are not correct, said food expert Kristen Smith—the liver and kidneys deal with poisons, not water. As for weight loss, a small drop on the scale after a large bowel movement does not last. The main benefit of drinking warm water may simply be getting water. Upon waking, the body is a little short of water, so drinking water can help with signs like hunger, headaches, and feeling slow. Over time, it is adequate in the body, which makes waste softer and helps keep you regular and feel less swollen.
As Dr. May concluded, the hot water trend proves what is already known. "Water is really good for you in every way." So, whether you drink it hot, warm, or cold—just drink it. Your stomach doesn't care about the temperature; it just wants the water.
32. What might be the main reason for hot water trend?
A. The discomfort caused by drinking cold water.
B. The better effect on weight loss than lemon water.
C. The influence of Chinese culture and Eastern medicine.
D. The desire to become a social media influencer with more fans.
33. Why does the author mention the 2016 study?
A. To prove that warm water significantly helps pass gas soon.
B. To recommend warm water for gallbladder surgery patients.
C. To show that the hot water effects are not scientifically proved.
D. To compare the effects of warm water and cold water for digestion.
34. What is the author's attitude towards hot water?
A. Objective.
B. Disapproving
C. Supportive.
D. Concerned.
35. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The advantages of drinking warm water.
B. Ways to keep healthy with various drinks.
C. Scientific analysis of drinking warm water.
D. The effect of traditional Chinese medicine on health.
第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Last year, a company sent six women on a short journey to space. They were not astronauts conducting scientific research. __36__ Their participation reflects how commercial spaceflight is redefining humanity's relationship with the cosmos.
Space tourism has evolved into a niche market(小众市场) selling brief encounters above Earth's atmosphere. Like wellness retreats or extreme adventures, it appeals to those drawn to novelty and status. These flights may last just minutes, but they offer something more lasting: fame and personal storytelling. __37__
The "push-and-pull" theory in tourism studies helps explain this desire. "Push" factors are internal desires such as curiosity or the eagerness for fame. "Pull" factors are external attractions, like seeing the Earth from above or experiencing weightlessness. __38__
Another theory describes how destinations evolve: from exploration to mass adoption. Many forms of tourism begin in an exploration phase, accessible only to the wealthy. __39__ Only wealthy nobles could afford this once-in-a-lifetime journey, whose legacy helped shape modern travel.
__40__ It is expensive, and available only to a few. Infrastructure is limited, and companies are still experimenting with what the experience should involve. Thus it remains a high-end choice rather than a widely-accepted mass activity. The line between a scientific achievement and a symbolic journey is becoming increasingly unclear. How space tourism is framed now will set the tone for its future.
Options:
A. Currently, space tourism is in the exploration stage.
B. Take the historic Grand Tour of Europe as an example.
C. They were hired by the company to perform safety tests.
D. Instead, they belonged to a new category: space tourists.
E. For many, even a short flight can fulfill a personal milestone.
F. At this point, space tourism is widely accepted as a mass activity.
G. Space tourism combines inner motivation with external experiences.

Our basketball team gathered around Coach Taylor. It was the first important game of the season, and also my very first basketball game on the court. “Remember, even winners make mistakes.” Coach Taylor said. “But what do real winners do when they mess up?” She held up three fingers, “Shake it off! Keep focused! Never quit!” We cheered together in high spirits.
“What kind of winners are you?” Coach Taylor asked us with a gentle look. “Real winners,” we answered in one voice.
I was the first player to step up to shoot. “Come on, Maddie!” my teammates cheered warmly. I dribbled (运球) the ball twice carefully and then took a shot. “Air ball!” said the referee (裁判). “No basket.” Great disappointment washed over me, with my heart occupied entirely by self-blame. I blamed myself for wasting the precious scoring chance, thinking I shouldn’t have messed up so carelessly. Trapped in constant regret, I couldn’t focus well for the rest of the first half. Soon the whistle blew to end the first half, and our team fell behind by two points.
As the second half kicked off, I pulled myself together and got ready for the offence. I passed the ball to Lila, whose movement successfully drew two defenders away from my side. Free from defense, I waited for her instant return pass. Lila wasted no time sending it back to me immediately. I rushed toward the basket quickly as the game clock ticked constantly. When the defender tried to block me, I passed calmly to Nickie, who shot perfectly and scored for our team, tying the score at 20-20.
“Foul (犯规)!” called the referee. I was awarded two free throws. A wave of tension and anxiety hit me immediately. I stepped to the free-throw line. The whole court fell dead silent. My hands trembled slightly, and I missed the first shot. I hung my head low, filled with deep regret, and even felt eager to quit.
